My Hyper-V Server 2008 doesnt show up in SCVMM 2010

Hi All

We have R2 Enterprise with Hyper-V role installed and running fine, a secondary Hyper-V Server 2008 R2.  The Enterprise shows up as a host in SCVMM2010 but the Hyper-V won't.  I can manually migrate between these servers though.

What do I need to do to make it visible?

Thanks

Using Server 2012 Hyper-V with local storage for VMs?

I have a small network (less than 100 users). I'm looking at buying two (2), 1U servers that have eight (8), 2.5" drive bays and I'm planning on running Hyper-V as the OS. I'm planning on using Hitachi 900GB drives, and this will give me MORE than enough disk space to install Hyper-V and with the remaining space, create a few virtual machines with enough storage as file servers, etc.

I'm using two servers for redundancy of course. I'm purposely not using some form of iSCSI or separate storage only to keep my costs as reasonable as possible and the servers will easily supply my needs. I'll be buying Server 2012 Datacenter Edition, and that will be used as my virtual machine OSes.

is there's anything wrong with using the local storage on the 1U servers to run my VMs on?

Since I have two (2) individual servers that will be hosting Datacenter OS VMs, I can still achieve redundancy, clustering, etc., can't I between all of my VMs, etc., can't I?

Thank you,
Ed

After upgrade to 2012, all VMs freeze at stopping state

I was running 4VMs on a single host - all 2008 R2 OS.  I upgraded my host to 2012, and now all of my VMs freeze while trying to shutdown, or restart.  I've figured out it has to be the network drivers - as if I change the VNIC to none, there are no problems restarting or shutting down.  I've tried the stock drivers, new drivers, etc - nothing seems to work now.  Why was this working just fine in 2008R2 and now it's not compatible in 2012??

Anyone have some advice for me besides spending more money on a network card?

Hi,

Once I configure my Windows 8 Hyper-V External Virtual Network Switch to use my laptop Wireless adapter, all VMs has External NIC can access internet, however the physical Windows 8 host lost the internet connection, although I checked "Allow management operating system to share this network adapter",

What can be the problem?

RemoteFX hanging Hyper-V settings without AD installed

I have a AMD Athlon II x64 635 CPU which according to this site, has RVI for Hyper-V.  My mobo is a MSI 785GM-P45.  My video card is a ATI HD 4200.

Before I had Hyper-V running, my server did have AD on it but once I setup Hyper-V, I transferred all the roles to a Virtual DC and removed AD off my server.

When I add the RemoteFX role to the server and reboot, My hyper V settings page hang up.  I haven't seen any other solutions other than checking the GPO for the logon message, which I am not using.

Coreinfo shows that I do have the options but I am also running it against the Hypervisor since it's already configured.

I am not seeing anything in the logs but I could have missed something.

I have a feeling there is a piece of the AD role left behind which Hyper-V is seeing and thus freezing up.

Can anyone suggest anything?

Hyper-V Replication - Failed to Enable

$

I have successfully gotten three VMs to enable replication; but on my next VM I keep getting the same error message when I try to enable replication.

"Hyper-V failed to enable replication for virtual machine 'IPAM': The operation timed out (0x00002EE2)."

Nothing has changed since I enabled replication for the other VMs, and I am at a loss as to why this VM is having issues.

The only odd thing I have noticed is on the DR node, Hyper-V creates the VM and creates the cluster resource role for the VM but never adds the VM to the resource role.

I have gone through the "Understanding and Troubleshooting guide for Hyper-V Replica" but that has not helped identify the problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Migration of VM's from Local Storage to SAN

Hi,

We have 2 2008 R2 Hyper-V Servers running a bunch of VM's and all the corresponding VM files (VHD's) reside on local storage on each respective Hyper-V server.

Now we have procured a new Dell 3200 Storage Shelf which we plan to connect to both the above Hyper-V nodes.

Is it possible to migrate all the VM's off to shared storage using SCVMM 2008 R2 in the above setup.

Thanks.

Linux Multi-Processor support

Has there been any mention of when HyperV will support Multi-processors for Linux?  Support document on MSDN still says one processor support only.  Has anybody got more than one processor to work?

Thank you.

