All,
I'm planning to replace a legacy server with Server 2012 R2 essentials. I'm wondering if I would go for Hyper-V.
Reason for Hyper-v would be for easy recovery. I'm familiar with VMware & Veeam but I wonder if Microsoft Hyper-V has build-in snapshot backup capabilities. If so, it would save me the cost of Veeam Essentials...
As I'm not familiar with Microsoft Hyper-V, could you briefly explain what the best approach is for backups? I find the licensing model of Microsoft interesting, saves the VMware license if you take a server... As such, a move to Microsoft could be an option
for other VM's I'm running!
So bottom line, is Microsoft Hyper-v capable of taking snapshot backups of guest machines to disk (NAS) or USB? I would expect this backup to run from the parent, not from the guest.
Thanks
