Hello,

I have a problem.

I have two Hyper-V servers.

I configured replication.

1. HyperV01 - vm02 replication to HyperV02. Finfish OK!

2. Failover to Hyperv02. Finsih OK!

3. Start reverse replication to HyperV01. Finish OK!

4. Failover to Hyperv01. Finish OK!

5. start reverse replicatikon to HyperV02. Failed!

Event id: 32390

Hyper-V could not replicate changes for virtual machine 'vm02' (Virtual machine ID FDDF08D9-2BD7-4975-935E-1A6DBCAF8345). Replica virtual machine was found to be failed over on the Replica server.

What is the problem?

Thanks:

Moving domain controller vm between Hyper-V 2012 R2 hosts

Hello,

I have one stand alone Hyper-V host - hvserver01 (Hyper-V Server 2012 R2) and 3 VM's running on it. One Virtual machine is our company's additional Domain controller.
I'm planning to install an additional hyper-v host - hvserver02 (Hyper-V Server 2012 R2) as well.

I have the following task to perform: I need to move domain controller virtual machine from hvserver01 to hvserver02.

So, for this operation which tool do i need - move, export/import or something else... ? or it will be necessary to install a new DC and then demote the old one.. ?

Is there a some special requirements when moving DC from one virtual host to another.. ?

And also, - MS Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 is installed on both Hyper-V hosts.

Do you have some advices ?

Thanks in advance,

Guest Cluster Using a Shared Virtual Hard Disk and Replica

Hi all,

I've read that is suppoted to deploy a Guest Cluster Using a Shared Virtual Hard Disk:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn265980.aspx

but I've not understood some things:

1) is live migration supported for VM forming the cluster?

2) is storage live migration supported?

3) may the VM run on the same host or in different host?

4) Can I use Replica feature to replica the VM forming a cluster in a DR site?

Configure Networking in Hyper V

Hi,

I have a single R710 with hyper-v 2012 installed on it.

I am managing hyper v 2012 from a windows 8 host.

I have installed server 2012 VM.

I have 2 networks connected to the physical R710.

In virtual switch manager I have configured 2 switches. One of these switches is shared with the management OS hyper v.

Second switch just points to the second physical NIC.

My problem is this:

When i connect the VM to the first switch it works fine.

When i connect the VM to the second V switch (second physical NIC). The VM gets a DHCP IP address and is able to ping everything behind the FW. It just doesn't ping outside. i.e. google.com or 8.8.8.8

There are no firewall rules blocking traffic.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

VM communication fail on HP broadcom network adapter

Hi All,

I have HP DL380 servers with Broadcom network adapters. I have successfully created the team and selectDynamic as the load balancing mode. This team has selected for the virtual switch. My VMs couldn't communicate to each other. sometimes it communicates with the physical host and sometimes not.

For the troubleshooting purpose i have selected a single adapter as the stand by mode. After that sometimes VM can communicate among each other and sometimes not.

I have found the below article for the same issue.

http://www.aidanfinn.com/?p=16876

i would like to know is there any solution for the issue. Also would like to know is this a bug from Microsoft or the Broadcom?

Storage Pool Issues

Hello!!

I have some LUNs that was automatically added to a Primordial Storage Pool. I can't remove those disks and not even remove the LUNs.

I need those LUNs to use as pass-through disks to some highly available Virtual Machines. I need this scenario because I need performance. I'll virtualize a database server.

Using Set-PhysicalDisk i got this error:
PS C:\Windows\system32> Set-PhysicalDisk -FriendlyName 'PhysicalDisk18' -Usage Retired
Set-PhysicalDisk : Not Supported
No linha:1 caractere:1
+ Set-PhysicalDisk -FriendlyName 'PhysicalDisk18' -Usage Retired
+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    + CategoryInfo          : InvalidOperation: (StorageWMI:ROOT/Microsoft/..._StorageCmdlets) [Set-PhysicalDisk], CimException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : StorageWMI 1,Set-PhysicalDisk
I'm kinda desperate, my schedule is tight 'cause I lost some days fighting with an Informix bug. I lost 2 VMs because I needed to add 2 more LUNs to the cluster and a lot of disks was suddenly added to the Storage Pool, dening acces to those disks.

