Hi all,

I Have read very many articles and materials on how to achieve a virtual lab for windows server 2010R2. I am studying for my mcsa exams and i really want to get the lab out the way. I have read and watched tutorials on how this can be achieved but the instance is always that windows server 2008 or later is being run as the default host operating system.

My machine is as follows;

1. Window 10 host os

2. 16gb ram

3. windows server 2012r2 as the guest os for my virtual machines

How do i achieve this in my windows 10 host operating system with RRAS?

Hello all, so I've gone through various guides, or tips or whatever, configuring winrm, credssp, and whatever else I could find, and I just can't bloody connect to my hyper-v server from a windows 10 client.

At best I get an issue with credssp, and in most cases I get told that the username I put in is not valid, and it's driving me nuts.

Both the server and client are in the default workgroup, there are no domains, and everything I find seems to just be massively overcomplicated, I mean, why can't I just log in with the admin username and password for the server, or a secondary one that I add in, and make sure to include in the hyper v admin group?

Forgive me for being blunt but I'm extremely tired today and frazzled from trying to get this to work for a while.

Hi guys,

I'm getting this errors trying to start some VMs. If the parent is restarted, they work again.
I have found no particular reason: a working VM after a Windows restart (in the child partition) stop working, stuck at "Starting 50%" and gives this error.

Ideas?

User shared contacts are not getting added in to Address book in outlook 2013 and 2016.

How can i do that any tweak???? users are on office365

Good Morning,

I am seeing this event on Hyper-V host. The network adapters all have different MAC addresses. I am not experiencing any issues but wondering why the event logs keep appearing under application log? 

Is this normal message or there is an issue that may cause additional problem in the future?

I use Hyper V manager on Windows 10 for create VM, Then export VM, Then import to Hyper V manager on Windows Server 2012 R2. but Hyper V manager (2012 R2) cannot import, it didn't show any VM in "select VM".

I must new VM and browse VHD to export folder.

It can import to Hyper V manager on Windows 10 only.

Hyper V manager (10) version 6.2 and 7.0 are same problem.

Hi Guys,

Need a bit of help. Been googling this for days now but can't find anything that works. I took a vhdx backup of an existing server using Disk2VHD. The process worked fine, with no errors. So I created a new virtual machine in Hyper V and tried to use the created VHDX files as the hard drives but I just keep getting the error "No operating system was Loaded". It was a UEFI disk to tried Generation 2, adding them as IDE and SCSI drives, booting off iso and running repairs on the partitions but nothing is working. The VHDX files are from a Server 2012 R2 server and I really need your help trying to get them to work. Any ideas would be most appreciated.

I've recently set up a new Hyper-V host which uses SMB3 to connect to a network share for storage.  Both the host and the storage server are running Server 2012R2.  Both servers have one NIC connected to the domain network, and one 10GBe NIC connected to an isolated network used only for storage traffic.  

When I try to run a backup of the Hyper-V guests running on the new host using Veeam, the backup fails with this error:

7/26/2016 7:09:57 AM :: Unable to allocate processing resources. Error: Writer 'Microsoft Hyper-V VSS Writer' is failed at 'VSS_WS_FAILED_AT_PREPARE_SNAPSHOT'.
The writer experienced a non-transient error.  If the backup process is retried,
the error is likely to reoccur.
--tr:Failed to verify writers state.
--tr:Failed to perform pre-backup tasks.

I have tried following the steps listed in this technet article to create a snapshot manually using diskshadow.  When I get to the "Create" step, I get this error: 

COM call "lvssObject4->GetRootAndLogicalPrefixPaths" failed.

       The component "Microsoft Hyper-V VSS Writer" was not found in the writer components list. Aborting backup ...
       Check the syntax of the component name.

I am running these tests using a domain admin account, so it should definitely have the necessary permissions.  The storage server does have the File Server VSS Agent Service installed.   What have I missed, or mis-configured, that would cause snapshots to fail?

