Dear People i have a problem with a backup program veeam backup and replication v9

we needed like 2 months ago to build a new file server. so we did this.

we created a new machine in Hyper-v and added the disks and serve to the failovercluster.

Then we added it to a backup job in Veeam.

from the first try it didnt backupped the server Fs02.

It keeps saying abbout vss

So first i got support from veeam but they couldn’t help because it is a windows server 2012 problem.

i was looking to the vss admin writers, 3 where in a failed state:

i searched for the services of thos admin writers and restarted them. After that I rebooted the server. But still I got no success.

When I try to run a backupjob of the server in veeam this is the static log:

I don’t know if this is necessary, but for the info I put this picture with it PLEASE HELP

Retrieving VM subnet mask

Hi,

I'm looking for a way to retrieve the subnet mask of a VM running on Hyper-V.

I know there is an easy way to get the IP address (by using Get-VMNetworkAdapter or with KVP), but I found no way to get the mask. Before giving up, I choose to ask if anyone knows a trick to get it.

Thanks

Hyper-V 2012 R2 VLAN not working as expected.

Hi Guy,

I'm currently installing an Hyper-V 2012 R2 Cluster with 2 Lenovo x3550M and V3700 storwize.

I'm now on the networking parts.

both server have 4*1Gb NIC Broadcom NetXtrem |

Two Switch TP-LINK TL-SG1016DE VLAN 802.1q+LAG supported...

1) I've create a Nic Teaming on the 4*1 Gb Nic Adapter (switch independant) on both server

2) I've create a VM-Switch on this Teaming

3) I've Create 3 vEthernets :

LiveMigration Vlan 10

Cluster (CSV) Vlan 11

Admin (mgmt) untagged

on both server.

The  physical switch configuration and connection.

on both switch i've first configured the lag (TP-Link called that Trunk, I don't know what exactly type of LAG it is but not LACP) on port 1, 3, 5, 7 and connect this port to the 4 ports of both server. HyperV shows the teaming up. I've also configure this lag with vlanid 1 (PVID), 10,11.

For my test i've also configure the port 15 and 16 of the switch in a lag  in order to configure a "high speed and redundancy" link for the LiveMigration and CSV with pvid1, vlan 10 and vlan11

I've configure ip addresses on vEthernets. try a ping and nothing. no response

I've read that  Post, but since i'm not a Network Guru i'don't know if it is a misunterstood of how vlan works, an hardware or a software configuration problem

Can you give me an help please ?

Thanks

The remote server has been paused or is in the process of being started.

Ok I had a failover cluster (HVC01) consisting of 3 hosts (HV01, HV02, HV03). Two of the hosts (HV01, HV02) were powered off when the third host died. I powered on the two previously offline hosts but I can't get anything to work. Every single PowerShell command I try comes back with something similar to this:

Get-ClusterGroup : The remote server has been paused or is in the process of being started.
The remote server has been paused or is in the process of being started

The Failover Cluster Manager shows:
Node 'HVC01' is in the process of being started
The remote server has been paused or is in the process of being started.
Error Code: 0x80070046

I can't get anything to work. How the heck do I bring the cluster back online? HV03 is dead and will probably be down for days due to a bad motherboard. I can't get HV01 or HV02 to do anything related to the cluster even though they were fine before I shut them down and HV03 died.

And yes I've already Googled this...

Hello,

i am having some hyper-v-machines where WOL is enabled in the bios.

With windows 8.x on this machine, wol is working well.

On the same machine with hyper-v 2012R2 CORE wol isn`t working.

How can enable wol (power management) on the specific nic within the hyper-v Core?

Thx

Event ID or log location for drive events? Adding of and formatting.

Hey guys

I have a tech who's learning to build VMs and he inadvertently closed the console window and started making changes on the VMM server.  All he did was initialize a drive that was sitting on the management server, but I want to find out when the drive was added and the times it has been formatted.  I can't find and event IDs online for disk events, nor can I find anything perusing the most recent entries - spent the most time in System, thought for sure it would be there.

