Hyper V Inconsistent Mouse Function

$

Hi, .....Please keep in mind that all of the navigating I'm doing in the description below is (Left Click to select, and right click to complete the command or using the Enter key for this specific vm)

Recently I logged onto my Windows Server 2012 to do updates on vm's in the Hyper V Manager Console. When I tried logging into the first vm I could not double click past the Ctrl, Alt Del function. I could only left click once then have to press the Enter key on my keyboard or right click once to get to the username and password.

When I tried switching users, I was directed back to the original user that was on the log in screen. I was forced to log in as a user that I didn't want which was the Administrator account. Once I logged in I tried going to the Control Panel and left clicking on Mouse functions then right clicking to get into it. I was immediately redirected to the Action Center.

Is there a way to make the mouse function perform differently for individual vms in the same Hyper V Manager Console?

PS. I can RDP into this vm directly and the mouse operates correctly. This is something specific to the Hyper V Manager Console. Any ideas?

Hi,

I have parent server Windows 2012 R2. There are 4 Virtual Machines (VM) with Windows 2012 R2 server installed.
I am accessing VMs via remote desktop.

Now three machines are OK. The last one I can connect only via Hyper-V manager.
But mouse pointer is only dot. I checked devices, there is no mouse device.
In the event. Log is message:

The driver \driver\mouclass failed to load.

I tried to install Integrated services bat there is latest version 6.3.9600.16389.

Can anybody help me?

Hyper-V MinimumBandwidthWeight

$

i have 2x 10Gig cards for iSCSI, 2x10 Gig cards for livemigration and 4x 1Gb cards for everything else.

I have set up 2x teams. one called livemigration on the 10 gig cards and one called converged on the 4x gig cards

I have set up a switch on each team

4x Gig cards as Cluster, Management, VMs and a couple of others.

2x 10Gig cards as livemigration  only

iscsi not teamed - they're on their own separate vlans (isolated)

i set up the weights on the converged net as 20,20,20,20,20. Minimum flow of 50

on the livemigration i didnt set any weights

if i do "Get-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name * | ft Name, VMName, MinimumBandwidthWeight, BandwidthPercentage, IsManagementOS" i see the livemigration wieght lumped in with the others but its at zero. Does it aggregate the bandwidth as a whole across both of the switches?

Whats the correct way to configure weighting and flowcontrol? Also i see some people still using hypervport instead of dynamic - when should i used hypervport instead of dynamic???

Thanks

HYPER-V server randomly loosing network connection

Hi all,

Sorry if this is the wrong category for a start!

I have an issue with a hyper-v server that I have setup. Its been working fine for the past few months up until this past week. Its setup with 3 hyper-v windows server 2012 machines installed (which have no issues)

the issue is that the hyper-v server drops is own network connection yet weirdly the virtual machines stay online. I've done a ping to check this and sure enough it was correct. Pinging the main server during one of these "outages" gets a connection timed out. However pinging all the virtual machines i get a response.

Unfortunately I cannot access the server via RDP locally however it starts connecting external to the network. I will try and check the event logs in a little while

Can anyone suggest a solution?

Thanks

how to monitor resources and high availability?

Windows Server 2012 R2

my previous experience with VMs are with Oracle VM, only a few months ago we started with Hyper-V.

with Oracle VM, I was monitoring how the VMs are using up the resources (CPU, RAM, hd) like how much is left. there is also an option to configure high-availability such that when a VM encounters some problems it will try to relocate itself to another blade and restart itself. another feature is let's say I have VM01 and VM02, both created to be redundant of each, is that these two VMs will not locate themselves in the same blade (hyper-v server in this forums lingo).

i'm  trying to find the same feature/capability in Hyper-V, do I start with FailOver Cluster Manager only? how does Hyper-V or how can I find the resources being used by each VM? how do I tell the VMs not to be in the same hyper-v server?

as for the restarting itself I somehow found it in the properties settings but the other features I am unable to. yet.

appreciate any help.

Anti-Affinity through a GUI?

Hi there,

We have most of our servers setup in pairs and we want those pairs to not be on the same Hyper-V host for obvious reason.  I'm told that Anti-Affinity groups are the way to handle that.  Is there any way to work with those in a GUI or can it only be done through Powershell?

