How to get notified when changes happen on Hyper-V host or VMs

$

Is there a way to get notified on Hyper-V host or VM changes? Our intention is to notify the system-administrators on any changes.

1. How to get notified when new VM is created (or deleted) on Hyper-V.
2. How to get notified when any memory/CPU/disk is added (or deleted) on any VM(s).

In general:
- Get notified when any changes happens to Hyper-V host.
- Get notified when any changes happens on any VMs.

Our target servers are Windows Server(2008, 2008 R2, 2012, and 2012 R2)

We tried to get the notification using "Event Viewer" on different Windows servers (2008, 2008 R2, 2012, and 2012 R2)

We were able to get event-logs only on one of our 2012 R2 server as described below on creation/deletion of VMs (on another 2012 R2 server, we did not got any such event, Is there any setting required on host computer to get Hyper-V event-logs in "Event Viewer"?)

Hello Everyone,

Can anyone let me know how can i monitor the Hyper-v replication process health using vbs or wmi query to retrieve the result as numbers (1=ok , 2= warning , 3=critical )

already i have a power shell script to get the results in html file but its not possible to get the result as values.

i need the numbers to allow the monitoring system understand the result and compare it .

i tried to look for any available script that may help in my case but i couldn't find any

Thanks

Recently we have moved few virtual machines to hyper-v core 2012 R2 (Free version) Now few virtual machines are showing below in hyper-v management console.

Do i need to update integration services as this message showing on virtual machines who are hosting mail server and database server. so after upgrading to latest integration services will it impact on VM's. Also"Guest Services" option is unchecked. Do need to enable this as well.

Windows backup created a checkpoint but I can't remove or revert.

I am using Windows Server backup to capture my hyper-v guests and noticed on the 24th that the backup created a Snapshot (checkpoint).  However normally the word "NOW" is displayed below the checkpoint except it is not.  It just shows: SERVERNAME - backup - (12/24/2014 - 8:04:10 PM) and that's it.  No option to remove it, or revert.

The other strange thing that happened on this date was the backup began keeping copies.  before it was only keeping the latest backup.  That however has stopped as well and I am only getting the latest copy again.  What's up with this?

My Virtual Upgraded Clone and the physical machine that was originally cloned on same domain and what to expect?

I have recently upgraded a Windows XP machine to Windows Vista and ultimately to Windows 7 32-bit

I then created an entirely new physical Windows 7 Machine

I need to perform a Windows backup restore from virtualized copy of Windows 7 to the new machine

Question??? Do I have to turn off the original Windows XP PC? I see that the virtualized upgrade has the same name as the physical XP and only one entry in Active Directory reference the original Windows XP not the upgraded virtual clone???

Hello Community

On one WS2012 R2 there is a Domain Controller with Active Directory, DNS and Hyper-V installed.

On the other WS2012 R2 there is a member server with other software installed on it.

The question is how can I install Hyper-V on the WS2012 R2 server when the error message says:

Hyper-V cannot be installed because virtualization support is not enabled in the BIOS

    Thank you

Connecting to Hyper-V Server and allowing Remote Access to ANONYMOUS LOGON

I installed standalone Hyper-V server 2012 R2 on a machine and was trying to connect to it from my Windows 8.1 client, but even after TrustedHosts entry the Hyper-V Manager on the client could not connect to Hyper-V server -

"Access denied. Unable to establish communication between HYPER-V_SERVER_NAME and WIN8.1_CLIENT_NAME"

To finally connect to Hyper-V server I had to Allow Remote Access for ANONYMOUS LOGON by running "dcomcnfg" and then -> Component Service -> Computers -> My Computer -> Properties -> Com Security Tab -> Access Permission -> Edit Limits -> ANONYMOUS LOGON -> Remote Access -> Allow

But now I want to know why I had to do this. Can anyone explain what was going on behind the scene that required this?

Cannot connect to a virtual machine ...

Hi All,

I have changed the location of a physical server to an off-site location. The OS is Windows Server 2008 x64

The IP of that physical server was changed from 192.168.1.26 to 192.168.2.100. Gateway changed from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1

There was a Hyper-V VM installed with IP 192.168.1.106. Now, because the physical machine is on 192.168.2.1 and the VM is on Gateway 192.168.1.1 I cannot connect to the VM.

Is there a chance to chande the IP of the VM from 192.168.1.106 to 192.168.2.106 without connecting to it?

