Cannot load vdh or vhdx after server rebuild

Hello,

We had a problem with some hardware on our Server 2012 Hyper-V and the server had to be rebuilt. I restored all the vhd and vhdx files and am having a problem when I recreate one of the VM's... the error I get it "Failed to add device 'Virtual Hard Disk' if I show details it says Failed to open attachment ' The file cannot be accessed by the system. This is only happening with one particular server, all the others had no problems. The server had 3 disks attached and I get the same error no matter which one I try and attach. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Gavin

Can't remove failed virtual switch from Hyper-V's Virtual Switch Manager

Hello,

We have a virtual switch setup in the Virtual Switch Manager and the adapter has been deleted by mistake using the "Change Adapter Settings..." of the Network And Sharing Center. Now, obiviously the switch is in a failed state and we just want to remove it from the list.

The Hyper-V console and the PowerShell command ("remove-vmswitch -Name "VSITCH01" - force") both returnsthe error below when removing the switch, because obivously, it can't find the adapter. How do I force remove the switch from the list?

While the firewall is opened  , i can't expand the VHD size  , it takes long time for requesting information ,

When i set the firewall off ,  i can expand the disk so quickly

My question , what is the firewall  port to be opened  instead of disable the firewall?

Dear Friends

I have SQL database in one of a VM, It was working fine, Since yesterday it keeps on restarting itself

I had excluded this machine from the domain, as it was having the trust relationship issue, so I thought I should remove from domain and add to domain again (normal Practice).

But after that, it is restarting every 34 seconds and I am unable to do anything

CAN ANY ONE HELP - IT IS EXTREMELY URGENT

Static IP Address Issue

I am running a Windows 2008 R2 server with two NICs. I have one NIC configured with a static IP address, and the other configured with a dynamic IP address. The way my ISP is set up, static addresses and dynamic addresses are on completely different subnets.  I have a virtual adapter set up on the card with the dynamic address.  I am now trying to set up a 2012 server in a VM. I have it networking through the adapter with the dynamic address.  It works perfectly as long as it, too, has a dynamic IP address.  However, I'd like to give the VM a static IP address.  As soon as I do that, it can't talk to the gateway.  So, I have two questions:

  1. Does the VM's address have to be in the same subnet as the NIC it's going through?
  2. Is there some way I can make this work?  If so, how?

Thanks!

Brad.

Hyper-V bandwidth provisioning for each VM

Is it possible to allocate a fixed bandwidth say 500 Mbps for a given virtual machine in Hyper-V ? Is there any other setting in addition to Quality of Service that would reserve some of the bandwidth? I am having difficulty in utilizing hundred percent bandwidth for a VM.The VM does not receive more than 150 Mbps when 1 Gbps traffic is sent to it. Please suggest ways to improve the network utilization.

Hello!

Hope you can help me. I have two servers in a cluster, OS is MS Hyper-v 2012 (free edition). Few days ago both nodes started to fall down with BSOD. Memory dump analyze shows the following information:

DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION (133)
The DPC watchdog detected a prolonged run time at an IRQL of DISPATCH_LEVELor above.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000001, The system cumulatively spent an extended period of time at	DISPATCH_LEVEL or above. The offending component can usually be	identified with a stack trace.
Arg2: 0000000000001e0d, The watchdog period.
Arg3: 0000000000000000
Arg4: 0000000000000000

I'v found a hotfix KB2877237, but i cannot install it, during an installation i received a message, that update isnot applicable to my computer.

I've done as said in article (http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2877237/en-us#appliesto) - create a registry subkey, reboote server and then try to install update.

I wonder, how can i install this fix?

Thanks!

Storage Enclosure on non-Domain Joined Server

Hyper-V 2012 R2. Is it possible to use a storage enclosure on a non-domain joined server for hyper-v smb storage? We need to place some VM machines and disks on the stroage enclosure and it appears as if you can not do that unless the server is joined to the domain. Can someone confirm?

SCVMM Unable to assign the subnet because it overlaps an existing one

Hello,

We are using SCVMM to manage an Hyper-V cluster (2012 R2).

When we tried to create a new VLAN we got the following error:

Error (13638)
Unable to assign the subnet 172.22.172.128/25 because it overlaps with an existing subnet.

Recommended Action
Specify a non-overlapping subnet, and then try the operation again.

After revising the rest of subnets we haven't found any overlaps.

