Error in Hyper-V Manager Settings -> Security - "There was an error loading the data for this setting."

Hello,

we've discovered the following error in Hyper-V Manager Settings under security:

Load Failed

"There was an error loading the data for this setting."

Propery 'BindToHostTpm' does not exist in class 'Msvm_SecuritySettingData'.

In our environment we use a Hyper-V Cluster with Windows Server 2016 Nodes and created for Administration purposes two VMs in the cluster besides all the other ones. The first one is running Windows Server 2019 and there we got this problem in Hyper-V Manager and Failover-Cluster Manager, but not since the VM is running WS2019, so it probably happens trough an Windows Update, because the second VM was running WS2016 and there wasn't such an error after we upgraded it to WS2019 the mentioned error appeared.

When we connect directly to one of the Hyper-V Nodes it shows the information under Security just fine and also on the second VM, after we applied the Snapshot we've created before we upgraded it to WS2019.

Does anyone know this issue and is there a way to fix it?

Hyper-V Fails to Install During Required Restart (Win 10)

I just updated my Win 10 install from Home to Pro but I cannot for the life of me get Hyper-V installed on the machine. I know the upgrade worked because the option shows up in the install features window.

I am at a loss I've tried installing the options separately but no luck. All of the Hyper-V features can be installed except the Hyper-V Services under the Hyper-V Platform list.

IDK if anyone knows something or can give me some troubleshooting steps that would be awesome.

Thanks

EDIT: It also doesn't want to install the Virtual Machine Platform feature either.

Also just a note, I don't have any other VM software installed and if I did I had uninstalled it as best I could.

CTRL ALT DELETE does not work from Hyper-V Console

I  have a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 VHD that was created and running on a Windows 2008 R2 Standard machine for some time with no issues.  Last night I shut down the guest os and copied the vhd to a new Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise server.  Now everything seems fine except for CTRL ALT DELETE using the Hyper-V console.  I am able to rdp in.  Other guests on the same server are working as expected.  I have read many of the other posts and none really seem to fit our issue.  Any suggestions?

Hyper-V VM Generation 2 - How to boot from .ISO

Hi guys,

Server OS: Windows Server 2012 R2

I have a VM Gen2 with following settings:

I can boot fine from the same .iso from a Gen1 VM so the .iso is bootable.

I know that the Gen2 VM uses SCSI instead of IDE, but I have no clue regarding how to boot from the .iso..

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,

Kenny

Hyper-V Virtual Switch assigns itself 169.254.xx address (APIPA)

Greetings,

I have a 2012 R2 Hyper-V host server running in my environment. There are 4 physical network connections on the host. Out of these 4 connections, 1 connection is for the Host itself (management) & the remaining 3 are for the Virtual machines (each is coming from different vlans).  Typical Hyper-V setup if you want to call it.

The interface dedicated for Management has a static ip-address assigned to it from our management vlan. The remaining 3 ntwk connections/adapters do not have any static ip's assigned & are being converted into virtual switches so that they can be attached to the VM's.  We don't need to assign any static ip's to these nics because these are used only by the VM's .

If i run a "ipconfig /all" on the Host , these 3 virtual network adapters show up with 169.254.xxx ip-address (APIPA).  How can we disable these APIPA addresses from the virtual network adapters?  These APIPA are generating unnecessary traffic events which our network IDS is catching.  We know it is safe traffic but how can configure the virtual switches to not assign themselves these private ips ?  If it can be done, what is the general recommendation ?

The below 2 solutions did not work.

1) Modifying the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

create D-Word IPAutoconfigurationEnabled should be 0 for disabled 1 for enabled.

(neither it works if I create this in all the adapters that belongs to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces)

2) Vía netsh:

 netsh interface ipv4 set interface 11 dadtransmits=0 store=persistent

 (described in http://the-it-wonders.blogspot.com.es/2013/04/autoconfiguration-ipv4-address-196254xx.html)

Thank you in advance

Activating 2 VMs with a Windows Server 2019 Standard Host

Hi,

We have a handful of servers here running 2012r2 and 2016 Standard.  Everything is on OEM licensing, not volume licensing.  We do not have software assurance.  I would like to purchase a new Windows Server 2019 Standard server from a vendor which will come with an OEM license for 2019 Standard, then use it as a Hyper-V host for two Windows Server 2016 Standard VMs.  Being that we will not have Datacenter edition with Automatic Virtual Machine Activation, how do I licence and activate the 2 VMs?  I believe that the 2019 host OEM key would activate the two VMs if I were doing 2019 VMs, but what about 2016 VMs?  Thanks.

