Hyper-V Path Not Found while Enabling Replication

$

Hi,

I have configured a Hyper-V server running Windows 2012 DC edition. I have 3 VM in the server and 1 of the VM, I manage to configure replication without any issue. This VM sync successfully to the replica server.

However, when I try to add another VM to the same replica server, it shows this error:

Hyper-V failed to enable replication for virtual machine 'VM name'. The system cannot find the path specified. (0x80070003).

Any suggestion as to how to fix this? How come 1 VM works and the other not?

Thank you.

Find out who deleted the VM in Hyperv

Hi,

Kindly let me know where can we check the logs for VM deletion details and who did it in HyperV. I have checked event id 13003 and HyperV-worker and HyperV-VMMs logs, but didn't get proper information.

In 13003 event ID, shows that VMs is deleted from one SID (S-1-5-83-1-2063782822-1162780032-1510854323-830704), but this SID belongs to replication machine NT VIRTUAL MACHINE\7B02D3A6-9D80-454E-B3CE-0D5AF0AC0C00. what is the meaning of this, is it deleted by its Own or automatically? Kindly help me to find out the same.

Thanks & Regards,

Possible to lock some hyper-v features ?

Hi everyone,

I wonder if it is possible to lock features on hyper-v, like network settings ?

First, I will explain to you our configuration. Each user have the Hyper-v manager feature activated on their machine, but they are not local administrator.

In fact, I want to deploy preconfigured VM on user's computer, but I absolutely don't want that they could create new network card to access to our local network (that's why I don't put them on the Administrator Hyper-v group, because they will be able to change all the settings they want), indeed, by default, the network card put in place point to a VLAN out of our local network.

I have read that before W2012 R2/W8.1 it was possible with azman.cpl, to configure manually Hyper-v, but our users are principaly running W8.1/W10 OS.

So, can someone, please, give me some clues to solve our problem ?

I thought about redirect virtual network card flow with ACL on the switch, but it could be easier if it could be possible to lock features on hyper-v ^^

Sorry for my bad english by the way, i'm a french guy.

Thanks by advance. Regards,

KebabAuThon.

Hyper-V VM disk management.

I have a VM and I created 4 additional virtual hard disks.  I created them as dynamic disks starting with 75GB. After adding them as SCSI hard disks on a virtual Windows Server 2018 R2 I opened disk management and brought all 4 disks online, initialized them, assigned them drive letters and volume labels so that I can tell them apart.  While still in disk management I right click any of the drives and there is an option to convert to dynamic disk.  Should I convert the disk under disk management or with they automatically grow as needed since I set them up as dynamic hard disks under Hyper-V manager?

Windows 7 Remote Server Administration Tools and Hyper-V server 2012 R2 compatibility

Hello,

I have a Windows 2012 R2 stand alone server with HyperV role active and a lot of VM up & running and it is part of domain 'TEST'

On Computer Mgmt --> System Tools --> Local user & Groups --> Groups--> Hyper-V Administrators I have inserted domain user Pippo.

On a Windows 8.1 PC client which is part of domain 'TEST', I have activated the Windows Feauture 'Hyper-V-->Hyper-V Management Tool-->Hyper-V GUI Management Tool' which it contains Virtual Machine Connection Tool too.

If I log in with domain user 'Pippo@Test' and use Virtual Machine Connection Tool I can control all VM console on Hyper-V server.

On a Windows 7 SP1 Prof. Ed. which is part of domain 'TEST', I have installed 'Remote Server Administration Tools x86/x64' and activate the Windows Feauture 'Hyper-V-->Hyper-V Management Tool-->Hyper-V GUI Management Tool' which it contains Virtual Machine Connection Tool too.

If I log in with domain user 'Pippo@Test' and use Virtual Machine Connection Tool I can't control any VM console on Hyper-V server or use Hyper-V manager console: the system give me the error unable to enumerates virtual machine.

The question is: Remote Server Administration Tools x86/x64 and Virtual Machine Connection Tool on Windows 7 SP1 Prof.Ed. are compatibile with Hyper-V 2012 R2 server or it can use it only for Hyper-V 2008 R2?

Kind regards,

Problem with boot system after conversion VM from VMWare 5.5 to Hyper-V 2012 R2

Hi

I've problem with converted VM: Windows Server 2008R2 and Windows 7.

I converted these VMs from VMWare cluster 5.5 (every VM have one virtual disk, vmware version of vm is 7).

When I run these VM on hyper-v I've got blue screen and error:

Technical Information:STOP: 0x00000007B (0xFFFFFF8800009AE7E8, 0xFFFFFFFFC0000034,0x000000000000,0x000000000000)

I use 5Nine V2V converter and Microsoft Virtual Machine Converter 3.1 and the same error.

In Hyper-V, VM have virtual disk (with system files) attached to IDE controller (0,0), generation of VM is 1.

How to solve this problem?

