Hello,

I am boing to test hyper-v.

I noticed i cant connect from a workgroup(not AD pc) to a hyper-v server 2016. Anyone who knows  decent tutorial that explains what i need to adjust/install?

Also, should i use the Hyper-V Gui or the Hyper-V core server? Are there differences in functionality?

Many thanks for any help and advice.

Hi,

Was wondering if anybody else is having this issue..  I'm on Windows 10 RS5 (1809) and I'm unable to create a new VM and power it up..  It is coming up with the following error:

I came across this issue when trying to get Docker For Windows installed..  So went back to basics and tried to create a basic VM..

I've tried disabling the Hyper-V :

Rebooted and then re-enabling it:

Rebooted, same issue :(

So was wondering if anybody else has had this issue and resolved it?

Thanks

So here I will have 3 OS , but the Vms will be working on the resourse of the host

The host Will have 16 cores . so each VM will have only 4 cores from the host .

Now, The question is : How many licensee do I need ?

only one for the host with 16 cores or three with 16 cores ?

Hi all,

The following commands work on Hyper-V Server 2012R2 and 2016:

Mount-VHD -Path "D:\Hyper-V\Virtual Hard Disks\test.vhdx" -ReadOnly -Passthru

New-VHD -SourceDisk 2 -Path "D:\Test\new-disk.vhdx" -Dynamic

but on Hyper-V Server 2019 I get the following error:

New-VHD : Failed to convert the virtual disk.

cloned machines have the same MAC address on 'Hyper-V Ethernet Adapter'

Met a problem yesterday when 2 Windows Server 2016 machines from the same cloned (syspreped) image were not able to ping each other but can ping any other network devices.

After some troubleshooting we noticed that the MAC address are the same on the 'Hyper-V Ethernet Adapter' on both machines. The workaround is go to Hyper-V manager, change the virtual switch from external to internal, change it back again to external, this cause the Hyper-V Ethernet Adapter to get a new MAC address.

This workaround is not good because we have to do the same for hundreds of computers.

Is there a better way to do this like a PowerShell command or a script or a tool?

Hyper-V 2016: Unable to expand VHDX in windows 2016 cluster and while powering down VM, it gets stuck in stopping state

Hello,

I am experiencing an ongoing issue with Hyper-V 2016, when I try to expand a VHDX via Failover Cluster Manager or Hyper-V Manager the expansion does not complete. Furthermore, when I attempt to stop the virtual machine the machine hangs at stopping and becomes unmanageable, this is happening on Hyper-V 2016 and the virtual machine is running Windows Server 2016

Has anyone else experienced a similar issue with Hyper-V 2016?

Thanks!

Server 2019 VM: Extremely Slow Internet Access

I installed Windows Server 2019 Standard Edition on a Dell server with 64gb and teamed NICs.  I imported VMs that I previously created with Windows Server 2016 (generation 2), and they work fine with no issues.  I created a new WS 2019 VM on this machine which has one major issue: extremely slow internet access.  The problem is limited only to this VM.  I have checked all the settings, but I can't figure out why internet downloads that take seconds on other VMs take hours on this one.  Any help would be appreciated.

How can i create virtual iSCSI controller with hyper-v wmi api using C#?

Hello,

Can anyone help me with creating virtual iSCSI controller and assigning it to virtual machine using WMI? I need it because I want to create virtual machine with controller attached to it. As far as I can understand this issue i need to create iscsi setting data, but I can't find any reference on which wmi class to use? This is what I am trying to do and It's not working :

ManagementClass scsiClass =newManagementClass(@"root\virtualization\v2:Msvm_SCSIProtocolController");ManagementObject scsiData = scsiClass.CreateInstance();string[] resourceSettings =newstring[3];// Memory settings.
resourceSettings[0]= memorySettingData.GetText(TextFormat.CimDtd20);// Processor settings.
 resourceSettings[1]= processorSettingData.GetText(TextFormat.CimDtd20);// Add SCSI
 resourceSettings[2]= scsiData.GetText(TextFormat.CimDtd20);

If I remove "scsiData" then virtual machine creates successfully, any help please?

S2D virtual disk's Operational status and Health status after a node is restarted

$

Hi guys,

Every time any of four nodes of the Windows Server 2016 Failover Cluster is restarted (even when put on pause and then gracefully restarted) an S2D virtual disk goes into Degraded, Incomplete status.

When a node is back online after restart it's Operation Status is In Service but Health status still Warning.

So every time this happens I need to run Repair-VirtualDisk -FriendlyName MirrorVolume1 to fix it which not only takes a lot of time to complete but also affects performance of all virtual machines which virtual disks are stored on that virtual disk.

