Error in Hyper-V Manager Settings -> Security - "There was an error loading the data for this setting."

Hello,

we've discovered the following error in Hyper-V Manager Settings under security:

Load Failed

"There was an error loading the data for this setting."

Propery 'BindToHostTpm' does not exist in class 'Msvm_SecuritySettingData'.

In our environment we use a Hyper-V Cluster with Windows Server 2016 Nodes and created for Administration purposes two VMs in the cluster besides all the other ones. The first one is running Windows Server 2019 and there we got this problem in Hyper-V Manager and Failover-Cluster Manager, but not since the VM is running WS2019, so it probably happens trough an Windows Update, because the second VM was running WS2016 and there wasn't such an error after we upgraded it to WS2019 the mentioned error appeared.

When we connect directly to one of the Hyper-V Nodes it shows the information under Security just fine and also on the second VM, after we applied the Snapshot we've created before we upgraded it to WS2019.

Does anyone know this issue and is there a way to fix it?

Enabling Replication - GUI stuck in a loop

I've configured Hyper-V replication between two clusters using replication brokers on both sides.

When configuring replication for a VM the gui is stuck in a loop on the first screen (Specify Replica Server). After entering the fqdn of the replica server the "Verifying configuration" popup flashes in what appears to be an infinite loop.

I can successfully configure replication using powershell, but I'd like to get the GUI working too.

Anyone have an idea on how to troubleshoot this?
Thx in advance - M.

0xC004FD03 when trying to activate windows 2016 on 2012 R2 Datacenter Hyper-V

Hi all,

I've got the following problem. I'm running a Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Hyper-V Cluster with 2 servers. I installed a Windows 2016 Standard VM on this cluster. When I try to activate the server I get the error code 0xC004FD03.

We don't use a KMS server.

What I've tried already

- Use the standard AVMA codes (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn303421(v=ws.11).aspx?f=255&mspperror=-2147217396#Anchor_3)

- try to active from command line (slmgr)

- Installed all updates on the Hyper-V Hosts

Any suggestions?

Virtual Machines not auto starting on Server 2016 std

Hello

I have a host server running 2 VMs which do not auto start on reboot of host.

Host has 64GB RAM and the VMs have 16GB RAM each.

All VMs have integration services enabled.

Started delay - 0

Set to save state on shutdown of host

Auto start if it was already on.

Event log shows this:

An error occurred while performing server startup action for virtual machine.

I can restart the VMs with no problem its only when the host is rebooted.

Simulating power failure in VM

I'm working on power failure consistency. This is very hard to test and debug for what should be obvious reasons.

Running my code in a VM helps because I can hit the "power off" button on the Hyper-V management window frame. However, that doesn't allow me to specify where in my code I want the power failure event to occur, which is what I really need.

Is there a way in a VM to tell the hypervisor to simulate a power failure, i.e., do the same thing as hitting the "stop" button, at a specific point in code? Maybe executing a particular illegal instruction would do it?

If not, that would be a wonderful addition to Hyper-V because it would make testing power failure scenarios much easier.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Terminating a Planned Failover

Hello,

I'm running two identically configured Dell PowerEdge R740 servers running Server 2019.  M1-HV is the primary and M2-HV is the replica server.  I was recently in the course of doing some Planned Failovers for test purposes.  The process for initiating the planned failover (1.) shut down VM on M1-HV (2.) Select 'Planned Failover' from the Replication menu seems well documented and seems to work quite smoothly.  However the process for ending a Planned Failover session seems less well documented.

I would have thought the process would be the same as above, only initiated from the M2-HV (which is now functioning as the primary server).  However when I initiate this action, the Planned Failover always fails at the step "Fail over to Replica Server".  After this step fails, a pop-up appears stating "Could not complete all tasks for failover", "All pending data has been replicated.  Access the virtual machine on the Replica Server and choose the Failover task in the Replication menu to complete the process."

After the above failure occurs, if I go back to M1-HV and check the Replication menu on the VM in question, there is now an option, "Reverse Replication" that was not there before the above failure.  If I step through the Reverse Replication wizard from this menu, and then start the VM, I am once again back to the initial state of where M1-HV is functioning as the primary server for this VM and it is replicating to M2-HV.

However, this cannot be the preferred method for reversing a Planned Failover event.  Can someone advise me what the correct procedure is?

Thank You,

Dale

Upgrading Hyper-V 2008 R2 Core to 2012 R2

I'm trying to upgrade a Hyper-V 2008 R2 core to 2012 R2 Core since I know there's not a direct path to 2016. I've downloaded an .ISO file from MS that I believe is the Core version of 2012 R2. During the setup process, I elect to upgrade instead of the custom solution which I believe will install a fresh copy of the product. I then get a message that informs me that I can't upgrade the version I'm running which again is the Core version.

My question is if I decide to install a fresh instance of 2012 R2 core (or 2016 at that matter), can I (manually) restore my VMs in the newer version? Other than backing up the VHDs and XML files, is there anything else I need to successfully restore them? Would using the import process work in this case once the new version is up and running? Or worse case, could I make note of the key VMs settings and rebuild the VM with the same settings and point to the existing VHD from 2008 R2?

