Hyper V Host Slow in Response for Single Processor?

$

Dear Support

I have 2x HP Server (BL460c Gen8 - CPUE5-2650v2 @2.60Ghz), One with Single Processor (128GB Ram) and the other with Dua Processors (80GB + 80GB Ram).

Each of this Hyper V host, there is one VM in each host.  When I do PING test, the Dua Processor will usually get<1ms Respone, but for Single Processor, I always get 1ms Response instead of <1ms.

I tested on other server with Single Processor, the result is still the same.

Please advice is there any solution of this Single Processor Bugs.  I have also test the VMQ by disabling and enabling and still the same result.

The reason why it a concern is due to response time is affecting the VMs performance on Oracle Databases.

Please guide me to solve this response issue.

Thank you.

Dear bro,

I have a server with 16GB of RAM - installed with Windows Server 2012. At the first time, my ex-colleague set static amount of RAM (8GB) for the real server, and 8GB of RAM for the virtual machine. Recently, my electricity had problem so the server shut downed sudently and I cannot start my virtual machine. I found and solution for this is change from static RAM to dynamic RAM, now I can start my virtual machine but it is so lag because I cannot set 8GB of RAM for it, I just can set it 4GB of RAM. How do I do in this situation? Please help. Thank you very much!

I am having trouble starting a VM.  I am suspecting that it might be due to my hardware.  I have a Dell Optiplex 755 A09.  Processor is Intel Duo Core E4500 @2.2Ghz Hyperthreading = No and 2 mb cache.  I had this computer given to me, but would like to run Hypervisor on it if possible.  Can the processor be upgraded, if so, what would I have to purchase in order to make hypervisor work?

Server 2012 Hyper-V use a second and third NIC

I have a dell server with the NICs installed in the image below:  I guess I need to know how to set this up.  on #38 we have the server connected to a router using NAT (the servers NAT IP address is 192.168.x.x) (The static IP address is xx.xx.xxx.107 )because the outside world need no access to the server running Windows Server 2012.  All configuring or other use of the physical hardware Server will be done locally.  The outside world needs access to SQL Server 2012 running in a VM using xx.xx.xxx.109 which is plugged into #41.    Also withing the next few days we will be creating another VM to run a web server on #40 using outside world IP address xx.xx.xxx.108

What settings on Virtual Switch Manager would be best to achieve my goal?

Or do I have it all wrong?  What do I need to do to make this happen xx.xx.xxx.107 thru .109, xx.xx.xxx.107 being  no access from outside world (physical server is 198.169.x.x using NAT) and the second Ethernet cable having the static address of xx.xx.xxx.108 being a web server running in a VM and a 3rd Ethernet cable having the static IP address xx.xx.xxx.109 being connected to a SQL Server 2012 in a VM?

Hyper-V HA 4 node cluster blue screen during backup

Hi,

we have a customer running a 4 node Hyper-V Cluster.

Each host has 4 NICs configured in 2 Teams, one Team is iSCi and the other is the VM Switch SCVMM 2012 is setup and runnnig.

Now, my question is, the customer setup his system without configuring Converged switches.

Every time a Backup is run, the Hosts bluescreen one after the other, generally at least 3 nodes crash. would the fact that there is no weighting on the network (no converged switches) cause a flood and bring the hosts to crash?

We have used Backup Exec and also tested with Veaam, the same happens everytime.

if it is caused by the switches, can we setup the converged switches using the physical NIC already configured with a virtual switch, or would we need to completly reconfigure all networking to migrate to a converged switching setup?

Thanks, Peter

Virtual Machine could not be started because the hypervisor is not running

Hi

I have installed Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition with a GUI. Default configuration, nothing special.

Whenever I want to turn on any machine inside of Hyper-V, the following error message appears:

"Virtual Machine could not be started because the hypervisor is not running"

Whenever this happens, I run the following command:

bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype Auto

and reboot the Server. After a reboot, all Virtual Machines can be started without Problems. However, as soon as I shut down the Server instead of rebooting it, the Problem happens again and I need to enter the command again and reboot.

