Hyper-V Replica: decrease interval between recovery points

$

I'm trying to configure multiple recovery points with Hyper-V Replica (2012).

The problem is that the preconfigured interval between the points is to high for me (1 hour). I would like to have a time gap of 12 hours between each recovery point.

Is this possible?

[Question]HyperV-For_Windows2000, Linux, Windows2003

We have a new 2012 server for Hyper V host, we want to convert the existing Windows 2000, Linux, Windows 2003 server into its guest OS, How can I do? Thanks.

Why can i not migrate VMs between separate clusters in the same domain?

$

I have 4x HV 2012 R2 clusters of 3 Hosts each.

Each 3 node cluster is a site in an AD forest in the same domain

If i try to live migrate a server or quick migrate i can only select the other nodes in the particular cluster i am in. If i switch the guest server off and try and migrate the storage i get access denied errors.

If i remove the guest from clustering and just use Hyper-V to do it i cannot do it either - i get access denied errors

The only way i am able to do it is either locally to the host (not enough disk space) or create a whole new file share with permissions for the hosts having to be given to share and ntfs permissions. This doesnt seem right. What are the requirements/caveats for exporting from Hyper-V and Hyper-V clusters?

Thanks

How to run Hyper-V guest at native 30" monitor resolution

$

I am in the process of migrating a number of production systems to Hyper-V (Running on Server 2008R2) but a requirement is that these run at the native resolution of our 30" monitors in portrait mode (1600x2560). Clients connecting are Windows 7 Professional x64 SP1.

How can i increase the resolution of the guest VM's beyond 1600x1200?? Is it possible to emulate a graphics card or 30" monitor to make these higher resolutions available in display properties?

If I connect using RDP 8.1 (Installed on the clients) and specify the resolution it defaults back to 1600x2048 and leaves black borders at the top and bottom.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Hyper-V USB on DL380p Gen8 with P420i Controler.

Hey Everyone,

So I am wondering if anyone has run into the same issue that I am having... also if they have found a fix? I have a HP DL380p Gen 8 Server, With P420i Raid Controller with 25 disks.

I am trying to setup and configure a Hyper-V USB Stick with HyperV Server 2016 core. I am looking to use to use storage spaces so I have set the 420i to hbamode so the OS can see the disks. ( Raid 0 and pass through do not work with out doing this it seems for this controller) However when I do this and boot the USB copy of HyperV I get the Inaccessible_boot_Device error on boot. Now I have added the Drivers for the P420i but this has also made no difference.

On a side note I also tried doing a direct install to a Hard disk and although the windows installer could see all the drives it would not install.. This is because the installer states none of the drives where bootable... So I am wondering if this is related to the above issue.

Now leaving the fact that I am playing with 2016 to the side for the moment and also keep in mind that I have of course had a poke about in the bios in relation to the above boot issue ( Fyi, Not really anything was found there to asssit )

Any one have any ideas ?

Cheers!

Hi all, I'm trying to analyse the memory dump for a W2012 Hyper-V which rebooted and it seems to point to a faulty driver. Below is the memory dump which I'm trying to find out which driver is the root cause.

Slow transfer between VMs

$

Hi!

We need to transfer data between VMs on different hyper-v servers but the transfer is very slow with variations like from 30 to 70 MB/s. Is it normal? Both are HP DL580 Servers with multiple NICs teaming and assigned as virtual switches.

Any Suggestions?

Thanks.

ODX on Dell MD 3XXX Storage will corrupt the VHDX

$

I have found that the latest version of the Dell MD Storage has ODX on by default. When using the storage migration with this turned on the VHDX files transfer instantly between the LUN's but the VHDX is corrupt and causes the Virtual Server to blue screen and then to never boot again.  I have yet to find a way to recover any data.

My current work around is to disable ODX on the array itself which means that the data is transferred by the hosts, but does not corrupt the VHDX files.

show storageArray odxsetting;

set storageArray odxEnabled=false;

Memory utilization is very high when assigned dynamic for VM

Hi,

We are using a MSSQL DB server in one of the VM hosted in Hyperv Windows server 2012 R2 DC and assigned the 16GB dynamic memory. This server utilization is very high above 90% every time, In resource monitor, saying that SQL service is taking only 4GB and other process approximately 2 to 3 GB. I am not able to find out where the memory is dropped, so kindly help us to resolve this issue.

Find below the memory structure assigned for VMs and memory utilization report.

Memory assigned as dynamic:-

Startup memory : 16384MB

Minimum memory : 8192 MB

Maximum memory : 16384 MB

Memory buffer percentage : 20

Memory utilization showing in VM server:-

In use : 14.1 GB

Available : 1.9 GB

committed : 14.3/18.4 GB  Cached : 1.4 GB

Paged pool : 173 MB

non-paged pool : 59.1 MB

Hyper-V 2012 R2 x64 UpdateID

Hello,

I'm trying to write a powershell script in order to manage my updates for multiple Hyper-V 2012 R2 machines. To problem i stumbled upon is that i am unable to find the updateId for it so i can manage the hotfixes/updates i download.

To be more clearly, i use the standalone hypervisor, not a Windows Server 2012 R2 with an added role of hyper-v server.

Does it have the same UpdateId as Windows Server 2012R2 ? Is it possible ?

Thanks.

How Hyper-V server 2012 shares processor usage over virtual machine?

I have a Hyper-V server 2012 installed on my physical server (bare-metal). For testing purposes I created 2 VM machines (windows 7) and began testing server processor usage while VM runs at 100% processor usage. For tests I tried using "HeavyLoad" computer stress program as well as generating a complex image using "Blender" program for 3D rendering.
The thing I noticed was that VM at full processor usage barely shows any usage on server processor. Usage on server processor only spikes up when I connect to VM using Hyper-V manager console. I tried the same test using remote desktop connection but the load didn't spike up while connected to the machine. What I want to know is how hyper-v server shares CPU time over virtual machines? Thank you.

I use this powershell command to check CPU load:

Get-WmiObject win32_processor | select LoadPercentage |fl

Hyper-V Replica VLANs

$

Hello everyone,

small question:
Are the VLAN-Settings of Source-VM and Replica-VM independent from each other?

Background is that we are replicating VMs cross-datacenter and can't have the same VLAN_IDs. So upon failover, I need to change the VLAN_ID. I'm not sure though if the VLAN_ID is being replicated from the source VM to the replica VM.

Thanks,
Jens

Cant delete checkpoint

Hi,

We have a servere 2012 R2 cluster with 2 hosts. We have a VM that has 1 checkpoint and 49 recovery checkpoint most likely created by DPM.

When we try to delete the checkpoint OR delete the checkpoint Subtree we get the error :

Virtual machine failed to generate VHD tree: 'Catastrophic failure'('0x8000FFFF').

Even using the powershell cmd "Get-VMSnapshot -VMName <VM> | Remove-VMSnapshot",

we get the same error.

Since max checkpoints are 50, we cant make a new checkpoints, so what do we do?
