There is a cluster of three nodes "Hyper-V Server 2012 R2» and virtual machines on it with the "Windows Server 2008 R2». I try to use "Performance Monitor" but one of the VM always displayed twice in "instances of selected object".
How I can fix it?

Sorry for Russian on screen. I have only this version of Windows.

Hi guys,

I  have just installed  Hyper-v 2012 R2 and trying to enable GPU pass-through support for VM.

And I noticed that there is a RemoteFX GPU on the hyper-v server setting page.

RemoteFX GPU is not same as GPU pass-through(directly pass the whole GPU to vm), am i right?

thanks for your help

Upgrading Hyper-V (WinSer2012 -> WinSer2012R2)

I have been trying to upgrade our windows server 2012 installation that is running hyper-v, but have a problem with the physical nic. The issue is that upon finalising the upgrade, WinSer2012R2 presents a BSOD (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL) and the only hardware device I cannot remove prior to the upgrade is the NIC so I assume this is giving me the grief.

I have tried to remove the NIC driver, but Hyper-V depends on it (all vPcs depend on it as well as a logical switch).

How can I remove the physical NIC? Is my only option to reconfigure all vPcs to have no NIC and delete the logical switches? This is a lot of work to reconfigure and error prone as well.

I would have checked log files for the boot, but for some reason, WinSer2012R2 does not create any log entries or memory dumps for me to look at. So all I have is the above mentioned BSOD hint.

Suggestions?

Destination Host Unreachable error messge

Hi

I am having two VMs running server 2012 in Hyper-V. Both are configured with internal virtual switches and with static IPs. But when I make them ping each other, I get a "destination unreachable" message from the same VM's IP. Please help.

Lost network connection

I have a Dell Poweredge R310 that has Server 2008 R2 installed with Hyper-v.  the network card is part of the system board, and has two ports.  Only one port is connected to the network, and the other port is disabled in Windows.  I don't have an extra network jack to conncet the other port to.

I have installed a Server 2008 R2 guest OS, and now I get intermittent network connectivity on both the host and the guest.  Basically either the guest will have a good network connection, but the host will be limited, or the host will have a good connection and the guest will say unidentified network.  The guest has a static IP address.

When I installed Hyper-v, I assigned the virtual network to the network port that is connected to the network.  I have been reading some of the best practices, and it says that two nics should be used.  Since I cannot connect the second network port to the network, is there a way to configure this so it works better.  Not I have another Dell server with two network ports, with only one connected to the network and the network works fine on the host and guest.  Thanks.

Fixed vs Dynamic Benchmarks, fixed is slower

In the past I've never noticed much gain from going to a fixed disk over dynamic so I decided to finally put it to the test. I tested with two different disk arrays, one a slow SATA using storage spaces (RAID1+0) and another using SSD in straight RAID 0. Each array has 4 disks. Each connected over SATA600. The speed of the disks ultimately doesn't matter, I just want to find out if fixed really is faster than dynamic. I'm using crystal disk mark 4.0.1 x64 inside a VM. I ran two tests each, 3 passes with a 1GB file. This is all on 2012 R2 and VHDX.

I first tested with SSD and after the results I thought maybe it was just SSD since those disks are so fast anyway. Maybe no latency wipes out any performance loss you get with the overhead of dynamic.

  Random Write 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) :     0.269 MB/s [    65.7 IOPS]

So why isn't fixed disk giving any performance better? Writes should at least be better right? And I'm not sure why those reads are so high on the slow SATA disks with dynamic. This is local storage so no CSV cache.

I have installed a physical machine (Win 8 64bit), now we are trying to move it to Hyper-V. I have created its VHD image and then tried to add that VHD in Hyper-V server. But every time when i tried to start that virtual machine black screen appears with cursor blinking on left top corner and remains in this state. Can you please help me in this problem?

Getting Hyper-V replication health information through "get-vmreplication" powershell cmdlet

Hi,

I would like to check replication status of my HyperV hosts through "get-vmreplication" powershell cmdlet lusing "ComputerName" parameter like this

get-vmreplication -ComputerName HYPERV1

This succeeds on most of my Hyperv hosts, but does not on one particular. This same cmdlet run locally on this host succeds.
The difference between the hosts is OS, on the ones where cmdlet succeeds "Windows Server 2012 Datacenter" is running, on the one failing "Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2012 R2". Is there a reason why get-vmreplication cmdlet would fail remotely on "Hyper-V Server"? Is this officially documented?

