Hi,
So I am testing with Hyper-V Server 2019, which I deployed to three brand new HP Proliant gen10 machines. I'll test on them for a while before putting them in production. Installation was a breeze, as with Hyper-V 2016. However, I can't seem to enable RDP on Hyper-V Server 2019. When I enable through the menu, it says it's done so, but alas, netstat -a reveals there isn't even a process listenening on port 3389.
I checked the registry, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server is correct. The required services are running. Firewall is completely disabled through netsh for testing. Remote administration is working fine, RDP is not listening at all.
Anyone else ran into this?
The only anwers I've found are almost 10 years old...
Does Hyper-V work with AMD CPUs (Ryzen in particular)?
If not, will it?
As far as I know AMD is also going to make server chips so I guess there is hope for that.
Hello Everyone,
I am a beginner in Microsoft forums so please excuse and guide me if i posted this in wrong section of the forum.
Server Configured like this:
1. A physical server named "RGB" and a virtual machine within it named "SON"
2. SON is primary domain controller and RGB is a backup domain controller.
3. SON has Remote access role installed which is working fine as of now.
4. RGB has Tally licence gateway server installed which is an accounting software.
5. RGB IP Address is 192.168.1.101
6. SON IP Address is 192.168.1.102
7. Remote Access Server assigns IP Address to its Internal Adaptor 192.168.1.201 (through DHCP when the VPN server is online)
My Problem is: (finally :p)
RGB has Tally licence gateway server (accounting software) installed which should distribute licence to its clients through its IP Address 192.168.1.101 (in normal scenario)
But in my case the licence is distributed through 192.168.1.201 which is only available if VPN server is online.
I want to correct this scenario and redirect clients to access licence server through its default ip address 192.168.1.101
If anyone has a clue as to why this is happening and can help me out to rectify the same please revert.
Hi,
In a few weeks we will have major network maintenance. For about 5min we will lose all network connectivity. We tested this scenario in a lab and noticed that the Hyper-V cluster evacuated all hosts one by one and shutdown the VMs. Even though we had quorum disks supplied over FC. How can I protect my Hyper-V clusters from shutting down because of network failure?

Hello,
I have created a CentOS 7 hyper-v based VM on by windows 10 pro machine. I have installed the LIS 4.3.3 in the guest OS and have restarted both the guest and the host machine.
For the CentOS VM, i have enabled all the integration services. Following are the problem which I am facing
Can anyone please assist me on this ?
TIA
Hi,
I have an SBE 2016 Server running on physical hardware. I am trying to P2V it so that it can be run as a VM
on a 2019 Hyper-V host. I have tried various ways to P2V the SBE 2016 Server using Disk2VHD doing it as a
VHD or VHDX, but when I build a new VM on the Hyper-V host and attach the imaged VHD/VHDX it refuses to boot.
All I get is black screen with a flashing cursor about 4 lines down the screen. If I mount the VHD's in Disk Manager
on a PC I can see the contents of the VHD's fine.
Anybody have any suggestions how to fix this?
Thanks
DB
Recently went through a Microsoft RAP (Risk Assessment Program) and they flagged the following:
RECOMMENDATION:
Consider upgrading BIOS Versions that are between 5 and 7 years old.
DETAIL:
Server Name: _____ Release Date: 11/26/2012 12:00:00 AM Days Old: 2437 Manufacturer: [[GetValue Mfg.ReturnValue]] Serial Number: ____-_____-____-____-____-____-__ BIOS Version: Hyper-V UEFI Release v1.0 BIOS Major Version: 2 BIOS Minor Version: 4
So they are asking for my Hyper-V VM's BIOS/UEFI version to be upgraded.
I can understand how to update my physical devices, but I've never heard of updating this inside the VM.
Can anyone confirm this can be done and perhaps supply a helpful URL?
Hi, I was trying to isntall linux subsystem through powershell, and when I tried to use "Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName VirtualMachinePlatform" command, I get a following error,
Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature : Feature name VirtualMachinePlatform is unknown.
At line:1 char:1
+ Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName VirtualMachinePlat ...
+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
+ CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (:) [Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature], COMException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : Microsoft.Dism.Commands.EnableWindowsOptionalFeatureCommand
Not so sure how to fix this.
I first posted this on Microsoft Community, and one suggestion was to "Locate the Trusted Installer service, restart it, and set the startup type to automatic," but I wasn't able to locate that as well. How should I go about this issue?
Thanks

Hi,
We have Hyper-V 2016 Traditional Failover Cluster, most of VMs up time is very low (around 6 days), most of VMs are activated using VMAC (except some VMs that VMAC command shows successful activation, but Server Manager still shows not Active, although all Hyper-V hosts are activated with Windows Server 2016 Datacenter Edition), Applications owner reported that their VMs seems reboot automatically periodically, and some times reboot while they are working on it without any notification.
The only event that can be related is information System Event shown on most of VMs as ["Successfully scheduled Software Protection service for restart: Reason: RulesEngine"], and other events related to [Software Protection Service scheduled to restart in 05-08-2019].

Any clue?

