Hypervisor Launch Fails "Unable to Allocate Sufficient Memory"

0
0

Hi Everyone. :)

As is apparent from the title, I can't get my virtual machine to run. I found two indicative errors in Event Viewer which happen on every boot:

  • Hypervisor launch failed; The operating system boot loader was unable to allocate sufficient memory to complete the operation.
    Source: Hyper-V-Hypervisor
    Event ID: 83
  • The virtualization infrastructure driver (VID) is not running.
    Source: Hyper-V-VMMS
    Event ID: 15350

The second one, I would guess, is nothing but the consequence of the first. Unfortunately, I was unable to find anything related to the first one. Can you help me?

Additional info:

I am running Windows 10 Technical Preview on a Phenom II X4 with 4GB RAM and all of the relevant CPU technologies are reported as available.

Sleep and Hybernate are disabled.

When I try to execute net start hvboot from an elevated command prompt, it fails because, apparently, the appropriate service does not exist.

When I installed Windows 10, I did have to run startup repair, but I executed "bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype auto" and if I run "bcdedit /enum", under {current} it says "hypervisorlaunchtype Auto", which should be okay, right?

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Hyper-V.

do you know behind the scene with the measure-VM from Hyper-V host?

hi, the expert of scripting..

Do you know how "measure-VM" works?

how does it calculate to get the result of "Average RAM" or the others?

let's assume, i have 1 VM with 2GB RAM in monday, then tuesday i change the RAM to 4GB RAM, Wednesday 4GB RAM, then i run the "measure-VM -VMName VMTEST" script in wednesday, the result of AvgRAM i got is 4096MB. how could it be? (assume the VM is always ON from Monday till Wednesday)

why not like this 2GB+4GB+4GB=10GB/3= 3,3 GB ?

Thank you

Best method to add ISCSI storage to a fileserver vm guest

Hello,

I have two Dell PowerVault NX3300 servers (Server 2012 R2), and one Equallogic PS6100 SAN.  The two servers are clustered together and host Hyper-V guests.  At this point, I'm running a 2012 R2 VM guest and can successfully migrate/failover between the nodes.  This guest VM will be a file server, and it will be accessing/sharing data that is stored on the SAN.  My question is: what is the best method to get the ISCSI SAN volume connected to this VM guest?  Since the vm guest is clustered between the two nodes, I need to make sure that it can access the SAN volume in an event of a failover.

*** Note: We plan on having a total of two different file server VM guests that will each connect to the SAN.  There may be more guest VMs created in the future, but they would not be file servers.

Each server has 8 physical NICs and are configured as follows on each server:

1 x management port

3 x VM nic team

2 x SAN ISCSI connections

(That leaves 2 open ports on each server)

There is a ISCSI SAN volume attached to the hosts as the cluster's CSV.  This is only to store VM guests - not data.

After reading multiple blog posts and other sites, I've come to realize that there may be two realistic options: (1) add the ISCSI SAN volume directly to the hosts, then add the disk to the VM as a pass-through and let the cluster configure it; (2) add the ISCSI SAN volume directly to the VM guest.

Option 2 sounds simpler, but I'm also curious as to the best configuration of vNICs for the guest.

Any help with this would be great.  If I'm missing something, please let me know!

Thank you

R Project for Statistical Computing application (http://www.r-project.org/) - Performance issues on Windows VM

We have recently moved from using R Project for Statistical Computing application (http://www.r-project.org/) on physical workstations to being hosted in a VM ( ESXi cluster). The R benchmark models when run in the virtual machines are 40 - 200% slower (several minutes) than on the physical workstations or laptops. Even though the VMs have been given more and more performant resources in the virtualised environment.

As far as we can see the VMs and workstations are configured as identically as possible, from a OS and application point of view.

From the Windows and ESXi performance counters we have analysed we cannot see any obvious performance bottleneck in the virtual environment.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue when virtualising R on Windows?  If so I can provide more information on the exact troubleshooting steps we have taken so far.

Appreciate we are not running in a Hyper-V environment, but I could not find a general performance forum and wanted to see if anyone has had a similar issue.

Gareth

Losing Access to Cluster Shared Volumes: Cluster Shared Volume 'Volume1' ('CSV Disk1') has entered a paused state because of '(c0000435)'

Hi,

Just built a Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V failover cluster connected to Equallogic 4110 storage arrays with latest firmware and HIT kits.
When creating a clone or vm from a template we see that the cluster loses access to the storage csv volume that is hosted on the equallogic storage with the following errors:

Cluster Shared Volume 'Volume1' ('CSV Disk1') has entered a paused state because of '(c0000435)'. All I/O will temporarily be queued until a path to the volume is reestablished.