Should I reconfigure VMWare VM before proces of conversion?

Hyper-V Manager freezes on opening

My workstation is running Windows 10, fully patched and updated and a relatively recent install. On our domain we have several Hyper-V servers all running Windows Server 2012 Enterprise. On my workstation Hyper-V manager does not work. Upon starting, it starts attempting to display connected servers but this phase is extremely slow. After awhile, the program becomes totally non-responsive and I have to exit using Task Manager. I've removed and reinstalled the Hyper-V management tools feature; I've reinstalled the RSAT tools; I've disconnected all servers and started reconnecting; I've turned off the firewall and shut down our AV program. I've monitored Event Viewer but no messages appear when I attempt to connect. I've compared this machine to another Windows 10 machine and looked at settings and other configuration settings and they appear to be identical. The second machine's Hyper-V manager program starts right up and displays all VMs on all 5 of our Hyper-V servers within a few seconds. What could be wrong, and how do I troubleshoot this?

Hyper-V 2008R2 VM Entering Saved State Automatically

$

Hello all,

I've searched around looking for an answer to my question, but the only examples I can find online of a VM automatically going into a saved state are cases in which there is a backup program causing the VM to enter that saved state.

My VM seems to be entering a State of Saving randomly in the afternoon while no backups are happening.

Has anyone else experienced this? This is a critical problem as we run IIS and host files and an internal webpage on the VM. The VM does not host Exchange or Active Directory.

I should say, I have Windows Backup running on the Guest OS, which I know is not the best way to back up, and I'm changing my solution to VEEAM, but my backups happen at 3AM.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
I'm running Version 6.1.7601.1754 and only one VM that has Server 2008 R2 on it.

The same situation after conversion using Microsoft System Center VMM 2012 R2.

It make me crazy....

Does anyone covert Suse Linux 11 SP2 from VMware 5.5 to Hyper-V 2012 R2 with successfull?

Connect USB from hyper-v to linux VM hosted on same hyper-v

I want to mount removable media to a linux VM in hyper-v setup.  Tried the following ways.

  1.        Bring removable media to offline.  (This option is not supported for removable media)
  2.        Enhanced session mode approach expecting guest VM OS should be windows version
  3.        Create VHD using removable media and connect VHD to VM.  This is working. But one problem is that if we make any changes either in USB or VHD it is not getting reflected to other part.

Is any other way is available to access removable media inside linux VM?

Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS plymouth blank splash screen on Windows 10 Hyper-V

Hi,

I installed an Ubuntu 16.04.1 server edition to Windows 10 Hyper-V.

Just after installing I used this configuration on /etc/default/grub

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

and updated grub by running update-grub2

In the next boot of the appliance I just get a blank screen forever, the prompt for login doesn't appear. I tried video=uvesafb and video=hyperv_fb with no consistent luck, rarely the splash screen appears briefly and the boot ends. By enabling plymouth:debug on kernel boot it seems that is something related with fb, but not sure where is the problem

Any help appreciated,

NIC will not work after Uninstalling Hyper-V

I was having networking issues on one of my Hyper-V hosts. So I removed it from the cluster, uninstalled clustering and Hyper-V and not no mater what I try, I cannot get networking to work. I have configured static IP addresses and I cannot ping to another host. I set it to DHCP and I get APIPA, even through I know the networking is configured to give me a DHCP. I have taken a laptop to the switch and plugged it into the port and I get a DHCP IP address. I am at a loss. I have uninstalled the NIC, updated firmware, install Drivers. I cannot seem to find where the NIC is broken. Are there any registry keys that Hyper-V modifies that might be causing my issue with the networking? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fixed size VHD with 2 year old snapshot (VM has 2 HDDs)

$

Hello All,

I have been tasked with merging a avhd and vhd for a company that is running out of VHD disk space

This is how it is.

Server 2012 (not R2) with Hyper V installed

1 VHD running SBS 2008 (exchange has been moved to Office 365, no SharePoint, just file shares and limited apps running remain)

The VHD has a snapshot attached which has been running for 2YEARS NOW!!!!

the C drive is 100GB Fixed (60GB of uncommitted avhd data)

the D drive has 500GB fixed (230GB of avhd uncommitted data)

I cannot "delete/merge" the snapshot because the array does not have the merge space (I am really stuck here)

I have tried adding an empty snapshot to the avhd and then exporting it but it "completes" but the avhd data is not committed!!! this is because I think ......the fixed VHD size??  reached its max and then...says its complete

Exact same this with the D drive

After the export the VHD are 100 Dynamically expanding and 500 GD expanding for the D drive

this is what I have tried adding an empty avhd to the parent because I read on many placed that if you export this it merges the avhd into the vhd which give you 2 singe VHDs (C: , D:)......this works but the uncommitted data is not merged into the original VHD.so I end up with two VHDs 1 that has all the old data and the same with the second...

so 1 VHD, 2 Years of uncommitted avdh not no room to merge because of the original vhd because its fixed size

I have spent all weekend on this and found no solution but I do have a 3TB ICSI target to play around with it if this helps

Any suggestions?