Now my question is how to solve this Problem. I never had this Issue with Windows Server 2008 R2, maybe there are some differences regarding the Hypervisor in Server 2012. How can I make sure the Hypervisor is always on, even after a Shutdown? Thanks in Advance

VM was faulted with general protection exception

Hi everybody,

I had a strange problem.
My hyperv was not responding and each VMs were not responding. I had to restart a server!

My VM is based on Debian.

When I look in the log of HyperV, I see these messages:

  • The Microsoft Synthetic Display Controller device on DB virtual machine experienced a VMBus pipe error 0x800705AD.
  • 'DB' was faulted with general protection exception, due to unexpected error occurred on the host while emulating an instruction for this guest. If the problem persists, contact Product Support.
  • Cannot get information about available space for path: C:\Users\Public\Documents\Hyper-V\Virtual Hard Disks\. Error: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service. (0x800705AA).
  • 'DB' successfully allocated memory, but a subset of the physical pages was allocated on a remote non-uniform memory architecture (NUMA) node. This configuration is not recommended because it will reduce performance.
  • Device 'Microsoft Synthetic Display Controller' in 'DB' is loaded but has a different version from the server.  Server version 3.3 Client version 3.2 The device will work, but this is an unsupported configuration. This means that technical support will not be provided until this problem is resolved. To fix this problem, upgrade the integration services. To upgrade, connect to the virtual machine and select Insert Integration Services Setup Disk from the Action menu.

What is happened? I cann't uderstand!

I have no idea, help me please!

Upg Host from Win8.1 Pro to Win 10 Pro causes Guest OS and Office to become un-activated

I have a Lenovo WorkStation with 2 Hyper-V  VM's running on it. I need to isolate a couple of pieces of SW that cannot peacefully co-exist on the same machine.

( yes, I have enough Open License w/ SA to cover all of this )

I just upgraded the Host machine from Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10 Pro and now the guests OS ( Win10b1511, Win8.1 Enterprise)  have become un-activated

1 machine also has M$ Office. That also is no longer activated.

Is there a step I missed to prevent this from happening ?

I also intend to load a P--->V WinXP VM on this machine. The original Hardware for that has failed. That runs a piece of GARBAGE, but necessary SW which I cannot re-install.  I can't afford that have that one become un-activated every time a new OS build comes out.

Since each new build of Windows 10 current branch is a "new OS Image build", will this trigger reactivation when upgrading?

Thanks!

Help in installing 3 instances of Windows Server 2012 R2 in one machine

Hi,

I have a laptop that I would like to install 3 instances of Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard Edition.  I would like to first install the Windows server 2012 R2 as being the host OS in this laptop and the next two instances would be as virtual machine utilizing Hyper-V.

I am aware that the Windows server 2012 R2 Standard Edition will max out when I achieve this task.

All I would like to ask is a direction of how I will achieve this set-up.  I am new to all this but I am working my way up to obtaining my certifications.

I will appreciate any help.

Thank you in advance.

Problem with Hyper-V Enhanced Session Mode

I am new to virtual machines so pardon my ignorance.

I have a host machine running Windows Server 2012 R2 and I'm trying to run a VM with Windows 8.1 Enterprise using Hyper-V. I need to be able to use USB devices on the VM.

Please check screenshot for the Hyper-V settings and the VM settings. The VMConnect does not have 'Show Options' to select local resources.

I tried using Remote Desktop Connection to the VM but nothing happens when USB devices are plugged in the host machine.

Not sure what I'm missing here.

Any help in fixing this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

How to determine virtual nics to physical nics?

$

Windows Server 2008 R2

4 port ethernet nic. Prior to enabling HyperV, Windows labeled the 4 port nic card as local area connection 9, 10, 11, 12

After enabling HyperV, in HyperV Manager > Virtual Networks, I now have virtual nics 2, 3, 4, 5

My question is: How do you determine what virtual nic is assigned to which physical nic?

