2012 host, 2012R2 guest: How to upgrade Integration Components?

$

WS2012 HV host, WS2012R2 guest. Have installed KB3161609 v2, including its new VMGUEST.ISO.

I can install the new ICs on the 2012 guests, but on 2012R2, I get "This computer is already running the current version of integration services  (version 6.3.9600.16384)."

Am I supposed to upgrade the IC on 2012R2 guests of a 2012 host? If so, how?

TIA

Where do I find the Integration Services Setup Disk?

When I connect to my VM and select Insert Integration Services Setup Disk from the Action menu, nothing happens.  Should this be on my my Windows Server 2008 R2 DVD that I used to set yp Hyper-V and my two VMs?

Thanks

Interrupted VM stuck

I was doing updates on my 2012R2 Hyper-V VM and power dropped. When I booted my host PC back up the VM would start and say Hyper-V Updating your system (x%) and get stuck at 5%. I can't get past this and I have no snapshots/backups of the VM. Is there anyway to recover this VM?

Visual Studio Emulators for Android doesn't work on Windows 10

Hi,

When I try to start emulator the start task fails, with message like below.

10.08.2015 14:06:01: [Critical] Unable to add user to the Hyper-V Administrators group. Exit code 2220.

I was using it on Windows 8.1 where it worked well on the same PC. This proves that my PC meets all requirements and it is properly configured. After clean install of Windows 10 emulator doesn't work.

Hyper-V on my PC is running well. I can create and run 32 and 64 bit vm's. There is problem with creating android vm's by vs emulator. There is no group "Hyper-V Administrators" and it can't be created.

Tried these solutions:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/virtual_pc_guy/archive/2010/09/28/creating-a-hyper-v-administrators-local-group-through-powershell.aspx

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/virtual_pc_guy/archive/2008/01/17/allowing-non-administrators-to-control-hyper-v.aspx

also i tried to recreate InitialStore.xml for Hyper-V with needed group and operations but without success. It seems that hyper-v bundled with windows 10 doesn't require any special group to run, create, manage and remove vm's, switches, etc. Emulator thinks different and it can't assign me to group which does not exists.

Windows 2012R2 VM Guests hang showing state Stopping-critical

Hi

I have a Windows 2012 R2 Std Server running Hyper V. I have 2 VM guests running windows 2012 Std R2. Since last week Windows backup on the Host was failing and the VM Guest was hanging. As of yesterday the VM guests Hangs intermittently or always on reboot. The VM Manager shows the guest state as "Stopping- Critical" and the only way to bring the VN Guest back up is to reboot the current Host server.

We have reinstalled Hyper-V on the host and it still does the same. The Host has been updated using windows update, still the same.

Need a simple step by step to connect to Hyper-V on windows server 2012 r2 from Windows 10.

Hello all, so I've gone through various guides, or tips or whatever, configuring winrm, credssp, and whatever else I could find, and I just can't bloody connect to my hyper-v server from a windows 10 client.

At best I get an issue with credssp, and in most cases I get told that the username I put in is not valid, and it's driving me nuts.

Both the server and client are in the default workgroup, there are no domains, and everything I find seems to just be massively overcomplicated, I mean, why can't I just log in with the admin username and password for the server, or a secondary one that I add in, and make sure to include in the hyper v admin group?

Forgive me for being blunt but I'm extremely tired today and frazzled from trying to get this to work for a while.

Hyper-V 2012 Replica server query

We have server A and B configured as replica servers. We have enabled replication for one of the VM (VM1) with recovery point option “only the latest point for recovery

Please clarify the below points.

  • How may recovery points will get created? I guess there will be only one recovery point that stays always with the VM, correct me if I am wrong.
  • How frequently it will get created/updated and on what changes to the VM creates the snapshot?
  • When there is any low disk space can we delete this snapshot and merge it?

AVHD Merge with fixed disk - any additional space required?

I have a host that has a VM with a single snapshot that has been running for a few months and the disk is running out of space. The largest avhd is over 500GB, but would be merged into a fixed VHD. I assume in this case no additional space is required to merge it in, as the fixed disk won't grow, is that correct?

That fixed disk is the second VHD for this VM, the first VHD is a dynamic disk, but I'm trying to determine how much space I realistically need for it to merge. Inside the VM the C: (first VHD) has a total capacity of 400GB, with about 50GB free, and the VHD for this is 400GB, with a 280GB AVHD. My guess is most of the 280GB are changes and not new data, as that would grow the VHD to around 680GB, and the C: inside the VM as I said is showing 400GB.

I ask for clarification on this as I can free up around 240GB on this drive, and if the merge for the fixed disk won't require any additional space, then I would expect the dynamic disk merge to possibly complete successfully with the remaining 240GB I'd have.

Does all of that sound reasonable? I also have a new host that I could copy/merge/etc. all of this on. Just trying to find the shortest path to a reliable solution.