I have Gen 2 VM running on 2012 R2 with a 2012 R2 guest OS with only DPM 2012 R2 in it. This VM sometime in last 48 hours appears to have fatally errored in last 48 hours. It now just says CRITICAL_SERVICE_FAILURE. I don't have a OS / VM level backup of this server (I know my bad). I was going to try to reinstall Server 2012 R2 on top (does that even still work, I haven't tried since Windows 2000 Server).

The real question is I can't seem get Boot from DVD as an option.

I have tried adding another SCSI controller and DVD drive and nothing seemed to change. This is the same ISO I used to build many VM so I know it is good. It was downloaded from VLSC. Any help appreciated.

Hi all,

I just merged an AVHD into a VHD for a virtual machine using the Edit Disk option under the action menu after all of the snapshots had been deleted, but the VM not shut down afterwards for a long time.  I'd done this on a different virtual, and Hyper-V automatically figured out where the new drive was.  With this one, I got a progress bar regarding the merge, which filled to completion.  However, the VM refused to boot, because it can't find the AVHD file that was merged away.  When I try to change the virtual, I get a message saying:

Cannot change disk since a disk merging is pending.

However, I can't figure out how to get Hyper-V to give tell me the progress of that merge.  Any ideas?

Hi team,

Is it possible to configure Hyper V VM replication even if the Hosts are in different hosts ?

I want to configure VM replication from hosts to Hosts over WAN which is added in different domain. Also want to know that will it possible if I configure child domain.

Note : Users cannot access parent domain or hosts which is part of parent domain.

Kindly help me...

My notebook Asus ROG GL752V was a SSD 128GB with 5400 1TB hard drive, is it possible to install additional operating system: windows server 2012r2? how to perform a dual system in my notebook?

I have successfully installed in my desktop PC, but for notebooks.. a downloaded trial 180 from Microsoft pages version, how to install ? because 128GB I only have 60Gb left.. , question is: if I installed windows server 2012r2 at my 5400 1TB D drive.. will it fail?

Hi Everyone

I have Hyper-V environment consist of 15 windows 2012 Datacenter.

I have issues in the environment, so I run the Cluster Validation test, I get errors in Validate Hyper-V Integration Services Version.

Error:

The following virtual machines are running integration services that does not match the host computer (and a list of VM’s).

Then I run a PowerShell command

 (Get-ClusterGroup | Get-VM | Format-Table Name, IntegrationServicesVersion)

The result was different version of integration services:

TETfnet                                                              6.2.9200.21919                                                           

TESTNAE2                                                          6.2.9200.16433

Hi,

I have several Hyper-V images running on my machine and I cannot access the Internet from any of them.

My host is running Server 2008 R2. I have one physical NIC. My guest OSs have been Server 2008/2003 with no luck on either.
I have tried removing and adding the Hyper-V role.
I have tried both Network Adapter and Legacy Network Adapter in the guests.
I am selecting the External option when creating the virtual network.
The virtual network adapter appears to be created correctly (a second adapter appears with the full set of protocols, etc selected and the original adapter has only the Virtual Network Switch protocol selected) when I add network support through the Hyper-V console.

I can remote desktop into the guest OSs and access them fine from the host.

Thoughts? Suggestions?  Need more info?

I am building a proof of concept for virtualizing our student lab space. I am using Hyper-V with remote desktop services and Dell Wyse 5010s running WTOS 8.2. So far everything has worked out perfectly, with the exception of USB redirection. I simply cannot seem to make it work. I am also having little luck finding any helpful resources. Would someone be willing to give me a step by step process for making this work? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi guys,

Please help me, I am stuck.

My Hyper-V on Windows 2012 R2 not using the ODX when Live Migrate Storage (I see copy speed 0.3 Gb pes Second). When machine is offline then ODX works (I see copy speed 0.6-0.9 Gb pes Second).

 

First, My Lab Configuration:

Hyper-V installed on Windows 2012 R2 Datacenter (all public updates are installed at 27.02.2016)

This Machine connected to HP 3Par 8200 Storage by Fiber Channel HBA

I have 2 LUN attached to 2 CSV on this Machine

I’ve checked this with VM Gen2 and Gen1 by using SCSI controller for VHDX.

