Hyper-V Replica Application-Consistent

0
0

Hi,

my Scenario:

Primary site - Hyper-V Cluster Windows Server 2012 R2

Replica site - Hyper-V Host Windows Server 2012 R2, same IP subnet

several VMs with SQL 2012 SP1 and SQL 2005/2008, SQL on same VHDs and on different VHDs (Set-VMReplication -VMName <vm-name> -EnableWriteOrderPreservationAcrossDisks 1)

VM Integration Services: 6.3.9600.16384

doing Application Consistent Recovery Points on the SQL-VMs which seems to running well...BUT if you look at the Application-Log inside the SQL-VMs I get following errror every time a Application Consistent Recovery Point is running:

SQLVDI: Loc=SignalAbort. Desc=Client initiates abort. ErrorCode=(0). Process=2644. Thread=7212. Client. Instance=. VD=Global\{3346955E-6377-4992-BA65-5DB64EFA8399}1_SQLVDIMemoryName_0

BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP DATABASE model. Check the backup application log for detailed messages.

BackupVirtualDeviceFile::SendFileInfoBegin:  failure on backup device '{3346955E-6377-4992-BA65-5DB64EFA8399}1'. Operating system error 995(error not found).

Same error on all my SQL-VMs.

VSS Backup (within the host) of my SQL-VMs with Windows Server Backup works as expected without any Errors.

So I believe this is an Hyper-V Replica issue not an SQL issue!

I did the same tests on a completely different Hyper-V Replica Environment without Hyper-V Cluster --> same errors

any ideas....

Thanks for any replies...christian

Powershell 4.0 Add-ClusterVirtualMachineRole -VMName TestVM8 invalid

I am on one of the hosts in the cluster. While trying to add a VM to a 2012 R2 cluster I receive the following error:

Add-ClusterVirtualMachineRole : The Virtual Machine 'TestVM8' is not valid.
At line:1 char:1
+ Add-ClusterVirtualMachineRole -VMName TestVM8

I am using CredSSP.

From a remote station I receive this error:

Add-ClusterVirtualMachineRole : Invalid class
At line:1 char:1
+ Add-ClusterVirtualMachineRole -VirtualMachine TestVM8 -Cluster testcluster1

Remoting is enabled (Enable-PSRemoting -force) on the hosts in the cluster. Does anyone have any ideas on why this would not work? Thanks in advance.

Requirements for backup Hyper-V 2012 VMS

Hello Everyone,

I have implemented Symantec Netbackup 7.6.0.1 to backup Hyper-V 2012 VMS. We have Hyper-V 2012 (RTM) 3.0 .

In some cases the virtual machines enter in saved state. Following Netbackup documentation for Hyper-V and after do some research, consolidate all information in a spreadsheet, see below...

Guest OS compatibility;
Integration Service is installed and updated;
Guest OS updated;
VM has only basic disk;
Shadow copy must be available to Hyper-V VSS and be located at the same volume;
VMs have at least 20% of free space on each disk;
VSS infrastructure is health and dos not present any issue;
WMI is OK;
At time of analysis, any peak of processing was presented;

I have worked with Netbackup, Backup Exec and Simpana and in all documentations, the type of backup (ONLINE vs OFFLINE) is a Microsoft designation and the backup application  can't decide about how to backup a virtual machine.

After check all pre-requirements present above 99% of issues related with vms enter in saved state when backup happens was solved.

But we still have some machines (4) enter in saved state, VMS is 2008 R2 with SP1 all VMS are in compliance with pre requirements table, BUT all VMS isn't compliance with item number 9. For testing this VMS I do a clone, because they are not in production the resources is dropping and the clones no more enter in saved state, so I use some .vbs scripts for stressing the VMS, and after stress, the VM enter in saved state.

Have Microsoft some best practices for applying in Virtual Machine, like "20% of free resources when backup operation is run"...

Thank You!

2WAN in one HyperV?

Hi @all,

OS W8.1 with HyperV Feature installed.

I have created 3 virtual Network Cards

n1.) external _ Name: vWAN_WLAN _ Intel WLAN

n2.) external _ Name: vWAN_LAN _ Intel LAN

n3.) internal _ Name: vLAN _ VLAN2

I have 2 virtual Maschines:

v1.) DC_DHCP_WSUS

i used n1, n2 and n3

My Idea is, when ... is connected Server should have Internet

... LAN ... vWLAN_LAN got IP-Adress

... WLAN ... vWLAN_WLAN got IP-Adress

Actually i have the Problem, that f.e. by vWAN_WLAN i got the same ip like the Intel WLAN Adapter and so Internet doesnt workks. When i gave the Adapter a static ip adress i have Internet.

Where is my failure?

Hyper-V VM Restore Guest to different proc

Hi

I have a server 2012 host running an Opteron processor, it's hosting about 4 guests at the min, 3 Server 2012 and a Linux.  All fine, I'm using Windows backup to backup the guest VMs.

