Availability of Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2019

Dear Microsoft!

On https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/evaluate-hyper-v-server-2019 you link the hyper v core server setup. However, it only leads to https://cloudblogs.microsoft.com/windowsserver/2018/11/13/update-on-windows-server-2019-availability/ and there is no download available.

When are you planning to make it available?

By the way: The download that was briefly online https://software-download.microsoft.com/download/pr/17763.1.180914-1434.rs5_release_SERVERHYPERCORE_OEM_X64FRE_EN-US.ISO is barely usable for 2 reasons:

A after installing it and activating Remote desktop, the server does not start to listen on port 3389. No RDP possible!

B Trying to do an in-place upgrade from Hyper-V Server 2016 leads to an error: "The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during SET_Product_Key operation"

Hi!

I am having problems with activation of two virtual machines... virtual machines are installed from downloaded 2016 evaluation iso.

host server is 2019 stardard (activated)

I am getting 0xC004FD03 error.

I used AVMA key (for 2016 standard) C3RCX-M6NRP-6CXC9-TW2F2-4RHYD

I also tried this : https://victorhomocea.wordpress.com/2016/12/27/this-edition-cannot-be-upgraded-how-to-activate-windows-server-2016-evaluation/

Hyper-V Hosts having same processor but showing Compatiability issues

Hi Team

I have created a new cluster of 6 hosts DL380 G10 with Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 6132 CPU @ 2.60GHz processors in them, they are on same ROM update as well.

if I try to Live migrate via SCVMM following message occurs in Select host tab.

"The Virtual Machine (VM Name) is not compatible with the virtualization host (Host name). the virtual Machine may not start or operate correctly on the Host. This may be due to inconsistent processor combability information. "

When I Try with the Failover Cluster Manager it gives me following error

Live migration of 'SCVMM DCUTL01' failed.Virtual machine migration operation for 'VMNAME' failed at migration destination 'HOSTNAME'. (Virtual machine ID xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)The processor settings for virtual machine 'VMNAME' are not compatible with physical computer 'HOSTNAME'. To migrate this virtual machine, you must first shut it down. After shutdown, you can migrate this virtual machine or export it and then import it on the destination physical computer with the correct processor settings. (Virtual machine ID xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)

I have not tried it with allow from compatibility mode on as that will not be a resolution. all my processors are the same.

Thanks

DFS and resilient FS options

Morning

I have a 4 node Server 2016 Hyper-v cluster running on a Dell VRTX (Built in shared storage), this provides a number of VM's including a few File servers.

We use DFS namespace for most of the file servers, simply to make it easier as servers get changed, upgraded, renamed etc.

Lets take the example of FS1 (File server1), it has a DFS namespace with a number of folders/shares under it.

I want a solution to have a FS2 that also shares the same DFS name space, so that we can do maintenance on FS1 while users continue to work. Then maintenance on FS2 while FS1 is back up.

What options are available with our Hyper-v Cluster to achieve this?

One of the other File servers is simply for users H: drives, a share for each user exists, for example \\FS3\fred$.

What options do we have for a 2nd server for this, to allow the same kind of maintenance?

This cluster all exists on one site, in one rack.

Thanks in advance for suggestions and ideas :)

Virtual Machine stuck in Stopping state

I have a single virtual machine running on my Windows Server 2012 Standard Hyper-V host. Occasionally my VM goes offline (as far as my remote monitoring agent is concerned) and when I check the VM status in Hyper-V Manager the VM shows as Stopping. The vmwp.exe process is still running and cannot be terminated. My only option seems to be to reboot the server.

The server went offline at 10:09AM today and I checked System and Application logs for an explanation but found nothing however in the Hyper-V-VMMS Admin log I found this error at 8:29AM today:

Date:          20/02/2019 08:29:04
Event ID:      14100
Task Category: None
Level:         Warning
Keywords:
User:          SYSTEM
Computer:      server.domain.local
Description:
Shut down physical computer. Stopping/saving all virtual machines...

I am not sure if this is relevant.

Is it possible to identify why the VM is stopping?

Thanks

David

Hyper-V Manager not able to connect the Local Server

$

Dear Experts...

Greetings !!!

1. Issue Description:
Hyper-V Manager not able to connect the Local Server – Shows connecting to Virtual Machine Manager Service state and did not connect. Hyper-V Host shows Host Not Responding in the SCVMM console
Due to which VDIs were not launching to newly connecting users as just disappearing

2. Temporary Fix:
If we restart the server, the issue will be resolved but the current active users gets impacted.
Need to power on all the VDIs and ensured all got registered state
And also the same issue keep on re-occurring frequently and affecting production users

3. Troubleshooting Steps Taken:
We tried to restart the service SCVMM and WS-Remote Management service which got restarted. But still the issue persists.
When we restart the WMI Service, one of its dependent service Hyper-V Virtual Machine Manager (vmms.exe) goes to stopping state and neither stopped nor restarted.
Tried to kill the vmms.exe process from task manager and via command prompt using the commands but it never destroyed.
It says cannot stop the Virtual machine manager service, already another running instance exists, access denied (when kills process from task manager), etc.
Until the server reboot the issue will not be resolved.

Thanks in Advance ...

Copy text from Guest to Host

I am using Windows 8 Pro (with Hyper-V Role) and have created a Guest Virtual Machine for Windows 2012.

I am surprised to see that the Guest Virtual Machine Connection only has one way to send Clipboard text.  Wish the Clipboard menu was complete to support copy/paste both ways.

