Hyper-V R2 Cluster Network Name

0
0
Although my new Hyper-V R2 cluster appears to be functioning fine I noticed an odd message.  The message "The cluster network name is not online" is display when I display information about the cluster. I noticed that the IP Address assigned to the cluster name is defined on the Public/Mgmt network defined in the cluster.  However, this network doesn't permit cluster communication since it is only used for managing the host.  What network should the cluster name be on?

Realtime VM's on Hyper-V

I'm trying to set up Hyper-V 2012 R2 to run a VM realtime.  I've set up a dedicated 2012 R2 machine freshly installed with nothing but Hyper-V added, and the VM's I've set up in Hyper-V have unacceptable latencies.  I'm trying to vitrualize a 10 year old intel atom bare metal gateway with 1Gb RAM  onto a 2 year old quad xeon on SSDs with 32Gb RAM and I can't because the VM's latencies are to high at times and breaks the datastream.

How do I deploy Hyper-V in an instance where latencies are critical? What box do I have to check to make Hyper-V stop going all Walter Mitty with it?

where I have to make VHDX drive for backup reason of my external drive on the host or on the guest ? and how I can mount it?

hi,

I have made for backup purpose  from my external drive a vhdx drive on the host OS with VHDX application

1-which steps I have to take now  to mount it on my VM?

2- or do I have to make VHDX drive on my VM(GUEST) first in place of on the host OS  ?

Configure Hyper-V host to provide access to an HBA to a VM

0

We have a QLogic HBA attached to one of our Hyper-V hosts and it is visible by the host itself. Our Backup Exec server is on a VM on this host and need access to this HBA as the HBA is directly connected to our HP Tape Storage. Previously the server was on a VMWare host, which we had 'Passthrough' enabled for this card, but in Hyper-V there is no 'passthrough' option. I created a vSAN and added the connected port to the vSAN, then added a Fiber Channel Adapter to the VM. But as soon as I start the VM, I get the following errors:

Event ID 12004: Synthetic FibreChannel Port: Failed to start reserving resources with Error 'Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.' (0x800705AA).

Event ID 32161: Operation for virtual port (C003FF02CE760006) failed with an error: No physical port available to satisfy the request

I'm out of ideas, have been reading for the past 2 weeks and haven't been able to find anything. Any ideas?

VM's are stuck in cluster

Hi all,

We have 3 nodes HyperV failover cluster on Windows Server 2012 R2. DELL's EQL storage connected to all nodes by iSCSI and mapped as single CSV volume.

Resently we have faced serious performance problems with VM's in cluster. VM's are very slow or hang (Ping are ok, other connections are very-very slow or unavailable). Moving VM from node to node fix the problems for a small period of time but it hangs again.

Not clustered VM's that stored on local drives are OK. We don't see any errors or warnings on NICs or on Storage. Storage load is normal.

Sometimes there are disk queue peaks on guest OS (0 and then peak to 50 or somtimes to 100 and 0 again).

There are no abnormal events on host servers.

Also I have faced that VHD's are readed by System process (see screnshot). There are a lot of reads and 0 writes. VM's can be even turned off but reads are high. Is it norman?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi

We have 2 X Windows 2012 Datacenter edition host servers configured with Hyper V clustering. With the cluster on each server there are 2 high available virtual servers which are again clustered and using for Symantec EV and MS SQL 2008 R2 which is working perfectly fine.

Later on these 2 host servers we assigned additional LUNs and configured virtual servers, which are not part of cluster for the development team. We received below error while restarting some of the servers

Later we removed the attached SCSI controllers (1-3) which are configured on physical drives  I-K and then local virtual servers started successfully. Here we doubt this happened due to the drive letters used by the disks which are now part of clustered shared volumes.

We are looking for advise of configuring independent virtual servers on hosts which are part of Hyper-V cluster

Thanks in Advance

Dynamic memory allocation failure

0

Dear reader,

We sometimes have a problem where our windows 2012 r2 RDS virtual servers, that reside on windows 2012r2 hyper-v hosts, loose their dynamic memory and only have their startup memory left to work with. Users start complaining that things are very slow etc.

If I check several screens (RDS Broker load balancing, hyper-v manager, cluster manager and the vm's task manager) it's clear that the vm only has its startup memory allocated. I'm not sure if this happens instantly or immidiatly after the nightly reboot. To resolve the problem we have to call all users on the vm where it happens and ask them to logoff (if they are even able to), and then we reboot the machine.

I have checked the logs from the machine where the VM resides on and the logs from the vm itself. But I cannot find anything. We also have alot of windows 2008r2 vm's with dynamivc memory, but none of those have ever had this problem.

Searched the internet, but so far it seems we are only.

