How to segment SCCM 2012 home test lab from home computers, but allow it to access the internet?

$

I am trying to build an SCCM 2012 home test lab and want to know how you all have configured this.

I am not well versed in virtual technologies.

I am going to create a virtual server that SCCM 2012 will be installed on and I will have one or two DPs and 4-6 workstations.

In order for my virtual SCCM Site Server to connect to the Internet, I would assume I would create a virtual NIC that will connect to the physical host OS network and then have another NIC that will be used for the internal network.

This is about as far as my knowledge goes though and I am not even sure if this is a correct assumption.

I just want to make sure that the virtual Domain Controller that I will be setting up that will be running DHCP will not conflict with my Apple Base Station DHCP that serves my personal home devices.

Thank you

Assign a Keyboard to a VM.

Hello, I would like to make a Lan Party with my PC and Hyper V, hosting all together 2 VMs and my normal setup. The Problem is, that everybody would need 1 keyboard and 1 mouse.

So my question is wether it is possible or not to connect multiple keyboards to the PC and then assign the keyboards to VMs, so that at the end I and my friends can game simustaniously.

If anybody knows how to do it please reply.

Injecting a script into a Replica that has been failed over to.

Hi

Been tasked with researching if it possible to affect the state of services when failing over to a replicated VM.

Idea is that a running VM (and or site) has gone down and the DR site needs to bring up the replicated VM it is hosting.

We want do things like stop or restart services in the VM as the machine is coming back online.

I know that we can make changes to networking (IE: the IP and subnet, etc,,), but with the same process that bring a Replica back online can we push into the VM "commands"?

Thanks for reading.

H-V servers are both W2012 R2, with latest patches as well as the VM is using W2012 R2

Virtual machines crashing with Bugcheck CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION (109)

I have a 5 node Server 2012 R2 core Hyper-V cluster that hosts a mix of gen1 and gen2 vm's.  I have confirmed that the 60+ gen2 vm's with guest OS of 2012r2 and win8.1 are crashing with CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION (109).  The crash occurs randomly could be once a week or once a month and the guest OS generates a memory.dmp file.

The physical hardware are Dell M1000e chassis with m620 blades with fully updated bios and firmware for all components.  From my research I havnt found anything about this error pertaining to Hyper-V just avmware ESXI 5.0 issue.

I will be glad to provide any additional information to assist in tracking down the cause of these vm BSOD's.

*EDIT - I have now found that my Gen1 vm's with windows 8.1 are crashing as well so not just scoped to generation 2 machines.

CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION (109)
This bugcheck is generated when the kernel detects that critical kernel code or
data have been corrupted. There are generally three causes for a corruption:
1) A driver has inadvertently or deliberately modified critical kernel code
 or data. See http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/driver/kernel/64bitPatching.mspx
2) A developer attempted to set a normal kernel breakpoint using a kernel
debugger that was not attached when the system was booted. Normal breakpoints,
"bp", can only be set if the debugger is attached at boot time. Hardware
breakpoints, "ba", can be set at any time.
3) A hardware corruption occurred, e.g. failing RAM holding kernel code or data.

Dears,

i am having a a cluster with 6 nodes, all are Windows 2012 R2 Core. the cluster is managed using SCVMM 2012 R2.

i am trying to remove the cluster from VMM but i am getting error 2606 "Unable to perform the job because one or more of the selected objects are locked by another job."

i went through the MS article https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2795040 but finally it shows the all tasks that locks objects.

if i deleted these entries what would happen?, or what is the best practice for removing the cluster from VMM?

assistance is highly appreciated.

I am not sure how to get rid the of the SPN error in hyper-v events.  It appears whenever I reboot this server -windows 2008 R2 enterprise.  I have tried restarting VMMS service as well as confirming that permission of "self" user  has write permissions for SPN for this server object in AD.     Please suggest a solution because currently I just build two new VM on this box and would not like to remove this server from the domain and readd it.

2012 Host, 2012 R2 VM, Error: Network degraded (SR-IOV not operational)

$

Morning All

As per the thread title, I'm running a Server 2012 Host with a number of Server 2012 R2 VM's in it on a Dell 720xd server.

IOV is enabled and working on all the other VM's apart from one.

I only just noticed the error yesterday, in the networking Tab for the VM in Hyper-V Manager.

