VM Cluster Validate Disk Failover Error

0
0

I am trying to set up a cluster of a couple of VMs but whenever I run the Validate Configuration, the "Validate Disk Failover" test fails.  The message in the report is "Node SQLNode1.mydomain.com holds the SCSI PR on Test Disk 0 and brought the disk online, but failed in its attempt to write file data to partition table entry 1. The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable."

The configuration of the two machines is the same with a local C drive and 3 iSCSI drives that are to be shared.  From what I can gather from the directions I can find, I have set everything up correctly, but it still won't work.  Both machines are 2012 running on a 2012 host.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Bert

Windows 2012 R2 Cluster Fails

Hi All,

I've been running Hyper-v failover cluster with two-node, and kept having fail-over issues. When I investigated I found that both nodes were almost simultaneously logging this "informational" message:

Log Name: System

Event ID: 4201

Description: Isatap interface isatap.{0641D3E0-A625-4A6C-8978-00EDB13F5376} is no longer active.

Immediately after this message the cluster would fail, causing the databases to failover. About 5 seconds after that this message would get logged:

Log Name: System

Event ID: 4200

Description: Isatap interface isatap.{B1103C13-7B25-43C6-BD5A-BFBD28C90B3F} with address fe80::5efe:169.254.1.230 has been brought up.

Poked around for a bit but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I couldn't tell what was triggering the failure, or why this could be occurring…and what the hell is this adapter that keeps flapping and then coming back up.

Please suggest..

The miniport 'Microsoft Virtual Machine Bus Network Adapter' disconnected.

Hi, I have two HP DL380's each running Server 2008 R2 and the Hyper-V role. Each Hyper-V server has a single VM which is also running Server 2008 R2 (the two VM's are nodes in an SQL cluster). Today I noticed the SQL service had failed across from Node1 to Node2, looking in the System Event Log I noticed the nics on Node1 had disconnected with the following error-

The miniport 'Microsoft Virtual Machine Bus Network Adapter' disconnected.

This is then followed by the other three nics on the node disconnecting. After 3 minutes the disconnected nics will reconnect however by that time the system has failed over to Node2. Looking in the Event Logs on the physical host server I'm not seeing any network connectivity errors during the period the virtual Node is having issues..

The Event ID is 9 and the source is NETVSC

I noticed there is a patch for a similar issue available for people seeing their adapters "hang" when hosting Windows 2003 VM's but it's not quite the same situation for us, our nodes are "disconnecting" and the O/S is 2008 R2. Both nodes have the Hyper-V integration services installed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Adam.

File VHD is always growing

Hi All,

I have  Hyper-V windows server 2008 R2 with 2 virtual server installed.

Vhd file of one virtual server is always growing whereas there was no file growth in the virtual server,  so I always compact the vhd, but the vhd file will grow again.. again.. again...

How to know what the cause?

Note: Before I already ask this topic to windows forum --> https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/id-ID/12ee3755-c600-4244-8bfc-e360847f6e30/file-vhd-is-always-growing?forum=virtualserver

DST bug with Hyper-V

I noticed that over DST this weekend that at approximately 8PM CDT on Saturday November 5th, that the time for my last replication completed rolled back an hour (IE if it was currently 9:02 PM, it would show that replication completed less than 5 minutes ago, but it was last completed at 8:01 PM). It appears that the clock for the Hyper-V Replications rolled back at 2 AM UTC and not when the host system's time zone hit 2 AM.

I observed this on Windows Server 2012 Standard.

Thanks!

Hyper-V Manager with non-domain admin

Hello,

I am testing Hyper-V for the first time.  I have two Hyper-V 2016 free server setup and I am trying to manage it from Windows 10.  I have Hyper-V management tools and all Remote Server Administration Tools installed.  I can connect to both servers with Hyper-V Manager as long as I run as a domain admin account.  I would like to connect with a standard user.

I added the account I want to use to the Hyper-V Administrators group on both servers.  The servers and PC are all joined to the same domain.  The domain is 2008 (I will be updating soon) so I do not have Hyper-V administrators at the domain level. I thought adding the user to this group should be the only thing necessary, but I still cannot connect.

Thank you for your help!

