The problem is, that I get the following error in the  Hyper-V encountered an error trying to access an object on computer 'name' because the object was not found. The object might have been deleted. or you might not have permission to perform the task. Verify that the Virtual Machine Management service on the computer is running. If the service is running, try to perform the task again by using Run as Administrator.

This keepon happening whenever the cluster directory root name changed to Cluster Storage or ClusterStorage.000<o:p></o:p>

Other nodes might not have the same cluster storage with the automatic numeric

General Access Denied Error - Hyper-V

$

Hi

We have a Hyper-V 2012 3 node cluster, the VMs are stored on a Server 2012 based 2 node Scale Out File Server.

We created this setup from new in October 2013 and it has generally worked OK since but we do get the occasional "General Access Denied Error (0x80070005)" when we try to live migrate a virtual machine.  The instructions in the below TechNet article do not work for us - the result indicates success but when we try the Live Migration again we get the same error message.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2249906/en-gb

I have in the past resolved this by removing the virtual machine from Failover Cluster Manager, migrating it via Hyper-V Manager, logging on to the destination Hyper-V host and re-importing it to Failover Cluster Manager from there.

However last night I was doing some system maintenance and went to drain a host via Failover Cluster Manager.  The host had around 20 VMs on it and only two VMs successfully migrated - the other VMs did not migrate and now I cannot move them from that host for love nor money!

The Event Log for FCM indicates they have the "General Access Denied" error.

I have tried the following:

  • Use instructions in above mentioned TechNet article (shows success, but same error happens when I try to Live Migrate)
  • Tried the method I have mentioned above (removing from FCM etc.).  Get the Access Denied message
  • Checking the folder permissions on the "Virtual Machines" folder where XMLs are stored.  Permissions appear OK for all Hyper-V hosts (also checked the VMs VHD permissions)
  • Trying the Live Migration directly on Hyper-V host rather than via a Constrained Delegation scenario
  • Checking Constrained Delegation in AD (seems fine as per when I set it up in October)
  • Checking permissions on the Scale Out File Server

With regards to the Scale Out File Server I have noticed in the past some odd permissions things going on.  I have seen the permissions for the Hyper-V hosts going from (for example) "Full Access" on "This Folder, Subfolders & Files" to random things like " Read/Modify" on "This Folder Only".  Manually changing the permissions back to Full Control resolves the issue, but does not stop it recurring again.

So I'm a bit confused really!  It looks like a mixed basket of permissions issues going on!  Some of our most critical machines are on that host at the moment and they cannot be moved.  Any suggestions appreciated.

Many thanks

How to resolve Event 14260, Hyper-V-VMMS

Anyone have any idea what causes this message and how I can go about resolving it? I have two hyper-v servers one gets literally thousands of these warnings every day from pretty much all users while the other gets absolutely none so I assume it is a configuration issue but I have no idea what configuration it could be.

slow throughput on routing between two subnets at Hyper-V Host.

$

0

The transfer between two hyper-v VM´s is very slow, when enabling the routing on hyper-v server.

(I enabled the routing by reg. key "IPEnableRouter" on Hyper-V Host, then restarted. Not using role RRAS and routing)

Hyper V has a virtual adapter for each VM-Net, and each a physical for external network.

VM 1 Subnet : 1.1.1.0
VM 1 Host Adapter : 1.1.1.1
VM 1 Guest Adapter : 1.1.1.2

VM 2 Subnet : 1.1.2.0
VM 2 Host Adapter : 1.1.2.1
VM 2 Guest Adapter : 1.1.2.2

At each side of the pyhiscal NIC´s are PCs.
The PC´s from subnet 1 must be able to reach the VM Guest at subnet 2.

Each PC has a static Route for the other Subnet via the pyhsical NIC of the Hyper-V Host.

From subnet 1 to subnet 2 via the PC´s the RX is excellent , but the TX is as slow 30Kbit/s

Transfer between guests an host is excellent. Between guest 1 and guest 2 RX an TX ist about 30Kbit/s

Transfer from PC subnet 1 to Hyper V guest 1 isexcellent.
Transfer from PC subnet 2 to Hyper V guest 2 is
excellent, so the network is o.K.

Why is the IP Forwarding such slow?

Hyper V Host : MS Server 2012
Guests : 2008 R2
PC: Windows 7

Thanks Tobias

Hello,

Sorry for my english, I'm french and I hope my message will be easy to understand.