Today I restored one of the guest VMs to a small HP ML server 2012 with an Intel i3 proc I have.  The process was

- Restore a copy of the VM to a file location.
- Copy the restored VM files to the HP server
- Import the VM as a copy of a VM

The VM copied over and started up fine.  No errors on boot up and logged in without any hassle.  My understanding was you couldn't run an Intel based VM on an AMD host or vice versa?  Can anyone shed any light on whether this is correct or is the process I went through somehow removing this restriction e.g. the restoring as a copy is resetting the base hardware to that of the new host?

Thanks for any info

Say your hyper-V host doesn't have a 3D capable graphics card, is there a work around?

Can using VDI get around this?

Multiple virtual webservers with same files

Hello friends... I need some help to design my enviroment.

I have here, 12 webservers which have independent files. My intent is use the same files for all of them and use shared configuration from iis.

They are all virtual servers runing on hyper-v 2008 r2. How can i use the same files for those servers? I was thinking on network share but I dont know if its the best way to do this.

tried to use a passthrough disk on them but didnt work as i spected... theres any way to one server have write permission and the others just read and when other need to write something, the permission change from one to another?

Im kinda lost here...

unable to connect copied vhd files to VM Hyper-v high availability cluster.

Hi

I have my VMs VHD files stored on my SAN  and I have a copied one of the LUNs containing a vhd file which I have then exported to the shared storage of the hyper-V cluster which is just like and other VHD. The problem comes when trying to connect this copied vhd to the VM which still uses the original VHD . The system refuses reporting that it cannot add the same disk twice..

These are two different VHD files

I have: renamed the new file, changed the disk ID, changed the volume id and using vbox (because it was the only way I could find do it ) changed the uuid of the vhd file.  But still no joy.

I can connect the volume to any other VM without any issues, but I need to be able to connect it to the same VM..

I'm not sure how  Hyper-v is comparing the two VHD files but I need to know so I can I can connect the copy VHD without having to copy all its contents to a new VHD which is impractical..

Anyone got any ideas or a procedure??

Hello:

I am trying to install integration services on a server I just P2Ved running 2008 R2 x64, to a 2012 R2 hyper-v cluster but am receiving an error message during install. It detects a previous version and asks to update.

The installation gets to "Installing Guest Components..." then fails with the following error message:

Error

An error has occurred: One of the update processes returned error code 6801.

Best way to migrate existing XP SP3 partition to a virtual machine to run via Windows 8.1 as physical partition and not a vhd?

0

Hi I have a current XP SP3 setup have been using in a dual boot with Windows 8.1(on separate partitions on different hard drives - I think these are SATA drives)  but now am thinking of migrating my XP partition preferably as a live virtual machine to be run as a guest via Windows 8.1 as host so I don't have to do the rebooting.  Also prefer this to making a VHD of my XP so can use the existing partition allocated for it rather than taking up extra space as VHD on my windows 8 (and don't want yet to replace my xp dual boot in case it does not work so well as vhd, as I have a lot of old educational programs my kids still use on it that I don't really want to put onto my W8.1).  Will also save time if I don't have to convert it to VHD first.  I also do not want to reinstall a new XP Sp3 virtual machine from scratch for same reason - will take too long to resetup -just use existing as is.

I have used VMWare player and Virtual Box in past with an old 98SE system as a virtual VHD/VPC file but VMWare workstation is paid which may be the one I need to use a physical partition but I prefer to try freeware options first.

Will Hyper-V in Windows 8.1 (I have retail PRO version of both my XP and Windows 8.1) be able to do the same as VMWare workstation?  OR is there another option to run the physical XP?

The other thing with my XP setup is that the user profiles that people login with are located on a different partition E (80GB) to my XP which is on J (100GB) and most of the programs for it run from partition D (over 120GB) and the XP boot loader resides on a partition C (2GB) (which is not the Windows8.1 partition which becomes C only when it boots, but this C drive for XP may also be having the Windows 8 boot loader and files for that -using EasyBCD to handle boot menu of W7 type boot loader).

So I need a system that can mount these other physical partitions also alongside with my XP partition when it boots up.

So what are my options for running this XP SP3 setup via Windows 8 as a guest operating system?

Also will doing this be likely to require reactivation of my existing windows XP (retail) which means I cannot then use it again if I go back to the XP dual boot at times or in case the VM setup does not work?

Also do I need to change my XP first so that it boots off its own drive rather than the C partition - and how do I set this up then using EasyBCD or windows boot repair?

Setting up a multi-node Hyper-V 2012 R2

5 Hyper-V servers - 2012 R2
SaS Storage , CSV volumes for shared storage leveraging windows 2012 storage pools .

First thing ; is there a guide for Multi-Node setup ? how hearth beating works ? do we need to setup SCVMM first to form the cluster ?

Guest cluster on Hyper-V failover cluster

I want to implement Hyper-V failover cluster on Windows Server 2012 R2. Then Install Windows 2003 R2 as Hyper-V guest OS.

Do you know whether Windows 2003 R2 guest cluster support on Hyper-V on Windows Server 2012 R2?

