chkdsk error on Hyper V Cluster
tomcat-webapp not accessible via port after windows-update
we are running 4 Virtual Machines on a MS HyperV Host.
On one of the VMs (192.168.50.15) we have multiple Tomcat-Webapps on separate ports - 9010: Jenkins - 9020: Atlassian Jira - 9030: Wiki ..
These Apps are all accessible locally from the VM directly in browser (localhost:9010/....)
We did our monthly Windows Update yesterday... and since then, those Webapps are not accessible anymore from other workstations, which are in the same network
side notes:
we are running a mssql server on the same machine on the default port, which can be accessed without any problems.
when having WireShark running/listening to the VirtualMachine's IP/Port on the physical Host, we can access the WebApp from the PhysicalHost. As soon as we stop listening, access is not possible anymore.
Does anyone have a clue where to search for the cause?
Don't hesitate to ask for further details and background information. I will provide them...

w32tm problem with server 2012 r2 PDC hyper-v guest w32tm service
Hello all,
I’m running Microsoft Hyper-V 2012 hosting a Microsoft Server 2012 R2 VM (and several other client VMs). The configuration of the domain time server does not seem quite right:
Domain Clients
I’ve setup domain clients using GPO to set the time server as follows using a WMI filter to select non-PDC roles:
I can see this is getting applied correctly to client’s registry settings (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\W32time), but occasionally client computers display ‘Local CMOS clock’ as there time source when executing w32tm /query /source.
PDC:
In Hyper-V I have disabled the ‘time synchronisation’ integration service (this seems to be the most recent recommendation from MS, please correct me if this is wrong). I’ve also set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\w32time\TimeProviders\VMICTimeProvider\Enabled = 0.
I’ve used the follow set of commands to setup the time client for an external time source: (I tried to use GPO, but although the settings appeared in the policy part of the registry config for w32tm they didn’t seem to work)
net Stop w32Time w32tm /config /syncfromflags:manual /manualpeerlist:"0.uk.pool.ntp.org,0x1 1.uk.pool.ntp.org,0x1 2.uk.pool.ntp.org,0x1 3.uk.pool.ntp.org,0x1" w32tm /config /reliable:yes net Start W32Time w32tm /config /update w32tm /resync
This seems to work … mostly. Sometime w32tm /resync report something about data not available, but it seems to update the clock anyway, then a second call to w32tm /resync report the command was completed successfully.
Problems and questions:
To minimise the shutdown time of the host server the PDC (and other guest VMs) are set to Save state rather than shutdown when the host server is shutdown. So when the host is shut down and rebooted, or when just rebooting the PDC VM, it loses some time (OK, that’s expected).
I would have expected there to be a mechanism for correcting this, but I seem to have to manually type w32tm /resync on the PDC after a resume.
Q1a.) Should the ‘Time Synchronization’ integration service really be disabled on the Hyper-V VM configuration?
Q1b.) Should this key modification be necessary (I’m guessing it’s redundant and only has an effect with ‘Time Synchronization’ enabled, which is what you might want on other non-PDC VMs): HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\w32time\TimeProviders\VMICTimeProvider\Enabled = 0.
Q1c.) Is there a way to trigger a /resync on machine resume.
Q2.) Can a PDC running in a VM cope with Saving and Resuming state in a VM or does it need to be shut down, and booted when the host needs to shut down and boot?
Q3.) Are they any problems with the domain client, and PDC time configurations for w32tm I have shown above.
Q4.) Sometimes clients report CMOS local clock instead of the PDC time server when running w32tm /query /source, is there a case where clients fall back to their local clock for some reason?
All comments and suggestions welcome,
David
Guest Cluster Using a Shared Virtual Hard Disk and Replica
Hi all,
I've read that is suppoted to deploy a Guest Cluster Using a Shared Virtual Hard Disk:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn265980.aspx
but I've not understood some things:
1) is live migration supported for VM forming the cluster?
2) is storage live migration supported?
3) may the VM run on the same host or in different host?
4) Can I use Replica feature to replica the VM forming a cluster in a DR site?
Low network speed between 2008R2 Hyper-Vs on 2012R2 Host
We have a HP Proliant Server with the lastest servicepacks and network driver, Windows Server 2012R2 and hyper-v role.
We run 3 virtual machines in hyper-v, two 2008R2 and one 2012R2.
We have great speed UP and DOWN on the Host HP Server but our issue is the speed between the virtual machines internally.
From a 2008R2 to 2008R2 we only see 10 MB/sec up and down, but speed is much better from the virtual 2012R2 to 2008R2.
We have disabled all kind of ipsec task offloading and disabled VMQ on the main network card and in hyper-v settings, still the same result.
If we change to a legacy adapter we get 100MB/sec speed between 2008R2 and 2008R2 which is great and the maximum speed the legacy adapter can handle.
I did a test and started these virtual 2008R2 machines on a HP with server 2012 instead of above R2 and there we got a much better speed. (Which leads me to a issue with the hyper-v adapter windows driver on a R2 is different from non-R2, but cant find any signed driver on the net to test with).
I hope i can get some help or ideas, i contacted HP and they also claimed it to be a windows issue.
Problem installing integrated services on a converted Windows Server 2008 32-bit virtual machine.
An error has occurred: Internal error.
It's pretty vague so I did some research and tried to find any error logs it looks like a HAL issue but I'm not sure. I tried running msconfig and checking off"Detect HAL" but that didn't work either. Does anyone have any success with this. Ideally I would simply build a new 64-bit vm and migrate services over but this particular application is problematic and we don't have support on it.
Hyper-V NIC Setup
Hello there, I am planning to implement 2xWindows Server 2012R2 Hyper-V for a small company. These two servers have 2x1Gbps NIC cards and please help me out what to do with these NICs?
Shall I team 2 NICs of a server and make them one or shall I assign 1 NIC for Hyper-V VMs and other for Windows Server 2012R2 itself. My concern is to focus for reliable connectivity among the Virtual Machines?
Please help me to decide?
Thank You

