Joining Hyper-V 2012 Servers to a Virtualized Domain Controller

I am in the process of setting up two new Hyper-V Server 2012 hosts, the plan is to use one to host 4 server guest operating systems and to use the other for replication. I plan on installing a domain controller as one of the Hyper-V Guests and my question is whether or not it is safe to join the Hyper-V Server hosts to the domain when the domain controller is running as a guest on the Hyper-V Server itself.

From what I can gather administration of the Hyper-V Servers will be much easier if they are joined to the domain, however I am not sure if this will work since the domain controller would obviously be unavailable to the Hyper-V Host at start-up.

I know that best practice would be to have another physical domain controller for the network, and in the long run that is my goal, however the hardware I would like to use for that is a production server running ESXi now, once my migration to Hyper-V is complete I will be able to repurpose that server, but that may be some months down the road.

Would the best practice be to join the Hyper-V hosts to the domain or leave them in a Workgroup?

Thanks in advance.
