Integrations services error 4000 - integration services does not match the expected version

$

I have a 2 node high availability cluster built on 2012r2 DataCentre. One VM continually fails to backup and gives the event log error

"Hyper-V Volume Shadow Copy Requestor failed to connect to virtual machine 'QuadPro' because the version does not match the version expected by Hyper-V (Virtual machine ID 094B6B22-BBED-4D0B-8E47-D8D4D0D3F986). Framework version: Negotiated (0.0) - Expected (3.0); Message version: Negotiated (0.0) - Expected (5.0). To fix this problem, you must upgrade the integration services. To upgrade, connect to the virtual machine and select Insert Integration Services Setup Disk from the Action menu."

When I do the suggested action I get a message stating

"The computer is already running the current version of integration services (version 6.3.9600.16384)".

This VM was built through the failover management console under 2012r2. The VM in question is a 2008r2 standard server running a single database application.

Please advise.

Time Wrong on Domain Controller

Hello

I have a domain controller on a network which runs on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, which in turn runs on a virtual server (Hyper-V).

Lately the time has been wrong on the domain controller and all client machines. Running w32tm /resync on the domain controller sets the time correctly, however, after about a minute it is 40 seconds in front.

The system is setup to synchronise with time.windows.com, which it seems to do perfectly when forced, but then quickly returns to the wrong time again.

While this may not seem like a huge problem, we have a number of process which absolutely must run at the correct time and it is causing a bit of an issue.

Can anyone please help?

Backing up VM from CSV, VSS writer problems ?

Hi, here is my problem.

I've set up 3 hyper-v hosts windows 2012 R2 in a Cluster.  My problem arise when i try to backup my VM's with Veeam, i can take a crash consistent backup but when i try to use the "Application Aware Processing" it fails.

Here is the error reported by Veeam :
Unable to create snapshot (Microsoft CSV Shadow Copy Provider) (mode: Veeam application-aware processing). Details: Writer 'Microsoft Hyper-V VSS Writer' is failed at 'VSS_WS_FAILED_AT_PREPARE_SNAPSHOT'. The writer experienced a transient error. If the backup process is retried, the error may not reoccur. --tr:Failed to verify writers state. --tr:Failed to perform pre-backup tasks.
Make sure VM does not have 'iSCSI Software Target Storage Provider' feature installed.

I've reboot my hosts multiple time and retry the backup job multiple times to.I can see, when i use "diskshadow", that the VM's are excluded from backup because the volume is not in the shadow copy set:

Visual Studio Emulators for Android doesn't work on Windows 10

Hi,

When I try to start emulator the start task fails, with message like below.

10.08.2015 14:06:01: [Critical] Unable to add user to the Hyper-V Administrators group. Exit code 2220.

I was using it on Windows 8.1 where it worked well on the same PC. This proves that my PC meets all requirements and it is properly configured. After clean install of Windows 10 emulator doesn't work.

Hyper-V on my PC is running well. I can create and run 32 and 64 bit vm's. There is problem with creating android vm's by vs emulator. There is no group "Hyper-V Administrators" and it can't be created.

Tried these solutions:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/virtual_pc_guy/archive/2010/09/28/creating-a-hyper-v-administrators-local-group-through-powershell.aspx

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/virtual_pc_guy/archive/2008/01/17/allowing-non-administrators-to-control-hyper-v.aspx

also i tried to recreate InitialStore.xml for Hyper-V with needed group and operations but without success. It seems that hyper-v bundled with windows 10 doesn't require any special group to run, create, manage and remove vm's, switches, etc. Emulator thinks different and it can't assign me to group which does not exists.

How to Fix a Corrupted Hyper-V VHD File

How to recover from a corrupted VHD file?

There is a tool that can recover logical problems in the VHD structure?

A friend called me and told me that his VS R2 Enterprise with 4 VMs suffered a power falure and after that, one of the VMs does not startup anymore. The erros is the same as using VHDMOUNT, something similar: "VHD file could not be mounted"

There is a CHKDSK for VHD files?

How to "rebuild" a corrupetd VHD file? How to analyze logical structure of a offline VHD file?

Can't boot Blade Server into Windows Recovery Environment

$

Hello,

I'm creating a disaster recovery plan, and I'm testing some procedures to perform a bare metal recovery of a Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 (the free one, not the full Windows Server), which is a node in a cluster, and I'm using the native Windows Server Backup tool.

