Hi Everyone,

Can anyone advise what is causing the below .avhd files if there are NO snapshots?

I'm assuming it could be our ARCSERVE Hyper-V Backup software using the VSS Hyper-V writer.

SERVER Data_hex-GUID.avhd 6Mb

SERVER Data_hex-GUID.avhd 12Mb

SERVERe Data-AutoRecovery.avhd 33Mb

SERVER OS_hex-GUID.avhd 8Gb

OS-AutoRecovery.avhd

Thoughts and comments from the community would be appreciated.

Thank you

Hyper V Virtual Machine Error: Cannot set/change the partition property

Hello. I have installed the Hyper V server role on Windows Server 2012 Enterprise edition. I am having trouble running my virtual machine. I have installed hyper V, opened the hyper V manager, and created a new Hyper V Virtual Machine. When I attempt to Start the virtual machine I keep recieving the following error message:

---------------------------

The application encountered an error while attempting to change the state on 'Windows8.1'.

'Windows 8.1' could not initialize.

Failed to set/change partition property: The system cannot find message text for message number 0xWindows8.1 in the message file for 67F2B048-AB08-4532-B844-39C5D7FC204B. '0x8007013D'.

(See Details Button)

'Windows8.1' could not initialize. (Virtual machine ID 67F2B048-AB08-4532-B844-39C5D7FC204B.)

'Windows8.1' failed to set/change partition property: The system cannot find message text for message number 0xWindows8.1 in the message file for 67F2B048-AB08-4532-B844-39C5D7FC204B. '0x8007013D'

------------------------

What I have tried to do is mount the virtual hard disk to a drive letter so it could find the hard disk. Ive been thinking that the problem is that the VID text file probably isnt installed in the proper location. I have found a file in the virtual machine folder that i created this machine that was named after the VID. Im not sure what the 0x8007013D is but I think that I have to put this into another folder somewhere. After successfully adding a drive letter nothing has changed. Please help me with this error message.

Issue with Intel Virtualization after installing Hyper-v

Dears,

I have an issue with my HP server (DL380Gen8 with 2690 v2).

After i install Windows server 2012 R2 standard and run an intel tool (Processor identification tool) and SecureAble to check if the Intel Virtualisation is enabled. Both tool is returning with Yes and everything is OK.

But once i install Hyper-v and reboot the server every tool is reporting Intel Virtualisation and Intel VT-X is not available.

I want run some application (Android emulator for app) on couple of Hyper-v VMs which need the technology enabled. So far i don't know how to enable the feature after installing Hyper-V.

I checked with HP and they told me it is enabled in BIOS and Hardware and need to check with Microsoft.

Please help me in sorting this out.

Thanks

Creating bootable USB drive for UEFI computers

I am trying to figure out the steps for creating a bootable USB drive for UEFI computers using an install.wim or an ISO. In the past, for BIOS, these instructions worked properly: http://www.altaro.com/hyper-v/installing-and-running-hyper-v-from-a-usb-stick/ (Note: dism can be used for applying the image rather than imagex)

I have found a lot of resources for creating a bootable install USB, but I am hoping to essentially create a USB with Hyper-V installed that is portable.

KB2920189 fails to install on generation 2 vm's

It looks like there is a problem with the KB2920189 update.

When trying to install it via Windows Update on some servers, they all fails the installation of this update - they are all running 2012 R2 inside generation 2 Hyper-V machines.

Has this update been tested with the UEFI implementation inside Hyper-V?

Server 2003 Physical to Virtual - BAD_POOL_CALLER

Have been dealing with this one all day... Any help would be appreciated.

I have a client with a server with failing hardware running Server 2003. I am attempting to do a physical to virtual conversion and host it on a Hyper-V Server (Server 2012 R2). The old server is running RAID and has one drive split into 2 partitions, OS and DATA.