Hyper-v Gen 2 VM to VMware

Hi Team,

I am trying to migrate the Hyper-V Generation 2 VM (windows server 2016, 2019 OS) to VMWare. I have used StarWind and Vmware Vcenter converter standalone apps to convert to VMDK files and imported them to WorkStation. The VMs are fine, connected, and looks good when I selected Firmware type as UEFI. However when I Changed to firmware type to BIOS it failing to load the "Operating system not found".  I am wondering do we have any solution to work as BIOS in WorkStation or change to firmware type as BIOS in Hyper-v generation VM.

Thanks

Networking & Hyper-V Replication Through VPN Tunnel - Disaster Recovery

$

Want to setup a DR site. Here is my setup. Different WANs

Site 1:
Sonicwall VPN tunnel to site 2
Hyper-V replicating following 3 VM servers; DC, FSRV, SQL.
192.168.82.0/24

DC does DHCP and DNS. DNS is used through vpn tunnel

Site 2:
Sonicwall VPN tunnel to site 1
Replication is currently working from servers from site 1.
192.168.70.0/24
Sonicwall runs DHCP for this site and subnet. DNS is from DC through VPN tunnel.
If site 1 goes down, how can I make site 2 the primary in regards to networking?

Issue with Hyper V server 2019 accessing new VM

I installed Hyper V server 2019 and created a Win10 VM using WIndows Admin Center.   I try to Connect to the VM and I can't get past the login/password.  The administrator login and password doesn't work so what am I supposed to be using to log into the new VM I set up?  So frustrating and I'm sure it's something dumb I'm missing.

VMConnect Permissions Windows 10

I have successfully created a virtual drive in Windows 10 using HyoerV

When I try to run VMConect via the command prompt I get this:-

"You do not have the required permission to complete this task.

Contact the administrator of the authorisation policy for the pc"

even though I have administration rights on the pc.

What do I need to change to fix this?

I just want to change the display size on the VM on my pc.

On Hyper-V 2016 I'm getting this for just one of the virtual machines. When I have try to create a checkpoint, I have noticed, will show up event id 12347 on event viewer as well.

below is a troubleshoot steps which I have done so far,

>Disabling and re-enabling checkpoint but didn't have a any luck.

>checked integration service status on a host machine by running below command

Get-VMIntegrationService -VMName cdcmon01 | where Name -eq VSS

>checked the COM+ Event System service on effected PC and Host

Start-up set to Automatic and status is running

>checked volume shadow copy service on effected PC and Host

Start-up set to Manual and status is running

Event ID 12347:

Hyper-V manager wont start

Hyper-V Manager service will not start.

You click start service and get "You might not have permission to perform this task."

I have also went to services and tried to start and get an error there and it wont start.

These VM's have been running fine for years and no changes have been made.

Enabling Replication - GUI stuck in a loop

I've configured Hyper-V replication between two clusters using replication brokers on both sides.

When configuring replication for a VM the gui is stuck in a loop on the first screen (Specify Replica Server). After entering the fqdn of the replica server the "Verifying configuration" popup flashes in what appears to be an infinite loop.

I can successfully configure replication using powershell, but I'd like to get the GUI working too.

Anyone have an idea on how to troubleshoot this?
Thx in advance - M.

Windows 2016 Virtual machine stuck at shutting down or restarting

Windows 2016 Virtual machine is having difficulty of shutting down (restarting).  It will be stuck at restarting, or shutting down for hours, or overnight..  and never came back.

Host Windows 2016 server data center:

some facts:

1. VMs with other OS (windows 2012, 2008 etc) on the same host (with same vswitch) do not have any problems.

2.  Windows 2016 VMs are working fine immediately after OS install with no added role/feature, no windows update.  (clean OS)

3.  Problems appeared after a few minutes of running,  (nothing added)

Anyone has similar issues?

Hi i have a Windows XP VM on a windows 10 pro system , on 1703 it ran fine but after windows 10 decided to upgrade to 1709 it now runs extremely slow and also the clock is loosing time.

The Host speed is fine I5-7500 , 8Gb ram and before 1709 installed itself there were no issues.

I have reinstalled hyper-v and the virtual switch but it has not helped

Disabled dynamic memory and set it to 4Gb ram.

Any suggestions would be appreciated