PS I have spent 25hours on this already but I will try anything

Kind Regards,

Shane Kearney.

SYSTEM PID 4 is relentlessly reading VHD files for VMs that are not even powered on

$

I've got a bit of a quandary here.  We have several VMs that were powered off about 2 weeks ago.  Despite no access being requested, the SYSTEM process is performing large amounts of read activity on the VHD files.  Image name is "System, PID is 4, which corresponds to the PID of the hypervisor.

The host is Server 2012 R2 Datacentre edition.  We have a 2-node HA cluster and the VHDs reside in ClusterStorage (SAN) as usual.  The Failover Cluster Manager still shows the VM role defined.  Removing the role from FCM did not seem to have any effect.  We do NOT have Replication enabled on any nodes.

2 Questions:

1) How do I tell what is constantly reading these files?

2) How do I make it stop?  The high read activity is impacting my cluster performance.

Hyper-V VSS writer ecnouter errors during taking VSS snapshot on Windows 2012 R2

When taking VSS snapshot with Hyper-V VSS writer on Windows 2012 R2, there are frequently some warning/error logs in Windows Event log. This will make the Hyper-V VSS writer goes to a bad state and in BCD, the BACKUP_METADATA is also missing for the problematic VM.

The logs in Windows Event log are as below:

In Windows Log->Application, there will be logs as:

A VSS writer has rejected an event with error 0x800423f4, The writer experienced a non-transient error.  If the backup process is retried,

the error is likely to reoccur.

. Changes that the writer made to the writer components while handling the event will not be available to the requester. Check the event log for related events from the application hosting the VSS writer.

In Hyper-V-VMMS there are logs as:

The problematic VMs are with Windows OS, Windows 2008R2, Windows 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1.

What is the cause of this problem? The event logs are not understandable at all.

Hyper-V Win10 guest OS fatal error during VSS snapshot. Most current integration services installed.

$

Am having a Server Backup issue on my WS2012R2 server where any Win10 Guest OS is reported as (Offline).  When it attempts a scheduled backup of the Win10 Hyper-V VMs, the guest OS encounters a "fatal error 0xEF..."

When I run the Get-VMIntegrationservices command on the WS2012R2 host, all is OK except for:

VSS. Enabled = True, but PrimaryStatus shows "Non-Recoverable Error" and SecondaryStatus shows "The Protocol Version of the component..."

The guest OS appears to be crashing when the Server Backup attempts to take a snapshot.

Is there anything that can be done to correct this VSS error? or restore VSS functionality within the guest.  I suspect this was caused by some sort of Windows Update on the host but cannot seem to pinpoint it.

I understand Integration Services for Win 10 are now done via Windows Update.  When I attempt to mount the Integration Services .ISO on the guest and run setup, it reports that the most current integration services have been installed within the Win 10 guest OS.  I cannot find a way to force a re-install or repair.

Thanks.

Hyper-V 2012R2 and VM: Windows10 - The protocol version of the component installed in the virtual machine does not match the version expected by the hosting system

Hi

On my Hyper-V 2012R2 (all updates installed) I have Windows 10 VM.

There is a problem with VSS Integration Services.

Non-Recoverable Error

The protocol version of the component installed in the virtual machine does not match the version expected by the hosting system

I try to update Integration Services on this Windows 10 but system returned Information that "The computer is already the current version of integration services (10.0.10586.0)."

Due to this  I cannot make VM backup of thise machine using Veeam application. Backup job faild and in Hyper-V Integration log I get:

Hyper-V Volume Shadow Copy Requestor failed to connect to virtual machine 'W10-plwropc304' because the version does not match the version expected by Hyper-V (Virtual machine ID 68D49A55-89BE-403F-8CA7-89ABA1225FCE). Framework version: Negotiated (0.0) - Expected (3.0); Message version: Negotiated (0.0) - Expected (5.0). To fix this problem, you must upgrade the integration services. To upgrade, connect to the virtual machine and select Insert Integration Services Setup Disk from the Action menu.

How to solve this problem?

Dear People i have a problem with a backup program veeam backup and replication v9

we needed like 2 months ago to build a new file server. so we did this.

we created a new machine in Hyper-v and added the disks and serve to the failovercluster.

Then we added it to a backup job in Veeam.

from the first try it didnt backupped the server Fs02.

It keeps saying abbout vss

So first i got support from veeam but they couldn’t help because it is a windows server 2012 problem.

i was looking to the vss admin writers, 3 where in a failed state:

i searched for the services of thos admin writers and restarted them. After that I rebooted the server. But still I got no success.

When I try to run a backupjob of the server in veeam this is the static log:

I don’t know if this is necessary, but for the info I put this picture with it PLEASE HELP