2012R2 Hyper-v Host and 2012R2 guest. No NIC, unable to load drivers

I have search around but cant seem to find a working answer.  I have a 2012R2 I am spinning up for testing.  The original server is a dell320 with Shadowprotect.  I have spun up 20 servers with the same config and never had this issue.  I have removed the Hyper-v switch and added legacy NIC card but no matter what I get code31 and the NIC will not come online. I get the yellow triangle. If I update the drivers is says I have the latest drivers but still will not load.   Any thoughts or suggestions?

Pet peeve: Numlock of Host

OK, I am sorry if this may seem "childish", but I have to let know my little frustration about the Hyper-V manager and the VM windows that keep changing the state of my Numlock!!!!!!

I want it ON, but everytime I open a VM, it keeps switching it to OFF, and for the love of me, I can't find a way to make it stop that...

There, I feel better, and who knows, maybe this little thing may get corrected in the final version ;)

HYPER-V Cluster W2012R2 Can't delete VHDX on CSV

'm working on a Windows 2012 R2 Hyper-v. I've just done an EXPORT of a Virtual Machine to a CSV Volume to import later.

But I hanve't performed the import, and when I went to delete the exported folder I've got an access denied error of the VHDX file.

How can I identify which is the process that locks this file and delete it? There no is any Virtual Machine with this file attached on it.

I've restarted the "Hyper-V Virtual management server" service without success.

This is not a permission problem because I've also tried to take ownership to reset permissions, but I'm also getting an 'access denied error'. Also with CACLS command.

Server 2012 R2 VM Boots to a Boot Manager Screen

Hello all,

I'm having a specific issue where I shut down my virtual machine (from within its OS) in a Hyper-V / Fail Over Cluster environment and then regardless of how long I wait When I power on my machine it shows the Boot Manager Screen.

What's going on ?

My event logs say that the success was true for <g class="gr_ gr_401 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins doubleReplace replaceWithoutSep" data-gr-id="401" id="401">shutdown</g>.

I would appreciate any insight. None of the other <g class="gr_ gr_442 gr-alert gr_spell gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" data-gr-id="442" id="442">vm's</g> are doing it.

Thank You All,

Jerry

Firewall case with hyperv ipv4 forwarding

Hello

I have Hyperv machine where we added couple of VM windows base. From HyperV host we set ipv4 forwarding in registry. Everything is working fine between Host and VMs, but once we enable Windows firewall in VM machine then VM no longer access from outside network.

We have Bypass all port against IP addresses using by VM for inbound and outbound in HyperV host, but are unable to locate why VM stop responding from outside network.

Note: Firewall is enabled on HyperV host and this machine is working fine.

XML Error when attempting to enable replication in Hyper-V Manager on Server 2012

$

I inherited a network and the Hyper-V Replication server seemed to have stopped working correctly a month before I arrived, probably due to a lack of hard drive space. I've been resolving this over the last week, with half the machines on the existing server and half on another one.

Having removed replication and deleted the VHDs on the existing replica server, for some of the machines, enabling replication onto it has been no problem at all. However, for a few of them, i've been recieving the following message (which is also present in event viewer under Windows Logs/Applications and Services/Microsoft/Hyper-V-VMMS as error 32000).

Enabling Replication Failed

Hyper-V failed to enable replication.

Hyper-V failed to enable replication for virtual machine "Servername": The name in the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag. (0xC00CEE3B). (Virtual machine ID C70CD786-B8FA-445D-BD14-4115E01C80A1)

Which appears to be some form of XML error? Have tried removing undo logs for said servers too but it makes no difference. Any ideas or help would be much appreciated.

Hyper-V Manager freezes on opening

$

My workstation is running Windows 10, fully patched and updated and a relatively recent install. On our domain we have several Hyper-V servers all running Windows Server 2012 Enterprise. On my workstation Hyper-V manager does not work. Upon starting, it starts attempting to display connected servers but this phase is extremely slow. After awhile, the program becomes totally non-responsive and I have to exit using Task Manager. I've removed and reinstalled the Hyper-V management tools feature; I've reinstalled the RSAT tools; I've disconnected all servers and started reconnecting; I've turned off the firewall and shut down our AV program. I've monitored Event Viewer but no messages appear when I attempt to connect. I've compared this machine to another Windows 10 machine and looked at settings and other configuration settings and they appear to be identical. The second machine's Hyper-V manager program starts right up and displays all VMs on all 5 of our Hyper-V servers within a few seconds. What could be wrong, and how do I troubleshoot this?

hyper-v 2012 unresponsive but guest OS are running fine

One of my hyper-v host (win 2012) is unresponsive (unable to login locally, RDP, remote computer management).

But all the guest OS inside host are just working fine. I had to reboot the host to resolve this problem and unable to find any error message in the event viewer too. And now it hang for the second time after just a few days I rebooted the host.

Your response is appreciated. Thanks!