My question is - should it be like that? I mean surely when a node is restarted there should be some impact on a virtual disk. But when a node is back online after restart should a virtual disk's health be back to normal?

Hyper-V Server 2019 - RDP not working

Hi,

So I am testing with Hyper-V Server 2019, which I deployed to three brand new HP Proliant gen10 machines. I'll test on them for a while before putting them in production. Installation was a breeze, as with Hyper-V 2016. However, I can't seem to enable RDP on Hyper-V Server 2019. When I enable through the menu, it says it's done so, but alas, netstat -a reveals there isn't even a process listenening on port 3389.

I checked the registry, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server is correct. The required services are running. Firewall is completely disabled through netsh for testing. Remote administration is working fine, RDP is not listening at all.

Anyone else ran into this?

Recovery Not Locating Backups to Recover VM

$

Hello Community,

I am running a Server 2016 physical machine with Hyper-V which has two VMs.  The first VM is a DC and the second is a file share server that also has a backup share for all network devices.  The drives for the VM are offline on the physical device in order to be recognized by and attached to the VM.  I need to perform recovery operations on the file server, but when booting to the installation disk, it cannot find the disk with the backups, not matter which IDE controller I put it under and even if it is back online on the physical device.  When attached to the VM, I get error 80070035 and when on the physical machine I get error 80070001.

I was installing an email server and database on the same file server and the SQL database started acting strange.  I performed a system state recovery on the live machine, but after reboot, it goes to a blue screen with a loading circle.  After days, I still cannot login.  I rebooted the main server and turned off and back on the VM to no avail.  I need to recovery the OS, but apparently do not know how to get the VM / installation ISO to locate the disk with all of the backup files.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Fortunately, the VM functions normally even though it will not provide a login screen.  The files shares are located on a different disk altogether and I am willing to reinstall Server 2016 to rebuild the VM if cannot perform a recovery.  Because of the pass-through disks, I also do not have a snapshot.

Hyper-v guest doesn't have access to Host VPN connection

Hi guys!

Setup:

  • Corporate laptop (windows 10)
  • Tested also with Server 2016 + Hyper-v and the problem is the same
  • Running Hyper-V server
  • Connected to corporate VPN with Forcepoint software which forwards all traffic to corporate network
  • Hyper-V guest (Windows 10) doesn't get access to internet (works fine without the VPN)

First I thought well I should make and external virtual switch for the VPN adapter but it doesn't show in the list (WLAN + LAN adapter shows up). We have routed all traffic throug VPN. I've tried to search solutions from internet but haven't found any (tried lots of them but none seems to be working) working solutions. Is this something I can not make work?

A new server install running hyperv RC1.

When i try to add a .vhd to a VM machine, it returns the following error.:

This is a fresh server throwing this error when creating a new vm.

Anyone encountered something like this before?

Cluster Manager Version in RSAT Tools

I'm running Windows 10 and have a cluster built with 3 Windows Server 2008 R2 nodes

I installed RSAT Tools on my laptop, but when I try to connect to the cluster through the Failover Cluster Manager on my laptop I get an error saying:

"The cluster to which you are attempting to connect is not a version of the cluster supported by this version of Failover Cluster Manager."

I checked and the current version of Failover Cluster Manager that I am running is version 10. What version of Failover Cluster Manager do I need to run in order to connect to my cluster, and where can I get that?

I can connect to the cluster from the member nodes just fine.

Hyper v machine stuck in Boot Manager loop

Hi,

We had a stroage issue with our hyper v machines i've had resolved this and merged disks together, and got the main VHDX to like the chains of VHDX's used.

I then edited the machine settings to use the vhdx that was taken down before all the stroage issues were resolved, the Hyper-V machine now boots but boots into a Windows Boot manager loop.

It then has to solve the problem put in the Server 2012 disc and run 'repair my computer' when i do this it takes me into a loop.  The error displayed is;

FILE; \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winload.exe

status; 0xc000000f

info; the application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors.

I've then tried to boot into last known good config the same issue;

copied over the reg keys using bcedit same issue;

Tried to run the cd and the boot loop continues;

On a test machine i was close to rebuilding it but i would lose all configs etc this is our sharepoint site that had errors.

Any help would be great.

Hyper-V support and licencing in Windows Server Essentials 2019

Hello,

Need a bit of help. Can someone tell me if  Microsoft Server 2019 Essentials comes with licencing for Hyper-V so you can have a physical instance of Windows Server 2019 Essentials installed with the same copy of Windows Server 2019 Essentials running as a VM?

Basically I have one physical server but wanted to be sure that if I buy Essentials 2019 it can be used as a host and a VM

Many thanks