Anyway, it looks like for some reason the drive was just sitting there initialized, but I need to be sure.  If you can point me to where I can find this info either on the server itself, or some report I can generate from vmm that would be awesome.

Thanks

Windows 10 Build 10240 Managing Hyper-V on 2012 R2 Datacenter Cannot Connect

$

So, we have a total of six Hyper-V servers in our environment. All six were installed from the same Server 2012 R2 Datacenter ISO. I have been managing these from my Windows 8.1 machine with no issues. I got ahold of Windows 10 build 10240, and I am running into an issue connecting to the servers now.

The strange thing is that I CAN connect to one of them. I cannot figure out what is different on this one server from the other five. Windows updates maybe? I migrated all the VMs off one of the servers I cannot manage remotely, performed all Windows Updates, and I still cannot connect to it.

I am reading that Windows 10 should be backward-compatible with managing Hyper-V on 2012, but on connection, it appears a WMI namespace is missing that the Windows 10 tools are trying to connect to.

I am not trying to use alternate credentials (I read this will NOT work from 10 to 2012 R2). Any ideas why this is not working? Several Google searches have not told me anything so far. I realize Windows 10 has not officially been released yet, but a few of us are testing the waters for compatibility issues.

I would appreciate any help anybody can offer.

Unable to remove old checkpoints

I have an old checkpoint on a VM, and when trying to remove it, I receive the following error:

Cannot delete checkpoint: Catastrophic failure (0x8000FFFF).

It looks like the .avhdx file is missing for this as it was from quite a while back.  From my understanding of reading some similar stories and technet articles, I should be able to:

Create a new checkpoint, right click it then select Export.  This would create a new single VHDX file.  Would this eliminate this lingering old checkpoint even though the avhdx file no longer exists?

NIC interfaces question

Hi,

I recently touched Hyper-V after long non touching...

I have a question about IP addresses of Phisical NICs of the host.

Scenario:

2 active NICs on HOST.

One is with "Allow management OS to share this network Adapter" option checked.

Second with UNCHECKED "Allow management OS to share this network Adapter"

Second is used for VMs only.

The Static IP assigned for the first NIC (with checked Allow...) now "assigned" to vEtherne (Manage).

If I remember correctly the second NIC in my scenario doesn't require static address before assignment of vSwitch Role if

"Allow management OS to share this network Adapter" would be unchecked. Correct?

Missing updates now...

I deployed a HV 2012 R2 server about 6 months ago and it had nearly 200 updates to install (through the whole process). Today I used the same ISO and it installed maybe only 30 - 35 update.

Usually it installs around 30 updates first, then 1 large update followed by around 180 updates. I thought something was wrong, so I did a reinstall, update check, and only 30 or so were installed. Windows Update now says all updates are installed.

Anyone else with a similar issue?

Cannot join virtual machine to domain

$

When I try to join a new HyperV-based VM to the domain, I get the following error: "The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted." Physical computers can be joined to the domain - along with new VMs running on various VMware products (including Fusion).

Host: Windows Server 2008 R2; new instance; only role is Hyper-V

Guest: Windows Server 2008 R2; new instance; no roles

AD Server: Windows Server 2003; the Global Catalog is on a separate AD server.

Both of the new systems (i.e., the Host & Guest) can ping various servers throughout our domain (e.g., gateways, AD servers, etc.) and both have connected to the Microsoft servers for updates.

As a test, I entered the wrong password when I was prompted for a domain admin account (when joining the VM to the domain). That returned an error about the logon failure, suggesting that the domain does exist and can be contacted.

Reviewing the Event Log on the AD server, there's a difference between a successful join (using VMware-based VM) and the one that's failing (i.e., the HyperV-based VM). The last event they share in common is the "Service Ticket Request " (Event 673). The next successful step is "Special privileges assigned" (Event 576) but the HyperV VM is logging off instead (Event 538).

