Improper Install of Hyper-V 2012 R2 Integration Services on 2008 R2 VMs

I have two VMs that have one or more missing/broken services after upgrading to Integration Services 6.3.9600.16384.  On one VM the Hyper-V Remote Desktop Virtualization Service is missing and the Hyper-V Data Exchange Service won't start.  The other VM was missing the Hyper-V Remote Desktop Virtualization Service.  I was able to create that service by restoring registry entries from another VM with working integration services and re-registering the DLLs from the driver, but the service won't start.  Both services that won't start return the error "1083: The executable program that this service is configured to run in does not implement the service".   I also tried an Offline Install of Integration Services, but that didn't fix anything.  Since I am running 2008 R2, there is no uninstall available (I did modify the powershell script from the abve link to uninstall, but it didn't work).  I have been un-successful in finding a way to trick/force the installer to install again over top of itself.

Hyper-v Failover Cluster management via powershell

Hi

We are looking at having a management server act as proxy for managing couple of hyper-v clusters using CSV. We plan to do management using powershell commands.

We create a session one of the host in the cluster  and execute commands using invoke-command. The cluster verbs seems to fail with the following warning.

WARNING: If you are running Windows PowerShell remotely, note that some failover clustering cmdlets do not
work remotely. When possible, run the cmdlet locally and specify a remote computer as the target. To run the
cmdlet remotely, try using the Credential Security Service Provider (CredSSP). All additional errors or
warnings from this cmdlet might be caused by running it remotely.

What is the recommended way to do setup for using FailoverCluster ? We want to have a single management server that act proxy for all servers clustered or not.

Also, is there a document that describe various operations done via Failover Cluster Manager and corresponding powershell commands (or set of commands).

Thanks

Hi!

I have DPM 2012 sp1 installed and trying to backup my Windows Server 2008R2 Hyper-V Cluster.

Only one of my VM´s lists as "Backup Using Child Partition Snapshot"
All other VM´s  lists as "Backup Using Saved State". Why is that?

They are 2008 and 2008R2 guests. They all have tha backup option enabled in Hyper-V and Cluster manager.

Please help. I need to have Online Backups...

Hyper-V 3.0 VM stuck in "Stopping" state

We are running Hyper-V on a 2012 server and for the 20nd time in as many months I've logged into a VM and restarted or migrated to another host it but it's stuck in the "stopping" state in Hyper-V 3.0 and doesn't give me any Turn Off, Shutdown, Save, Pause or Reset options.  The only thing I've been able to do is to schedule a time to reboot the Hyper-V server.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Is there any command I can run get the VM  top turn off  w/o having to reboot or restart the Hyper-V service?

Our host environment as below:

HP C7000 Blade Chasis

16x ProLiant BL460c Gen8 Server (Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2650 0 @ 2.00GHz (8 Cores) - 256GB Ram)

Blades server have Hp FlexFabric 10Gb 2-port

2x HP VC Flex-10 Enet Module on Chassie

HP VC 8Gb 20-Port FC Module on Chassie

Also We turned off tcp checksum offloading but it didn't work.

We've opened case to HP support but they analyzing our system and didn't find any problem to themself.

Does anybody have any fixes for these problems?

2WAN in one HyperV?

Hi @all,

OS W8.1 with HyperV Feature installed.

I have created 3 virtual Network Cards

n1.) external _ Name: vWAN_WLAN _ Intel WLAN

n2.) external _ Name: vWAN_LAN _ Intel LAN

n3.) internal _ Name: vLAN _ VLAN2

I have 2 virtual Maschines:

v1.) DC_DHCP_WSUS

i used n1, n2 and n3

My Idea is, when ... is connected Server should have Internet

... LAN ... vWLAN_LAN got IP-Adress

... WLAN ... vWLAN_WLAN got IP-Adress

Actually i have the Problem, that f.e. by vWAN_WLAN i got the same ip like the Intel WLAN Adapter and so Internet doesnt workks. When i gave the Adapter a static ip adress i have Internet.

Where is my failure?

Powershell 4.0 Add-ClusterVirtualMachineRole -VMName TestVM8 invalid

I am on one of the hosts in the cluster. While trying to add a VM to a 2012 R2 cluster I receive the following error:

Add-ClusterVirtualMachineRole : The Virtual Machine 'TestVM8' is not valid.
At line:1 char:1
+ Add-ClusterVirtualMachineRole -VMName TestVM8

I am using CredSSP.

