Cannot create Hyper-V external virtual switch Server 2012 R2

Hi,

I am unable to create an external virtual switch on server 2012 R2.  I have two Broadcom NICS bridged on a DC fully functional now.  I can install Hyper-V but the option is grayed out to create an external switch.  I try binding it to the network bridge, connecting my two NICS and it makes no difference.

Am I correct in assuming that I cannot use Hyper-V on this server if the two NICS are bridged?

I am trying to centrally manage all my port ACLs for VM net adapters from VMM but I am not able to run the command.

I try to run the command from"Add-VMNetworkAdapterExtendedAcl"SCVMM PowerShell terminal:

PS C:\Users\Administrator> Add-VMNetworkAdapterExtendedAcl -VMName "Web-VM1" -Action "allow" -Direction "Outbound"

And get the following:

Add-VMNetworkAdapterExtendedAcl : The cmdlet cannot find a specified class. Verify that the relevant feature is

I have this issue with my migrated VM, which is a 2008 x86 VM (domain controller in this case)..

I cant get hyperV integration services to show up in Programs and features or fully install

Mouse pointer integration isnt working, i've tried the HAL option in msconfig and rebooted..

but each time i reboot there are mutliple unknown devices.. i run the setup for integration services, i get this error:

It gets to installing guest components...

"an error has occurred:  One of the update processes returned error code 1"

Any thoughts?

(i had recently tried adding a new network controller, and added a drive to the SCSI controller, not sure if these are related to the issue)

Virtual Server Re-starts every couple of days without any reason

Hi,

We are using Hyper-V on Windows Server 2012. We have three virtual servers defined under Hyper-V. One of these is our terminal server and it is re-starting every couple of days without any reason. I have gone through the event logs. There is no event recorded 15 mins before the server re-starts. Hyper-V records the following event details :

Host-Server Error : 18590 Critical Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-Worker Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-Worker-

'Terminal-Server123' has encountered a fatal error.  The guest operating system reported that it failed with the following error codes: ErrorCode0: 0xD1, ErrorCode1: 0xFFFFFFF0, ErrorCode2: 0x2, ErrorCode3: 0x1, ErrorCode4: 0x44D2C22.  If the problem persists, contact Product Support for the guest operating system.  (Virtual machine ID 3A25CCF9-BC65-4422-A69B-A629E719140A)

Can someone push me in the direction of a probable solution ?

Remote Hyper-V Manager: Unable to establish communication between server and client

Hi everybody,

I know that my problem is not a new one and there are tons of post and blogs that talking on it. But it seem that my case is a little different because all solutions that I found doesn't work.

Let present the case: I have 2 Hyper-V Server 2012 in a datacenter (call it Host1 and Host2). The datacenter is connected to my office though a VPN managed by our ISP. From my computer in my office (Call it Test and he run under Windows Server 2012), I can remotely manage both servers with Server Manager (File, Storage, Hyper-V, ...). When I open Hyper-V Manager, I can only manage the VM running on Host1. For Host2, I receive the message "RPC Server Unavailable. Unable to establish communication between"Host2" and "Test". But I can manage Hyper-V host settings, Virtual Switches, ... The only things that I can manage is the VM running on this host.

The problem is not present between the 2 host.

After reading a lot of things, I not find how I can resolve this. Somebody can help me?

Thanks in advance.

HyperV and Failover Cluster Disjoined

$

Windows 2008 R2:

I've got an odd one where I can't seem to make heads or tails of. In my environment I have 3 servers acting in a Hyper V failover cluster. We've been having issues where when we attempt to Live Migrate a VM from one host to another, move or do storage migration the Hyper V Console reports a correct configuration but the Failover Cluster does not.

Example:  I did an export of a VM and an Import of the VM.  Hyper V Manager and SCVMM reports that the VM's storage is in the new location.  The VM is online and running.  I can remote desktop into the VM, I can ping the VM and the VM is working as expected.  However, I'm getting errors in the Event Log every hour and in the Failover Cluster Manager the VM is offline with an error.  The event log errors in the System log are as follows:

EventID:  1205 Source:  FailoverClustering

The Cluster service failed to bring clustered service or application 'VMName' completely online or offline. One or more resources may be in a failed state. This may impact the availability of the clustered service or application.

EventID:  21502 Source:  Hyper-V-High-Availability

'SCVMM VMName Configuration' failed to unregister the virtual machine with the virtual machine management service.

EventID:

EventID:  21502  Source:  Hyper V-High-Availability

'SCVMM VMName Configuration' failed to register the virtual machine with the virtual machine management service.

The Virtual Machine Management Service failed to register the configuration for the virtual machine 'EEDD18D9-83C7-4D2B-B7A2-E8D88869987C' at 'C:\ClusterStorage\Volume4\Virtual Machines\VMName': Cannot create a file when that file already exists. (0x800700B7)

Note:  The C:\ path above is the OLD path where the VM was located, not the new one.

Doing a quick Google I found that we should be restarting the Cluster Service to resolve this on one of the hosts.  However, this happens every time we do anything with the VM"s.  Live Migrate, Move Storage, etc.  Restarting the Cluster Service kind of defeats the purpose of being able to Live Migrate a VM.  Is there a better solution?

Hyper-V error 29292 with HTTPS replication

$

Hello!

I have two host machines - Host1 and Host3 (WinServer 2012R2), Host1 contains DC2 VM that is being replicated to Host3 using certificates.

Yesterday I shut down both servers and when I turned them on today morning Hyper-V statred complaining:

The Host3 machine is up and running, its firewall is disabled, its certificate is ok, no changes have been applied to either server.

Given that Host3 doesn't have IIS installed how can I check that Host3 is accessable on SSL port? What steps should I take in this situation?

