I am getting 0xC004FD03 error.

I used AVMA key (for 2016 standard) C3RCX-M6NRP-6CXC9-TW2F2-4RHYD

I also tried this : https://victorhomocea.wordpress.com/2016/12/27/this-edition-cannot-be-upgraded-how-to-activate-windows-server-2016-evaluation/

Hyper-V 2019 VM Cluster Replication

Ever since upgrading our 2 Hyper-V clusters to 2019 from 2012 R2 when trying to set up a new VM replication I get errors. Works for existing VMs replicating that were created before the upgrade but any new VMs fail. Enabling the replication seems to create the VM fine on the replica and creates drives at 4,096KB ready for replication but trying to start the initial replication fails with the error:

Start-VMInitialReplication : Hyper-V failed to start replication for virtual machine 'VM': Operation aborted
(0x80004004). (Virtual machine ID E3E5EDD5-66CA-48AB-8F52-CA63A3A6AEC5)

Doing the same process through the failover cluster gui I get a similar error. Says the replication was enabled successfully however initial replication could not be started. And goes on to say Hyper-V could not find the virtual machine on the replica server.

Has this yet to be recognized as a bug in Windows Server 2019?

Failover Cluster Host Crashes when live migrating VMs

$

EVENT-ID: 1230, 1146 & 1069

Server 2016 3 Node Cluster. Validation wizard passes.

When live migrating VMs between host a VM will hang up in a "re-starting" or "processing" mode. The VM does belong to either host and cannot be removed from the Failover Cluster Manger, and doesn't show on the HyperV manager. The Failover Cluster Events then cycle the EVENT-ID: 1230, 1146 & 1069 events. All VM on the host become completely unresponsive.

The only way to correct the cluster is hard shutdown the host server experiencing the Event-IDs. Then import the original VM which began the issues.

2012 R2 server Hyper-V vm's are automatically shutdown.

2012 R2 server Hyper-V vm's are automatically  shutdown. verified the event logs found below examples.

All the events are failover cluster events. Failover Clustering Events: 21502,1155,1069,1205,1146,1230

Hyper-V 2012 Live migration fails with event ID 21502.

Please someone help me out.

Get-SCHostNetworkAdapter command is not fetching IP address of host machines

Hi,

IP address is set on Hyper-V host machine. When I try to query it using the following SCVMM command, IPAddress field in the adapters is empty.

 Get-SCHostNetworkAdapter -VMHost $vmRef.VMHost

Has anyone faced this issue earlier? Is there any way to fix this issue?

Thanks,

Bulk creating hyper V virtual machines

$

I am trying to mass create somewhere in the range of 50 to 150 virtual machines on Hyper-V server 2019. I know that the best way to do that without SCVMM is PowerShell, but I know literally nothing about PowerShell. I have looked at scripts online, but none of them have worked for me and they have all been very complicated and hard to understand.

The required specs of the VMs are listed below.

Windows 10 pro

2gb ram with dynamic memory

An iso located on the server on the c drive

all 12 NICS activated and connected to an external switch

1 vCPU

70gb VHD.

Can you help me come up with a script that will meet the following requirements that I can run to create the machines?

I have a sysprepped windows 10 VM that I would like to clone 100 times in Hyper-V server 2019. however I cannot figure out how to do it. I know that powershell is the way to go, but I'm a powershell idiot. I need to know the absolute easiest way to do this. I have lost hours of sleep over this issue. it is driving me insane.

thank you for your kind support

cannot start Hyper-V virtual machine

Hi,

I have a Windows 2008 Server. It has been now upgraded to Windows 2012. Everything was working fine. But, now I turned off the virtual machine and copied the VHD file to another drive for backup. After this, I am not able to start the old virtual machine. (The VHDs are in place. I only copied them) However, two another virtual machines are running now without any problem. While trying to start, I am getting the error "the operation cannot be performed while the object is in its current state". These are critical server. Any quick thoughts?

Thanks

Hyper-V is not on the list in "Turn Windows features on or off"

Hi,

I cannot find the Hyper-V at:

1. The list in "Turn Windows features on or off".

2. mmc -> add/remove snap-ins.

I also tried to enable intel's virtual machine to see if it will give me the option to have hyper-v.