Converting disk from fixed to dynamic

$

Hello everyone,

I want to convert a disk from fixed to dynamic for backup purposes.
It is currently to big to backup to a destination source.
I am using server 2012 r2 with hyperv( please be advised that I used hyper core and not a gui )

I read a quite a lot about it and here is how I am planning to do it.
1- Stop VM
2- Zero out ( 3th party tool ) to make the disk smaller ( which tool should I use? any suggestions )
3- Convert the disk to dynamic
4- Point the VM to the new dynamic disk ( or will this be done automatically?)
5- start the VM

My most important question is:
If my free space on my physical hard disk is 1 TB.
The current fixed VHDX is 2 TB ( actually 1.5TB is used instead of 2 )
Can I then just convert it to a dynamic disk or will this not work as I have to less diskspace?

2nd question:
will the converted disk automatically be selected in the VM that uses it or do I need to point to it manually?

3th question:
I read about a 3th party tool that zeros out empty space that you can use to shrink a vhd while converting it as only zero bits are compacted/removed when compacting the disk. If you delete data from the vm it just removes the pointers to the data but the data is still on the disk and not all zeros so it won't shrink. Is this correct and if so which tool do you advise?

Many thanks in advance.

When does Microsoft plan to add support for RemoteFX to Gen2 VMs? Will there be a service pack at some point for Windows Server 2012 R2?

Server 2012 with Hyper-V Manager - Virtual machine images are displaying unauthenticated local area connections

$

I've got 25 Hyper-V machines running on a Remote Desktop Services server.  The main image was sysprep'd and all subsequent images were created off that (from within Remote Desktop Services).  All images came through as expected, booted up, logged in and half of them are displaying unauthenticated to the LAN.

I have a 4 port NIC setup within Hyper-V to perform Teaming.

Hyper-V Setup in Server Manager

 • Teaming Mode: Switch Independent
 • Load Balancing Mode: Hyper-V Port
 • Standby Adapter: None

It's also set to a specific VLAN of 30.

Hyper-V Virtual Switch Manager:

Connection Type

 • External Network / Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Driver #2 (there's an seperate card doing a dfferent function)
 • Allow Manager operating system to share this network adapter IS Check Marked

VLAN ID

 • Enable virtual LAN identification for management OS IS CHECKMARKED
 • VLAN ID : 30

I have no problems at all talking to any network device, pings and tracerts work properly.  I'm using this set of Hyper-V machines as destinations for Zero Client machines; meaning they access these machines through Remote Desktops.  That part works great.

My issue is accessing a specific application as it seems to time out quite frequently.  The only thing I can point to is the potential LAN displaying Unauthenticated.  Any advice for this issue?

Virtual Network Question and vCPU question

$

I am configuring a Hyper-V environment that will eventually have two hosts in a cluster. Right now there are 6 VMs on a single host until I rebuild the old host with Windows 2012 R2 and build the cluster.

Either way, what I am confused about is, If the VMs have their own dedicated NIC, do I need to create and assign an additional Internal/Private Network for these machines to communicate between each other to cut down on network traffic or for some other unknown reason?

Also, the vCPU documentation is very confusing. Both hosts have 2 Xeon processors and 24 cores show up in task manager. Does that equate to 24 vCPUs on each host? I have read I should NOT assign more than one vCPU to a VM unless I absolutely have to (One source said the the machines won't know what to do with the second one)... This seems kind of like a waste. I have two DCs running Windows 2012 R2, is 1vCPU and 4Gig of RAM enough for these? They seem like they are running OK...

Thanks!

Tony

Using NIC Teaming and a virtual switch for Windows Server 2012 host networking!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mOuoIWzmdE

Hi thanks for reading. Now I may well have my terminology incorrect here so I will try to explain  as best I can and apologies from the start.

It’s a bit of both Hyper-v and Server 2012R2.