Hyper-V error

When joining Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 core to domain, it's not manageable anymore

Hi,

We're experiencing a very strange error when joining a Hyper-V machine to our domain. After joining the machine to the domain and give it a reboot, it isn't manageable any more via the Hyper-V MMC or 59-Manager. I'm getting the "RPC server is unavailable" error.

If i join it to the domain without applying any group policy to it, it remains manageable, even after rebooting it multiple times. At the moment i apply a group policy to it (no matter which), i'm getting the error.

I've spend a lot of hours research on it, and tried several changes on GPO's, but still haven't found a solution for it.

Is there any one who recognises my issue, and have a possible solution for it?

Any help will be appreciated, and thanks in advance!

Hi,

We are planning to go Windows 2012 Data center edition for Hyper-V VM.

In the 2012 Data center edition, we can able to create the unlimited no of VM instances (confirmed by Microsoft whitepaper).

I want to clarify about the OS license for the each VM instance in the Hyper-V server whether that license to be purchase separately or not need.

Kindly help on the same.

Error exporting Hyper-V VM

I am running 2 VMs in Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V. But am running out of space on the partition where the VMs were created. I have another larger partition on the same Hyper-V server and want to move the VMs to this larger partition.

I was able to successfully export one of the VMs to the larger partion and import it succesfully. The process ran perfectly.

However when I try to export the second VM the following error is is generated...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An error occured while attempting to export the virtual machine.
Export filed for virtual machine 'SALVO'.
Export failed for virtual machine 'SALVO'
(41322DFC-B316-4CF8-9B19-7753078F0D4B) with error 'The system cannot find the file specified.' (0x80070002).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What can I do to resolve this error. The VM is functioning fine. I don't understand why I am not able to export it. At one point in time I did have a second vhd attached to the system. But I removed it long ago and there were no observable side effects.

Thanks, David

Do I need to use Sysprep to clone VMs on my personal lab?

$

I’m a programmer and I’m trying to build up my personal Lab. I have a machine with Hyper-V Standalone Server 2012 R2 installed. I need to create VMs which will be used for testing applications, creating small virtual networks for learning Networking Basics and other learning purpose. None of these VMs are gonna exist for long, as I will be deleting them as their purpose is served and then I’m gonna create some new ones.

So, definitely I need some Cloning-type feature that is available on VMWare. I’m aware of the Export-Import feature available on Hyper-V. What I'm really confused with is this Sysprep tool, as I found articles saying this tool actually prepare the VHD to be used with new VMs, and it assigns new SID, MAC, GUID etc so that new cloned VM doesn’t conflict with existing ones.

I’d like to know –

  1. What is the difference between using Export-Import and using Sysprep? If I use the Export-Import feature, do I still need to Sysprep the guest? What Sysprep really does?
  2. For my scenario do I need to use Sysprep?
  3. What is the best procedure (steps) to create a Template VM for my scenario?

Unable to enable Hyper-V on Windows 10 build 10130

Hi,

I did a clean install of the Windows 10 Insider Preview build 10130.

After that, I tried enabling Hyper-V features (via the enable Windows Features). It said it required a restart and upon restarting, it gave a message at the boot screen saying that it is unable to complete installing features and is reverting. This is followed by two restarts and then I am able to login.

Please help me. I need to enable Hyper-V to install the Windows 10 Mobile emulators.

Thanks,

SUSE SLES11 SP3 in HyperV cannot ping default gateway

Hello,

i have installaed sles11 s3 in a 2012 HyperV server and my network administrator sees my mac (the result of ifconfig) and says that everything should be ok from network perspective.

Still, i cannot ping the default gateway (destination host unreachable)

I have used a legacy provider and the network/vlan configuration is identical to a windows machine that is already working perfectly.

I have 2 network cards in both the machines.

I have tried to switch the network configuration of the cards, but still didn-t work.

I have heard that there is bonding between the mac address displayed in sles and the one configured in HyperV but i have no idea what exactly should be done,

Any ideas?

Thanks

Elli

Hyper V VDI memory grows quickly and exceeds memory maximum

I have created 4 virtual desktops, all running Windows 7 32 bit, on a Windows Server 2008 R2 server.  3 of them are working fine and have no problems.  The fourth one is growing over its maximum capacity for memory and no idea why.  All that I have done with it is Windows Updates.  The hard drive had a set maximum of 127 GB and it grew to 130 GB over night.  It was only in the testing stage and not even deployed to anyone to use as I was getting ready to install an application but hadn't yet.  Any ideas what could have caused it and what I can do to keep it from happening again?
