Hello all,

So I have server 2012 VDI setup for virtual machines (not sessions), all is well. We only have one master image which is windows 8 pro (volume license), office 2013 std, navision, some little bits and bobs. I sysprepped this machine (using sysprep.exe /generalize /oobe /shutdown /mode:vm and created 3 VMs based of it, all is well. 

The template VM was snap shotted before sysprep so I can get right back to the machine without the sysprep headache I have seen before. 

So the issue is, a user needed the visual studio tools that come with SQL 2012 for navision customisations and reporting, so I installed from the SQL ISO (only the single component) and rebooted. When I run sysprep now I get the dreaded error with little info, so here are the logs from the panther folder:

My question is as follows, does anyone think this app is going to work as I need it to and allow me to sysprep the template once installed, and if so what will I need to do?

I’m looking for advice about Application-Consistent replica copy for my SQL Navision server (db around 60 GB) on Hyper-V 3.0. Simply - I don’t know if I should enable this or not.

I know I need to enable “Set-VMReplication -VMName <<var>vm-name</var>> -EnableWriteOrderPreservationAcrossDisks 1” to make sure my logs and database are replicated together –this is clear.

But about Application-Consistent replica I found only information it takes vss snapshot to make sure I have consistent application and needs to be used cheerfully as has impact to performance.

And now:

1. If I don’t set this (Application-Consistent replica copy) will my replica be inconsistent and I will find database corrupted after switching to backup node in case of disaster?
2. If I enable this feature will I find my sql server frizzing during the process so for example every hour? What is real impact on performance? Anybody had experience with this?
3. Maybe it is better to set sql backup and take full one during night and logs every hour to disk which will be replicated? I would prefer to avoid this solution if possible.

Could somebody with experience advise me please?

What is the correct approach ?

Hyper-V module for power-shell doesn't seem to have this function.

i have hyper-v 2012 & one windows 7 ultimate virtual machine. i have added 3 virtual SCSI disks for this VM.in each disk i have created some volumes . an strange problem exist here :

in my windows 7 vm , when i run

diskpart

select disk 0

list volumes

system shows also other volumes that exists on other two hard disk (According to i have selected only disk 0 & it must show me only volumes which exist in this disk.

any idea?

We had a disk problem on one of our Hiper-V servers and one of the virtual machines was unable to start up. Since we need some files who were on the VHD of that VM I mounted the VHD on that Win2008R2 HV server to get the files. No errors were reported and the VHD was mounted successefully as a new disk on the Hyper-V Server.
Now I'm trying to detach the VHD but I'm always getting the message "The file and directory is corrupted and unreadable." and this doesn't allow me to detach the VHD. Is there any other way to get this done?

I've alredy tried to do it using the DiskPart shell and the Storage\Disk Manager console!

I've made a search on the web but all I can find is people unable to attach the VHD due to this reason, not unable to detach as I want to do!

• 2x 4-Node Hyper-V 2012 Datacenter Clusters connected by a 10Gbits Link
• Hyper-V replication configured between them using replication broker.
• Using Kerberos Authentication.

Problem:

• Sometimes (every 2 or 3 days) a replication breaks and must be resumed manually.
• When the replication stops we found these 2 errors in eventlog on the source cluster node:
• Hyper-V suspended replication for virtual machine 'xxxxx' due to a non-recoverable failure. (Virtual Machine ID xxxxxx). Resume replication after correcting the failure.
• Hyper-V could not replicate changes for virtual machine 'xxxxx' : The device does not recognize the command. (0x80070016). (Virtual Machine ID xxxxxxx)
• Later event Hyper-V-VMMS 29174 show very small amount of data pending to be replicated for the broken replication VM (200mb)
• It seems happening more frequently on a large VMs.

Looking online i found nothing but a lot of people having this specific problem, someone has ever found a solution?

I'm no expert in MS Windows systems and i need help fixing backup issues.

We have two physical machines running  Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1 as a Hyper-V host for three virtual machines each - domain controller, exchange server, file server, also running  Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1.

The problem is, since september weekly backups fail each time, on both machines.

Backup is configured as task scheduler job:

WBADMIN START BACKUP -backupTarget:e: -include:D:\vms -vssFull -quiet

Where E is backup disk (155GB free of 600GB), and D:\vms is location, where virtual hard disks and virtual machines are stored.

Backup used to work properly for several weeks. Windows Server Backup shows 24 number of copies, latest available from 28-09-2013.

I do have registered vss writer:

According to event ID  10107, machine  slx-lu-ex1 does have connected three phisical drives with exchange databases, logs and journaling, but there disks were mounted since beginning.

We have a Hyper V server with Windows 2008 R2 SP1.on this server there are 2 VM s one is a VM for Symantec Endpoint manager and the  other is a SBS 2011 server.

Windows backup is enabled on the Hyper V server and getting backed up to a 2TB USB 3 drive.

Intermittently Hyper V backup fails with the following error message

The backup operation that started at '?2013?-?09?-?20T03:30:10.642000000Z' has failed because the Volume Shadow Copy Service operation to create a shadow copy of the volumes being backed up failed with following error code '2155348129'. Please review the event details for a solution, and then rerun the backup operation once the issue is resolved.

When this happens the Hyper V VSS writer displays the following error message

On the Hyper V VMMS admin log entries similar to the following is listed with event ID 10111. Please note that the entry I m posting here is related to the SBS VM I can see entries for the other VM as well.

