Hi,

I have configured Hyper-V in My Windows8.1 machine and installed 3 VMs with Windows8, windows Vista and Windows XP SP3.

I am able to connect network from VM with Windows 8 but unable to connect network with VMs with OS Visat and XP.

for all VMs, I have created ONE Vertual Network in view of using one VM only at a time.

So, Same virtual network adapert given access to the network in Windows 8 VM but not in Vista and XP VMs

Please give me suggestion to rectify this.

Thanks,

Sri

I'm looking for an MSDN expert who could answer me if the SQL Enterprise MSDN license could be use in the Cloud environment?
If it will also work with Azure? IF it does, will it work in the Public/Private/Bare Metal environment.

Cluster Quorum Disk failing inside Guest cluster VMs in Hyper-V Cluster using Virtual Disk Sharing Windows Server 2012 R2

Hi, I'm having a problem in a VM Guest cluster using Windows Server 2012 R2 and virtual disk sharing enabled.

It's a SQL 2012 cluster, which has around 10 vhdx disks shared this way. all the VHDX files are inside LUNs on a SAN. These LUNs are presented to all clustered members of the Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V cluster, via Cluster Shared Volumes.

Yesterday happened a very strange problem, both the Quorum Disk and the DTC disks got the information completetly erased. The vhdx disks themselves where there, but the info inside was gone.

The SQL admin had to recreated both disks, but now we don't know if this issue was related to the virtualization platform or another event inside the cluster itself.

Right now I'm seen this errors on one of the VM Guest:

We don't know if this can happen again, what if this happens on disk with data?! We don't know if this is related to the virtual disk sharing technology or anything related to virtualization, but I'm asking here to find out if it is a possibility.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks.

2102R2 hosts. Start initial replication for VM and after a period of time it fails, I resume replication and it goes on for a while longer and fails again. The event log shows Event ID 33680, followed immediately by 32086, followed immediately 32022. I cannot figure out what is causing the failure and the event id's provide no information. I am not sure how to start troubleshooting this one.

Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V and Drivers

Hello all,

Question is regarding drivers on our Dell Systems we are deploying for use in a MSFT 2012 R2 environment.  Some of the systems are showing requiring NIC driver updates from Dell.  I'm a little leery of replacing the MSFT drivers with Dell Drivers so want to hear back on recommendations.  I'm concerned that MSFT may not have tested fully the drivers and/or Hyper-V has been tested extensively using MSFT drivers versus vendor NIC drivers.

I am getting this errorerror migrating a vm from server 2012 r2 to server 2012

I successfully live migrated this same vm from 2012 to 2012r2.
I then added a 10Gig Nic (intel x540)to the server 2012 hyperv host, changed the vswitches accordingly, and tried to move the VM back.

Hyper V Virtual Machine Fails to start when physical drives are added

I have a single physical server in my test setup and I am experimenting with virtualization.

The Hyper V Host is Server 2012 R2 Standard.  Currently it is running in the Essentials Role plus also running Flex Raid with 7 physical hard drives.

I am attempting to set this up correctly by making the host only function in the Hyper V Role and shift the Essentials role to a virtual machine and move Flex Raid to another virtual machine.  I am running into a roadblock with the 2nd step (the Flex Raid virtual machine).

I successfully created the virtual machine, installed Server 2012 R2.  It runs fine with no errors.  I then took the physical hard drives offline and tried to attach them to the virtual machine.  When I tried to boot it up the VM begins to start, it then crashes and restarts 7 times, and then finally crashes.  I get a 7 identical critical alerts that says

'VM was reset because an unrecoverable error occurred on a virtual processor that caused a triple fault. If the problem persists, contact Product Support. (Virtual machine ID )

I have 7 physical hard drives that I added, so it appears that there is 1 alert for each physical drive.

If I remove the physical drives, the VM starts back up without a problem.

I then tried to add a single physical hard drive and then tried to start the VM.  The crash and reboot sequence I saw previously returned, but it did it only once and I only received one of the critical alerts (again matching the number of physical drives).

Unfortunately the error message is not the most helpful so I'm not even sure where to turn next.  Does anyone have a clue?

If it matters, the 7 physical drives are SATA drives, connected through an IBM M1015 SAS Controller.  Is this possibly a compatibility issue?  Or do I need to pass through the controller to to the Virtual Machine.  I looked through the settings but nothing jumped out at me to do this.

Hyper-V guest NICs fail

So I got two new servers a Dell R620 and a R720 running Hyper-V on Windows 2012 R2 all clients on them are 2012 or 2012 R2.

All NICs are Broadcom NetXtreme, 2 quad port per server, I am currently running 15.6.0.10 drivers with 7.6.15 firmware on the R720 and 16.2.0.4 drivers and 7.8.16 firmware on the R620. No guest NICs are teamed.

In the last 2 weeks I had two guest NICs in hyper-v (with a few days between) on the R620 and 1 on the R720 fail to a point where the NIC cant communicate with the network, getting a 169.x.x.x IP address. I delete the NIC in the Virtual Switch Manager, re-add it and everything is fine again. I don't allow the managing OS to share the network adapter, for the most part, I use 1 NIC per VM.

I recall this happening back with Hyper-V 2008 R2 as well, but generally at the time of a driver update or some sort of change. These Hyper-V hosts have no received any drivers, firmware or Microsoft updates anywhere around the time of these failures.

Any ideas?