Questions about running several Windows 7 Pro guest VMs on Windows Server 2012 R2 / UPS Worldship

We have a need to have 4 laptops connect to remote sessions on our Windows 2012 R2 server.  This is due to the software that they need to run being database-driven, and very susceptible to wireless connectivity issues.  At first, we went the Remote Desktop Services route, but found that one solution (UPS Worldship) does not like to be run on one system under multiple sessions.  So we're thinking of maybe instead running four guest VMs instead, all with Windows 7 Pro SP1.  Each laptop would connect remotely to its own assigned VM.  Some concerns I have with this:

1. Would regular Windows 7 Pro licenses (not OEM) work to activate each Windows 7 instance under this scenario?  Or are there licensing issues?

2. Any issue with Integration Services?  I'd like to be able to connect to each VM from the console without RDP.

3. Any other issues with this idea that I am not forseeing?  Our R2 server has 128GB RAM and 32 logical processors, so parceling out resources should not be an issue.

If anyone else has dealt with running UPS Worldship under these circumstances, any advice would be appreciated.  UPS says that they can't do Remote Desktop Services, but I'm wondering if anyone has found otherwise.

Thanks!

Windows 10 Hyper-V 4kn Support?

Does Hyper-V on Windows 10 support 4k native drives?  I'm about to make a pretty big purchase and I'm wondering if I'll have trouble with 4kn drives rather than getting the 512e ones.  Thanks.

Host machine loses internet connection with external switch created

Hello,

I'm running Windows 10 Pro and I have a really weird problem with Hyper-V and external switch created for WiFi adapter. Just after creating it works fine. However, after a couple of days I'm unable to access internet on host/virtual machines via external switch. If I delete bridge directly in Control Panel/Network Connections or delete switch via Hyper-V manager - internet works OK on host machine (and obviously doesn't work on VMs). Sometimes just disabling/enabling bridge in Network Connections does the trick but most of the time I have to recreate Virtual Switch.

In Hyper-V -> Virtual Switch manager I have two other connections - one internal (Windows Phone Emulator Internal Switch for Windows Mobile Emulator) and one more external for Ethernet adapter. Both WiFi and Ethernet external switches have checkbox "Allow management operating system to share this network adapter" checked.

Does anyone know what I may be doing wrong?

Same Version but cannot connect

Hi!

I have multiple windows 2012 R2 Hyper-V servers with version number 6.3.9600.16384. I am able to connect to some of them from my Windows 10 Hyper-V Console but others are showing the below error

"An error occurred while attempting to connect to server. Check that the virtual machine management service is running and that you are authorized to connect to the server.

Hyper-V encountered an error trying to access an object on computer because the object was not found. The object might have been deleted. Verify that the Virtual Machine Management service on the computer is running."

Thanks.

Running dual bootable operating system like linux with Hyper-V using disk partition

Dear sisters/brothers in  technical excellency.

I have Windows 10 machine (I love it) as my main OS and then I have Ubuntu 16 LTS (I love it too) in another partition in my disk. I have Lenovo T460s and I have done so that

1) I can dual boot my machine with Windows EFI menu to Windows or Ubuntu.

2)I have also managed to turn off Hyper-V and use Oracle VirtualBox to run this Ubuntu from real partition without problems (with help of extra boot.iso) so that my main OS is Windows and slave system is Ubuntu.  Only situations when I need full CPU power, I boot it to Ubuntu.

Question: As a friend of Hyper-V and Windows docker, I would like to make same with Hyper-V, but no success? Can I run real hardisk partition (not whole disk) with Hyper-V as slave OS.

Is it possible at all?

We got plenty off EventID 12289 and 8193 How to get rid off them?

Hi,

We have some problem with error messages in our Clustered Scale Out File servers in combination with Clustered Hyper-V environment.

We have 2 SOFS cluster with 2 host each.

Each Server is configured  with 2 Volume with 16,9 TB

This Volume are shared in the Cluster as Cluster Shared Volumes

And this share are shared to Hyper-V cluster and on this Shares we have the VM:s

The problem (error messages ) we got on the SOFS Servers is following

EventID 12289:

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error while calling GetStorageDependencyInformation. hr = 0x8007048f, The device is not connected.

.

Operation:

  Automatically choosing a diff-area volume

  Processing EndPrepareSnapshots

Context:

  Execution Context: System Provider

Error-specific details:

Error: (0x8007048f) The device is not connected.

EventID 8193:

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error calling routine GetVolumePathName is fail on the path \\fasofs01.your.domain.com\vdisk01, winerror 0x0000007b.. hr = 0x8007007b, The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.