Regards,

Aleksandar

I am experiencing an issue when I removed the Wireless device and then re-installed it on Hyper-V Windows 8.

The error states : "Failed while modifying virtual Ethernet Switch connection settings" followed by "Ethernet port {f...} bind failed unspecified error (0x80004005)"

Is anyone else experiencing this kind of issue?

Hyper-V Host (Win 8) to XP Virtual Machine File Transfer

$

Hello guys, first post here, and I've got a question about transferring files from the host computer to an xp hyper v virtual machine. I've researched and tried many methods but some are too complicated or in the case of the floppy it doesn't have enough space. I need to transfer a 30mb 16-bit application from my host, Windows 8, to a windows XP virtual machine where I think I can run it. I seem to be "missing some network hardware" so I can't exactly access the internet, but is there still a way to transfer an app within a host-to-vm network? I think I set up an external network, but don't really know how to use it.

Thanks, and happy new year

How to create a template in Hyper-V Core 2012 R2?

I've just migrated from VMware ESXi 5.5 to Hyper-V core 2012 R2. In VMware I could create a VM, configure it, and then save it as a template and then deploy from template. Can I do that in Hyper-V? I couldn't see how to do that in the Hyper-V manager. I should add that I'm using Hyper-V in a home lab.

Hello,

Recently I bought Lenovo G50 laptop with Windows  8 already installed. Now I am not able to get Hyper-V settings in "Turn Windows Features on or off".

I have enabled Virtualization in BIOS Setup and it is getting reflected when I run systeminfo.exe

Does any one know how to get Hyper-V option in "Turn Windows Features on or off"?

Hyper-V won't install on x64 Windows 8.1 Pro

I can't seem to get Hyper-V installed.

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro 64

Steps to reproduce:

1. Add/Remove Features

2. Add Hyper-V, and all subsets

3. Click OK.

4. Click Restart when prompted.

5. Computer will reboot and then work on configuring features.  At 91% the computer will stop and display the error message "Unable to add feature..." and then roll back entirely.

Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause and fix?

Thanks,

Daniel

Losing Access to Cluster Shared Volumes: Cluster Shared Volume 'Volume1' ('CSV Disk1') has entered a paused state because of '(c0000435)'

Hi,

Just built a Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V failover cluster connected to Equallogic 4110 storage arrays with latest firmware and HIT kits.
When creating a clone or vm from a template we see that the cluster loses access to the storage csv volume that is hosted on the equallogic storage with the following errors:

Cluster Shared Volume 'Volume1' ('CSV Disk1') has entered a paused state because of '(c0000435)'. All I/O will temporarily be queued until a path to the volume is reestablished.

Can anyone shed any light onto this issue?

Dynamic Memory is not working all the time

$
0

We are in the process off moving our 2008R2 VM's from the 2008R2 HyperV servers to new Server 2012R2 Hosts.

We shut down the VM's copy the files and VHD's to the new CSV's en import the VM in the Hyperv Manager. Then we make them high available in the Failover Cluster Manager (Configure role - Virtual machine). We mount the integration tools and update the VM to version 6.3.9600.16384

For a specific type of VM (mostly RDS Host servers) we always had Dynamic Memory configured (when they were hosted on de 2008R2 platform), so we are using the same settings on the 2012r2 platform. The memory settings were;

Startup memory: 1024 MB

Minimum memory: 1024 MB

Maximum memory: 12288 MB

These VM's reboot every morning, this is done for specific reasons. But now once in a while (once per week/2 weeks) we notice that the VM's are not using more memory then 1024 MB while the demand is much higher. Rebooting the server helps most of the times, live migrating to another host also helps. In the VM we see that memory usage in the taskmanager is 99-100%, and after the move it immediately starts using more than the minimum configured amount.

Until the failover the memory usage was 1024 MB and it did not get any higher.

This happened several times. Last week we changed the Memory configuration to:

Startup memory : 2048 MB

Minimum memory: 2048 MB

Maximum memory: 12288 MB

But this morning we had a call about the performance of one of the VM's, We saw that it was only using 2 GB memory while the demand was much higher. After live migrating it to another host it started using more memory immediately.

The 2012R2 hosts are not overcommited, there is a lot of memory still available for the VM's. Those VM's never had this problem on the 2008R2 Hyperv platform.

Any idea why this happens?

Peter Camps