HBA replacement in Hyper V host running 2 DPM VMs

I have a Windows 2012R2 Hyper-V host server that hosts 2 DPM 2012R2 servers. The backend DPM storage is 2 HP MSA arrays connected via FC to 3 old single port QLogic HBA cards. One MSA is connected to 2 cards and the other to 1.  I'd like to replace the old Qlogic cards with 2 new dual port QLogic cards.

I'm unsure what steps I need to take when replacing the cards without losing my backups.  Advice please.

The virtual machine could not start because the hypervisor is not running

Hi All

I have a server with an Intel Server Board and Xeon processor. The server was running Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials. I have done an In Place upgrade to Windows Server 2012 R2 Std and removed the Essentials feature.

I installed Hyper-V and created a virtual machine but when I want to start the machine I keep getting an error saying the hypervisor is not enabled. Prior to installing the Hyper-V roll I had to do a firmware update on the Bios because even with Intel VT enabled and Data Execution prevention enabled Windows kept telling me it could not install the roll because virtualisation was not enabled in the BIOS. After updating the firmware and making sure everything was enabled I went into System Information and checked that the VT was enabled.

Hyper-V - VM Monitor Mode Extensions Yes
Hyper-V - Second Level Address Translation Extensions Yes
Hyper-V - Virtualization Enabled in Firmware Yes
Hyper-V - Data Execution Protection Yes

After making sure they all said yes I installed the Hyper-V role without any issues. After creating the VM I tried to turn it on and then got the error saying that the machine could not start because the Hypervisor is not running.

I have tired

bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype Auto

and restarted the server. And still got the error. I restarted the server and went back into the BIOS and made sure everything that needed to be enabled still was. I shut down the server completely and started it up again. I deleted the VM and completely uninstalled the Hyper-V role, restarted the server, installed the role again, restarted the server but still get the same error.

What else can I try?

Can not export VM from Hyper-V host to the network share folder?!

Hi there,

I’m trying to export VM from our ‘old’ Hyper-V 2008 R2 server onto the ‘new’ 2012 one. Both Hyper-V hosts are in the same Active Directory domain. Since core editions don't have GUI I’m using Hyper-V Manager console on my workstation (Client1).

VM Export

As soon as I click ‘export’ button I have windows popup immediately with the error message: “Failed to create export directory… (0x80070005)”?!

export error

I have setup appropriate share and NTFS permission as recommended by this post: “Error 0x80070005 when exporting Hyper-V VMs over the Network” (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2008849). I even gave Client1 the same permission but still have the same error message?! From Client1 or Server1 I can connect to the \\Server65\Export$ folder, can copy/delete/create folders and files without any problems. What I have missed?! Please help, thanks.

Non-Clustered HyperV Hosts Suddenly Appear With MAC Conflicts

$

Dear all,

we have a strange issue in our virtualization environment. Our non-clustered HyperV hosts suddenly appear with MAC conflicts. One day one host does have that issue, we resolve it, and the other day it's another HyperV host having MAC conflicts.

This is what it looks like:

Get-NetAdapter | sort-object MacAddress | ft name,MacAddress -autosize

Output:

name              MacAddress
----              ----------
NIC1              14-18-77-45-76-02
CORE              14-18-77-45-76-02
vEthernet (VMNet) 14-18-77-45-76-03
NIC2              14-18-77-45-76-03
NIC3              14-18-77-45-76-04
NIC4              14-18-77-45-76-05
SLOT 2 Port 1     A0-36-9F-88-FA-FC
SLOT 2 Port 2     A0-36-9F-88-FA-FD
SLOT 2 Port 3     A0-36-9F-88-FA-FE
SLOT 2 Port 4     A0-36-9F-88-FA-FF

After changing MAC addresses for adapters NIC1 and NIC2 and a reboot, the VMs will be available again and services are back to normal.

This is really strange behavior. Those HyperV hosts are not newly installed. They're running for couple of weeks already, operational. And I wonder why in hell MAC addresses change suddenly.

It really does happen suddenly as users working on terminal servers are being kicked due to unavailability of VMs because of that.

Any ideas?