From a remote station I receive this error:

Add-ClusterVirtualMachineRole : Invalid class
At line:1 char:1
+ Add-ClusterVirtualMachineRole -VirtualMachine TestVM8 -Cluster testcluster1

Remoting is enabled (Enable-PSRemoting -force) on the hosts in the cluster. Does anyone have any ideas on why this would not work? Thanks in advance.

Guest cluster on Hyper-V failover cluster

I want to implement Hyper-V failover cluster on Windows Server 2012 R2. Then Install Windows 2003 R2 as Hyper-V guest OS.

Do you know whether Windows 2003 R2 guest cluster support on Hyper-V on Windows Server 2012 R2?

Hyper-V Replica misses replication cycles, initiates resync and stops completely

$

I am having a problem with replication with one vm that is our Exchange 2010 server. I have periodically had others fails, but this one has become chronic. I have tried changing hosts, moving the replica role and rebuilding the replication from scratch. Yet several times a week it either misses large numbers of cycles, forces a resync or worst of all, stops replicating completely. Usually when that happens I have to delete the replica and start from scratch.

The replication is between two Hyper-V 2012 clusters located in different sites. We have a 1GB fiber ring between the two sites so bandwidth does not appear to be the problem. The Exchange server is backed up at the guest level using DPM 2012.

I have seen references to backups and replica problems at the host level but nothing at the guest level. I could see where when the full backup is performed on Exchange and the logs are cleared that a large amount of data would be changed in a short period of time, possibly causing a problem with keeping up. However this server used to go for weeks without an issue. Now it is every couple of days.

Some of the errors I have seen:

32326 - Virtual machine requires resynchronization to get back into an operational state.
32086 - Hyper-V suspended replication for virtual machine due to a non-recoverable failure. Resume replication after correcting the failure.
32022 - Hyper-V could not replicate changes for virtual machine: The device does not recognize the command. (0x80070016).

Windows Server 2012 R2 and Hyper-V 2012 R2 cluster

Hi

We have two HP BL 460 gen8 servers that has Windows 2012 R2 Datacenter license and are set up in a two-node cluster for running Hyper-V virtual machines.

In our old environment we have three HP BL 480 gen5 servers that we want to install Hyper-V 2012 R2 Server (free version) and make a second cluster.

We have 3PAR and EVA storage both connected to SAN switches so all hosts can see them.

If we install a new Hyper-V 2012 R2 cluster on old BL servers, will be able to migrate VM from first cluster to the second one and arround ? I know that 2012 R2 has a feature live migration between different CPUs, also share nothing migration,so in my oppinion this might work or am I wrong ?

Mike

What is the average Windows 8.1 Virtual Machine memory usage at idle on Hyper-V 2012 R2?

Hello, I was just watching a presentation where the spokesperson is stating that Windows VMs (8.1 I assume) on a Hyper-V host with Dynamic Memory enabled can possibly use as little as 300 MB of RAM when idle.

My 8.1 Enterprise VM's with Dynamic Memory enabled still use about 2600 MB of RAM when sitting idle. Is this normal? It would be great to get this usage down. I hear rumors of 'MinWin' but don't think this really relates to a VDI deployment.

Also, I have configured 8 GB for startup RAM if that matters.

Thanks

Hyper-V Virtual Machines Uptime Reporting

$

Hi,

I have the scenario where I have started two DC's, exchange, data & sql virtual machines all at roughly the same time, possibly a few minutes apart.

I then noticed in Hyper-V Manager the uptime on the above machines were different... I checked through the event logs and cannot see any errors as such. I also checked the uptime using "net stats srv", using powershell WMI lastboottime and systeminfo | find /i "boot time" they all report the server has been online since the time I believe I started them and no powerdown  / restart.

Two DCs - 2 days 14 hours
Exchange - 1 day 23 hours
SQL - 1 day
DATA - 6 hours

Any ideas what could be causing Hyper-V reporting the wrong Uptime on the Exchange, SQL and DATA VM?

Thanks,

Adam

Replica Planned Failover - Reverse Replication Fails

$

Replication was created successfully from server HV1 to HV2.  Both HV servers are domain members, with valid DNS.  I can add HV2 to the Hyper-V management console on HV1, and vice versa, so I can manage both servers from either console. (i.e., they talk nicely to each other)

When I run a Planned Failover test, the message shown below pops up saying "Hyper-V failed to enable reverse replication", along with additional info.

Before I needlessly get too wordy in this post, any ideas on what the problem is?

NOTE:  NO firewall is running on either machine.

HyperV Replication fails over VPN

Have 2 sites connected via a VPN...Replication has worked perfect for over a year with 8 servers replicating. I replaced 2 Watchguard firewalls with 2 new Sonicwalls. The tunnels are fine with no drops in the logs etc. I reduced the MTU size so the packets are not be fragmented.