Failed to mount the virtual hard disk '\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy2303\Hyper-V\SBS2011\Virtual Hard Disks\SBS2011.vhd' for virtual machine 'SBS2011' (Virtual machine ID C093E570-411D-41E9-A187-FC4303A57A4A).

SBS2011.VHD is mounted as the C drive on the SBS VM and this is a fixed size VHD.This is a 200 GB VHD and 102 GB of free disk space remains on the VHD.

SBS backup is getting written to a physical pass through disk and its getting completed without any issues. SBS backup starts and gets completed few hours before the Hyper V backup starts. All the VSS writers are stable on the SBS VM and the only VSS /SPP related warning message (No Errors) on the SBS is as follows.

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Failed resolving account spsearch with status 1376. Check connection to domain controller and VssAccessControl registry key.

Operation:

   Initializing Writer

Context:

   Writer Class Id: {4dc3bdd4-ab48-4d07-adb0-3bee2926fd7f}

Error-specific details:

I don’t think it has any connection because this warning is listed on the days when the Hyper V backup gets successfully completed.

There are no VSS/SPP errors/warnings on the Hyper V application log.

If we reboot the Hyper V server (thus rebooting the SBS server) then we can go for about a week or so without any further failures.

Would really appreciate if someone can assist us on this in order to find a permanent resolution .

I'm playing around with Windows Storage Server and Hyper-V and I just want to make sure I understand this.  I have WSS 2012.  If I go to make an iSCSI target for storage, it's just creating a VHD on the WSS box, as far as I can tell.

Now I also have an older Hyper-V server running Server 2008 Enterprise x64 Core.  I want to store one or more of my Hyper-V guests on the WSS server.  The articles I've found on this say to basically create a lettered drive in the host OS pointing to the iSCSI target and then just do the Hyper-V part like normal, setting the storage to that particular drive letter.

So effectively, this is putting my Hyper-V VHD file into a WSS VHD file?  Seems like Hyper-V should have a way to just directly use that iSCSI target without involving the host OS, especially considering that the target is already a VHD file.

Am I missing something?  I feel like I'm missing something.

I am setting up a new HyperV machine and am running with VM2 (running Windows MultiPoint Server) seeing the Active Directory services of VM2 (Server 2012 Essentials).  What I have found in trying to narrow down the problem are the following:

- the VMs can ping each other by host name

- the VMs can browse folder by host name

- I was able to get VM2 to join the domain, when I setup the virtual switch manager with an internal switch connection, I was not able to perform that task when they both had external access via NIC 1

- VM2 can sign in with network credentials, when using the Internal virtual switch, but not external

- both machines have Internet access, via the local LAN, when point to the external network (NIC1)

I am at a loss as to why VM2 cannot see the active directory service of VM1 when using the external settings of the HyperV switch.  I have recreated this switch port a view times.

after adding the role in win server 2012 i create a domaine name: test.local

in my client I m trying to add the domaine in system properties i am entering in domain test.local

I would like to discuss with you Hyper-V and USB NIC. I have installed Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V role and USB 3.0 NIC ASIX AX88179. When it is just plugged in to the server it works fine. But I have to use it with Hyper-V. I have created new virtual network which is linked to this USB NIC. Then I added this new virtual network to VM. After configuration of IP it worked fine - but just for a few hours. After few ours I had to disable/enable that NIC on server and it again starts working - just for a few hours and it is happening again and again and again. 

Would you please advise me?

Server 2012 with Hyper-V role

I used to get the "required privilege is not held" error prior when the Hyper-V Administrators didn't have full access rights to the new location (D:\Hyper-V) as well as the GPO for creating symbolic links. Yet for some reason, I continually have to force GPO update whenever I want to import a VM and then it will work. (this is a side issue that might be related)

Main issue for this thread: When trying to start a snapshot of any VM (Win7 or 2012R2), I get the title error each and every time: "Snapshot failed to save RAM contents during a snapshot operation. A required privilege is not held by the client."

I've reapplied the GPO and still nothing. I double checked Hyper-V Administrators has full control of D:\Hyper-V and all sub folders. Still nothing. Now I'm also seeing a snapshot file for EACH AND EVERY time I tried to create a snapshot!!! Yet the Hyper-V Manager doesn't show any snapshots running. I can't delete those files as the VM won't start if I do. So it IS starting a snapshot, yet for some reason I can't stop them.

I have DELL Md 3600F storage connected with Two Rack server which is having dual FC card . We dont have any FC switch in beween storage and Server conenctvity.  Please let me know if Hyper-v host can be cluster First and than can i configure Two virtual Machine to run SQL cluster on top of it.

Base is Hyper-v Cluster and than Windows Guest Os cluster to configure SQL cluster. Both will be two node.

We have a 2008 R2 cluster, consisting of 3 nodes, which runs our Hyper V environment.

I recently rebuilt the first node, and i am now trying to add the node back into the cluster, but receiving errors when validating the cluster.

When trying to add the node back into the cluster it initially tells me that the servers selected for the cluster have hardware or hardware settings that are not suitable for clustering.

I then continue with the validation test and receive a red cross against Storage. If i select storage the error is against:

Validate SCSI device vital product data (VPD)

When i select the option above, there are many errors such as:

SCSI page 83h VPD descriptors for cluster disk 1 and 2 match

SCSI page 83h VPD descriptors for cluster disk 1 and 3 match

SCSI page 83h VPD descriptors for cluster disk 1 and 4 match

And so on.

Any ideas ?