The environment that I'm working with is not a production environment but there are some VMs that I don't want to rebuild from scratch. All of my VMs are located on the D drive which is different from the installation drive.

Thanks in advance for your help.

High ping latency on Windows Server 2012 virtual machine on Hyper-v

Hello team,

I've been experienced an issue that is affected the performance of my environment. I have the following scenario:

1 - Server Dell R720

1 - SAN DELL MD3220i

1 - Switch Cisco 3750G

As the picture shows, I just have a switch, I'm pretty know that the recommended setting is with two switches, however I just have one of them. A personal of Cisco has configured this device with different vlan's so that means that the connection between the storage and the host works so nice.

The problem is the latency that the virtual machines are experiencing. I have Windows Server 2012 and I'm using Hyper-v to virtualize my virtual machines.

Does anyone know which parameters May I need to modify, enable or disable on Windows Server 2012 - Hyper V to work fine?

I would appreciate your help in this regard!

Thank you in advance!

Regards,

Paul Mendoza.

Hi all,

New to this community, not sure if the similar question has been asked before.

So, I have created 2 VM Win 2016 server in HyperV and both are connected to the External Network with router IP address 10.10.10.3

I have set the VM1's ip address to 10.10.10.201 and another to 10.10.10.202.

But seems like in the server manager, they can not detect each other.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

vmswitch.sys BSOD on Server 2019 AzureStack HCI Dell ReadyNodes

We have 3 Dell R740xd ready nodes that keep crashing.

They are all Win server 2019 LTSC on the June patch level and driers are at the Dell AzureStack HCI support Matrix levels.

Originally, we has a SET Team configured with 2 NIC members that handled management OS, Vswitch, and SMB traffic.

Now, we are trying to migrate the SMB S2D traffic over to separate NICs.  Those are configured but when we disable the virtual SMB adapters the system will bsod if the physical members of the SE Team are connected to the switch.

On Premise HyV replication questions

Hello Team,

We want to explore in Hyper-V replication on Advanced level. Following are the question::

1) As we have option of selecting  recovery point in Azure VM replication can do we same on-premise Hyper-V replication

2) Can we monitor Hyper-V replication at granular level where we can see our which last replication point was successful.

3) Even after VM failover can we able see which are best replication point we have.

Would like to know is it possible on on-premise Hyper-V replication. If Yes would like to have steps or free tools to achieve it.

Deleting Recovery Snapshots Failed due to Invalid State

$

Hello,

I have a 4 node Hyper-V 2019 cluster running a decent number of VMs.

When trying to remove some snapshots that Hyper-V left behind from a backup I get the following error:

  Deleting 'SNAPSHOTNAME - (M/D/YYYY - 8:18:20 PM)' failed.
The operation cannot be performed while the object is in its current state.    + CategoryInfo          : InvalidOperation: (:) [Remove-VMSnapshot], VirtualizationException    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : InvalidState,Microsoft.HyperV.PowerShell.Commands.RemoveVMSnapshot    + PSComputerName        : HOST

Searching online the only help I found was to create a new snapshot and then export the VM from that.  Then delete the original and import the exported copy.  I would prefer to avoid that if possible as some of these VMs are quite large.  They are still operational just cannot clean up these specific snapshots.  I was able to remove a bunch of standard non-recovery snapshots without any issues.

Azure Site Recovery with Hyper-V: Error 0x8079FFFF

$

Hello!

I have a customer who has been replicating three VM's to Azure Site Recovery for a few years.  A week ago the replication stopped working - Azure showed the Hyper-V server was disconnected and I when trying to update the Azure Vault keys on the Hyper-V Server I was getting an error message about the keys not being the correct type.  After finding very little information on the web regarding the specific error I decided to disable the replication on Azure and followed these steps (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/site-recovery/site-recovery-manage-registration-and-protection) on the Hyper-V Server to manually disable replication of the VM's.  Hyper-V Manager showed that the VM's were no longer being replicated.

So I re-added the Hyper-V Server to Azure, installed the Microsoft Azure Recovery Services Agent & Microsoft Azure Site Recovery Provider in addition to the Azure keys on the Hyper-V Server.  Azure then could see the Hyper-V Server and VM's and I thought I was good to go.

However, when I try to start the replication from Azure, I get an error message "Protection couldn't be enabled",  The details show:

Error ID70094
Error Message Protection couldn't be enabled for the virtual machine.
Provider error Provider error code: 31343

Provider error message:
The operation failed with the error: Enable replication failed for virtual machine 'XXXX'. Service returned an error. (Error Code '8079ffff'). (Virtual Machine ID 7e2bd32e-a5e2-4812-838e-3ca66792e282, Data Source ID 17593282809274, Task ID 09022f76-3239-4ae3-b064-b77dce2d0477)

I looked on the Hyper-V Server (in various Event Logs) and can't find any further detail other than the 0x8079ffff error code shown above.  I get this same error whether I am trying to replicate one of the VM's which had previously been replicating or a new VM which hadn't been replicating to Azure previously.

Does anyone have any suggestions for where I should look?

Thanks!  Dave

My NICs 1Gb are direct connect  at 2 node server for only live migration network with different subnet with another connection (192.168.xx.xx)

Is there any way to improve this?