Hi All,
I have noticed on several clusters upon which I've worked, that there is a huge fall off in the expected performance after LUNs added to the hosts are turned over into cluster shared volumes. With the LUNs attached to the hosts before clustering, I typically
see the full performance afforded by the the network and the SAN.
However when the CSV is created on the storage, and local Virtual machines are moved into the cluster, the guests suddenly become more sluggish. Tests then reveal that the LUN's are not delivering their full performance.
I had wondered if the management network performance then comes into play, but I'm unable to verify this after restricting associated ports to 100Mbs. Its strange however that we typically see this kind of performance degradation once the CSV's are created
and none of the VM's I work on clustered seem to have stella performance now matter what the storage backing actually is. I've checked out Qos settings, but note that the load balancing registry values mentioned in other articles are missing from 2019 HyperV
Core which is what's in use in my test scenario.
Test scenario setup
is based upon my ageing test bed.
1 x DL360 Gen8
1 x DL360 Gen7 (CPU compatibility enabled on all guests)
1 Proware IPS SAN 4 x 1Gbe in 2 x 2Gbe LACP aggregated Links
Hosts connected to iSCSI network via 2x2 LACP Teams each, with iSCSI on in its own VLAN on a CISCO 2960G
Management network 1Gbe only unfortunately due to lack of NICS and available switch ports in test setup
Data Link Network not in use by Host OS. All management, data and iSCSI networks in their own VLAN's on 2960.
The SAN typically gives 700 - 900 MB/s when served up as attached LUN's. Although I am not sure how this manages this speads over the iSCSI network mentioned above but however it does, and it maintains it over large files tested up to 100GB plus.
I have video of what I'm seeing that I will link to when my account is verified.
Hello.
I'm having an issue with two VMs 2008 R2 running onto my 2012 R2 hyper-v cluster (two nodes). When I finished the configuration of the NLB between my VMs everything starts working as expected, but after a few seconds the NLB I've configured in my VMs stops working.
I already tried unicast, multicast and IGMP multicast modes in my NLB, changed the host priority, uninstalled the latest updates from the VMs and the hosts and the problem persist. I also tried to install the KB4457133, but I get the error "it doesn't apply for my operating system".
The only thing I didn't try yet is build again my 2012 R2 hyper-v cluster from scratch without applying any Windows updates.
I hope to find here a light at the end of the tunnel, someone have some tip?
Thanks a lot!
Mauro.
Hello,
Is it possible create vxlan tunnel beetwen hyper-v hosts? and manage this connection like separated network-adapters (add ipv4 subnet, etc)?
If it possible, can anybody provide example or say correct object in Microsoft.Windows.NetworkController.* ?
p.s. where can i read about all objects Microsoft.Windows.NetworkController.* ?
Thanks!
Hi all,
I could really use some help here. I evicted an failed HyperV node from our 2 node cluster, rebuilt it and am trying to re-inject it back to the cluster.
NOTE: The host was rebuilt using the same node name.
When i try to add the node i get the following error:
'Cluster service on node SERVER2 did not reach the running state. The error code is 0x5b4. For more information check the cluster log and the system event log from node SERVER2. This operation returned because the timeout period expired.'
In the FailoverClustering event log i see:
cxl::ConnectWorker::operator (): HrError(0x00000002)' because of '[SV] Schannel Authentication or Authorization Failed'
mscs_security::SchannelSecurityContext::AuthenticateAndAuthorize: (2)' because of 'Cluster certificate doesn't exist'
I did a search for the above errors however none of the below has worked:
I am lost of ideas apart from the fact that i am trying to add a 2019 node to a 2012R2 node cluster.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I am using Windows 8 Pro (with Hyper-V Role) and have created a Guest Virtual Machine for Windows 2012.
I am surprised to see that the Guest Virtual Machine Connection only has one way to send Clipboard text. Wish the Clipboard menu was complete to support copy/paste both ways.
How does one transfer clipboard text from guest to Host. Please note that I have not setup networking on my Guest.
Thanks & Regards,

Hi
We are unable to restart the Hyper-V Windows 2016 server: when restarting the Hyper V Server it shuts down instead, and we need to physically push the power button on the server in order to start it again.
The Virtual Windows 2016 server does not have this problem, and restarts fine.
In the event Viewer we have the following information:
The process C:\Windows\system32\shutdown.exe (HYPERV) has initiated the restart of computer HYPERV on behalf of user HYPERV\Administrator for the following reason: No title for this reason could be found
Reason Code: 0x800000ff
Shutdown Type: restart
Comment:
Event ID: 1074
*****
We had tryed to shutdown via command like shutdown /r .
And we have got following sugestion:
A
click start and type power plan and select 'choose a power plan' from the list
next to the power plan that is selected click 'change plan settings'
click 'change advanced power settings'
under power buttons and lid set power button and sleep button (and lid if its there) to do nothing.
should prevent events from power button.
B
Go to "Settings"
Select "System"
Select "Power and Sleep"
Select "Additional Power Settings"
Select "Choose what the power buttons do"
Select "Change settings currently available"
Ensure that "Turn on fast start up" is deselected (unticked)
Click on "Save Changes"
The sugestion did not help
A hint would be nice
Best Regards

Hello,
I have a Windows Server 2016 server running and have Hyper-V role installed via Server Manager. I have installed Windows 10 Pro 1903 as a VM within Hyper-V. Can I activate this VM with AVMA? I was researching this and only seem to find articles where the automatic activation applies to Server VMs. Thanks in advance for the insight!

I am having trouble starting the virtual machine using Hyper-V. It keeps prompting this error:
The application encountered an error while attempting to change the state of 'virtual machine'
'Virtual Machine' failed to start.
(Virtual machine ID D77B673-E1AB-4739-A539-7CF6BDE89ACE)
I have searched for solutions but none of those worked. I am running on Windows 10 Pro, I have configured all the necessary settings on Hyper-V such as the hard drives and private networks. Any ideas on how to solve this error?

Hi Guys,
"Virtual machine migration operation failed at migration source" Failed to copy file.
On HyperV1 (source) i have set use theese IP "192.168.140.0/24" on destination same settings...
This is already the second customer and the same problem as if hyper-v ignored the new 10GbE retina. Is it possible to set priority / weight etc.?
