Windows Server 2012 Login Issue "The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded."

$

Whenever I try to login to our Exchange Server, I receive the following error:

"The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded."

The issue affects more than one user.

Relevant Info:

Server Version: 2012 Datacenter

Exchange Version: 2013

The Exchange server is virtualized.

What I've tried:

1) Remote Desktop from a workstation on the network

2) Remote Desktop from Virtual Machine Manager

3) Connect via console from Virtual Machine Manager

4) Accessing the server via Computer Management and adding my user account to Allow Login via Remote Desktop

5) Creating a new user account for myself by copying the account of a user who can get in

6) Rebooting

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

How to select correct boot partition from multi-partition .vhdx file?

I am relatively new to managing Hyper-V servers. I have been sent some .VHDX files that are the exports of disks from a a working Hyper-V server. However the C:\ drive is a partition of one of the supplied .VHDX files and I cannot figure out how to create a new VM that will boot from this existing C:\ drive (the original OS is Server 2008 R2 Standard Ed). The files supplied are structured as follows, according to the individual who supplied them:

PMDLINK-0.VHDX Drives C: and E:

PMDLINK-1.VHDX Drive F:

PMDLINK-2.VHDX Drive D:

I initially tried creating a new Hyper-V VM by using the 'New' > 'Virtual Machine' Wizard. I gave the VM a new name, stored the machine at the default location where there is plenty of disk space. For Generation type I was unsure so I have tried creating new machines of both Generation 1 and 2 types. Assigned 12GB RAM, selected 'Default Switch' for connection. For 'Connect Virtual Hard Disk' I selected the option 'Use an existing virtual hard disk' and set path to the 'PMDLINK-0.VHDX' file.

When configured as Generation 1 and I try to initially start the machine, I get message 'Missing operating system'

When configured as Generation 2 and I try to start the machine, I get message 'Start PXE over IPv4' and shortly after a further message 'No operating system was loaded. Your virtual machine may be configured incorrectly. Exit and re-configure your VN or click restart to retry the current boot sequence again'<o:p></o:p>

I have also tried mounting the source drive on my windows 10 laptop, which displays the following partitions once mounted:

I then created a new virtual drive from the Computer management 'Actions' menu again on my windows 10 lap"font-family:Verdana, sans-serif;font-size:9pt;">At this point I initialised the new disk but did not create any partitions. I then used 'AOMEI Partition Assistant'  to copy the source partition from the I: drive above to the newly created virtual drive:

Which resulted in the following, I renamed the volume to 'OS Part':

I finally created a new virtual machine in Hyper-V manager (still on my windows 10 laptop) and for the hard drive, selected 'use an existing virtual hard disk' and pointed to the newly created virtual drive. The machine was created successfully. However when I tried to start it, again I created the machine twice for both 'Generation 1' and 'Generation 2' but still it failed to boot:

Generation 1 - started, but just displays black screen with white blinking cursor<o:p></o:p>

Generation 2 - started, but displays message 'Start PXE over IPv4'<o:p></o:p>

(Sorry I will add the images later once my account is verified)

Error Cluster Shared Volume 'STATUS_CONNECTION_DISCONNECTED(c000020c)'

Good Morning.

I have problem in the Windows Server 2016 (Server Core) cluster (Cluster Shared Volume), where in the event viewer '' STATUS_CONNECTION_DISCONNECTED (c000020c) 'All I / O will be temporarily queued until a path to the volume is re-established. "

I have the idea that you are not finding the cluster disk, but still that does not make sense to me.

What I noticed, that when I leave the Volume / Disk in this NODE is presenting problems and when I have a virtual server in this NODE and I use it, it gives the same problem.

I have already installed the latest updates, but I have not found the solution yet.

SDDC Management cluster role Error

Trying to use Windows Admin  Center with my microsoft hyperconverged cluster/ Using powershell installed  SDDC Management role but it doesn't starts with errors:

SDDC Management cluster resource failed to come online.

Resource: SDDC Management
Status: There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper.

Cluster resource 'SDDC Management' of type 'SDDC Management' in clustered role 'Cluster Group' failed. The error code was '0x6d9' ('There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper.').

