Question about connecting virtual server to internet

Hey everyone, glad to be here. I'm having some trouble with Hyper-V so I figured Microsoft Technet would be the best place to humbly ask for some help.

So I've been trying to set up a few virtual servers on Microsoft Server 2016 Desktop Experience on a dedicated server I have, I've been troubleshooting for two days but I can't seem to figure out what on earth is the issue. This is what I've done so far:

  1. Set up External vSwitch to my ethernet connection.
  2. Create new virtual server, Generation 2, with basic parameters for resource usage.
  3. Assigning vSwitch to the server, disabling secure boot, beginning install.
  4. Checked Network and Sharing Center to ensure my external vswitch is properly connected to the internet.
  5. Assigned ipv6 address to the server. I did notice that DHCPv6 through Server Manager refuses to automatically assign an address to the server, so I manually set the address and subnet. After this step, the installation does not connect at all.
  6. Attempted to assign address after creation using the distro's network config utilities, to no avail.

At first I thought this was the result of the linux distro itself but through my troubleshooting and different distros tried, I've noticed across all boards that ipv6 is not assigned and manually setting it both after creation and during install does not work properly, the virtual server just will not connect to the network. I have a feeling this is a problem with Hyper-V, DHCP, my configuration, the virtual switch, or a mixture of the 4. I just can't pinpoint what is going on here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
