Hi
I hope you guys can help me with this problem. We have a Windows 2008 Ent. R2 installed over one HP BL460c G7 with NC553i (Emulex chipset). The server is connected to two Nexus 5000 with VPC through a pair of Virtual Connect Flex10. The server has two NFT teamings with preference order. First teaming carries VM production traffic and is connected to the first pair o Flex Nics handling Vlans. Each nic works as a physical nic (virtual connect emulation). This first pair os nics are connected to two 802.1q tunnel vnet. The second pair is connected to two VC shared uplink set that contains a set of vnets with their corresponding vlan association. This second pair doesn´t handle vlans as it are connected as access devices. I provide the environment info as a plus, but we don´t think this is the real problem. Everything is updated to the latest version available.
Let´s go with the tests. We have tried the high availability of the system, shutting down several cisco ports to ensure the teamings works as expected. All the tests were succesfull but those tests that involves the HyperV switch. I explain it deeply. If we try to ping the hyper-v host using a teaming that is NOT connected to one hyper-v switch it works perfectly. We remove a port, the team software changes the path and everything goes on. If we do the same test connecting an hyper-v switch to this team but we dont try to handle Vlan tags in the hyper-v switch it works smoothly. If we try to do the same test using a VM placed over the host and connected to the same hyperv switch or we try to make the server to handle vlans, it doesn´t work. We have noticed that is an arp issue since Virtual Connect doesn´t update the arp table until we force to send some packets from the vm. In the test we have also notice that we can get a mix of both situations. I mean, if we don´t use vlans in the hyper-v switch and we try to communicate via ping with the host and the vm, after the team change, the server works and the vm fails until manually we send traffic from it.
The funny side is we have a clone, almost exact, same hardware, same VC, same Hyper-V release and it works fine. The only differences are the windows version, datacenter vs enterprise, the network hardware HP IRF networking vs Cisco Nexus 5k VPC and the weather cloudy vs sunny..... I´m sure there should be anything else that have to be different.
I hope someone can help me. Any comment is more than welcome.
Thanks in advance.