Based on the failure policies for the resource and role, the cluster service may try to bring the resource online on this node or move the group to another node of the cluster and then restart it.  Check the resource and group state using Failover Cluster Manager or the Get-ClusterResource Windows PowerShell cmdlet.

Which way should i look?

Ways to retrieve files from a corrupted snapshot file?

Hi Experts,

My team did something wrong in the snapshot files of our VMs that eventually made them corrupted.  Now, booting the base disk, doesnt show up the files that we are looking for, they appear to be on the corrupted snaps and we need to recover them. Has anyone been in this situation?  What are the ways you guys did to recover the files in the corrupted snapshot files?  Is it still possible to recover them?  Please advise.

Thank You!

MyServer requires resychronization because it is about to run out of disk space on '%3' available space is less than %4MB.(Virtual machine ID %2)

I have check disk space on my 2 host servers and then virtual but none are running out.
Which server is it talking about?

Hyper-V manager will not start VM-- timed out

I am using windows pro 10 on a home AD domain. The manager creates and verifies the VM files easily, but will not start any of the VMs. The errors (in the event log) only show "timed out". I have added myself (and I am a domain administrator) to the Hyper-V administrator group on the computer, turned off Norton AV and firewall, disabled Windows Defender, ran the manager as an elevated app and regularly. Still no joy. I see this issue quite a bit in the forum. Does anyone have an idea how to proceed. I also have checked the hardware requirements for Hyper-V and this machine passes.

Unable to convert existing snapshot to ReferencePoint.

Hello!

I'm trying to implement fast backup tool for Windows Server 2016+ Hyper-V (configuration 8+). I am using  C++ COM WMI. I was able to successfully create a snapshot and wait for Job is done but get in trouble to convert it to ReferencePoint. For this purpose I use  ROOT\virtualization\v2 namespace, ConvertToReferencePoint method of the Msvm_VirtualSystemSnapshotService class. Incoming parameters field with: AffectedSnapshot contains __PATH of Msvm_VirtualSystemSettingData (Checkpoint settings for the virtual machine.), ReferencePointSettings left empty because it noted in docs as optional. After method executing new Job not created (Job out param) is null and ReturnValue  is 32770 (vendor specific range).

What am I doing wrong?

HyperV Cluster Replica Broker error - "object could not be found" from Enable-VMReplication Powershell

$

Ok I admit it. This one is driving me crazy ;)

1) I have two Server2016 (Standard) HyperV Clusters - Source01 and DR01. Both part of same forest/domain.

2) Both Source01 and DR01 clusters have a HyperV Replica Broker installed and replication settings configured for Kerberos, Port80 and allow from any server.

3) I can initiate VM Replica successfully in both directions using the FailoverClusterManager UI. It creates the replica, transfers the initial data and everything appears to work.

However....

I need to create the replica using Powershell, but when I try to do it using the Enable-VMReplication powershell command it fails with:

I must be doing something wrong as the UI works. Perhaps some remote permissions not enabled? Remote WMI? something? hopefully some rookie mistake...

1) I've turned the firewall of DR01 off (just in case, just until figure out this issue)

2) The hyperV virtual machine management service is running correctly on both Source01 and DR01

3) the HyperV console on Source01 can correctly connect to DR01 and view/manage the VMs in the console - and vice versa.

Anyone got any ideas? Or seen this behaviour before?

thanks

Joe.

Hyper-V 2019 VM Cluster Replication

Ever since upgrading our 2 Hyper-V clusters to 2019 from 2012 R2 when trying to set up a new VM replication I get errors. Works for existing VMs replicating that were created before the upgrade but any new VMs fail. Enabling the replication seems to create the VM fine on the replica and creates drives at 4,096KB ready for replication but trying to start the initial replication fails with the error:

Doing the same process through the failover cluster gui I get a similar error. Says the replication was enabled successfully however initial replication could not be started. And goes on to say Hyper-V could not find the virtual machine on the replica server.

Has this yet to be recognized as a bug in Windows Server 2019?

Hyper-V Server 2019 - RDP not working

$

Hi,

So I am testing with Hyper-V Server 2019, which I deployed to three brand new HP Proliant gen10 machines. I'll test on them for a while before putting them in production. Installation was a breeze, as with Hyper-V 2016. However, I can't seem to enable RDP on Hyper-V Server 2019. When I enable through the menu, it says it's done so, but alas, netstat -a reveals there isn't even a process listenening on port 3389.