Can anyone shed any light onto this issue?

I have created a cirtual copy of a physical machine to conduct software upgrade testing in a SCADA system.

My copy of Windows server 2008 R2 Standard is no longer genuine.

I tried to buy a copy online, but it is no longer availiable on the website from Microsoft according to the Chat I had in the website.

How can I get this copy genuine?

Problems PXE booting Gen 2 Virtual Machines after Upgrading to Windows Server 2012 R2

My Current Setup:

I have two virtual machines set up with Hyper V on my Windows Server 2012 Server.

VM1: Configured to boot from an ISO file and runs Clonezilla server.

VM2: Configured to PXE boot using a legacy network adapter, and with a passthrough 250Gb hard disk.

These two VMs are connected to an external Virtual Switch, which allows physical machines to PXE boot to the Clonezilla server.

For the past few months I have been using this setup for two purposes:

1. To clone physical machines to the Clonezilla virtual server (as a backup).

2. To restore those image to the second VM if I find that need to get access to the files on the original image..

This has worked perfectly, except for the fact that the speed of the legacy network adapter on the second VM (which is required to PXE boot) is very slow. But I know this is because of the limitations in how the legacy adapter works...

-------------------------------------------------------------

Now my problem:

I found out that Gen 2 VMs allow you to PXE boot without having use a legacy network adapter, allowing me to image back to the VM faster. So I upgraded the Server to Server 2012 R2 . I then created the same two virtual machines on the R2 server. I can still PXE boot the Gen 1 VM to the Clonezilla Server but I cannot get the Gen 2 VMs to PXE boot properly. They get an IP address from the Clonezilla Server but then just stop with the following screen. (note: I have disabled the Secure Boot).

Are Gen 2 VMs unable to pull down images from anything other than a WDS Server?

Move a VM created in Hyper-V 2012 to a Hyper-V 2008R2 Server

Hi Guys

I'm trying to move an Exchange 2010 server I created in Hyper-V 2012 to a Hyper-V 2008R2 Server. The files are in VHD format and I re-created the VM on the 2008R2 server and did not do an Export-Import.

Initially the Server would start up fine but I could not get the network card to work at all and the Disk Manager on the server would not display the drives.

I then re-inserted the Integration Services disc and it re-applied all the drivers. Now after restarting the server Windows just gets stuck on Preparing to configure windows and doesn't go any further.

Any ideas?

Hyper V 2012 R2 Replication - Unplanned Failover

0
0

We have set up two Hyper V 2012 R2 servers, and have a number of test machines replicated from host1 to host2, the bit we are struggling with is the unplanned failover, so we have lost power to host1 and on host2 we bring the replica VM’s up, so now host2 is servicing the VM.

The question is how can we failback to the original host, host1, seems that reverse replication only works for planned failovers?

Or is there no concept of a fail back for unplanned failovers?

Time diffrence in Linux VM and host

Hyper-V host is having correct time, also windows guests having correct time. but Linux hosts after running for some days it changes it time. we find some work around and to add clocksource_failover=acpi_pm to the boot parameter in grub.conf. Most of the linux VM worked with this but still few are having different time.

Thanks in advance

Hyper V guest slow disk access

0
0

I have a Hyper V cluster(2012) with a 2012 guest running 2012 acting as my file server.

My 2 hosts are connected to a gig switch stack which in turn is connected to my Dell MD3200i.

My file server has a "data" disk that is a VHD(fixed) on the iSCSI storage. As is it OS(dynamic)

I'm coping 200GB right now and only seeing data thoughtput of 8MB/sec.

When I check perfrmance on the file server the disk queue is huge. But when I check the queue for C: on the host, which is where the cluster storage appears to sit, its got a low if not no queue.

Also did a copy using the host and saw 58MB/sec so I'm happy the network should be able to pass the data.

Switch CPU is at 5%

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Terrible Flickering/Delay While Playing Video in Hyper-V

Hello Community,

I have a Hyper-V server running on Windows 8.1. I have had it for a couple years now. There's been this problem that has been bugging me (I can't believe I waited this long to say anything!) and I wanted to see if someone can help me out with it.