The logs I've looked at on the servers produce no real answers other then replication terminated abnormally. It won't even let me resync. I have to remove replication on both sides and start over and works for about a day or 2 and the server replication goes into a critical state.

Any ideas would be helpful

How to simulate external IP addresses on a single server Hyper-V test environment

$

I just bought a powerful laptop and installed a spare copy of Server 2012 R2 Datacentre on it.

I am in the process of setting up a test LAN with DC, Exchange, TMG firewall web and backup servers.

V host without the use of external physical routing?
I would like to connect a client to the LAN services such as Exchange and VPN in the same way a client device connects to a network over the internet. In other words, I need to test the external IP addresses of my test LAN.

I am considering a setup consisting of two separate LANs with different IP address ranges:
LAN 1: internal network (with all the services mentioned above)
LAN 2: with only one client VM; this would be the external network (simulated internet)

Is this the best way of doing it? Has anyone already done something similar?

Many thanks!

Memory demand is higher then memory assigned?

$

Hello everyone,

I think I broke something (see link at end)...

My CentOS VM in particular is causing me issues all of a sudden. It is configured with dynamic memory, 2GB startup, 2GB maximum, 1GB minimum. It starts up, once the dynamic memory stuff kicks it, the demand goes over 2GB and the assigned hits 2GB, the status becomes Warning. The machine isn't actually using that extra (?) memory but is using all 2GB of it's allocation. I reboot, type reboot and hit enter, and as soon as I hit enter to send the command the memory demand jumps down to its real amount. After the reboot it jumps right back up.

I tried changing the startup and maximum RAM to 4GB and testing again. The machine does the same thing, but its at 2.5GB (roughly) and not over 4GB. Dynamic memory lowers to 3GB (roughly) after a little bit.

I'm not really sure if this is a Hyper-V issue or a CentOS issue or a combination of both.

I notice something similar with a Exchange 2013 Mailbox and Client access server but it's not as bad. The Memory demand is higher the the assigned memory and the maximum memory. But task manger states that 3.5GB of RAM is free, 3.0GB of which are in the cache. This issue is something I just noticed earlier this week. I had a previous exchange installation (that was with exchange 2013 all roles on one server) and it did not do this.

Can anyone make anything of any of this? I'm stumped.

Here are pictures of all the figures I've given. Notice in the CentOS VM the memory in use is certainly not ~2.5GB.

Let me know if you would like more information.

Best way to set up a virtual lab

Hi guys

I now this have been answered a lot of times before, but somehow i can get it to work

What i want is to build a internal network in my Hyper-V with also have access to the internet

This is how i i have configured

My host have just one nic

But i have created two swiches(one internal and one external)

When i started by setting up the DC(For the internal network)

Configures to use the virtual switch

IP: 10.10.10.2

Mask: 255.0.0.0

Gateway: 10.10.10.1

Gateway

Configured two nic, one to use the internal, and the second to use the external

The nic configured with the external switch is set to DHCP. This is used if i trave with my machine i always can connect to the internet with my lab environment

The second nic is configured to use internal switch

IP: 10.10.10.1

Mask 255.0.0.0

Gateway: None

No i try to install RRAS on the server i guess i need to use NAT here

When i now switch to my DC i am able to ping the gateway i am able to ping the other gateway also 192.168.1.1.

But i am not able to connect the internet. From my gateway everything is working just fine

Hope someone can help me answer what im missing

Hyper-V for hospital information system, calculation and requirements?

$

Hi All,

This is my first post here, i am a technical support and developer for one of hospital information system, because its application for healthcare so this application demands performance, reliability and high availability, after a long discussion with my team, we decided to deploy our application and database on Hyper-V VM's. But the problem is we never deploy this apps in VM's before, we usually deploy on physical server, here are our scenario:

for VM1 : Application server (Windows Server 2012 R2), our application would be optimal serve 100 users running on 1 processor with 6 cores  (if deploy on physical server) and 16GB memory.

for VM2 : Database server (SQL Server 2012 R2), usually we use 4 to 6 cores (if deploy on physical server) with 16GB memory.

the questions:

1. Can someone help me with the Hyper-V VM's calculation or configuration regarding computing power for host and guest? like how much vCPU? Dinamyc Memory? (we intended using Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 as hypervisor)

2. What if i want to use fail-over cluster ? does our fail-over must be on VM's too?

3. For SQL Server on VM, which one more impact on performance, assign a lot of vCPU or memory?

4. Can someone suggest me the hardware requirements for those scenarios?

Thank you for the help.

Regards,

Mahdi.
