Hello All,

I have Test Environment which include 10 VM with Checkpoint.

Installed Hyper -V

Created 2 Private Switch

Name : Switch 1 = SW1 m Switch 2 = SW2

Created VM : Installed OS : Done Basic Configuration Task :

Then i take CHECKPOINT.

I can easily apply Checkpoint and get virgin Machine for Different LABS.

PROBLEM :

I Deleted OLD Private Switch.

Created New Private Switch with Different Naming Convention.

Virtual Machine LAN Adopter Says Configuration Error.

If Manually Assign New Adopter, i am able to start Machine.

But i have to do this after each time i apply checkpoint.

If i don't change network adopter setting, VM stuck at "STARTING" 10%

Is there any solution ?

How to resolve VSS "Non-Recoverable Error, The protocol version of the component installed in the virtual machine does not match..."

Am having issues with Windows Server Backup on a Windows Server 2012 R2 host when attempting to backup a Win 10 guest VM.  A Get-Integrationservice -VMName [VMName] returns this error.  Hyper-V on host reports that integration services version installed in guest OS is most current.  Even tried to create a new Hyper-V Win 10 VM from scratch and get the same error.

QuestionHere's the details of the error when Get-Integrationservice run from the WS2012R2 host on the Win 10 VM.  All guest services appear Enabled and OK except for VSS:

Can I give permissions to Connect to only certain VMs?

We have some training VMs that I want to allow the trainers to Connect to but I don't want them to be able to connect to anything else.  Is there any way to selectively give permission only to certain VMs?

I'd also want to use some sort of Powershell script to launch the Connection to these VMs.  Is there a way to do that as well?

Thanks.

Anyway to use Screen Scaling when connected to a VM?

If I go into Hyper-V or Failover Cluster Manager and I Connect directly to a VM, is there any way to set it so I can resize the window and have it shrink what I see so I still see everything but I jsut see it smaller?  I have a need to Connect to multiple VMs at once and I want to rearrange them on my screen so I can see 4 or 6 at once and just see them shrunken from their normal size.

Thanks.

Integration Services update required 2012R2 host and VM

Hi.

I have a pair of 2012R2 Datacenter Hyper-V hosts which I fully patched as of Thursday 23/06/16 running 2012R2 VMs also fully patched. After installing all the updates all VMs are reporting the integration services require an update.

However using get-vm it reports the services are 6.3.9600.16384 which I believe is the latest version.

Also under the Hyper-V integration service logs on the host it reports it has connected to the VMs and is running the latest version.

If I try and run the integration services installer it gets to installing guest services and then gives error 14101.

Have also updated another pair of servers running 2012R2 Datercenter as a Hyper-V failover cluster and they are showing the same behavior.

Anyone else seeing this?

Regards

James

Cannot identify which host a certain VM is connected to.

I have 1 server running Windows 2012 Standard (not R2).

This server is the only one that does not have the reg keys filled in here:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Virtual Machine\Guest\Parameters

Is there another way of identifying the host that this machine is connected to? Or is there a way of repairing this through an installation or update? (Boss prefers I not input the keys by hand for some reason)

(For clarity sake - I know which server it is connected to now by process of elimination, but I'd like to avoid this problem in the past and find another way to skin this cat)

0xc0000428 on VM when booting VM after Patching.

Hi

So I installed a couple of patches on our Windows 2012 R2 Hyper-V host and everything seemed fine.

But when i rebooted a VM i got Windows Boot Manager error 0xc0000428 saying the "digital signature for this file couldn't be verified"

Turning off the VM and moving it to an unpatched host made the VM boot again.
Live migrated it back to the patched host and it ran fine, but if I restart it on the patched host i get the same error again.

Removed all the patches exept KB3173424 that isn't uninstallable. No luck.

Anyone seen something simular and has a fix ?

Connecting Hyper-V machines across network

Hi.  I have Hyper-V server 2016, running a 2012R2 guest as a DC.  On my W10 laptop host, I am running a W10 Hyper-V guest.  I have set it to point to the DNS of the DC, plus the DC is pingable by name, as well as IP.  If I try to join to domain it says it cannot find it! (Domain is NOT pingable.)

Yet, on the Hyper-V server, a second 2012R2 guest can join the domain no problem (obviously since they are running on the same host.)

Can anyone offer any reasons why this is happening?  Totally Frustrating!  :((  i do not wish to do all my VM testing on the one host, rather keep server VMs there and client VMs on my laptop for across-network testing.

Merging snapshots - calculating how large a VHD will grow

$

On 2008 R2: Say you have a 100GB dynamic VHD with 10GB used inside the VM (so the VHD itself is only 10GB), and took a snapshot, then created a 50GB file inside the VM. Then say you deleted the 50GB file inside the VM, so you had only 10GB being reported used in the VM again, then deleted and merged the snapshot. Would you end up with a roughly 60GB dynamic VHD after the merge, or a 10GB?

I understand the best practices or stated maximum space required for a merge being 2x of the AVHD, but I was curious how it works in your experience or "under the hood". I'm planning to do a merge this weekend with a similar scenario to the above - where a logfile grew to over 200GB, then I deleted it, and I wanted to know if it will grow the VHD by ~200GB, or if it's unlikely to.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Hi,

anyone ever upgrade VMs (hyper-v VM) from 2008 R2 to 2012 R2?

I know upgrading from 2008 R2 Standard SP1 to 2012 R2 is possible, is there any recommendation and do I have to activate 2012 after the upgrade?