We have another VLAN defined with 172.22.172.0/25

I've checked with a CIDR calculator and the IP Range is not overlapped.

How can we define both VLANs with their corresponding Subnets?

Convert Server 2012R2 Gen 2 VM to Gen 1

Hi all

I have been researching to see if it's at all possible to convert a Gen2 VM in Hyper-V to a Gen1.

I recently created a 2012R2 RDS server in Hyper-V and introduced to production environment, but now I want to introduce RemoteFX which I cant do for Gen2 VM's.

I have seen forums indicating this cant be done, but what if I was to recreate a VM as Gen1 but re-use the existing VHDX file I used in the original Gen2 VM? Would this work? Why/Why not? Is there anything else I could do to convert back to Gen1?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Add Physical Disk to VM

Hyper-V 2012 R2. We have a SE3016 JBOD devices that hooked up to the physical server via SAS 6mbps HBA. On the physical server (2012 r2 core), diskpart lists the disk as offline. In hyper-v manager in the settings of the VM, i have added the hard drive via scsi:

As you can see, the physical drive shows up in the settings. However, when i go into computer management of the VM, the drive is not listed there. The lights for the drive in the JBOD device is light-up and does not show any erros. I have rebooted the server and JBOD device. Still no drive in computer management of the VM.

Am i doing this process right to get the VM to see the drive?

Hi,

I had just downloaded a version of Windows Server 2012 Hyper V  and successfully ran it in a VMWare 10, created a admin profile too. Post installation when i login to the box i just see a blue screen as a landing page with no taskbars or a MMC. I plan to set it up as a clustered node , creating another VM (starting with 2). Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have two Windows2012 server(serverA,serverB) and installed Hyper-V.

I tried Hyper-V replica replication from serverA to serverB.

One guest Windows2008R2 of serverA is replicated and still working fine.

But the other Windows2008R2 guest of serverA can not be replicated.

When I tried to replicate , I had failed to enable replication with 0x80004004 error like the below.

I tried solution 1 and 2 of the below link but same error still happen.

How could I solve it ?

Running commands on VMs remotely

$

Hi Everyone

New to all of this so please bear with me!

Starting a new project and looking to compare between the use of Hyper V and ESXi.

The project is to grab vms regardless of state, turn them on and execute scripts stored on a vm drive. The script execution has to be performed / issued by a user. C# is the main underlying code but we can potentially put in references to use powershell scripts / whatever else if we can achieve this using hyper v.

I know from doing a bit of reading on ESXi that we can do this using a number of ways - vmrun to start, stop and run commands on the actual vm itself. using other vmware libraries and APIs.

I have read that powershell commands include starting vms, taking snapshots, shutting down vms but I was wondering if we can get into the actual VM remotely / somehow in-order to, for example, run a script which is stored on that VMs C drive.

Has anyone tried this / is it do-able? -  I have had no luck finding any examples of what we need.

Kind Regards,

Ashley

Unable to see Storage FC LUN to HyperV 2012 r2 VM

Hi,

I have Windows Server 2012 r2 HyperV VM running with Integration Service version 6.3.9600.16384 where i have mapped some LUN from Storage & done Zonning on SAN Switch but still unable to see those LUN's on VM.

I am able to see Virtual FC Card WWPN on SAN Switch through which have done SAN Switch zonning.

Strange part is those LUN's are visible on Host Machine whereas Zonning done for Guest VM WWPN.

Appreciate any support to resolve this issue.

Enable RDP client on Hyper-V or 2012 Core

Hello,

Is it possible to enable RDP client (!) on Hyper-V server?

So to be clear, I want to connect FROM Hyper-V TO other machine, and NOT to enable rdp to connect the Hyper-V (that is already done and working).

I know it could sounds pointless, but in some cases I need it.

Guests stuck on reboot

$

Hello,

I'm currently running a test environment with Hyper-V Server running on a Dell PowerEdge 2950 with a few 2003 and 2003R2 guests. Whenever the guests reboot for updates (windows update set to automatically restart on a specified time), they get stuck at "Windows is shutting down..." indefinately. That is, until I connect to the host machine with Hyper-V monitor and open their console. When I do that, I see the "Windows is shutting down..." message for a split second, then the machine reboots. The last message in the eventlog of the guests is that the eventlog service has stopped, minutes after the update reboot had started, so it does not appear to be an issue with a stuck service on the guest, but rather with the Hyper-V host not processing the reboot or something until you open the guest's console.

How can I solve this?