Thank you in advance,

Michael

Teaming NICs and Assigning to VMs

Hi!

Is it better to team the NICs on Hyper-V Host and then assign it to VMs after creating the virtual switch or assigning separate physical NICs is better if there are only 2 or 3 VMs.

Thanks.

2012 R2 Hyper-V cluster + SMB 3.0 SOFS share permissions issues

$

I have a 2 node 2012 R2 guest cluster, both nodes have the Hyper-V role installed on them

I setup CSV

I setup SMB 3.0 SOFS inside the CSV

I'm having a lot of trouble with permissions on the share, i'm unable to create VMs and VHD/X files through the MSCS console or Hyper-V console, getting a lot of permission denied messages randomly.  some of what I see is explained here:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/josebda/archive/2012/11/14/windows-server-2012-file-server-tip-avoid-loopback-configurations-for-hyper-v-over-smb.aspx

but i'm not sure if this applies to R2, I can't find anything about having the SOFS and Hyper-V roles running on different nodes or poiting to the CSV hard path rather than the UNC share path in Hyper-V:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj134187.aspx

At first the CSV was setup with ReFS, I rebuilt it with NTFS but it didn't help.

I have made sure that the virtual cluster computer object and the two cluster nodes' computer objects in AD all have full control NTFS permissions on the share, the user i'm administering the cluster with also has full control, sharing permissions are set to Everyone full control as by default when SOFS is created.

I even setup Kerberos delegation which I shouldn't really have to for this stage until I decide to do replication, but it didn't help.

If anyone has done this successfully or can clarify what exactly needs to happen to make it work, please share.

Hi a Quick question about setting up the Hyper-V Replica Broker Role.

I do have a lab cluster running already, is there anything I should be aware of, is it ok to install this role on a cluster already running Virtual Servers. I don't want to break my lab cluster :-)

Problem with avhd Files

$

Hello i have a bad issue with HyperV and my VM

Let me explain from the start: We shut down a virtual machine to delete a Snapshot with Hyper V Virtual Manager. So the process begins but stops at 48%, not enough disk space ! We stopped the automatic merge and took another snapshot, which we interrupted at some point (dont ask me why).

Then we exported the VM to an attached NAS to merge the avhd manually, i now have 2 ahvd and vhd File. If i merge the latest to avhd as written here: http://itproctology.blogspot.ch/2008/06/how-to-manually-merge-hyper-v-snapshots.html
i cant connect the 2 "vhds" with eachother, it comes up with an error "Invalid parameter" when i try to reconnect.

If i start the VM i get an error with the broken chain sth like this:

http://toddbaginski.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/SNAGHTML19e8d12b.png

Somehow its still trying to do an automatic merge in the background iof the Hyperv Manager, expecially if i start the VM, how can i stop this?

Any help is really appreciated

Best regards

Can't RDP into 2012 R2 across VPN

I can RDP into a Hyper-V 2012 R2 server across the local LAN with no problem.

However I'm getting a black screen and timeout disconnect when trying to RDP into the same server across Hamachi VPN. The clients connects and I can authenticate. The active LAN session is terminated after authentication, but the session never fully loads at the remote client.

Inbound firewall rules are identical; outbound rules are set to Allow. In fact I disabled the firewall completely on Server5, but didn't see any improvement.

Here's the basic summary:

Server1: Hyper-V 2012

  • Workgroup mode (same workgroup)
  • Can RDP through local LAN, Win8.0 client
  • Can RDP through Hamachi VPN, Win8.1 client

Server5: Hyper-V 2012 R2

  • Workgroup mode (same workgroup)
  • Can RDP through local LAN, Win8.0 client
  • Can not RDP through Hamachi VPN, Win8.1 client

On Server5 I'm getting this Information-level entry in the Application event for the VPN connection, but not for the LAN connection:

very poor disk performance within a VM

i have hyperv on windows server 2012 R2 running on a hp dl380 G8p with 2x 4core XeonE5-2620 smart array P420i with 1Gb BBWC and 80 GB of Server RAM

about 10 VMs running but some of them are extremely slow on the disk level.

in the VM the disk response times are from 1000 up to 7000 miliseconds while on the psycial level if i monitor the specific VHDX file it has 1 milisecond disk response time and 2-3 MB/s Total B/s counter.

The VM take ages to boot and responses very slowly to basic clicks. on the physical level all the counters seem to be very happy. CPU 3% MEMORY 80% Ethernet 20 Mbps. Disk response times 0-3 ms, disk queue 0,00-0,04. Nothing special really.

But within the VM (running MS Project 2013 which is bascially a sharepoint) i get crazy values for the disk performance. Other VMs at the same time do not seem to be in trouble. Only that one VM. CPU and RAM values are all fine

I have tried to use QOS for disks, dynamic memory or no dynamic memory (20 GB RAM), uninstalled antivirus but nothing is having a positive impact on the VM performance. The same behavior with the same VM was on the same physical server when there was windows 2008 R2 HyperV.

I start to think that i am experiencing some hyperV specific issue with that VM as this one http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2517329/en-us but as i am not on 2008 R2 anymore it does not apply.

Hello all,

when trying to connect to a VM using the console in Hyper-V manager I am getting vmconnect.exe has stopped working with the following error.

  Problem Event Name:CLR20r3

Is there anything specific I can do to resolve this, I have searched the forums but the responses vary and seem very vague as to what is the actual solution to the issue.

Set a delay for automatic shutdown of virtual machines

$

Hallo,

is there a way to set a delay for the automatic shutdown of the guests when the host is shutting down? Just like the automatic startup delay but for the shutdown. The simplest possibility would be to shutdown the guest in the opposite of the startup delay.

I want to shutdown the Exchange Server first and then the rest - the virtual Domain Controller should be shutdown as the last server.
