Disable guest aplication interaction during Host level backup

0
0

Hi,

I have a 3 nodes Hyper-V Cluster, the hosts are Windows 2012 R2 Datacenter.

Some of my guests are Windows Server 2008 R2 with Exchange 2010.

When i backup the Exchange VMs the guest is aware of the backup and it flush the transaction logs.

I want to disable this feature. Every solution I found refers to this KB:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/975354

but this KB refers to Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V host, I'm not sure that it applies also to Windows 2012 R2 Hyper-V hosts.

Is there somebody that tried on Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V host? Does it still apply?

How to recover from a corrupted VHD file?

0

There is a tool that can recover logical problems in the VHD structure?

A friend called me and told me that his VS R2 Enterprise with 4 VMs suffered a power falure and after that, one of the VMs does not startup anymore. The erros is the same as using VHDMOUNT, something similar: "VHD file could not be mounted"

There is a CHKDSK for VHD files?

How to "rebuild" a corrupetd VHD file? How to analyze logical structure of a offline VHD file?

Packets sent out the wrong Interface on Hyper-V 2012 Failover Cluster

0

Here is some background information:
2 Dell PowerEdge servers running Windows Server 2012 w/ Hyper-V in a Failover Cluster environment.  Each has:
1 NIC for Live Migration 192.168.80.x/24 (connected to a private switch)
1 NIC for Cluster Communication 192.168.90.x/24 (connected to a private switch)
1 NIC for iscsi 192.168.100.x/24 (connected to a private switch)
1 NIC for host management with a routable public IP (*connected to corp network) w/ gateway on this interface
1 NIC for Virtual Machine traffic (*connected to corp network)
All NICs are up, we can ping the IPs between servers on the private network and on the public facing networks.  All functions of hyper-v are working and the failover cluster reports all interfaces are up and we receive no errors.  Live migration works fine.  In the live migration settings i have restricted the use of the 2 NICs (live migration or cluster comm).

My problem is that our networking/security group sees on occasion (about every 10 minutes with a few other packets thrown in at different times) syn packets that are destined for the 192.168.80.3 interface goes out of the public interface and is dropped at our border router.  These should be heading out of the 192.168.80.x or 192.168.90.x interfaces without ever hitting our corporate network. Anyone have an idea of why this might be happening?  Traffic is on TCP 445.

Appreciate the help.

I have created a bare metal guest OS, restored a windows server 2012R2 image on the VHDX. However so far i haven't successfully able to make my guest VM make use of that VHDX. I did go through various forums but i am missing some thing which i need help. I want my guest VM to use the OS that i restored. If someone can share the exact bcdedit commands that would be great. Thanks

2012 R2 Hyper V Cluster node Shared Volumes Offline after replacing failed HBA

Hello,

I have a problem regarding Hyper V 2012R2 cluster deployment with 2 nodes. Recently I had a HBA failure on the second node, which resultet in loss of connectivity for CSV and Quorum volumes.

Failed Cluster node 2 went to "failover mode through network" to keep all guest VM on the node alive. Later I migrated all the VMS to the working node 1 and replaced the failed HBA on node2. I needed to reconfigure SAN network due to new WWNs of the replaced HBA and arranged LUN mapping to establish connection to Quorum and CSV.

Everything looks ok, server boots normal, "disk management" inside node 2 OS has both Quorum and CSV LUN visible again, but it is in reseverd mode (not online). That is why (I persume) also under "Failover Cluster Manager" Node 2 has no disk visible, attached. But it should in order to be able to migrate VMs located on CSV back.

Tried restarting node 2, but the shared volumes stay in reserved state. This is production setup.

How can I establish a working node2 again, without any major downtime for the runnig VMs?

What is the correct procedure, as I am new to MS HyperV Clustering?

Any help Will be appreciated.

Kind Regards,

David.

Create Share File To Connect Cluster Between Two Nodes

Map a SAN LUN to a WS2012 R2 virtual machine

Hello,

I need some help from someone who has dealt with this before.

I have:
an HP DL380 G6 running the unlimited eval copy of Hyper-V Server 2012 R2.
an HP MSA 2040 SAN enclosure.
a WS2012 R2 Std. x64 virtual machine running on the Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 host.
an HP/LSI SAS 9207-8e host adapter.

I've been asked to configure the WS2012 R2 Std. x64 virtual machine as a file server, but really the data will be on an MSA 2040 SAN enclosure volume, so I need to map an LUN from the MSA 2040 to the WS2012 R2 Std. x64 virtual machine.

Of course I can't actually install the HP/LSI SAS 9207-8e host adapter into the WS2012 R2 Std. x64 virtual machine, but is there an emulation/software solution for this?

If I install the physical HP/LSI SAS 9207-8e host adapter into the physical Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 host, will I be able to add a virtual version of said host adapter to my VM?

I'm searching and reading posts now, but if someone, who knows, has the answer, I would really appreciate a pointer or two.

Thanks in advance for your time and help.

Server 2012 R2 w HyperV Role - Guest NICs disconnecting during backup Event ID 12598

Hello, we are seeing Guest VM's disconnect from the network in the event logs during our backup window. We are using CommVault 10 SP8 on Hyper-V 2012 R2 with Hyper-V role, we are fully patched and using the current Integration Services. We see this on both stand alone Hyper-V servers and clusters. The servers are being backed up with VSS and are not going into a saved state as far as I can tell, they are being hot backed up.