I've seen a couple write-ups on Powershell commands but they weren't very clear.  If anyone knows of a straight forward tutorial on how I need to set them up through Powershell (if that's the only way to do it) please shoot me a link.

Thanks!

UPDATE: I should mention that we use Hyper-V and Failover Cluster Manager but we do not have a SCVMM server setup yet.  The hosts are running 2012 (not 2012 R2 yet) if that also makes a difference.

Upgrade Win2012 Hyper-v Data Center to 2012 R2 Data Center

Hi!

We need to upgrade Win2012 Data Center Hyper-v server to 2012 R2 hyper-v. What are the requirements and is it necessary to move VMs to another Hyper-v server before upgrading?

Secondly, the VM is having an additional VHD which is more than 1TB in size. Can we leave this VHD in the same server and upgrade it then move the VM back and attach the vhd?

Thanks.

Events 14050 (failed to register SPN) and 10016 (DCOM permissions) - can't use Hyper-V manager

$

Hi,

Various versions of this question have been asked on the forums and a bunch of different solutions suggested. I've tried all of them but so far with no luck, and that includes saving and running the PS script to increase the TCP port range.

What I really don't understand is how I've got to this point. Everything was running just fine, I could access my Server 2012 R2 machine running Hyper-V from my Windows 10 desktops no problem. Then suddenly one day it stops working. NOTHING CHANGED in my config!

Hyper-V manager works fine locally, so if I RDP to the Server 2012 R2 box I can then bring up Hyper-V manager and launch a VM console etc. The issue is specifically across the network, ie. some sort of firewall problem. My group policy prevents me from simply turning off the firewall although of course I could change it locally for the server machine.

Does anyone have any ideas or ideally a step-by-step to solve this? I've getting 14050 precisely every 2 minutes, and the 10016 DCOM permissions message each time I reboot. I also have event 516 from the DFSN-Server precisely every hour in the "warning" log which in some way relates to namespace but I don't know if that's relevant.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hyper-v with 2 Network Adapters

$

Hi,

I need some advice\help on configuring Hyper-v for use with 2 network adapters. Current setup is as follows:

Server 2008 R2

Hyper-V role installed

2 Network Adapters: NIC1 enabled with static IP address for connectivity to network  (10.10.29.236). NIC2 is not currently connected and is configured to use DHCP.

I ran the wizard to configure an external network and bound it to NIC2 which then created a virtual network LAN adapter.

How should I configure NIC2? Do I need to connect adapter to network and assign a staic IP address to this as well I.E 10.10.29.234? The first NIC will be kept solely for remote access and we need all the virtual machines to communicate with themseleves, the parent host and other physical servers on the network hence why I created an external virtual network. I am just not 100% sure on how to configure NIC2 so help with the above questions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

P2V: Windows 2000 SCSI boot issues and getting the VM to IDE

$

So, I have an application that I don't have any way of updating it or reinstalling it on another new VM. This app happens to be on Windows 2000 and I am trying to do a Physical to Virtual Conversion of it.  I am installing this on my Windows 2008 R2 Hyper-V Host.

However, I am having issues with it booting on hyper-V because it has the BSOD, however, I can get it to boot under Virtual Box by using SCSI boot using "BusLogic" SCSI controller.  I have no issues here when I set Virtual Box to "BusLogic" and boot from SCSI from that.

However, on Hyper-V it won't allow you to boot from SCSI unless you have 2012 R2 and it's on a Generation 2 VM, this is obviously a problem because I need SCSI to be able to boot the image and we are using Windows 2000.

I have tried the instructions here to take out the old drivers and rebooting according to the link below, but it still bluescreens no matter what I do.

NOTE: THIS LINK BELOW DID TAKE OUT THE OLD HARDWARE WHEN I REBOOTED, but it still CRASHES, if use anything other than SCSI "Buslogic".  Nothing else will work.  IDE/SATA/SAS, etc...

http://itknowledgeexchange.techtarget.com/virtualization-pro/removing-old-hardware-after-a-p2v-conversion/

Summary:

I need to Switch the Windows 2000 VHD over from SCSI to IDE and it should work, but because I get the BSOD, the only thing that works is the Buslogic SCSI Adapter in Virtualbox.  This needs to work in 2008 R2 Hyper-V.

