Routing traffic from one IP from one Nic with two IPs to a virtual machine

$

Hello. I have a question for networking specialists. Because it's about a perhaps typical Hyper-V scenario i posted it here. Here we go:

I have a host with one nic. To this one nic the provider routes two external IPs IP1 and IP2. Hyper-V and Routing and Remote Access is installed on the host. I instantiated one Hyper-V virtual ethernet adapter "vEthernet (External)" with the external IP1 and IP2, external gateway and external DNS-servers and one Hyper-V virtual ethernet adapter "vEthernet (Internal)" with just the internal network gateway-address 192.168.0.1. The installed virtual machine has the fixed ip 192.168.0.10 and default gateway 192.168.0.1. Accessing the internet from the virtual machine is possible. Until now, no traffic is routed to the VM.

What do I need to do, to route all traffic coming in via IP2 over 192.168.0.1 to the vm with 192.168.0.10?

Each time I try to configure NAT, accessing the internet from the vm is not possible any more. Actual routing is:

C:\Users\Administrator>route print

FCM Live Migration slow one way

Two node 2012 R2 cluster, running on two identical Dell PE R720.

Live migration from Server B --> Server A happens in a flash 3% --> 52% --> 60% --> done

Live migration from Server A --> Server B takes rather long 3% --> 52% --> than it trickles down by 1% for minutes

Any idea what to try to do with it, so the direction of the Live Migration behaves in same quick way (as it can obviously)

Seb

Hello,

I have a problem with my newly built Hyper-V cluster.
Live Migration fails one way.
I can live migrate from HYPERV1 to HYPERV2, but not the other way.
Quick migration works both ways.

Both servers are up to date Windows 2012R2 Datacenter editions.
I have disabled both the firewalls, error remains.
I get this error when I try to migrate:

Live migration of 'Virtual Machine TEST' failed.

Virtual machine migration operation for 'TEST' failed at migration destination 'HyperV2'. (Virtual machine ID A6BDB54B-84AD-4BA7-8927-3E87D5057C43)

User 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM' failed to create external configuration store at 'C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1\Configuration': The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed.. (0x800706FD)

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Hyper-V Settings: VM-Bus Network Adapter versus Network Adapter

Hi Everyone,

I'm running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard with SP1

There is a Hyper-V Virtual Machine running CITRIX netscaler (Linux) that was setup by Citrix external contractors.

I note in the settings for the VM:

1 x VM-Bus network Adapter

1 x Network Adapter

I can only add a "Network Adapter" to a new VM

Where is the setting to add a VM-Bus Network Adapter? Is it any difference to a "Network Adapter"??

We are having performance issues with the Citrix implementation.

Thanks in advance.

Hyper-V replication fails for VMs on one host in a cluster

Hi, We have two sites with hyper-v clusters four nodes in each cluster. Replication has been configured from Site A to Site B. Replica broker is in use. Replication worked for some time, now all VMs on one host in Site A are not replicating. When these VMs migrated to other hosts in the cluster replication is resumed. Migrating already replicating VM from other hosts to this host goes to critical state.

It does not allow to enable any new VM replications as well, fails with kerberos authentication issues. Error 0x00002EFD

One of the host at Site B has the following errors.

Event ID 29212

Hyper-V failed to authenticate the primary server using Kerberos authentication. Error: The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request. (0x800703E3)

I have done the tests from below URL NLTEST, setspn, kilst and checked local policy accessing computer over network permissions. All seems to be fine.

Can't install hyper-v tools or powershell

I have an issue with a production server running Server 2012 r2 core and the Hyper-V feature with live VMs on it. The Hyper-V GUI mgmt tools and PowerShell modules are not installed and I cannot get them to install. It always fails with error 0x800F0906 suggesting I specify a source even when I use the /source: switch with or without the/LimitAccess switch.

I have tried running the install via DISM or the standard PowerShell Install-WindowsFeature commands.

I have even tried installing the whole GUI of the server but that fails too. Even when I specify a source.Install-WindowsFeature Server-Gui-Mgmt-Infra,Server-Gui-Shell

I have made sure the server has internet access.

I read that if you are installing from installation media that is the original disk then installed updates it can mean the media is effectively out of date so I have even injected all the applicable updates into a WIM and used that as a source but it still fails.