My environment is as follows: 04 HP blades - BL465c Gen8 - running Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 (free), all in one cluster, storing all VMs in a 3Par 7200 storage node.

The idea is to simulate the complete failure of a node, and a bare metal restore of that host, instead of manually reinstalling and configuring it from scratch. So I ran a backup job on that host, and I have a proper backup set to restore. The problem is that I'm unable to start the Recovery Environment to restore the host.

If i try to boot the server with either Hyper-V Server ou Windows Server installation media, be it on CD-Rom, flash drive, external hard disk, pxe boot on WDS server, whatever, I can always perform a clean install, it never shows any errors, whatsoever. The problem is that whenever I click "Repair my computer", which should launch the Recovery Environment (WinRE), it just sits there, on a blue screen, with the mouse cursor.

If I try to start WinRE by pressing F8 before the OS loads, or by holding Shift when clicking Shutdown, or even by typing "reagentc /boottore", when the server starts, it shows the progress bar with the "Loading files" text, and then it stops in a black screen with the mouse cursor, same thing as the procedure above.

I tried dozens of alternatives, like using Windows Server 2012 R2, Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1 medias to boot into WinRE, to no avail. I then tried Windows 7 Pro SP1 media, and it loads winRE, but did not recognized most of the hardware. I supplied the network drivers, and, as expected, it allows me to reach the part where I select the network share where the backup is located, but it throws an error saying that it can't enumerate the backups.

Some other things I've tried:

- Use the Windows Kits tools to create a Windows PE bootable flash drive, and replacing the boot.wim with winre.wim from the install media;

- Use the same tools to inject drivers for graphics, network, chipset, RAID Controller, who knows?

After all that, nothing worked.

The question here is, why on earth the newer WinRE (windows 8 and up) does not load, and the one in Windows 7 does?

And the second question is if anyone has ever had this same problem ans managed to solve it. I've ran out of ideas.

I've read through a lot of forums and comments, and things like "I can set up a fresh server faster than I can recover from backup", well, right now, all I want is to find out why WinRE is not loading, the question is not even about using bare metal recovery.

Thanks in advance.

Hyper-V DVD

HI

I have setup a Hyper-V environment but to my astonishment having setup a physical DVD drive. I can read from it but cannot write to it?

Is this correct?

Everything I have found tells me that I cannot use the physical DVD drive to write to.

I must be wrong and have missed something. Every other virtual machine environment does.

This would make setting up a virtual environment for me, an utter waste of time as it requires the use of a DVD writer to create file backups that are then taken to a secure off site location.

Please let me know if I`ve got this wrong as I`m flabbergasted.

Thanks

Virtual machine IOPs calculation

$

Hi all,

I am aware of the great new tools/techniques with Server 2012 R2 that allow for easy per-VM IOPs information gathering but am wondering if anyone has a good way to get such information on a Server 2012 (NON R2) clustered VM environment? Basically, I am hoping to get per-VM IOPS information; if that doesn't make sense or more information is needed, please let me know, thanks!

Any information/breadcrumbs would be greatly appreciated!

Hyper-V Administrator Group not working

Hello,

Recently I upgraded Hyper-V server from 2008R2  to 2012R2 version. I wanted to use new Hyper-V admins local group instead of going through the process of setting up WMI, DCOM and azman.msc. Unfortunately after adding the non admin groups\users to the Hyper-V admin group, I found out that it doesn't work. It is not just on one server, I tried 2 so far.

When using PC with Windows 10 Pro, the Hyper-V manager is saying that I do not have permissions when trying to add server. Only if I make the user local admin I'm able to do this.

Can anyone tell me why Hyper-V Administrators group is not working.

Mouse Freezes at end of primary installation of Guest O/S

I have Hyper-V 2012 Core running and Hyper Manager on Win7 (a VM on a Mac).

Have just initiated first installation of an XPProSP3 machine but:-

Having reached the point where the mouse is used it won't operate.

I get a small square which can move and I understand this can be the mouse pointer but on the Guest screen there is also a normal mouse pointer that is frozen in the middle of the screen.  In fact clicking the mouse inside the Guest will wake it up but the Start button doesn't react nor does right or left click...

I can release the pointer from the O/S but what I need to do from within the Guest is navigate to where SP3 is located as well as the Integration Service files are and finish off configuring the machine but right now I can't.  And I can't even RDP because the service probably isn't running.