I checked the registry, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server is correct. The required services are running. Firewall is completely disabled through netsh for testing. Remote administration is working fine, RDP is not listening at all.

Anyone else ran into this?

Adding route information in a Windows 10 VM

Is there a trick to editing route tables in a Windows 10 VM in Hyper V?  I have a virtual switch associated with a virtual network adapter in the Windows VM.  I need to interface this to a network emulator in another VM in Hyper V.  From a non virtual machine I would normally use "route add...".  However, whenever I try to do this in the Windows 10 VM I get an error message:  "The route addition failed: Element not found".  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

How to connect wifi clients to Hyper-V-based domain

$

1 Hyper-V host with a 4-port NIC running Windows Server 2019 Datacenter Core

Domain Controller VM and client VMs running on it, connected through an Internal vSwitch.  DC runs DHCP.  Client VMs connected to this Internal vSwitch get DHCP from DC fine.

Flat 192.168.0.x network, looking to keep it as simple as possible for now.

I would now like to connect wireless clients to this DHCP network.

I have a wireless router that I turned into a bridge by disabling its DHCP and uPNP, and setting a static 192.168.0.x IP for it.

What should I do to enable clients connecting to this bridge to grab an IP from this DC?

(I've tried various things, but don't want to clutter this thread with my (likely faulty) actions, for now.

Thank you for all guidance.

Hyper-v vs Domain Services

Server 2012

Pretty sure I had the Hyper-v role installed on my server.

Last night I installed the Active Directory Services role. On reboot, neither role is installed. Not sure what happened, but maybe someone can comment.

ALSO...

What is the preferred arrangement:

1. Hyper-v and DC running on same local host

2. Hyper-v with DC running on VM

3. Separate DC on designated physical server

4. Other best practice

My intention is to use the hyper-v manager server for virtual environments;  to help with application development on different server environments. I want a Domain Controller because I need a practice environment for testing domain services.

HyperV Checkpoint/ Snapshot errors for Backup

$

Hi, we have recently created a Hyper-V server but after a few days of use we can no longer take backups. If we restart the VM the checkpoint still fail but if we restart the host they begin to work again. Is there a way of releasing whatever process is using the file so we can take checkpoints for backup again? I've attached a screenshot of the error.

Is there an easy way to find out what process is using the avhdx checkpoint file and can this be deleted to allow the checkpoint process to run. Also the VM does not show it has any checkpoints in the HyperV manager so assume these are created as part of a backup process.

Hello,

Microsoft Admin Center states it supports Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 and I must upgrade to Powershell 5.0+.

Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 ships w/ 4.0 and fails to upgrade to 5.0 or above.

It state the OS is not supported.

Any ideas? I can't find anything about this searching online for the past 2 hours...

Thank you!

Visual Studio Professional Subscription - Hyper-V core licensing

Hi

I have a Visual Studio Professional subscription which allows me to download and use Windows Server 2016/2019 Standard or DataCentre edition. I would like to test Hyper-V on my homelab server which is equipped with 2 CPU's which have 8 cores each.  For testing purpose do I need to purchase a 16 core license if I was to use the DataCentre edition or the core license is not required when testing / using a Visual Studio Professional subscription ?

Kind regards,

Server 2016 Hyper-V Replica - Planned failover keeps trying to use short domain

$

I have two Windows Server 2016 machines running Hyper-V.  I've successfully configured Hyper-V replica but I have a problem during planned failover.  When I initiate the planned failover and check "Reverse the replication direction" box, it fails to reverse the replication direction, giving the 29262 error.  Instead of using the FQDN specified in the replica configuration, it uses the format hostname.shortdomain as the server name (the "Pre-2000" domain name).  When I manually reverse the direction and change the replica hostname to the FQDN, it works.

I believe this may have started when I migrated my Active Directory server from 2012R2 to 2016 and decommissioned my WINS server.  My current domain functional level is 2008R2, although I don't know why that would matter.

It seems to me that Hyper-V should be using the FQDN and not the short domain format when reversing direction, but I don't know how to make it do that.  Any help would be appreciated!