We are seeing event ID 12598 network adaptor disconnected  from virtual network on the host logs under Hyper-V-SynthNic. I would like to try and stop this from happening so monitoring software will stop marking servers offline. Any ideas?

Can not connect to Hyper-V host in virtualized environment

Hello,

I'm just trying to evaluate/test Hyper-V 2012 R2 server. Here is my environment

Win 7 installed on metal (no firewall) - 192.168.98.38, running VMWare Workstation

Win 8 running in VMWare (192.168.98.111)

I installed Hyper-V as a virtual machine in VMWare. No issues, running and I can access options, see IP (192.168.98.51)

Enabled Hyper-V Manager inside Win 8. I can ping Hyper-V host from my Win8 vm (enabled pinding), I can see all 3 machines on my router. They all running.

However, when I try to connect or remote desktop to 192.168.98.51 - it doesn't let me. It says "Network name can not be resolved... etc."

Inside Hyper-V I have both remote management and desktop enabled.

Server 2012 VM stuck on "Please Wait" during boot up

I am running Server 2008 R2 with Hyper-V. All virtual machines are stored on an iSCSI SAN. I have three host servers in a failover cluster.

Yesterday, one of my host machines failed and shut down unexpectedly. Failover occured as expected but the machines which were on that host were shut down uncleanly. One of them was a VM running Server 2012 which runs SCCM 2012.

I got the failed host machine back online and spread my VMs out over the 3 servers again. At this point I had not started my 2012 VM back up.

I tried to boot my server 2012 VM today and it has been stuck on a dark blue server 2012 screen with Please Wait and a spinning circle for 45 minutes at the time of writing this post.

I don't know what's happened to this machine - or why it is stuck. It was shut down cleanly yesterday when the failure occurred. Is there anything I can do to get this VM up and running again?

Edit:

It finally finished booting so I could log on. It took an hour and 6 minutes to get to the login screen. If anyone has any ideas why this might have taken so long (all other VMs are fine and boot quickly) and how to prevent it from happening in the future, I'm all ears!

It's now taking a while to actually login, mind you... stuck on applying user settings... so presumably there's still a problem somewhere.

Recommended and supported Hyper-v Server configurations

I am looking for a document that will give me some suggested Hyper-v supported and recommended server configuration. Recently our company rolled out two Hyper-V servers. The host system is configured to be the Domain Controller.

One server was configured to be a Host Server Domain Controller and a virtual server Exchange server.  The Exchange server failed three times.  The host domain Controller had been put into services and was active.  I finally called Microsoft and was told this would not a supported or recommended configuration and it would continue to fail.  The technical help I had was very good and he pointed me in the right direction to building it directly on the domain controller.  Since the Exchange server had already been built and the scheme to the domain controller had been extended this was horrendous but it worked.  "Thank you Microsoft technical team."

The second Hyper-V server is setup the same the host server is the DC.  The current virtual server is a SQL server.  This seems to be working. We had some issues at first with network connections but I made some DNS entries and it seems to be stable now.  This system is to have an Exchange host added to it and I'm worried that it will have the same issues as the first server.  I would like to add it directly to the DC as I finally did the first time but I'm worried it will make the SQL server fail.

This is currently in a production environment?  Does anyone have any suggestion or can you point me to a good tech document that discusses configurations?

Thank you.

Hello All,

I have successfully implemented hyper v for my 3 customers and one of them wants to test with hyper v replica features

their concern is I have some Virtual Machines which has wwpn number and san switch is created into the same.

so just wanted to know that will those disks can be included in my hyper v replica process (Replicating a storage space) or I have to use storage replica for the same ???

What happens when a VM with 2012 Integrations Services migrates to a 2008 R2 Hyper-V server?

I've been going through our Hyper-V environment to make sure our VMs have the latest, greatest Integration Services installed. I found one 2012 running a 2012 version of Integration Services on this 2008 R2 Hyper-V server. What kind of issues can this cause? Should I uninstall the current version and 'downgrade' them to 2008 R2?

Hyper-V Replication Question

0

Hello,

I just completed watching some YouTube videos and reading some helpful websites but still had a quick question. I have a .110 network in LocationA and a .60 network in LocationB. Both locations use static IP addresses. I can ping both locations from each other. If I want to replicate a VM from the .110 network or LocationA to the .60 network which is LocationB would this be possible since both locations have different networks? If I want to replicate from the .110 network, would my .110 network settings on the VM still be configured on the VM in the .60 network? If this is the case then when I turned on the replicated VM it would not be able to join the network without modifying the NIC settings. I was hoping someone could explain this process a little better or more in-depth so I have an idea of what I'm doing.

On a different note as long as your two host servers are Server 2012 R2, can you replicate Server 2003 and Server 2008 systems or is it only for 2012 R2 VMs? Any and all information is helpful. Thank you!

asking for driver when install Hyper-V 2012 r2

Hi,

I'm trying to install the Hyper-V server by using the DVD image from MS but it keep asking for the drivers. I tried different drivers but none of them work (Win7, Win8, Win8.1). Any idea??

(I'm installing the server to a normal PC with i5 4GB) Does it has any special requirement to have it installed?? I tried the VMWare without any problem.

Thanks.
