Curious what everyone's best practices are when it comes to installing software within a VM with Hyper-V.. in the past i've broken the guest into at least two vhd's.. one for C (os) and the other for D (for server installs, like exchange, etc)..
All my vhds and vhdx's are on a raid10 array (or they will be as i'm creating our 4th hyper-v host).. as an aside i'm moving away from raid5/6 and heading off to do sas3 2TB 7200 rpm drives on a raid10 array
(8 drives total, for 8TB usable)..
Also thinking its worthwhile to break the raid array into separate data volumes rather than one big one.. as i could have some for replication from other hosts or maybe divide the load in case a volume (not the array) fails.
So moving forward into the future with new guest server builds.. and vhdx's.. i'm wondering if there is really any value in doing this at this point, breaking them into two vhdx's rather than one, aside from maybe logistics and file separation?
Thanks in advance