After a quick google I removed the NIC from the VM, restarted it, deleted the hidden NIC from Device Manager, restarted and added a new NIC again. Setup static IP again etc, but the problem is back.

In the VM, Event Viewer shows error:

Event ID: 2

The VM and host networking components failed to negotiate protocol version '5.0'

In the Host Event Viewer:

Event ID: 12585

'XXXXVFSW1001' Network Adapter (67dd68eb-406b-463d-b102-d88b6f625ad5--7e9878f0-628a-4a7c-98ce-0d974be2136d) failed to allocate a virtual function: The device does not recognize the command. (0x80070016): IOV networking might be incompatible with other configured networking features. (Virtual Machine ID 67DD68EB-406B-463D-B102-D88B6F625AD5)

I can see this error going back months, so its obviously been there a while.

I cannot think of anything special about this VM, I created a few at the same time and the others are all working ok. This is one of 3 VM's acting as a fileserver to users.

For the moment I have switched off IOV for this VM in its settings, however I would like to get it working and understand why just this one is failing.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or ideas. :)

KB2920189 fails to install on generation 2 vm's

It looks like there is a problem with the KB2920189 update.

When trying to install it via Windows Update on some servers, they all fails the installation of this update - they are all running 2012 R2 inside generation 2 Hyper-V machines.

Has this update been tested with the UEFI implementation inside Hyper-V?

Virtual Sound Card Not Working on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 x64 virtual machine

$

Hi Support Team,

I have Virtual Audio Cable successfully installed on my Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 x64 virtual machine. It seem like driver works (new audio device in Device Manager group and VAC control panel works perfectly), but unfortunately if I go to Control Panel -> Hardware -> Sound there is no audio devices (neither playback or recording). And so my software doesn't see any audio devices.

It is virtual machine with no physical sound card. I connect to it using Remote Desktop.

Is this known issue? Is it possible to get VAC working on such machine?

If you have any suggestion for getting VAC , please update me asap.

Thanks,

- Pramod

Connecting Hyper-V to existing EMC/Unisphere Network SAN : Need help getting server to talk to seperate VLANs

$

I'm working on converting current VMware environment over to Hyper-V, and i'm running into a couple of issues.  We have 3 dell servers, 2 that are still on vmware and 1 that's on Hyper-V.  The two VMware hosts are connected/talking to the EMC/Unisphere SAN just fine.  The Hyper-V Host is not.  Each server has 6 physical NICs.  Here's our environment (i'm including a picture of this below for clarification that was given when the vendor implemented this back in 2012):

Host 1:  VMWare1VLAN 1     IP   (LAN)        10.80.17.101 (Nic 0 and 4)
VLAN 500 IPs (iSCSI to EMC)     10.80.1.101   (Nic 1)
                                                                                10.80.1.121   (Nic 5)
VLAN 501 IPs (VMotion)             10.80.2.101   (Nic 2 and 3)

Host 2:  HyperVVLAN 1     IP   (LAN)         10.80.17.101 (Nic 0 and 4)

Host 3:  VMWare3VLAN 1     IP   (LAN)         10.80.17.103 (Nic 0 and 4)
VLAN 500 IPs (iSCSI to EMC)     10.80.1.103   (Nic 1)
                                                                                10.80.1.123   (Nic 5)
VLAN 501 IPs (VMotion)             10.80.2.103   (Nic 2 and 3)

Here's a diagram:

My main concern, I do not know how to get the new Hyper-V host to talk to the iSCSI/EMC Vlan.  The management for the EMC is on the LAN, but the vendors years ago set this up on these 500/501 VLANS and this just 100% goes over my head.

My questions:
1) How do I talk/get my server to talk to the 500 vlan so I can connect my HyperV server to EMC SAN Storage to use for
    building VMs

2) Is the 501 VMotion VLANs really going to be needed with HyperV.  I'm thinking of just putting those additional 2 NICs in             VLAN1 in the existing 10.80.17.102 team.

3) Is having the SAN on a seperate VLAN required, going forward/best practice?  The reason I ask is we're going to be replacing our core switches and we will be completely redoing the network

Any input on this is greatly appreciated. I hope I'm making sense, i'm not really all that knowledgeable on VLANs / Networking lingo.

Thanks!