Can anyone give me a lead to troubleshoot this?

Best regards,

Ruud Boersma

Hyper V + Sofs on same machine

Hey guys.

Last week i saw a presentation over Sofs and Hyper V Clustering.

My thoughts are now, is it supported to run a sofs and hyperv-cluster on the same Hardware?

I have 2 Host Systems which are connected to an iSCSI storage and i was thinking about to use sofs instead of using the iscsi luns for the HyperV Cluster.

What do you guys think?

2008 R2 VMs on 2012 R2 Hyper-V Hosts show unidentified networks or non-domain networks(ie network #)

Starting last week, I have 3 2008 VMs on a 2012R2 Host that will loose its connection to our domain ( ie cant ping or RDP).  All 3 servers have static IP address.  Now I can  make a change to the virtual adapter and reboot and then reassign the static IP and the server will connect to the domain network and will be fine until the next morning.

These servers were migrated via SCVMM about a month ago and have been fine tilll a week ago.

I have made changed to the Host virtual network switch with no affect on this maddening behavior.

The 2012 Host has 4 NICs in a team.

Thanks in advance!

How can I enable replication for my Guest Cluster that uses shared .vhdxs?

0

Hi.

I have just tried to enable replication on my Guest Cluster and received a big NO!!

The message I get says that replication can't be used with shared virtual hard disks.

I want to have an offsite copy of my data, and a backup.

What can I do now ?

Surely MS have thought out this?

Thanks

Hyper-V over SMB3 checkpoint very long creation time

Hello,

Have SOFS cluster for Hyper-V servers and Hyper-V clusters.

For VM's which are placed on SOFS server checkpoint creation takes enormous time. Checkpoint of VM takes from 1 to 10 minutes, depending on VM's ram size.

The same VM in local storage creation of checkpoint takes about 20-30 seconds.

Any thoughts why ?

Hi,

I would like to understand if there is any way through which we can deploy the OVF to Hyper-V server. I am looking at some API or some powershell script which can be of help here ?

Thanks in advance.

Cluster connectivity issue

Hello all,

I have some issue with my Hyper-V Cluster.

My cluster settings is 2 Dell r620 server with DAS, 1 team of 2 NIC on each server for cluster.

I have some random connectivity issue on host, never the same either host1 or host2.

When it happen, some of my Vms lost connectivity and users can't work properly.

Each time, i move Vms to other node and then i reboot the host then its fine for a while.

Yesterday, its happen again, so i change my teaming settings, from active/active to active/passive then cluster come back.

I suspect a NIC issue, either teaming or something else.

Could you let me know if you get this kind of issue,

Thanks you so much,

Yvan

How to share connection through Loopback interface and internal Hyper-V Switch ?

0

Hello everybody.

It's been literally 4 hours since I have been hammering my head on the wall trying to give internet connection to my Hyper-V VMs through ICS + Microsoft Loopback Interface and Hyper-V internal Virtual Switch. Let me explain it in more details.

What I need to achieve is basically be able to communicate with my Hyper-V VMs even when the host doesn't have a routed connection.

I am not a expert when it comes of networking. What I am trying to do is I am sharing the wireless NIC connection through the loopback interface through ICS, than I have created a internal Virtual Switch through the Hyper-V Virtual Switch Manager, and I gave it a static IP of the Loopback subnet, in this case I gave to the switch 192.168.137.10 since the Loopback IP is 192.168.137.1.

But unfortunately it does not work this way. None of the VMs are able to gain any IP from the Virtual Switch interface.

I have also tried creating a External Hyper-V Virtual Switch interface binding it directly with the loopback interface.

Unfortunately it didn't work either this way.

What am I doing wrong? I would love some help.

Thanks

Network Adapter Status 'Degraded, ProtocolVersion' - how to resolve

0
0

I have a Hyper0V VM farm and most of the virtual adapters show status of Degraded. Here's what I see. FWIW: I'm running this on Client Hyper-V, and Windows 10.

PSH [C:\foo]: Get-VMNetworkAdapter * | ft vmname, switchname,status -a

VMName      SwitchName Status
------      ---------- ------
SQL2012     Internal   {Degraded, ProtocolVersion}
SRV1        Internal   {Degraded, ProtocolVersion}
Win10Client client     {Ok}
DC1         Internal   {Degraded, ProtocolVersion}
RTR1        Internal   {Degraded, ProtocolVersion}
RTR1        DMZ        {Degraded, ProtocolVersion}
SRV2        DMZ        {Degraded, ProtocolVersion}
RTR2        DMZ        {Degraded, ProtocolVersion}
RTR2        client     {Degraded, ProtocolVersion}

Any clues as to a) what 'degraded' means in this context, and how to resolve this issue?