Time was not correct on dc which is hyper-v virtual machine

0

My enviroment:

1 physical server dell R720

Role: Hyper-V host

OS: Windows 2008 R2 SP1

Domain: join to domain xx.com

1 virtual machine

Role: DC+DNS+DHCP

OS: Windows 2008 R2 SP1

Domain: xx.com (olny one dc)

Located on: this hyper-v host

Issue:

I found time of virtual machine (this only one dc) was slower than current time. At that moment, time on host machine also slower, and same as dc. When I manual adjust this time to correct. It would go wrong again.

Considering time sync rule of domain and hyper-v, I just unchecked 'Time Synchoniation' on hyper-v intergrate services. Howerver time was slower again after few days.

Could it be possible wrong on hyper-v host which join to domain??

So could you give me some suggestion for this? Thanks in advance.

No internet access on virtual servers

Server 2012 R2 Virtual server.

HP DL360p Gen 8 Server

Fully updated driver for hardware.

I have created a Virtual switch in Hyper-v and then attached it to the virtual machine network adapter. I have full network access to all resources on the LAN. I However can not get out the gateway to the internet for anything. I have gone through my firewall and on the firewall on the host and client machines. Nothing. I have setup and remove every type of Virtual Switch there to see if something would click. Set both static and dynamic ip's on all of the network adapters and virtual adapters. Still no internet access.

If anybody has any ideas I would greatly appreciate them.

No Network connectivity from Host to Guest and vice versa

0

I hope someone here can point me at the right direction. It is somewhat critical as the machine that failed is our second DC. I have a Hyper-V host with two guests running on it. No changes have been made to the host or the failing guest machine. The host can talk to the other VM and vice versa. The host has an external network configured and has a checkbox for sharing the network adapter checked. The VM that is failing is using that particular network. Failing VM has a static IP configured within the same subnet as the host. I cannot ping the VM from the host and VM cannot ping the host. File and printer sharing is enabled on the guest. Let me know what kind of additional info I can provide but I'll start with the above.

2012R2 Checkpoint Backups Fail - "The disk signature of disk1 is equal to the disk signature of disk0"

0

Before reading any further please note there are no actual disk signature problems per other threads on technet. I mounted all VHD's on the host and none reported offline. I manually checked all VHD disk signatures to the host and all were unique. I loaded a brand new fresh 2012R2 VM/VHD and at first fine, but after installing updates the problem occurs.

I believe a Windows Update is causing this error but do not know which one. I had a 2012 (non r2) VM that backed up fine, however after upgrading it to 2012R2 integration services and updates, this VM also has the below listed errors. Whether or not there is only one disk in the VM or multiple the following error is occurring. If I save all the VM's first I get a good and successful backup and checkpoint/snapshot transfers to backup location correctly. It is only when the VM's are running and checkpoint the process fails.

When a backup is initiated on the 2012R2 host the VM's enter into the backing up state and are still live (not saved).

The following sequence of events occur in the VMs:

Event ID: 58
Source: partmgr
"The disk signature of disk 1 is equal to the disk signature of disk 0"

Event ID: 7036
Source: Service Control Manager
"The portable device enumerator service service entered the running state"

Event ID: 58
Source: partmgr
"The disk signature of disk 1 is equal to the disk signature of disk 0"

Event ID: 98
Source: Ntfs
"Volume E: (\Device\HarddiskVOlume3) is healthy. No action is needed"

Event ID: 98
Source: Ntfs
"Volume F: (\Device\HarddiskVolume4) is healthy. No action is needed"

Event 157
Source: Disk
"Disk 1 has been surprise removed"

I can see in device manager that a Microsoft Virtual Disk is created and then disappears (greys out if viewing hidden devices)

Once Event 157 occurs, the VM's are merged back successfully and the following error occurs on the host.

DSRM black screen issue with 2012R2 DC running on 2012R2 Hyper-V

Hi!

I have been testing AD disaster recovery with few domain controllers (Server 2012R2), running on Server 2012R2 and Hyper-V. Everything OK unless I try to log in to Domain Services Recovery Mode.
After username&passwd screen goes all black and nothing happens. Every time, every server (tested this with 3 different HP workstations, one HP ML350G6 server and one laptop). Hyper-V virtual machines tested both gen1 and gen2.
With 2008R2 Hyper-V and same domain controller on it everything works fine. This makes systemstate restore bit more difficult.

Am I missing something or is it just a bug? Googling didn't help this time.

Copying files very slow between VM Server 2012 and 2008

Hello to all,
I have a very strange problem, the scenario is this:
1. Server 2012 Hyper-V
2. No. 14 V.M. Windows Server 2008 R2

All MV accessing the hard disk of the server 2012 via an internal network card with no bandwidth limit.
Only 2 MV have a very slow file transfer.
If I try the reverse, copy files from 2012 to 2008, the operation is fast
MV on all firewalls are disabled and there is no antivirus installed.

Obviously the server is in production and not a lot of possibility to maneuver.
Thanks in advance