Over the last couple of days, I've tried all of the variations I can think of for the host network (including single/dual NICs), the virtual network, and the guest. I've run the NetMon for both the successful join and the failure. Comparing them, I don't see anything out of the ordinary. However, I spend most of my time developing code so I could have easily missed something.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Unable to Join Hyper V Virtual Machines to Domain

Hello Team,

I installed Hyper on Windows 2012 R2 server and loaded Virtual machines. All looks good. I want to join my VM's and the Guest machine to the Domain. I set the Internal Lan on the Guest OS to the Domain Controller running DNS. I am able to ping the server and I am able to join the Guest OS to the domain.

Now I want to join the Virtual machines to the same domain , but how to configure the NIC on the VM , so that it can ping the Domain Controller ? Virtual Switch Manager is configured with External network and also enabled "Allow management operating system to share this network adapter".

So I am little lost here to how to make the Virtual machines talk to the Domain Controller ? What would be the NIC setting on the Virtual machine ?

Any help would be appreciated!!

Error when creating VHDX via Hyper-V Manager remotely

$

Hey all!

So, I installed Hyper-V 2012 Core on a box, patched it, and then joined it to the domain. If I connect to the server via Hyper-V Manager from either a Windows 8 machine or Server 2012 machine and try to create a VM, it says "There was an unexpected error in configuring the hard disk on [Insert VM Name Here]." I feel like I've tried everything. I can not create the disk manually via the Manager on its own, before or after the VM being created. I can, however, create the disk via PowerShell with out a problem! Via PowerShell, I can create a dynamic VHDX disk every time without an issue.

I was curious if anyone has had this problem and/or knows a solution.

Thanks in advance!

Can't delete some old VHDX files

Howdy,

I had some old VMs that hadn't been used for a while so we wanted to go delete their files to save on space.  The VMs had previously been removed from the cluster and had been powered off for many months.

I went into Hyper-V Manager and deleted the VMs.  I then went to the storage location of the files and tried to delete them but it keeps telling me that the VHDX files are in use by something.

In the past, once I had deleted the actual VM, that freed everything up and I was able to delete the files.  Is there any way to tell why I can't remove these files?

Thanks.

Can I give permissions to Connect to only certain VMs?

We have some training VMs that I want to allow the trainers to Connect to but I don't want them to be able to connect to anything else.  Is there any way to selectively give permission only to certain VMs?

I'd also want to use some sort of Powershell script to launch the Connection to these VMs.  Is there a way to do that as well?

Thanks.

Hyper-V cluster with a JBOD HP 600 Modular Disk System. How to do it?

Hello.

I have two HP Proliant servers with a P812 controller in each.
I have a storage system HP 600 Modular Disk System with 35 SAS drives.

I connected each server to the storage system with SAS cables.

I can create different RAID 0 disks. When I try to add these disks to the cluster I can not see them. In Disk Manager of Windows Server 2012, I see them as disks with Raid BUS. I have understood that they must be SAS disks to add to the cluster.

What am I doing wrong?
Do I need a SAS switch?

Thank you.

High ping latency on Windows Server 2012 virtual machine on Hyper-v

$

Hello team,

I've been experienced an issue that is affected the performance of my environment. I have the following scenario:

1 - Server Dell R720

1 - SAN DELL MD3220i

1 - Switch Cisco 3750G

As the picture shows, I just have a switch, I'm pretty know that the recommended setting is with two switches, however I just have one of them. A personal of Cisco has configured this device with different vlan's so that means that the connection between the storage and the host works so nice.

The problem is the latency that the virtual machines are experiencing. I have Windows Server 2012 and I'm using Hyper-v to virtualize my virtual machines.

Does anyone know which parameters May I need to modify, enable or disable on Windows Server 2012 - Hyper V to work fine?

I would appreciate your help in this regard!

Thank you in advance!

Regards,

Paul Mendoza.