I rebooted the VM in the hope that might clear things but I didn't get any further.

Is there anyway of running the Guest machine from the Server Console?

Is the fact that I am running a virtual Win7 machine (with Parallel tools - similar to Integration Service) confusing things?

Any help / pointers greatly appreciated.

RPC server unavailable - distant Hyper-V

$

I'm trying to set up a Windows server 2008 R2 with hyper-v (on a distant kimsuffi server) and access it by hyper-v manager from a client with windows 7 professional. When I try to connect to the server with hyper-v manager I get an error :RPC server unavailable : Can't establish connection between SERVER-IP and CLIENT-NAME

I used HVremote /show /target:SERVEUR to do a diagnosis, and it says that the server could not ping the client, using the client name. It look like Hyper-V works only in a local network.

I want to set up a VPN between the server and the client to try to emulate a local network and manage the distant hyper-v server.

I haven't found any documentation about how to set up a VPN on a windows server core (I only found how to do it with a GUI).

Is it possible to set up a VPN on a windows server 2008 R2 core, and is it the solution to this error ? If it is, how can I set up the VPN ?

Thank you for your answers.

Hyper-V 2012R2 Dynamic Memory Deep Dive?

$

Is anyone aware of a deep dive in to Dynamic Memory on Hyper-V 2012R2?

I had a problem with a vm that was out of memory with free memory on the host, but it didn't get allocated more. Checked the event logs on the host and vm and couldn't see anything relevant, eventually after a couple of reboots the problem went way.

Been having a look round for a detailed technical explanation of how Dynamic Memory works but I've drawn a blank, just high level implementation/operational articles. I can't find much on the event log messages that are issued for it either.

Would like to understand it in detail to make the trouble shooting easier the next time it occurs.

Dynamic LBFO Load Balancing mode causing issues

$

Hi,

We`re running a couple of virtual machines with the BIG-IP Virtual Edition in a Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V cluster.
These virtual machines have had problems where traffic sent through the virtual machines doesn`t get through due to the MAC Addresses of the physical team NICs being replaced with the Mac Address from the team member actually used to transmit the packet.

Reference:

Windows Server 2012 R2 NIC Teaming (LBFO) Deployment and Management

Blog post - Server 2012 Hyper-V / NIC Team Oddity

One of the comments in the blog-post states what we are seeing:

The reason for the MAC Address switching you’re seeing is that Server 2012 in some cases will replace the source MAC address on Ethernet frames with the MAC Address from the team member actually used to transmit the packet. The reason for this is that if it always kept the MAC Address intact, the switch would throw alarms for “MAC flapping”, i.e. seeing a given MAC Address bouncing back and forth between switch ports.

When we changed the Load Balancing mode from Dynamic to Hyper-V port, the problem was resolved.

Is it possible to solve this problem while still using Dynamic as the Load Balancing mode? Would LACP instead of Switch independent teaming mode solve the problem?

VLANs for VMs on different Servers - how to configure

$

Hi together,

I have 3 Hyper-V Server with multiple VMs on.

I want to have VMs on different hyper-V server to communicate "secure".

For example

VM1 on HVServer 1 should talk to VM10 on HVServer 3 using VLAN10

VM2 on HVServer 1 should talk to VM5 on HVServer 2 using VLAN11

VM3 on HVServer 1 should talk to VM6 on HVServer 2 using VLAN12

VM4 on HVServer 1 should talk to VM11 on HVServer 3 using VLAN13.

All Servers have only one physical NIC and so also only one VSwitch configured per Server.

I need to configure the switch wiht tagged VLAN on the ports where the Server are connected to.

But what is the correct Config on the servers?

Is it necessary to configure any VLAN on the VSwitch? If yes how to configure multiple VLANs for only one VSwitch?

Or do I have to configure the VMs NIC config only?

Can anybody help me understand how this is going?

Hi everyone,

I am actually running SQL Server 2012 SP4 over a Guest Virtual Machine (MS Windows 2012 R2 Datacenter) on Hyper-V (MS Windows 2012 R2) and that guest machine has now more than 50 vDisks. I was wondering if they is any best practice on the number of disks per scsi controller that I should balancing the disks on or if there is no difference on having all disk on the same controller.

Thanks for your help