How does one transfer clipboard text from guest to Host.  Please note that I have not setup networking on my Guest.

Hyper-V support and licencing in Windows Server Essentials 2019

Hello,

Need a bit of help. Can someone tell me if  Microsoft Server 2019 Essentials comes with licencing for Hyper-V so you can have a physical instance of Windows Server 2019 Essentials installed with the same copy of Windows Server 2019 Essentials running as a VM?

Basically I have one physical server but wanted to be sure that if I buy Essentials 2019 it can be used as a host and a VM

Many thanks

Hyper-V Could not retrieve replication health data

I have the following problem.

Did Windows Patching on all nodes on my Cluster this Weekend.

12 VM's reports replication health Warning on the Primary Server.

When trying to view replication health - it states could not retrieve replication health data.

When looking on the Replica Server all is normal and replication succeeds.

All Servers are running latest integration tools.

I removed replication , and replicas, redone replication then it appears after some time same issue happens.

PLEASE ASSIT ME

Hi,

Was wondering if anybody else is having this issue..  I'm on Windows 10 RS5 (1809) and I'm unable to create a new VM and power it up..  It is coming up with the following error:

I came across this issue when trying to get Docker For Windows installed..  So went back to basics and tried to create a basic VM..

I've tried disabling the Hyper-V :

Rebooted and then re-enabling it:

Rebooted, same issue :(

So was wondering if anybody else has had this issue and resolved it?

Thanks

Cannot manage Hyper-V 2012 core from Windows 10 Enterprise.

Been stuck at the coal face trying to figure this one out for best part of 24 hours now.

I have a dell blade server, and 3 of the nodes on it are configured as Windows Hyper-V 2012 core servers, with a verity of VM's running on them.

A week ago, after a disk crash on my workstation, I had to re-install windows 10 enterprise.  As it was a re-install I patched it all the way up to 1809 (Prior to the crash I was at 1803).

After I reinstalled, I went to access the Hyper-V servers as I had done without problems previously, with both Windows 7 and W10-1803.

As expected, I got the various winRM trusted hosts errors, so I ran the required WinRM commands, made sure the firewall had the correct rules in place, etc etc...

However, I cannot in any way connect to my servers using Hyper-V.

On the advice of some other technet forums, and various MS-Connect posts and MSDN Blogs, I installed the "Windows Server Manager" on the windows 10 machine, and that also has problems accessing the Hyper-V servers.

Remote desktop connections work totally fine, I can RDP into the servers no problem.  All 3 servers have both an Administrator account on, and an account using my own Login Name that I log onto my Windows 10 PC with, which is also part of the administrators group on my machine, and on the 3 remotes.

All the machines are in a work group, rather than in a domain, but the work group settings appear fine too, as I can access the file shares and other resources perfectly fine, from my personal account, and logged in as "Administrator"

I've disabled the firewalls on the 3 Hyper-V servers and that's made no difference (Although not tried disabling the Win10 FW yet)

Corefig, which I have installed on each of the Hyper-V servers tells me that all the various rules are enabled, and that WinRM is correctly set up, I have the security level set to allow "All Clients", not just the newer more secure ones.

I cannot see anything that appears to be wrong.

The windows event logs don't give me any useful information, other than the updates I last tried to install failed (When in actual fact according to the screen I was looking at, said they had succeeded).

In Hyper-V manager, all I get is this:

Where "Lucinda" is the Windows 10 machine used for management, and "CB*" are the 3 hyper-v nodes.

In server manager, all I see is this:

I'm really out of options now.  It all worked perfectly previously, under 1803, but now it doesn't matter what I try I can't seem to get it to work.

I'd really appreciate any thoughts anyone has.

Cheers

Shawty

Which Physical NIC is my VM Guest using?

$

Hello everyone....

Our Host machine has 4 physical NICs which are teamed into a single logical switch.  (Setting is currently Switch Independent / Hyper-V Port)

When the VM is turned on, I would like to know which of four physical NICs it is using in the team.  I am hoping there is a nice PowerShell command for this, but I haven't been able to find any.

...Or perhaps there are some network teaming command that would tell me what IP addresses are currently being used by each of the physical NICs in the team? I simple "ipconfig" will only show me the host IP address.

Thanks!

Hello all...

Someone on the Hyper-V networking team might want to change this error message...…  I didn't bother looking, but I'm sure that I don't need to insert the disk into the drive and close the door.... :)

Dynamic Memory - Over Allocation

$

I have an environment where hosts have 256Gb RAM and VMs are allocated a dynamic memory maximum of 1Tb as a default (Startup =4Gb and Min = 512Mb).

I have read a number of posts and articles that state you should not over allocate dynamic memory (which makes sense) but they are all for 2008R2 (some 2012R2). I am trying to find guidance/evidence that the current default is not best practice and find documentation on how dynamic memory in 2016 should be configured.

Is anyone aware of any good sites, documents, deep dives, etc that can help me draw up guidance for a build guide?

Clearing the list of Network Adapter maintained by the guest OS

$

0

If you remove the Nework Adapter from a VM and later add one, the Name and Device Name properties get incremented with a numeric suffix. If the removed Adapter had a static IP assigned to it, and if you try to assign the same IP to the newly added adapter, you'll be prompted with a notice/warning.

Same thing happens if you use a VHD with more than one VM - with each VM results a numeric increment in the name and a prompt if you try to assign a static IP which was used by any previous VM that used the VHD.

So, the guest OS is keeping a list of Network Adapters it ever used. Is there any way I can clear this list?