Host 1:  VMWare1VLAN 1     IP   (LAN)         10.80.17.101 (Nic 0 and 4)
VLAN 500 IPs (iSCSI to EMC)     10.80.1.101   (Nic 1)

Server 2012 Hyper-v edition Windows 8 guest loses network randomly

$

We used a PC to build a standby server in case main one crashes. It has a realtek-based NIC. So I loaded the free Server 2012 Hyper-v Edition and created a VM to which I can attach the vhdx for the main vm running Server 2008 should the main host (it runs full Server 2012) crash. Host and Server 2008 guest fun perfectly.

As I am not a powershell wiz and none of the office PCs have windows 8 I decided to get a copy of Windows 8.1 pro and load it into another vm on the same standby host and run RSAT that way (no active directory).

Everything works except the Windows 8 guest every 2-3 minutes would lose network for a few seconds. Still can get management tasks done, just extremely annoying.

If I were to do ping <windows8 vm ip> -t I can see how it gets replies, then 2-3 packets get timed out, then replies resume till the next time. Like I said I can stay connected to the host or to the Server 2008 vm all day, so it seems to me the NIC itself is fine.

Windows 8 guest has all updates and runs the latest integration tools. I tried theHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCPIP\Parameters\DisableTaskOffload registry entry and it helped some, but not completely. Would appreciate any advice on this.

Thank you

Creating a VHD Using Latest Hyper-V (Win 10) for Use in Older Version of Hyper-V (Server 2008)

Hello,

I am out of space on a fixed VHD file on Hyper-V running under Server 2008.

My issue is I need to find a way to enlarge this VHD's disk capacity.

I am wondering if I can use the "Copy the contents of the specified virtual hard disk" feature available in the latest version of Hyper-V to copy the contents of this fixed VHD file (in this case Hyper-V running on Windows 10 ) and then use the newly created higher capacity VHD file on my Hyper-V Server 2008 installation.

Will this work or are there drawbacks to doing it this way?

Thanks!

Hyper-V Replication & Large Machine Observations

Hi All,

I have Oracle Unbreakable Linux 6.5 which runs Oracle ERP application & Database it has three VHDs 80 GB , 600 GB and 120 GB on daily basis it creates RMAN backup approx 32 GB which stores on 120 GB VHD.This VM has more READ operations and around 1 MB / 1 Mins Write Operation other than Backup.

I have enable Hyper-V Replication on this machine with 60 Sec Cycle Exclude 120 GB VHD where RMAN data places but i have found that replication is not going on normal.

I can see that hyper-V replication fully utilizing 4 MB to 5 MB.

My Question :

1.If i excluded 120 GB VHD and i have very little write operations on replicating drives so why replication is not normal

2.Is read operations have impact on replication

Hyper-V and setup switch failed Error applying new virtual network changes

Hi,

I read the Hyper-V and HP ML310 GS thread but that did not solve the problem I still experience:

My hardware is a PRIMERGY TX120 from FSC and it has a Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet NIC (b57nd60a.sys) with the driver version 10.10.0.1 from january 8 2006. I am running Windows Server 2003 R2 in the quest machine and when I go to the virtual network manager and try to add a new external virtual network and choose my NIC he gives the error message:

Error applying new virtual network changes  setup switch failed

I am now using the RC version of Hyper-V but the problem remains. Unclicking Microsoft Virtual Network Switch Protocol in the Broadcom NIC properties does not help. I also experience the same problem in my other Virtual Machines being Windows Vista and Windows XP.

When trying to add a legacy adaptor I get another error message "Configuration Error" in the VMs explaining:

The network adapter is configured to a switch port which no longer exists. In order for this virtual machine to boot you will need to reconfigure this virtual network adapter.

When looking on my host machine in Device Manager I see 35 Microsoft Virtual Switch Network adapters beside of-course my Broadcom. Is that normal behaviour??

What to do next?

Any help is highly appreciated!

Thanks,

Frank

Hi,

here I,m facing auto shutdown of my VM in hyper V,with out information its happening for every 40 mints, can any one suggest the solution.

Configure VM to start without any users logged in after boot?

$

Environment:

Server 2012 R2 Datacenter

Hyper-V hosting one VM that is a pfSense firewall/router/gateway "appliance"

Question:

How do I configure this VM (or Hyper-V in general, since this is the only VM) to run ASAP following a host machine reboot without anyone logging in to Windows?

Currently the VM does not appear to run until the physical machine has a user logged in.  I have the VM setting enabled to start immediately with 0 sec delay, but this still seems to be contingent on an initial user login to the server.