We got this error on every SOFS Host every day but different times.

And the amount off the error messages are different on the servers and the times too.

I have tried to find anything on the Internet but not find a good solution.

We use Veeam has a backup system and the backup seems to work from a Veeam perspective.

So what do we have to do to get rid of this errors

Error: Component reports path on volume which has been excluded + Error Code: 0x8100010F and 0x80780049.

then i decided to upgrade integration services on Exchange VM (Win Server 2012 + Exchange Server 2013 CU14 + Latest Updates Installed+ Integration Services 6.3.9600.18080). to do so i did "Action > Insert Integration Services Setup Disk" and installed Integration services.

Hyper-V Replication & Large Machine Observations

Hi All,

I have Oracle Unbreakable Linux 6.5 which runs Oracle ERP application & Database it has three VHDs 80 GB , 600 GB and 120 GB on daily basis it creates RMAN backup approx 32 GB which stores on 120 GB VHD.This VM has more READ operations and around 1 MB / 1 Mins Write Operation other than Backup.

I have enable Hyper-V Replication on this machine with 60 Sec Cycle Exclude 120 GB VHD where RMAN data places but i have found that replication is not going on normal.

I can see that hyper-V replication fully utilizing 4 MB to 5 MB.

My Question :

1.If i excluded 120 GB VHD and i have very little write operations on replicating drives so why replication is not normal

2.Is read operations have impact on replication

Dynamic disk not showing full size- only pre-expansion size

hi all.

I have a dynamic VHDX on a 2012 R2 server. this drive was originally 200GB maximum size, however I increased this to 250GB.

now, in the virtual machine, disk management/ diskpart still only shows the full size of the disk as 200GB. inspecting the VHDX file shows max size as 250 GB, but nothing in the VM is showing the correct size. I have no option to extend the logical partition. it's like the VHDX hasn't extended properly/ is corrupt?

Hopefully someone else has had this issue. please help! :)

Correct NTP settings for Hyper-V with PDC as guest

0
0

Hi!

I'm setting up a new domain including new servers. Currently all of them are running on one Hyper-V server.

The PDC is running on the Hyper-V host, which currently isn't in the domain. A couple of other 2016 servers are in the domain, where ntp-settings are automatically changed when joining the domain.

Although when running the following command on any guest (domain joined)

w32tm.exe /query /source

the result is

VM IC Time Synchronization Provider

Is this recommended? I'm also thinking about what will happen when I join the Hyper-V host to the domain, which is running in a VM on the host... NTP loop?

There are a lot of articles on this, I know, but some tell you to disable time sync in integration services, while some explicitly tells you to NOT EVER disable it due to drifting.

What do I do here? This is what makes somewhat sense to me:

  • Sync Hyper-V host to external NTP
  • Sync all VMs through Hyper-V host, including PDC to keep from drifting
  • Sync all physical computers to PDC

I would appreciate any thoughts on this.

Build Server in a healthy host using PS

Hello All,

I am building server using the below script .

Problem Statement: The server is not getting build in a healthy host at times.

Is there a mechanism , I can control the build using the Star rating of the hosts in a Cluster.

Any thoughts or anyone has implemented a kind of solution.

$cloud = Get-SCCloud -Name "MyCloud"
$CostCenter = "Lab"
$ServerName = "PriyaServer"
$Application = "Test"
            $Template = Get-SCVMTemplate -All | where  {$_.Name -eq "VMM_BASE_SOE_2012R2_ent" }
            $virtualMachineConfiguration = New-SCVMConfiguration -VMTemplate $template -Name "$ServerName" -CostCenter "$CostCenter"
            New-SCVirtualMachine -ComputerName "$ServerName" -Name "$ServerName"  -VMConfiguration $virtualMachineConfiguration -Cloud $cloud -Description "Priya Server"

please advice.

Server 2016 Hyper-V Virtual Machine Always Turns Off

0
0

If I try to restart a virtual machine, hyper-v always turns them off instead of rebooting.  I have to use the hyper-v manager to manually start every instance if a restart was issued within the VM.  It does not seem to matter what OS the VM is, it happens with Linux, server 2016 and 2012 R2 instances.

I notice an error:  'VM-****' could not reinitialize. (Virtual machine ID *******-****-****-****-************)

I thought at first it might be permissions but the hyper-v host is in an OU with blocked inheritance.

What might be causing VM's to fail to reinitialize?
