Change virtual switch connection type

$

I set up a test domain with one virtual switch and in order to keep it segregated from our LAN when I need to, I simply switch the connection type within the virtual switch from external to internal/private. This was working great till just the other day when I made the switch and it didn't seem to finish the changes. Now when I try to change the setting, it's grayed out and there's an additional note at the bottom saying "Some settings can't be changed because you have multiple network adapters for the management operating system."

When I look at ncpa, I see my 2 NICs, the team it's on and for some reason 3 virtual ethernet adapters with different IPs from my guest DHCP.

I've restarted yet am still unable to modify these settings. I don't want to nor can I anyway remove the one virtual switch I've made. Next plans were to shutdown all hyper-v services then see if I'm able to go from there. Ideally I'd like to keep this adapter and fix whatever stuck setting(s) were never applied when I made that property change.

Guest Virtual Machine Health Monitoring

Hi

My team and I have interface which allows us to monitor our Hyper-V virtual machine states. We are also building a custom terminal services interface to connect to the Hyper-V virtual machines using the AsMSTSCLib. In order to configure the connection settings, we would like to know if there are avenues by which we can check the OS state for a guest Windows 10 VM. Specific data points we're hoping to infer the following:

  1. Did the OS boot up properly?
  2. Is the OS in the lock screen?
  3. Is the OS into a user session?

From what we know, Hyper-V only monitors the hypervisor visible health metrics and not the guest OS health metrics. Are there any avenues we might be able to leverage to get guest OS level state information?

New Hyper-V Environment - system assessment

I have developed a new domain with Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows Essentials in a Hyper-V environment and would like a system assessment performed to make sure there are no glaring mistakes with the architecture.  This is for a small corporate office with 10 users.  Hardware platform is Dell PowerEdge 710 server with 48GB of memory and six 500MB drives.  There are two virtual machines on Hyper-V core server, first VM is PDC, Active Directory, Anywhere Access, Windows Essentials, DNS. Second VM runs Exchange 2013, Symantec Mail Security for Exchange, WSUS and print server.

Can't set DVD as boot device?

I have Gen 2 VM running on 2012 R2 with a 2012 R2 guest OS with only DPM 2012 R2 in it. This VM sometime in last 48 hours appears to have fatally errored in last 48 hours. It now just says CRITICAL_SERVICE_FAILURE. I don't have a OS / VM level backup of this server (I know my bad). I was going to try to reinstall Server 2012 R2 on top (does that even still work, I haven't tried since Windows 2000 Server).

The real question is I can't seem get Boot from DVD as an option.

I have tried adding another SCSI controller and DVD drive and nothing seemed to change. This is the same ISO I used to build many VM so I know it is good. It was downloaded from VLSC. Any help appreciated.

Hyper-v: Delay the poping up of the connection bar of Hyper-v when running in full screen.

Hi everyone:

Is there any way to do this? Every time I moved the mouse to the top of the VM, the connection bar pop up from hidden state. That really bothered me.

Question about host OS and performances

Hi,

I plan to setup a virtualization server powered by Hyper-V. I already have the hardware which runs 2 * 6 Cores Xeon (12 physical cores, 24 logical ones) and 128 GB of RAM.

I've a question about the host OS, its performances and ability to drive this powerful hardware. AFAIK, my host OS could be Windows 10 Pro, or a Windows Server flavor (WS or System Center). So are those 2 OSes will behave differently in term of performances?

Thanks.

Hyper-V - 'Operating system shutdown' not functioning on Windows Server 2012 R2

I have a newly installed Windows Server 2012 R2 running the Hyper-v role, the only role it is using.

I have created a new Generation 2 guest VM, Windows Server 2012 R2 std, the only VM and set 'Automatic Stop Action' to 'Shutdown the guest operating system'

Host:

Dell 2950 Dual processor, 8 core, 32Gb RAM

Info:

The 'Hyper-v Guest Shutdown Service' is running in the VM.

VM will shutdown using hyper-v manager.

Problem:

Shutdown the host from the shutdown dialogue and the VM is turned off and not shutdown!

Any ideas please?

Virtual Machine Connection - "Connection Unsecure & Login Failure"

Running Server 2008 SP2,

I noticed that on the virtual machine connection the lock in the bottom right is always showing "connection unsecure".

Also, I enabled the "Default User Credentials" setting but everytime I connect to a VM it gives me a login failure and makes me put in my stuff again. I works fine when I type it in but why doesn't the "Default User Credentials" setting work?

Is any of this because the hypervisor is running ontop a DC?

"we couldn't complete the features undoing changes" on activating Hyper-V

I've been looking for this error all over the internet, and I can't find any solution.