I am setting up a lab with Server 2012 R2. I have several physical network cards that I have teamed called “HostSwitchTeam” from those I have made several Virtual Network Adaptors such as below examples.

New-VMSwitch "MgmtSwitch" -MinimumBandwidthMode weight -NetAdaptername "HostSwitchTeam" -AllowManagement $false

Add-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "Vswitch" -SwitchName "MgmtSwitch"

Add-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "Cluster" -SwitchName "MgmtSwitch"

When I install Hyper-V and it comes to adding a virtual switch during installation it only shows the individual physical network cards and the HostSwitchTeam for selection.  When installed it shows the Microsoft Network Multiplexor Driver as the only option. Is this correct or how does one use the Vswitch made above and incorporate into the Hyper-V so a weight can be put against it.

Still trying to get my head around Vswitches,VMNetworkadapters etc so somewhat confused as to the way forward at this time so I may have missed the plot altogether!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Copying Hyper-V VHD file(s) to bitlocked USB drive

$

Hi everyone,

I've got a Server running Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1with a single VM running Windows 2000 Server and software from the 2000-era

I need to copy the VHD files off the existing hardware and secure/encrypt them on an external USB drive

What is the best way to achieve this?

EG

Bitlock the USB drive then copy the VHD files to this drive which will then be encrypted?

Or is this unsafe if the VHD files can simply be copied off the USB drive and the files will be decrypted?

Thanks

Is there a way to have vm's assigned randomly on user login?  I have a pool of 5 vm's that I would like to offer to my users without assigning specific machines.  I just want the user to connect and get the next one that is available.  Is this easily accomplished?

Thanks

Can't Import VM to New Host

I replaced my Hyper-V host. I've been able to import all by one of my VM's back into the new host. This one in particular I see this in the event viewer when I try to import it. It seems to point to a network issue but all the VM's network were configured the same. As far as the machine goes the only difference is that this is a Linux machine and all the others were windows.

Need to move existing VM to 3 node cluster

$

Hello all, I thought I already posted this so please forgive any duplicates.  I have a 3 node 2012 R2 DC cluster, and I have another stand alone Hyper-V server that houses a VM that has access to 2 subnets.  The subnets are 192.x and 10.x, and the host is physically connected to both networks, so the VM just has two NICs for each network.

My question, can I somehow add a virtual switch to my existing cluster and create another network that will allow all of my cluster nodes AND VMs communicate to that VM that I migrate over?

I do not have any physical connections open on any of the clustered machines.  I wasn't sure if I could just add an internal switch from HV manager, from one of the nodes and just have it show up as a clustered resource...

Thank you in advance

Hyper-V Server no longer shows after system crash

$

So I currently have a server set up running 2 Hyper-V VM's. One is a Windows DNS server that has been running for about a week, and the other a Ubuntu Server that I created about 2 hours ago and was working on it (after getting the OS and everything set up) until my host server blue screened and restarted.

Now the Hyper-V manager only lists the Windows DNS server and not the Ubuntu server, however the Ubuntu server is running (I can ping it and I can SSH into it), but I cannot seem to get Hyper-V manager to recognize it.

I've tried deleting the VM GUID from C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Hyper-V\Virtual Machines Cache, and there is no data in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Hyper-V\Virtual Machines.

I've restarted the Hyper-V management service countless times and have restarted the Host PC a few times with no luck.

I am currently running Windows 10 TP (although I don't believe Hyper-V has changed much at this point in W10)

Any suggestions?

Thanks,  Nolan

Exchange VM lost network connectivity from different subnet

Hi all,

Few times i have faced anniong issue. All times it was issue with Exchange 2010 VM's (Different Exchange servers from different domains). HyperV 2008 R2 and 2012 R2.

Server lost network connectivity from all other subnets. But in local subnet everithing is Ok. Most of communications is in local subnet but send/receive connectors stops working. After VM reboot everything becomes fine.

MAybe this is not HyperV issue but I saw those problems only vith virtualized Exchanges.

Maybe someone have seen similar issues and can provide solution.