Improper Install of Hyper-V 2012 R2 Integration Services on 2008 R2 VMs

I have two VMs that have one or more missing/broken services after upgrading to Integration Services 6.3.9600.16384.  On one VM the Hyper-V Remote Desktop Virtualization Service is missing and the Hyper-V Data Exchange Service won't start.  The other VM was missing the Hyper-V Remote Desktop Virtualization Service.  I was able to create that service by restoring registry entries from another VM with working integration services and re-registering the DLLs from the driver, but the service won't start.  Both services that won't start return the error "1083: The executable program that this service is configured to run in does not implement the service".   I also tried an Offline Install of Integration Services, but that didn't fix anything.  Since I am running 2008 R2, there is no uninstall available (I did modify the powershell script from the abve link to uninstall, but it didn't work).  I have been un-successful in finding a way to trick/force the installer to install again over top of itself.

Hyper-V permissions reset themselves?

I have Hyper-v server 2008 r2 installed on a server, and we have our hyper-v software to access the servers installed on another pc. Starting a few days ago when we open the hyper-v software to access or reset a VM, we get the error that we do not have permission to access the server that hyper-v server is installed on. This seemed to happen out of nowhere, not having much experience with hyper-v I'm not sure how to go about giving that pc permission to once again access the server.

Hyper-V 2012 Cluster, CSV and WSB VMs Backup

Hi All,

Suppose Ihavethe following scenario:

Server 1: Windows Server 2012  STD (DC), Server 2: Hyper-V Server 2012 (core) , Server 3: Hyper-V Server 2012 (core), Server 4: ISCSI Storage.

The servers above are configured in a two node CSV Cluster.

I heard that WSB 2012 is able to backup VMs within a Cluster. It can workin this scenario?

Where can I findanydocumentation on this?

Linux guest doesn't see all SCSI vhds 2008R2/CentOS6.5

Hello,

Hyper-V newbie here.

I have a CentOS 6.5 guest with 1 IDE drive on the first IDE controller and 10 SCSI drives all on a single SCSI controller. The linux box does not see anything past /dev/sdh (the 7th SCSI drive). I have tried the stock 2.6.32-431 kernel as well as the kernel-lt-3.10.36-1 and kernel-ml-3.14.0-1 kernels from elrepo.

dmesg shows:

...

sd  2:0:0:0: [sda] 41943040 512-byte logical blocks: (21.4 GB/20.0 GiB)

... and so on for sda-sdh ...

The "INQUIRY" line might be related to my issue, I really have no idea.

Has anyone else seen this problem or found a fix? The only workaround I have found is to add another SCSI controller. Right now I have the guest running with 2 SCSI controllers with 5 drives each.

i have a windows server 2008 with hyper v installed on it. I have 3 virtual machines running on it, and i am unable to connect to one of them from hyper-v mmc. clicking on the machine will result in a blank screen, then a message that a connection timeout has occurred. the other 2 machines are connecting just fine. The problems seems to have started on Wednesday when backup exec stopped backing up that server. i am able to connect to the machine using remote desktop. any help is appreciated.

Thank you

Error creating virtual machine (Client Hyper-V, Win 8 Pro)

I'm using an AlienWare M14 machine. I tried to create a virtual machine locally using Client Hyper-V on Windows 8 Pro, but it still doesn't work (took me a lot of time). I added the Hyper-V features in "Turn windows feature on or off", and all of the requirements to run Hyper-V are fulfilled (SLAT, BIOS, 64 bits, ...) (I attach the msinfo32 output in this post). At the last step in creating a virtual machine, it says "... The system cannot find the path specified... (0x80070003)" (for details, check my attached image). I googled, tried some solutions but still no luck so far.

Thanks for any help.

Win 2012 R2 VM on Win 2008 R2 FOC is backed up with Saved State instead of Snapshot by DPM

$

All my Windows 2012 R2 VM's (that run on a 3-node Windows 2008 R2 Fail-over cluster) are backed up by DPM 2012 R2 (also on Windows 2008 R2) using Saved State instead of Child Partition Snapshot. I've checked the list below, but didn't find anything applicable to these VM's.

  • Backup (Volume Snapshot) Integration Service is disabled or not installed.
  • The virtual machine has one or more dynamic disks.
  • The virtual machine has one or more non-NTFS based volumes.
  • The virtual machine Cluster Resource Group in a cluster setup is offline.
  • The virtual machine is not in a running state.
  • A ShadowStorage assignment of a volume inside the virtual machine is explicitly set to a different volume other than itself.
  • An App-V drive is installed on the virtual machine that creates a non-NTFS volume.

I've set the registry setting SystemRestore\ScopeSnapshots to 0 for each VM, and checked the current state with the diskshadow tool (to make sure it wasn't just an erronous datasource text in DPM).

Can somebody point me in a direction on how to further investigate this problem? I'm running out of ideas for this one :-(

TIA!

why is copying between host and hyper-v vm so slow - Win 2012 R2?

$

Hello,

I have a poweredge T610 with a 1GB Cache controller in RAID 50 with 6 fast drives.  I have the cache policy turned on.   If I copy a VHD file on the host from the same volume to the same volume on the host, it copies with an average speed of 700MB/s (starting out around 800 and finishing around 500 keeping at around 750 most of the way).

If I try to copy from the host to a share on a VM (fixed drive 500 GB on the partition - hosted on the same volume that the I got 750MB/s copying from host to the same host) - I get about 75MB/s.     If I try to copy from the VM to the host I also get about 75MB/s average.    If I turn off the windows firewall (I'm not using any other software firewall on the server) I get about 105MB/s on average.       I have the nics on the host and VM in a trunk and I got about the same speed when the Nics were set up as single nics so that didn't change performance much.    I tried turning off IPv4 large send offload - no difference.  I tried just about every single option in the hyperv nic settings - no significant difference.

The host server and the VM are on the same subnet, on the same switch.    It is after hours and there is no backup or any user activity on the network.   I've tried Broadcom and intel server nics with the latest firmware and drivers.

Is there some trick to getting better performance/throughput on the VMs?