So I have a Asus N750JK with Windows 8.1 64 bits Pro installed.

I have SLAT feature (I downloaded a small application to check and it says I have it all) , I also have activated Intel Virtualization in the BIOS. When I go to Control Panel -> Programs -> Enable or disable Windows Features, I go to Hyper V and check"Hyper V Platform" , it applies the updates, asks to restart computer, and it does, then it goes normally, starts to update, restarts the windows and it goes up to 100% and in the end it says: "We couldn't complete the features undoing changes" and restarts my windows once again and says: "we couldn't complete the updates undoing changes"

I have tried:

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

but nothing changed.

What do I have to do to fix this?

Thanks.

Static IP-adresses for virtual machines in Hyper-V with internet access ?

Hi guys

English is not my native language, but I hope you understand it anyway :)

Right now im trying to configure a virtual server environment in a Virtual network on my laptop computer in Hyper-V.

I want to have servers on my virtual network with static IP adresses and clients with dynamic IP adresses. I have tried many configurations but I can't get it to work. I want my virtual network to be mobile also, so my virtual switch connected to my Wifi adapter has to have dynamic settings so it can connect to any Wifi network where I have my computer connected to.

First i tried with two external switches attached to my domain controller on the virtual network. One attached to my Ethernet adapter and one attached to my Wifi adapter. I only get access to the internet on my domain controller since it has the external switch attached to my Wifi adapter.

Where all my other virtual machines have only one eternal switch attached to them, all connected to the Ethernet adapter.

I also tried with an internal switch on all my virtual machines (to create a private network) and an external switch to the wifi adapter on my domain controller also. So my virtual machines has to use my domain controller as a gateway to the internet, since it has internal ethernet adapter and the external switch wifi adapter attached to i.

Thank you for your help :)

How to uninstall Hyper-V?

Hyper-V isn't uninstalling.  It has had some errors.  Are there any known programs that cause such error?  I need to get rid of the Hyper-V role.  When trying to uninstall, I get this error:

Hyper-V: Removal failed

<Error>: Attempt to un-install Hyper-V failed with error code 0x80004005. Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.

Can't create new virtual machine after migration to SSD

$

I'm running Windows 10. I recently reconfigured my system from a single HD to a SSD/HD configuration.  The new SSD wasn't going to have enough room to hold all my VMs, so I exported them to a second hard drive in order to import them later onto my new D: drive.  I then copied the remaining contents of my C: to the SSD, and then installed the SSD as my new C: drive.

Ever since then I have been having problems with Hyper-V. I can't import the VMs I had previously exported before the switch. I can't even create a new VM, either on the C: or the D: drive.  If I try, it says "Failed to add device 'Virtual Hard Disk'.  The storage where the virtual hard disk is located does not support virtual hard disk sharing.  Cannot get information for attachment 'C:\Virtual Machines\Test2\Virtual Hard Disks\Test2.vhdx'.

Any help would be appreciated.

P2V Physical Windows 2003 Standard R2 SP2 to Hyper-V 2012 Server via MVMC v3.1

Hi all,

I am trying to P2V Physical Windows 2003 Standard R2 SP2 to Hyper-V 2012 Server, I am using MVMC v3.1 tool and in completion tasks, it showed "There are blocking issue for the physical-to-virtual conversion: The source machine is running a version of 'Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition' which is earlier than 6.0 (Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008). Physical-to-Virtual is not support on this version Windows".

According to above message, that's means I cannot perform P2V via MVMC v3.1?  But I found some document on web, Hyper-V 2012 support Windows 2003 Server.  Please advice!

Thanks,

Stanley

Hi!

I have Windows 2012 R2 server with Hyper-V. I created a guest machine with Windows 10. I found out that Windows 10 machine is not eligible for live backup with Windows Server Backup. I did some research and found the following message in Event Log:

Hyper-V Volume Shadow Copy Requestor failed to connect to virtual machine 'Andy Windows 10' because the version does not match the version expected by Hyper-V (Virtual machine ID 3200491C-8CF8-4996-B4C7-C0EC34F7D5B3). Framework version: Negotiated (0.0) - Expected (3.0); Message version: Negotiated (0.0) - Expected (5.0). To fix this problem, you must upgrade the integration services. To upgrade, connect to the virtual machine and select Insert Integration Services Setup Disk from the Action menu.

According to instructions I inserted the Integration Services disk, but Windows 10 said that all Integration Services are up to date and there is nothing to install.

This problem occurs on two separate servers, only with Windows 10 guests. All another guests (I have 2012 Servers, Windows 7) work without any problems.

Please help.