How can I find the place to enable hyper-v ?

hyperv slow? or win server 2016 slow?

$

Hi,

I have a new server : supermicro, 16 cores xeon, 64Gb ram, hardware raid-10 ssd disks, 1Gbps nic's.

On it I installed win server 2016 std: one for AD+DNS, one for exchange, file sharing, small database (sybase) and rdp.

Problems:

* installing win updates is very slow (installing cumulative update 08/2019 (cumulative 07/2019 xas already installed) is running for 1 hour now. Any hint to speed this? No bottleneck found in task manager.

* I work in rdp and often rdp connection is frozen for 10 seconds. However, task manager shows network nearly not used, cpu use <10% on host, other computers work fine (no problem with internet connection), ... Any hint?

* from client side, it seems very fast.

Any hint?

Windows Server Backup with Hyper-V

I'm trying to use Windows Server Backup on a Windows Server 2019 Standard with Hyper-V, but it gives me errors.

This is the message from Windows Server Backup:
"Backup succeeded but some components backed up were inconsistent in the snapshot. The application this component belongs to might not function properly after this backup is used for recovery."

And this is the message I get in Event Viewer for each VM that is online during the backup:
"VSS writers inside virtual machine '*****' failed to perform BackupComplete to its shadow copy (VSS snapshot) set: A function call was made when the object was in an incorrect state for that function (0x80042301)."

Any suggestion on how to use Windows Server Backup for our Hyper-V VMs?

Windows 2016 Virtual machine stuck at shutting down or restarting

Windows 2016 Virtual machine is having difficulty of shutting down (restarting).  It will be stuck at restarting, or shutting down for hours, or overnight..  and never came back.

Host Windows 2016 server data center:

some facts:

1. VMs with other OS (windows 2012, 2008 etc) on the same host (with same vswitch) do not have any problems.

2.  Windows 2016 VMs are working fine immediately after OS install with no added role/feature, no windows update.  (clean OS)

3.  Problems appeared after a few minutes of running,  (nothing added)

Anyone has similar issues?

Hyper-v VM kernel panic after deleting snapshots

$

We have a ubuntu 16.04 vm running on hyper-v (I believe on windows server 2012). It had like 3-4 snapshots. I was trying to export it but due to # of snapshots (which had been running for a long time) it was too large. I powered down the vm, deleted the snapshots (through the gui), saw that the vhdx files had merged, then exported it. I later powered on the vm and it failed to boot properly and displayed an error message that said there was kernel panic.

One thing we've done is we've booted the vm with ubuntu disk iso and we were able to successfully mount the old filesystem. It seems the files are all there. My boss suspects the bootloader is corrupt somehow so we're currently running fsck. If anyone has any other suggestions for saving the vm that would be great.

I was wondering, based on the above info, what could have possibly caused the issue? Deleting snapshots should be "safe" so there's probably gonna be some paranoia about deleting snapshots until we can figure out the reason.

OPC connection will not initialize unless logged in to server

Hi

The setup is the following:

We have a Windows 2008 R2 hyper-v guest OS running an OPC DA server that is started with an interactive user that starts the OPC server application by double clicking an icon. Then the client GUI is started on a Windows 7 pro machine on the same domain. The client application connects correctly to the server and receives info from the OPC server. The user disconnects (not logout) from the server and things continue to work properly.

The issue is: If the client is restarted, then it will not re-connect correctly to the server again and will just wait - until the moment the user makes a remote (RDP) connection to the server and the OPC connection starts immediately.

What could be issue here? This is just a simple remote login

Merging Hyperv checkpoints/snapshots?

$

Hi Experts,

Please see the screenshot below. Has anyone tried this too? Does it work? We are on the same situation. Thanks to the previous IT that left 2 large (TB worth) snapshot/checkpoint files for this NFS server. The disk where this NFS server is and its snapshots/checkpoints has literally out of space right now (only 18.5mb left). Good thing the NFS server still runs at the moment. But whenever we turn it off, the snapshot merge will take place but will fail right away due to the tight space. So rather than copying these TB worth of VHDs (total of 3) to a temp location and merge them all together there, we are thinking of giving this a try.

Thank you so much!