Thanks

Hyper-V PXE Lab can't do PXE Boot in VM without configure DHCP Options 60,66 & 67

$

Hi,

I'm actually have a PXE Architecture testing Lab build on top of an Hyper-V Host:

My host is a Windows Server Hyper-V 2012 R2 (Full Updates) with only an Internal Virtual Switch for my test Lab. All VMs are Generation 2 and secure boot is disabled.

I have VMs:

  1. SCCM Primary Site
  2. AD DS with DHCP
  3. SQL Server for SCCM DB
  4. SCCM Distribution Point PXE Enabled support for All unknow Computers
  5. Windows 10 Client Machine for PXE Boot test

When I try to do PXE Boot in my client Machine I've an error for my Network Adapter of DHCP Failed, Searching in forums an articles, point to me to change the DHCP Options 60,66 and 67, and It works, but my question is: Microsoft not recommend to use DHCP Options According to Article https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc732351(v=ws.10).aspx, instead configure IP-Helpers in routers or switches. I have no switches or routers because I'm in a virtual environment and I know that IP-Helpers is only use when you have DHCP and WDS in different Subnets. I don't want to configure RRAS or a Virtual Switch Layer 3, because in other non-microsoft virtualization environment that I have  it works like a charm without configure DHCP Options or IP-Helpers.

So could you help me to know why Hyper-V can't do PXE Boot without configure DHCP Options that microsoft not recommend?

thanks Guys for the help that you can bring to me.

Visual Studio Emulators for Android doesn't work on Windows 10

Hi,

When I try to start emulator the start task fails, with message like below.

10.08.2015 14:06:01: [Critical] Unable to add user to the Hyper-V Administrators group. Exit code 2220.

I was using it on Windows 8.1 where it worked well on the same PC. This proves that my PC meets all requirements and it is properly configured. After clean install of Windows 10 emulator doesn't work.

Hyper-V on my PC is running well. I can create and run 32 and 64 bit vm's. There is problem with creating android vm's by vs emulator. There is no group "Hyper-V Administrators" and it can't be created.

Tried these solutions:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/virtual_pc_guy/archive/2010/09/28/creating-a-hyper-v-administrators-local-group-through-powershell.aspx

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/virtual_pc_guy/archive/2008/01/17/allowing-non-administrators-to-control-hyper-v.aspx

also i tried to recreate InitialStore.xml for Hyper-V with needed group and operations but without success. It seems that hyper-v bundled with windows 10 doesn't require any special group to run, create, manage and remove vm's, switches, etc. Emulator thinks different and it can't assign me to group which does not exists.

Hyper V Disk Erased with Checkpoints

$

Please allow me to begin by saying Uuuf! I visited a company where a Hyper V server was running on an external USB drive (I am not kidding). It did not end well.

Here is where the plot thickens:

  • They recovered the files eventually, but the IT person had already deleted the original VM and created a new VM in its place. So they just can't put the data files back in their original location.
  • The recovered VM files from the USB drive have 5+ checkpoints plus two VHD's with the same name, same date, different sizes.
  • There is not a current backup (last successful backup shown in Logs is from Nov. 2015 and they can't even find the backup drive with those files)

I want to help but is this a waste of time? Are the odds of recovery good? If so, can anybody point me towards a starting point? How can I merge the checkpoints to be able to attach the VHD and retrieve the data?

Trying to import virtual machine

$

Hi,

I am very new to Hyper-V so please forgive me if I am asking this in the wrong place.

I installed the Windows 2012 Data Center Edition 6-month trial version, set it up with the Hyper-V role and configured three virtual machines. I decided I wanted to test the Free version of Hyper-V instead so I exported each of those machines to an extra hard drive I installed in my test machine. It only took a few minutes to export each machine.

I then proceeded to install the Hyper-V 2012 Free version in place of Windows 2012 Data Center Edition and have the Hyper-V manager installed and running on a Windows 8 machine I have in my lab. I am able to run the Hyper-V manager and connect to my new server just fine. However, when I attempt to import one of the three machines I had exported previously it starts the process fine, eventually a small window pops up that says "Preparing virtual hard disk destination..." and it seems to be hanging there, even though it only took a few minutes to export this machine it has been stuck on this window for over an hour now.

Does anyone have any idea how to troubleshoot this issue? Or is it normal for this process to take far longer than the initial export?

I appreciate any insight anyone can provide.

Thanks in advance.

Hyper-V 2012R2 and VM: Windows10 - The protocol version of the component installed in the virtual machine does not match the version expected by the hosting system

Hi

On my Hyper-V 2012R2 (all updates installed) I have Windows 10 VM.

There is a problem with VSS Integration Services.

Non-Recoverable Error

The protocol version of the component installed in the virtual machine does not match the version expected by the hosting system

I try to update Integration Services on this Windows 10 but system returned Information that "The computer is already the current version of integration services (10.0.10586.0)."

Due to this  I cannot make VM backup of thise machine using Veeam application. Backup job faild and in Hyper-V Integration log I get:

Hyper-V Volume Shadow Copy Requestor failed to connect to virtual machine 'W10-plwropc304' because the version does not match the version expected by Hyper-V (Virtual machine ID 68D49A55-89BE-403F-8CA7-89ABA1225FCE). Framework version: Negotiated (0.0) - Expected (3.0); Message version: Negotiated (0.0) - Expected (5.0). To fix this problem, you must upgrade the integration services. To upgrade, connect to the virtual machine and select Insert Integration Services Setup Disk from the Action menu.

How to solve this problem?

Kind Regards Tomasz