I have a probleme with hvremote and hyperV server : I want to add remote management access to users but I won't give them admin access. I've try the command hvremote /add:domain\user /explicit, the command is a success but I can't manage my server with my user... if I use the command hvremote /add:domain\user, it work (but with admin rights)
In fact : I want to have one or two admin, and other users in groups with differents authorisations : a groupe which can creat VM, launch VM..., a group wich can't creat VM but can launch thems...

Do you know how can I do to do that ?

Thank you very much and sorry again for my english lvl.

P2V

Dear all,

I have completed a P2V using Disk2VHD of a W3K SP2 server. The server had 4 disks the first being the C: with the OS, when I performed the P2V I did this for all of them individually so that I would end up with 4 VHD files.

However now when I boot the VM the OS is fine but in My Computer I can see the other disks and when I click on them I get the following error: " D:\is not accessible. The parameter is incorrect" When I check in disk management I see the disks but they show as Foreign and when I try to import one nothing happens. Also in disk management under first disk I can see 5 partitions which were not on the physical server also they are not accessible accept the C: disk partition.

Further more I have used the Edit disk feature in hyper-v to rebuild a new VHD file. Any advise.

Also should I have performed the P2V on all disk ib Disk2VHD?

How best to add additional NICs for additional virtual switches on a working hyper-v cluster (HA)?

So we have a working hyper-v cluster but want to add additional NICs to the nodes to create additional virtual switches.

Do we need to destroy the cluster via cluster manager and recreate when we have additional nodes in place or is there are less instrusive method to add additional NICs for virtual switches?

Please provide recommended steps on how best to do this?

Thanks.

How Much RAM for Hyper-V Hosting

$

Hi,

I am in the process of testing the performance of my current live website that is on a shared hosting environment (Discount asp) with another Hyper-V host (netcetera).

My website uses SQL Server 2008 and IIS7.5.

The Hyper-V server has 1gb of ram.

When I tested the current live and the Hyper-V website there was no sizeable difference in the performance.

Which is a bit disappointing.

The only thing I have added to the server is added Microsoft Security Essentials to the Hyper-V server.

Both websites have the same web config settings.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I should do to get better performance?

Thanks,

Will

PS I guess on of the suggestions is another 1gb of memory

Copy/Paste to a VM machine causes the file size of the VM to increase drastically

$

Hi,

I set up a Hyper-V Windows Server 2008 VM on my PC and I connect to it through Remote Desktop. Whenever I try to copy/paste a folder into the VM through RDP, the size of my VM on my PC increases drastically. I tried moving a 20 MB folder this way and the size of the VM on my C:\ drive increased by 10 GB!!!

Does anyone know why this causes my disk space to increase so drastically?

Is there a way to revert the disk space to the previous size? I tried the Compact feature and that did not seem to make any difference.

When I look at the hard drive of my VM, it says it is only using about 40 GB but it takes up about 58 GB on my hard drive. If anyone has any ideas on how to shrink this space I would be interested. I also tried

Resize-VHD –Path c:\BaseVHDX.vhdx –ToMinimumSize

but I got an error saying it was not allowed.

Thanks!

I can't Add Roles and Features to my Hyper-v 2012 R2 Server

I have a bare metal install of Hyper-v server 2012 R2. I added it to my domain and can access it through server manager. I can access everything remotely in that computer too, like remote connection, powershell, and disk management. However when I click"Add Roles and Features" I get this message:

"Either there are no servers in the server manager server pool, or there are no servers that support remote installation or removal of roles. To add supported servers, use the add server command on the Manage menu of the Server Manager console."

I did add the server though and I can access every other part of it, so that cannot be the problem. And Hyper-V server was built by microsoft and came with Windows Server 2012 cd, so I assume it is supported. What could the problem be?

How best to add new NICS for the creation of virtual switches on a hyper-v cluster (HA) Windows 2008 R2?

We have a working hyper-v cluster to which we need to add additional NICS to create additional virtual switches.

Do we need to destroy and recreate cluster through cluster manager with new nodes (w new NICS) for this hyper-v cluster or is there a easier method to configure this?  Do we need to evict the nodes then readd them with the new NICs?

Please provide steps? I know how to create virtual switches but not sure how best to add new NICs to the nodes of this hyper-v cluster.

thanks.

We have have Hyper-V 2012 Cluster with 2 Nodes that runs about 10 VMs, mostly Server 2008 R2 with a few 2012. Cluster storage is and iSCSI SAN with DSS7 from Open-e.

I have a VM that I cannot add to the Cluster.  Its Server 2012 that runs Exchange 2013 with about 50 mailboxes.   When I go to the Failover Cluster Manager the VM does not show up.  I have had no problems adding any other VMs.

I am trying to determine why I cannot add this VM to the Cluster.
