Windows Server 2012: Need help with Virtual Server NIC and Virtual Switch setup alongwith the IP subnetting.

Hello All,

I am doing setup in test environment. Host Fujitsu TX100 Quad Core Processor, 32 GB RAM having windows server 2012 with Hyper-V role installed.

It has 2 NICs. One is dedicated to host another for Virtual Machines.

I have created two VMs. Both are windows Sever 2012 on them.

I created External virtual switch from Hyper-V manager. Added both VMs to this Virtual switch.

Current IP settings for host:

IP:192.168.1.10 mask: 255.255.255.0 gateway:192.168.1.1

Current IP settings on VM1:

IP:192.168.1.53 mask: 255.255.255.0 gateway:192.168.1.1

Current IP settings on VM2:

IP:192.168.1.54 mask: 255.255.255.0 gateway:192.168.1.1

Current IP settings on Vswitch(External Virtual Switch):

IP: 192.168.1.52 mask: 255.255.255.0 gateway:192.168.1.10

The internet on the VMs work with this IP configuration. But when I try to use different sub-net internet connectivity lost on both VMs. I have also installed Routing and Remote Access role on host server.

I am trying to use following sub-net:

on host: 192.168.1.x/24

on VM1: 10.10.1.0/24(don't know if this mask will work)

on VM2: 10.10.2.0/24

I want to know if I am using different sub-nets for VMs what additional resources must be there? What should be the IP configuration on Virtual switch?

What should be default gateway for both VMs in this case?Basically I want to access internet on VMs in External virtual environment having different sub-nets.

I know I am making some mistakes but I am not able to figure out where!!!

Please guide me.

Thanks,

kuldeep