I looked through the CBS log and found a line saying “Exec: Not able to pre-stage package: package_4854_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.3.1.14” but I can’t really see why

Could it be due to a corrupt/unreadable package so it fails the install?

Hyper-V Virtual Switch Manager on Surface Pro 3 - Bind Failed: Data Supplied is of Wrong Type

Just over a week ago I set up Hyper-V on Windows 10 (build 14257) on a Surface Pro 3, set up a new external virtual network and everything worked well until some updates were applied today and the external network I created had changed itself from being set to Internal instead of External and VMs displayed network connection disconnected.

I have tried to fix this from Hyper-V Virtual Switch Manager but every change I try results in an error message when it is being applied saying:

Ethernet port '{A62DC670-A998-4435-8984-DC21D5996290}' bind failed: Data supplied is of wrong type. (0x8007065D).

I did find I could remove the existing virtual switch but now I have no virtual switches and am unable to create any due to the error above.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

I have looked online at similar problems but in each case the error is different.

Thanks

Robin

Software to group Hyper-V VMs

Is there any third party software that I can use on a Windows 8.1 OS that will group Hyper-V VMs? I'd like to put VMs into groups such as "Exchange", "DCs", etc. I looked but I can't find any.

Enhance Sound Quality on Virtualized Environment

Hi,

I have a requirement to use a sound card for an education software run on Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V virtual machine. The server hardware is Dell PowerEdge R730 server.

When limited user, the sound output of the education application is acceptable via RDP session. When there are more users, the sound become very choppy. Users are using Mac OSX and connect through  Microsoft Remote Desktop client for Mac.

Will a hardware sound card work for virtualized environment, does it help to improve sound quality?

Configure server isolation with hyper-v

I have 3 hyper-v servers running on a 2012 R2 host.  Lets call the servers A, B, and C.

I would like A and C to be able to talk to one another and B and C able to talk to one another; but I do not want A and B to be able to talk to one another.

All three virtual servers will only have access to one physical NIC on the host.

What is the best way to achieve this?

Gen 2 VM status shows locked when first starting

Hi, I have a Gen 2 VM on a clustered host that when starting shows a status ofStarting (Locked) for a short time before starting normally.  In the Microsoft-Windows-FailoverClustering/Diagnostic log there is a 2051 error, but this error is not generated in the event log every time the VM starts with this status.

Log Name:      Microsoft-Windows-FailoverClustering/Diagnostic
Source:        Microsoft-Windows-FailoverClustering
Date:          19/02/2016 7:10:29 AM
Event ID:      2051
Task Category: None
Level:         Error
Keywords:
User:          SYSTEM
Computer:      BRHYPERV04.brn.com.au
Description:
[RCM] rcm::RcmApi::OnlineResource: (5960)' because of 'Resource or one of its providers has been marked as in Locked Mode.'

This error occurs with another Gen 2 VM on a different host in a separate cluster.  It appears to occur whether I configure the VM to boot from the efi file or from the HDD.

I haven't seen this with any of my Gen 1 VM's.  Does anyone know if this is normal behaviour for Gen 2 VM's or if there is some settings I haven't configured correctly?

Unexpected shutdown of VMs after Hyper-V host is rebooted

$

Hi,

we are running Hyper-V 2012 and 2012R2s host with Windows Server 2012 VMs.

VMs are configured to go into saved state.

But after Windows updates (SCCM) and after some scheduled reboots we are experiencing bad issues
within the OS of the VMs one can see "unexpected shutdown" events which causes trouble  with DFS-R for example

So my questions:
1. If we schedule reboots with the  "shutdown" command could it be that some VMs are not completely put into saved state and the hosts reboots anyway?

2. If there is the "/force" Parameter is this a difference?
So does the host behave differently then regarding the VMs?

3. Do DFS-R configurations get into trouble when using "saved state"? So would it be recommended to use "shutdown" instead?

Thanks in advance!!

Kind regards

/bkpfast

Hi Guys,

Im tring to move a VM but i get the above error.

In testing if i move the VM to the same local server on the same disk array it works.

When i come to move it across the network to a 2nd HV server it errors?

Any ideas?

Both servers are 2012R2 on the domain using kerberos and compression in the performance options.