Any ideas on this?

server 2012 hyper-v vSwitch performance is terrible

$

Running an HP DL380 G5 single quad core with 8GB of ram.

OS is on RAID-1 146GB 10k rpm SAS

VM's boot from EqualLogic SAN on 24 900GB 10k rpm SAS via iSCSI at 1Gb/sec (as a test lab)

Host OS is Server 2012 with hyper-v role (all updates)

Client VM's are all server 2012

I have been running bandwidth tests between VM's on the same node and have noticed that no matter what I do I cannot get the vSwitch to push more than about 2.0Gb/sec between VM's. I am using iperf as a test to generate bandwidth.

I have tried between 2 VM's, I have tried 3 VM's pushing to 1 VM, I have tried 2 to 2, but no matter how I structure the tests the overall aggregate bandwidth between all the VM's never exceeds ~2Gb/sec over the vSwitch.

Suppoesdly the vSwitch is a virtual 10Gb/sec adapter so I'm wondering why I can only push 20% of that traffic. I'm using iperf because it doesn't require disk I/O to test bandwidth because I want to eliminate the client OS or the SAN as the bottleneck.

Can anyone provide help on getting more performance out of the vSwitch?

Hyper-V 2012 - Dynamic memory not assigning more memory

$

Hi,

We have had a few instances where Dynamic Memory seems to not be assigning more memory when requested.  I'm not sure what causes this or where to look for a solution other than rebooting the VM.

When I look at the VM in FOC, it will show Memory Demand: 5058MB, Assigned Memory: 2048 MB.  This is not good.  The Available memory also shows some wacky numbers when this occurs.

The settings for the VM are 512MB Minimum and 16 Gigs maximum so there's no reason it shouldn't be assign it more.Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Inter-Site Transports

Hello,

I have 8 sites. I have 2 or 3 domain controllers per site. I am building all new 2012  servers with DNS and DHCP installed but I am putting only 1 server in each site and removing the rest. I need to setup replication so If one site goes down they still can replicate and users can logon from another site. I also have a physical domain controller in my datacenter and if something was to happen to all of my virtual machines users would still be able to logon. How would I set this up?

Access Device Manager in Hyper-V 2012

When I try accessing Hyper-V Server 2012's Device Manager via MMC I get "Make Sure that this computer is on the network, has remote administration enabled, and is running the "Plug and Play" and "Remote registry" services.

The Error Was: "The machine selected for remote communication is not available at this time.

I disabled the Hyper-V Firewall and followed the steps outlined here for "Allow remote access to the Plug and Play interface":
http://mikefrobbins.com/2010/12/02/enabling-remote-access-to-device-manager-on-server-core/

Any ideas?

The Hyper-V Manager works as-well-as the Policy Editor, just not Device Manager.

No actual image in the HyperV console during a shutdown of a Windows Server 2012 R2 guest.

Hello,

I have a very strange issue in my HyperV environment. I got a HyperV Host (Windows Server 2012 R2), which contains multiple Windows Server 2008 R2 guests and some Windows Server 2012 R2 guests (latest updates are installed on guests and host). So if I'm going to shutdown a machine with Windows Server 2012 R2 in the VM OS itself (or through the menu in my HyperV Manager), I see no actual image of the progress during the shutdown in the HyperV console but I'm sure that it has something to display, e.g. that the vm is installing updates or just stopping the services. I see a picture of the progress during the shutdown, when I connect to the VM through the HyperV Console and reboot the machine in the OS. With my Windows Server 2008 R2 guests I don't experience the same thing, everything is working fine there, no matter where I shutdown the VM.

Has someone an idea, how to fix that?

Thank you very much and best regards.

VM stays in Status Stopping after live migration failed/was canceled

$

I have a hyper-v Cluster running on Windows 2012 r2. I tried a live Migration from one node of Cluster to another node of the same Cluster. It got stuck by around 65% (if remembered correctly). After 45 minutes nothing has changed so I canceled the Job in the Failover Cluster Manager. The VM went into a Status of "Stopping". After 5 hours it is still in Status "stopping". I haven't found any Information on why it got stuck on the 65% and have just found the error message that the Job got canceled using Failover Cluster Manager events. But nothing saying why it stays in "Stopping" Status. Searched the Internet but I have Trouble finding anything related to the issue I see.

Any ideas?