How to configure Virtual Switch
Thank you for attention!
Now on my PC two network adapters - LAN and Wi-Fi. Time to time one (LAN or Wi-Fi) is connected to network, or both of them? or no one connected (because it's - notebook).
In "Virtual Switch Manager" were created "switches":
1) ExtVSwitch_LAN - External, connected to LAN Intel Gigabit network connection
2) ExtVSwitch_WiFi - External, connected to Wi-Fi network adapter
3) InternalVirtualSwitch - internal network switch to VM-interconnection
So that in guest OS I have at less pair network adapter to have access to Internet independently I connect my PC to network through LAN or Wi-Fi interface.
I'd like to configure VirtualSwitch to see only one universal adapter in guest OS-es and it provides my VM's to connect to the Internet, local (for example,- corporative or home) network and interconnect to each other (or, at less, to the host OS).
Please, explain, HOW I CAN DO THAT?
Thanks in advance!
Host OS: Win 10 TP x64 with Hyper-V; one LAN Gigabit network card and one Wi-Fi network adapter - getting IP from router DHCP service.
Guest OS: Win 8.1, Win XP; in nearest future - Win 7

Hyper-v Server
Hi everybody

Failed to register service principal name for Hyper-V Event 14050
we have a domain with several Hyper-V hosts, clustered & standalone. All works fine. Now i have installed additonal Hyper-V host, which generates every 2 min. the event 14050:
Failed to register the service principal name 'Hyper-V Replica Service'.
Failed to register the service principal name 'Microsoft Virtual System Migration Service'.
Failed to register the service principal name 'Microsoft Virtual Console Service'.
No problem, take google and fix the problem.. no way..
The beavior is very strange, the errors also come up if the SPN's where manually added to the computer account.
Only one google hit after hours of searching says one guy has disabled the firewall and it works.
Now this is what i have done.. no change.. events coming up. So i stop the firewall service and it works!! The SPN's are successfuly registered! After the service is restarted, no more event 14050 coming up. After reboot same shit, events coming up again until the firewall servive is fully stopped and after successfully registering restarted.
But why?? Firewall rules are correctly implemented.
In summary:
Standart; does not register SPN
Firewall disabled; does not register SPN
Firewall service stopped; does register SPN successfuly
Anyone got a hint? Any help will be appreciate!!

SSD Raid 0 or No Raid for Home Lab
Putting together a home lab which hope to run 15 or so virtual machines from.
Specs: 5820k 6 core processor
64gb ddr4
4 x 500gb SSD
I wouldn't use raid 0 in production but as its a home lab for testing, resiliency isn't important as worst case I can just create it again. I would rather get max performance with minimal cost.
Would I be better having no raid - 1 ssd for OS, and then 4 - 5 virtual machines on each SSD? or would I be better creating a raid 0 with the 4 500GB and using for host and VMs?
It appears trim is supported in raid 0 with the x99 motherboards and suppose always have the option of limiting storage iops for a particular VM is consuming too much?
WSUS causes Hyper-V Server to reboot
I have 2 Hyper-V server in my cluster with a WSUS server in the domain. Recently I have setup Cluster-Aware Updating as well and it is configured to run every 3rd Tuesday of the month.
Also, I setup a GPO for the Hyper-V servers that I thought would prevent Windows Update from installing and rebooting the server. However, this morning both Hyper-V server rebooted at about the same time.
I'm not sure what I'm missing in the GPO that is allowing the updates to install and reboot the servers before CAU gets to it
Here is my GPO setting for the Hyper-V servers.
Event id 14050 for Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-VMMS-Admin whenever rebooting the server-Failed to register service principal name. checked SPN and it appears to all be listed.
I am not sure how to get rid the of the SPN error in hyper-v events. It appears whenever I reboot this server -windows 2008 R2 enterprise. I have tried restarting VMMS service as well as confirming that permission of "self" user has write permissions for SPN for this server object in AD. Please suggest a solution because currently I just build two new VM on this box and would not like to remove this server from the domain and readd it.

Hyper-V 2012 Replica on a large cluster - many VMs to a single target CSV
Hi all,
We have a Hyper-V 2012 cluster with 5 hosts and ~200 VMs (a few of them actually).
We have tried to start using Hyper-V Replica (HVR) a couple of times now, but every time at some point we encounter issues on the destination HVR Broker storage side. Probably too much bandwidth is required from the storage and we start having issues with merging snapshots in time. Size is also a limiting factor with ~16TB size CSV to contain all the VMs; the CSV is a NetApp LUN and we cannot scale the LUN larger than 16TB.
While potentially this could be addressed by using a faster storage, I am more worried about the side effects of starting and using 200 VMs from a single CSV and LUN. I know that currently there is no official way to split the replica VMs to different CSVs - except for a workaround mentioned here. But this workabound is not suitable for large clusters as it is not managable on this scale.
Any thoughts, comments or suggestions are welcome.
Regards, Leonid