Thanks James

CTRL ALT DELETE does not work from Hyper-V Console

I  have a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 VHD that was created and running on a Windows 2008 R2 Standard machine for some time with no issues.  Last night I shut down the guest os and copied the vhd to a new Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise server.  Now everything seems fine except for CTRL ALT DELETE using the Hyper-V console.  I am able to rdp in.  Other guests on the same server are working as expected.  I have read many of the other posts and none really seem to fit our issue.  Any suggestions?

But after that i cannot see him active in the VM Win 7. If i go back to Disk Management in Server 2008 is standing there as offline (and i cannot put it online here says ACESS DENIED) so please give some tips how to fix this.

cannot connect to multicast NLB from same subnet

I've setup lots NLB instances in lab environment. all NLB nodes are VMs which running on WIN2012R2 STD, the HOSTs are running on WIN2012R2 DC. each NLB node has two NICs, they are connected to same VLAN.

NLB mode is multicast, static ARP entry was added on L3 core switch. those NLBs have been working for a long time without any issue.

but Since Jan 2016, these NLB instances has problems almost at the same time. The NLB VIP can be reached from other subnet, but cannot be accessed within same subnet. based on the network capture on NLB node, I can't found response of ARP broadcast.

I try to enable MAC address spoofing, the NLB VIP would get available for client which from same VLAN.

my question is

1. how to resolve this issue without enable MAC spoofing?

2. what's the root Cause?

I hadn't made any changes on switch devices. except monthly windows update on server side.

Third party VM Backup fails when enable VSS

Hi,

We are using Veeam Backup and Replication 8 to backup SBS2008 SP2 virtual machine.  Veeam is installed on a workgroup Hyper-V host server running Windows Server 2012.  The SBS server is running SQL express, Exchange 2007 and SharePoint foundation. We started having issue recently with the VSS backup for the SBS server:

Hyper-V VSS writer retryable error when trying to backup with VSS enabled.

This Hyper-V VSS writer error gets resolved after restarting VMM service on the host.

Also seeing Exchange related errors:

- Exchange VSS writer has unsuccessfully completed the backup of storage group.  No log files have been truncated for this storage group. Event 9782

- Information Store Shadow copyu instanace aborted.  Event 2007

We have tried:

- run Windows Server Backup with VSS full backup - Backup job completed successfully

- run Veeam backup with VSS disabled - Backup job completed successfully

However when we run vssadmin list writers on SBS server, it shows no error for the Exchange VSS writer.

We have already contacted Veeam and they have run some diagnostics and confirmed it is related to Windows Server.

Could it be SQL or SharePoint VSS writiers interfering with Exchange VSS writer?

Please provide some assistance on how to resolve this issue.

Thanks

Server 2012 VM will not boot

I have a Server 2012 VM that will not boot, it will finally get to the spinning circle and sit there forever.

I can mount the vhdx files, view the files just fine.  I don't now what else it can be.  I've tried disconnecting all other drives (we have another drive connected for user files/shares) and it still does the same thing.  I've removed network controller, tried to boot, same.

I can't help but think it's the main HD.

any help / pointers to repair or resolve is greatly appreciated.  i'm open to any suggestions

Thanks!

trouble with Windows 2012 R2

I have a Windows 10 host with Hyper-V role installed and 2 vm, one Ubuntu and one Windows 2012 R2.

Ubuntu works very well but Windows 2012 drives me crazy. If I reboot the VM after updates I cannot connect via Hyper-V manager because "ctrl+alt+del" or "crtl+alt+end" doesn't work! Also the RDP refuse to connect me to the vm. Windows 2012 vm is young, with basic installation and updates.

It's really annoying!!!!

Cloned VM's with identical BIOS GUID's

$

We have 68 machines that share a UUID with at least one other machine in our environment. This had to have happened when VM's were cloned and a new unique GUID was not generated.

This is causing issues with our BMC Atrium Discovery and Dependency Mapping appliance as it is seeing several VM's with the same GUID and cannot tell them apart from one other.

This is apparently the information it is pulling from each OS:
WMIC
SELECT SerialNumber FROM Win32_BIOS
SELECT Vendor, IdentifyingNumber, Name, UUID FROM Win32_ComputerSystemProduct

I need a method to change the UUID's of these VM's. I found this article which uses PowerCLI to "add" the current time to a specified GUID every two seconds thus giving each machine a unique id.
http://www.derekseaman.com/2010/10/making-your-vmware-vm-uuids-unique.html

Is there a Hyper-V equivalent to accomplishing the same task?