Essentially, when I play video in a webpage in my Hyper-V instance (also Windows 8.1, this one has Update), I experience tremendous lag and flickering when I scroll the page or Alt-Tab away from it. It's pretty terrible. Not just that, but the sound gets out of sync with the video and it just is not very pleasant. In fact, I feel the browser/instance is going to crash at any moment, heh. When I alt-tab, it will take up to 10 seconds at times before the video rendering window will refresh/clear.

Anyways, I wanted to get this out there to so see if anyone can assist. I am running GTX660, driver version 344.48.

Thank you,
Michael

Hyper-V Lab - SAS Storage

0

I have 2 small, standalone Hyper-V labs (two locations) starved for storage, that I'd like to expand.

I have twelve 1-TB SAS drives that were used for a temporary project, which are now at my disposal.

I'd like to re-use these with my Hyper-V farms.  I was looking at SAS JBOD enclosures, but I want to make sure I understand the requirements for what I want to achieve.

I want this storage compatible with current GEN Hyper-V, and want my VHDs reasonably fast and safe (from drive failures).

Do I need 2 JBOD enclosures for each location, or just one?

Assuming I'm looking at "Provide your Own Drive" solutions, what specifications or features do I need to make sure I'm buying?

Thanks!

Live Migration issue after 1 migration

Hello,

I have a brand new 2 node Hyper-V cluster built. Storage is presented via SAN. Live-Migration network, Public Network, Private Network and 2 VM-MGMT virtual switches. These boxes are identical hardware; HP DL580 G7's with plenty of horsepower. I am running Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Core on each node. My problem is, I validate cluster, and I receive no errors at all. This is a brand new clean install, but for some reason I can only migrate from one node to the other and not back without rebooting a node after the live migration. I have no idea what i going on? Has anyone ever experienced this? A peer of mine installed the same scenario in another Datacenter and it is doing the exact same thing too. Which leaves me to believe it is either OS or Hardware related?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Identifying the VM host for all Virtual Machines

0
0

We are preparing a licensing report for a budget planning meeting and I have been asked by management to create a report which:

1. Identifies all the Hyper-V host in my domain.

2. Identifies the guest VMs on each Hyper-V host

3. Identifies the type of server OS running (either Enterprise or Data Center).

Has anyone create a similar Powershell script for this information? or what would you advise?

Thanks

Adding Additional Host To The Hyper-V Cluster

0

Good morning,

I have an R720 Dell server which is running Windows Server 2012 Datacenter (64-bit) and I want to add it to an existing Hyper-V cluster which is currently composed of 4 hosts. The cluster is using fiber channel directly with the Dell Compellent.

I would like to know if there is anything that I would need to do on the server which I want to add to the cluster? Do I need to add any Hyper-V roles to it or configure the network card? Or will I just use the VMM to configure it with the cluster?

Thanks in advance,

initial replication fails repeatedly

2102R2 hosts. Start initial replication for VM and after a period of time it fails, I resume replication and it goes on for a while longer and fails again. The event log shows Event ID 33680, followed immediately by 32086, followed immediately 32022. I cannot figure out what is causing the failure and the event id's provide no information. I am not sure how to start troubleshooting this one.

thanks

Install and configure Hyper V for VDI

0

Hi Everyone

I am trying to setup a POC lab using Hyper-V to demonstrate use case for VDI

I do understand you need to have 2012R2 connection brokers and RDSH servers as part of the VDI deployment.

Coming from a vmware background I have much to learn in this area. I have 4 HS22 blades installed with 2012R2 Datacentre and configured teaming for the management Network. All 4 2012R2 host presented with shared storage from our SAN. On each host there are 6 NIC . 2 is for management / migration ?? and the rest of the 4 Nic is for the VM data network

On the management Teaming Nic, I have setup 2 NIC in independent mode with load balancing Dynamic. The second nic is set as Standby Adapter.

Before I enable the Hyper V role , I would like to find out the best practice for setting up 2012R2 HyperV for VDI ? Do I need a seprate migration network or use the same management teaming Nic ? And Where do use specify in hyper to use this network for vm migration between host.

In Vsphere we use port group to assign different Vlan for each VMs. You can have multiple Port groups (with vlan id)  belongs to a vsphere distributed V switch. Host can be part of the distribute vswitch.

My understanding you have to manually enter the vlan id on each separate vm, there is no drop box to choose the vlan

is there any way we can achieve the similar result in Hyper V.

we do have license to use VMM

Many thanks