I used Disk2vhd for the conversion and move the vhd over the Hyper-V host. I then created a new VM and selected this existing drive. The VM Server then boots up fine. The problem is when I add the Hyper-V Integration Services to the VM. It appears to install correctly then the system tells me I need to reboot. After the reboot I get a blue screen:

BAD_POOL_CALLER

*** STOP: 0x000000C2 (0x00000044, 0x00000000, 0x80000000, 0x00000000)

The only way I can access the server again is to either use "Last Known Good Configuration" or Safe Mode. I have tried many things, so rather than list them off, if you have any suggestions I will tell you if I tried that already.

Thanks!

Ryan

Hello

I have a physical server in wich I instaled  Windows Server 2012 R2. This server as two NIC and I have created one NIC Team.

My plan is too install hyper-v on this physical server and then inside the hyper-v I will create my PDC server and my virtual machines.

My question is, whwn I'm installing the Hyper V in the phisical server, wich NIC should I use? The Nic Team, or should I leave one nic to aceess the physical server and select the other to use in Hyper-V?

What is using VHDX files?

I am deleting vhdx files from our Hyper-v system that are no longer needed.  There are two vhdx files that I cannot delete as it says they are "in use".  I cannot see that there are any VMs based on these two vhdx files, though the Modified Date for both of them is within the past day.

How can I find out what is using these files?

Connect to Hyper-V on Win Server 2012 from Windows10 client

Hello, I have really big issue to connect to my hyper-v installed on Windows Server 2012 core, I was using it on my laptop as always, but after I upgraded to Windows 10, I am no longer able to connect. I added Windows feature Hyper-V manager, I tried to add hyper-v to trusted host because it is not part of domain.  I changed the dcomsettings for anonymous login.  still no luck, When I try to connect from windows 8.1 pc with the same credentials and same address and on the same network it works well.

I know there is some new version of hyper-V manager in windows10 , version 6.3 but I need to manage these servers without upgrading to Windows Server 2012 R2.

I am still getting errors like Check that the Virtual Machine Management service is running and you are authorized to connect to server. I am even able to connect to hypervisor through device manager. As I mentioned above, I have rights to connect because it works from another PC.

what else can I try to solve this problem ?

Thank you , Best regards Lucas

Hi,

We are facing slow file copy paste issue in Hyper-V server. I have 10G nic on server (Teaming Done) and this server is connected with 10G switch. I have configured LACP on switch side and on server side I am using LACP mode in teaming.

Issue : When I am sending data from this Hyper-V host server to other server, I am gating around ~4Gbps speed, but when I am doing copy from Remote server to local Hyper-V Host server it gives only ~1.2Gbps speed.

Hyper-V Virtual Domain Controller Server : Going on/offline constantly.

Everyone,

I have a hyper-v virtual Domain controller (server 2012) that started going offline randomly first of this week.  Tuesday I opened a ticket with microsoft, of which has not really helped ...i feel tossed around between network/backup/fileshare teams. No offense meant, but i can't get a call so a bit frustrated.

The host is online 100%, no outtages or downtime.  I have other virtuals on this host that are working 100%.  This DC, going down all the time, and it's not dependable at all.

Do you all have any suggestions at what could be causing this?   I'm open to any suggestion/help.

Troubleshooting i've tried:

i moved the DC off the onboard nic thinking it was overloaded, and i installed a dedicated nic with updated drivers/etc.  On the new/dedicated nic, it does the same thing.

Thoughts?  i'm at your mercy guys.  My next step is to completely start over.  I don't want to do that if at all possible.

How to set the NetworkCategory of a Hyper-V Internal adapter to Private

I want to allow my client VM (Ubuntu Linux) to access the host (Windows 10) via a Hyper-V Internal adapter. Everything works fine if I manually set the NetworkCategory of the Internal adapter to Private using the following powershell commands:

Get-NetConnectionProfile
Set-NetConnectionProfile -InterfaceIndex # -NetworkCategory Private

However, when I restart the host the adapter is set back to Public.

How can I permanently set the NetworkCategory to Private?