 

I checked that ODX works perfect by using this method (described on this sitehttps://technet.microsoft.com/ru-ru/library/jj200627(v=ws.11).aspx ):

1. Switch OFF the ODX Function

Set-ItemProperty hklm:\system\currentcontrolset\control\filesystem -Name "FilterSupportedFeaturesMode" -Value 1

Copy file from CSV1 to CSV2 and vise-versa

Check speed and Hight disk byte per sec

0.2-0.3 Gb per Sec.

1. Switch ON the ODX Function

Set-ItemProperty hklm:\system\currentcontrolset\control\filesystem -Name "FilterSupportedFeaturesMode" -Value 0

1. Copy file from CSV1 to CSV2 and vise-versa

Check speed and Low disk byte per sec

0.6-1 Gb per Sec.

As I understand, by reading this https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831375(v=ws.11).aspx , everything I need for Hyper-V requirements is using SCSI virtual controller to connect my VHD or VHDX files to VM.

Also I’ve checked this by using VMM 2012 R2 but same result. Also I`ve added my Storage to VMM by using SMI-S provider.

PS All help will be appreciated, but I am hurry up.

Hi All,

I am currently in the process of building a new hyper v cluster so i can migrate from 2008R2 to 2012R2. On my 2008R2 cluster we have 1 single nic for live migration and 1 nic for the privacy cluster communication, i know i can now team the live migration, i would like to also team the privacy cluster nic so it has hardware redundancy across 2 nics. Would this have any negative impact on the cluster communication?

Below is My NIC config on the host server: 

We have 16 NIC ports 4 of which are Broadcom BCM57810 Netextreme II 10 Gig E and 12 Broadcom Netextreme Gigabit Ethernet.

I plan to use them as below:

2 x Gigabit Broadcom for Management connection to the host server (Teamed)

4 x Gigabit Broadcom for VM traffic (Teamed)


2 x Gigabit Broadcom for Live Migration (Teamed)

2 x Gigabit Broadcom for Privacy Cluster Comms (Teamed if Possible)

2 x 10 Gig Broadcom for isci traffic, 1 of each going to seperate isci switch for redundancy

Hallo everyone,

In the last couple of weeks we bought a new Internet Cable with 400MB/s and we are facing a problem while downloading anything from the internet or from our FTP Server.

Here are the full used Settings:

0) VM is being used as Default Gateway by using PRAS for Nating.

1) The VM is WS2012R2 , while the Host is Hyper-v 2012 r2

2) The Modem is connected directly to the VM with a static IP from the ISP.

3) 2 Network adapters are didicated for the VM. The 1st is for Public Internet with static public IP ( connected to the Modem) and the 2nd is forPrivate local network (connected to our Network).

4) Network Card is Intel I350-T4  1 GB (VMQ supported and DMA Supported).

The problem is when I connect the modem directly to a client, the downlaod speed will be high 25 to 30 MB/s (depending on the website). While when I using our Gateway with the above settings the speed will drop gradually to 2 MB/s and will stay at this speed.

I have tried to work a little bit with VMQ and RSS but no results. Here is what I have tried:

First the Server specification is : 2 AMD CPU 4 Cores = 2 SOckets, 8Cores and 8 Logical Processirs

Enable VMQ in Host (Hyper-v Server)

Enable RSS in Guest (VM)

Tried to set the VMQ Base and Max processor for the 2 Network Adapters through the 8 cores but didn't see any difference.

For example:

Set-NetAdapterVmq -Name "NetAdapter_Public" -BaseProcessorNumber 1 -MaxProcessors 8

Set-NetAdapterVmq -Name "NetAdapter_Private" -BaseProcessorNumber 5 -MaxProcessors 8

Note: I have tested the Internet on a Test Server with Hyper-V installed as Host and WS2012R2 VM as Gateway and it did workimmediately without problems.

The VMQ is until now really complicated for me and for sure I'm missing something. I will be gratefull if someone can go through the decryption above and help me to find a solution.