Uninstall integration tools from guest vm

Hi Folks,

I have a win2k adv server that keeps giving me a bsod. I cant even get in via safe mode.

The error seems to reference vmstorfl.ysy as being the offender.

So my question is, is there a way of uninstalling the integration tools from the recovery console via something like a windows pe image or directly attaching the vhd to another machine and loading the registry hive.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

The exact error I am getting is

*** STOP 0X000000CE (0xEB070000,0x0000000,0x00000000)

DRIVER_UNLOADED_WITHOUT_CANCELLING_PENDING_OPERATIONS

This driver may be at fault :vmstorfl.sys

How to clone physical machine into Hyper-V 2012

$

Hi

We would like to clone our physical server (running Windows 2008 R2, with RODC role) into our Hyper-V enviorment (running on Windows Server 2012).

Our plan is to install SCVMM later on in our network, but we would like to do this server migration before that.

What is the best alternative to do that?

Also the server we need to clone are placed at a sales office, and SCVMM will run in our HQ (with slow internet line)

Would it be possible to clones like this with SCVMM later on without cloning it over the slow network??

Thanks :)

Hyper-V 2012 and NIC Teaming, causes Hyper-V service to fail

$

I was just curious if the configuration I'm attempting is supported or not. I know that with the release of Server 2012, NIC teaming is now supported, but I’m unsure to what level once you add Hyper-V to the mix.

Basically this is what I'm attempting, i have a 1GB NIC, and 10GB NIC in my server. I then created two teams, based on the following:

1GB NIC -> Team1

     Virtual Adapter 1 = VLAN 2

     Virtual Adapter 2 = VLAN 3

     Virtual Adapter 3 = VLAN 4

10GB NIC -> Team 2

Virtual Adapter 1 = VLAN 5 (dedicated VLAN for Live Migration traffic)

Virtual Adapter 2 = Trunk (converted to VSwitch)

After setting up this two node cluster, it appears that node 1 works fine, but node 2 does not. Any VM residing on node has no network connectivity.

I've also run into another issue, in that Hyper-V and the VMM agents fail on both servers regularly, after receiving a bunch of the following warnings in the system log:

Hi, here is the Scenario.

I have 1 Windows 8 Enterprise installed in Hyper-V. I've deployed two virtual clients also using the RDS. I followed this guide to do that : http://blog.itvce.com/?p=1569 .

So when i deployed it the first time, the 1 program that was installed (except for the ones that are default) also got transfered to the two new clients.
My question is, how do I share other apps/programs that i install on the "master" to the new clients?

Live Migration VM from 2012 Host to Desktop Windows 8. Is it possible?

Hi, everybody.

Can anyone tells me is it possible:

I have 2012 Host DC Edition. I have 1 VM on it, and I want to migrate this VM to desktop PC under Windows 8 Pro with Hyper-V feature?

For now, Server provide property which allow to migrate (live) VM from one 2012 host to another without clustering Hyper-V. Is Windows 8 operation system allows end user to participate in live migration process and I will be able to cut VM from enterprise to my desktop and bring it to client, for example?

Thanx a lot!

Very interesting to me and U i think

Hyper-v 3.0 replicated server - specify location of replicated VHD drives?

$

Hi all,

I have two identical servers with lots of quick storage (direct attached storage, however, not a SAN, NAS etc.), both with Server 2012/hyper-v 3.0 installed. I'm hosting an SQL server VM on server A (source) and I want the replication to to go to server B (target).

However, on server B, I'd like to be able to define the volumes where the replicated VHDs reside. The virtual server will be a SQL server, so there's a data partition, log file partition, etc. which I'd like to have mapped identically on server B. No one volume has the capacity to store the equivalent data of the combined data set of server A.

Is this possible at all?

Thanks in advance.

Using PowerShell 3.0 to disconnect a VHDX drive from VM running in Windows 2012 Server Hyper-V

I am trying to find the powershell command-let that disconnects a vhdx SCSI hard disk from a vm that is shut down.  (We have a huge data drive that we want to disconnect before we export the VM for backup purposes.)  We also need to re-connect the drive once the export is complete.

We can do this manually under Windows 2012 Hyper-V

File->Settings->SCSI drive->Remove

We just want to know what the underlying PowerShell commands are so we can automate this process.

Many thanks in advance for your help