VM stuck at "Updating your system - 6%"

I'm having the same problem referenced at https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/73e91012-c779-4a41-9bd5-02ae4db16a67/2012r2-hyperv-guest-stuck-updating-your-system-6?forum=winserver8gen. I started with a 2012 R2 VM that was last used in May, booted it yesterday, and applied the 121 pending patches from WU. Now it hangs at 6% when restarting.

Steps I've tried:

  1. From the recovery prompt, removing c:\windows\winsxs\pending.xml. File wasn't present on the target system.
  2. Running the script from https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/ScriptCenter/5b4a7114-218b-466c-a9c1-7eb2f725e707/ on the host. The cert shows as correct in the registry.
  3. Disabling and re-enabling secure boot.
  4. Running dism.exe /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions, which produced errors but didn't fix the problem.

Disable VMQ on 2008 R2 Server Core installations

We have a two node 2008 R2 Hyper-V Cluster running on Server core

Because the hosts completely loose all network connections about twice a year, we have to disable VMQ on all network adapters. Each node has three 1GB Broadcom 4 Port NIC's. How can we do that?

- All Blog Posts and information is about using Powershell with Disable-NetAdapterVmq. But Disable-NetAdapterVmq doesn't work on 2008 R2. It's supported only on Server 2012 and above.

- Disabling VMQ in Device Manager doesn't work. Remote Device Manager on server core is Read-Only.

- The HP Network configuration utility is installed on the Hosts. There are some configurable NIC setting, but not VMQ.

- There are some scripts for disabling VMQ for Intel Adapters, but haven't found anything for Broadcom adapters.

Thank you all for any advice!

Franz

Event ID 16945 An underlying Macaddress conflict. Server 2012R2 Hyper-V

Hi Guys

I have recently created a 3 Node Hyper-V Cluster with 3 HP Hosts.

The Server version on all 3 servers is Server 2012R2.

The cluster ran perfectly until I started getting Mac conflicts and lost all communication to my hosts. SRIOV is enabled.

What I have picked up on is that my TEAM, vSwitch and one physical nic all share the same MAC. In most cases I have read up on there is a conflict of 2 duplicate Mac addresses. In my case the one server has a duplicate of 3. I have even tried to manually change the Mac address but to no avail.

I have also read up on checking drivers and so forth my drivers are the latest version according to HP and windows updates are up to date.

There is no real answer out there as to why I am conflicting and my entire cluster losing communication. The quick work around is to Disable the Nic that is conflicting and all comes up immediately.

Your assistance is much aapreciated.

Thanks

Joining a pair of Hyper-V 2012 Cluster servers to Virtualized domain Controller

Hi,

I've seen this similar question asked a couple of times but not exactly to what I wanted to know.

I'm setting up a Lab of 3 physical Hyper-V 2012 and I want to create a cluster. The DC will be virtualized.

So if I join the 3 servers to this Domain, will I have the chicken-before-the-egg issue when I reboot these machines?

What I'm concerned is that the Hyper-V and Clustering service won't be able to start without the DC being available.

Thanks.

Update Hyper-V integration services to version 6.2.9200.20873

Hello,

We are facing some issues with Veeam backups on few VM's running on Hyper-V running Windows Server 2012. All the guests are running Windows Server 2008 R2 Std SP1.

So basically backup jobs on these 3 VM's have been failing. Have checked quite number of things and one thing we wanted to do was to update Hyper-V integration services. I have already now gone ahead and done integration services version upgrade to 6.2.9200.16433, however I don't know how to bring it up to 6.2.9200.20873??

When running upgrade again it says "the computer is already running the current version of IS 6.2.9200.16433"

Any ideas? Is integration services getting loaded from Hyper-V host itself?

thanks, Gary

HP Thin Client machines using Hyper-V.

System(Windows) Update notification will come up on screen asking "Update Now" or "Not Now".   If "Not Now" is selected, the Hyper-V session is immediately closed and user is taken back to login screen.
