Cannot mount ISO from remote share in Clustered Hyper-v R2 if FCM runs on remote machine

0
0

If I run Failover Cluster manager on Hyper-V 2012 R2 host itself, I can mount iso that resides on another server (remote share). That was done via share option/security/cifs delagation (does it really need to be that complicated?)

But if I run FCM snapin from another machine (as one should do, as Hyper-V should NOT have GUI installed) via RSAT then there is no way i can mount iso. I always get access denied error

Any ideas?

Hyper-V Windows 8: Error Applying Virtual Switch Properties Changes - Wireless network

I am experiencing an issue when I removed the Wireless device and then re-installed it on Hyper-V Windows 8.

The error states : "Failed while modifying virtual Ethernet Switch connection settings" followed by "Ethernet port {f...} bind failed unspecified error (0x80004005)"

Is anyone else experiencing this kind of issue?

I deleted the vhdx in CSV before removing the vdisk from Hyperv mgr. Now when I try to add a newly created vhdx I get this error, failed to add device virtual hard disk. See screenshot for more details. Please help!

Terrible disk performance inside VM

0
0

I am running Windows Server 2012 R2 with a VM running in Hyper-V. Prior to this host being 2012 R2, it was 2008 R2 but this problem existed then, too. I wiped 08 R2 and installed 2012 R2.

We have awful performance from within the virtual machine in Hyper-V.

Below are two screenshots that demonstrates what performance monitor displays from within the VM.

It will write, it will stop, it will resume.

Its VHD files are stored on a ReadyNAS 4220X connected by iSCSI. We are unable to upgrade to VHDX because it is one half of a DAG and you cannot have mixed VHD/VHDX. There is another VM still powered off that has the same problem and it has been converted to VHDX.

I have tried a number of different configurations:

Multiple NICs connected with MCS to bonded NICs (LACP) on the ReadyNAS. (192.168.13.x)
Standalone NIC connected to bonded NICs on the ReadyNAS. (192.168.13.X)
Standalone NIC connected to the same bonded ReadyNAS NICs. (10.1.1.X)
Standalone NIC connected to the standalone NIC on the ReadyNAS. (10.1.1.X)

The 192.168.13.X network is dedicated to iSCSI traffic and the 10.1.1.X is our production LAN through a different physical switch, just to illustrate that I have attempted different ways of pinning down the problem.

If I copy directly to the iSCSI target from the host machine, transfer is normal. If I copy from another machine on the network from within the problem VM, the transfer itself is fast but when it goes to write to the drive, we will see the terrible performance issue.

The RAID volume on the ReadyNAS is completely dedicated to this VM at this point. There is nothing else running on it. I have disabled the checksumming on the volume that can sometimes cause issues and have disabled TCP offloading as suggested in all documents detailing fixes for poor iSCSI performance. The machine is fully patched and, as I said at the beginning, this issue existed in both Server 2008 R2 and Server 2012 R2. The host machine is a Dell PowerEdge R610.

Scehduled pause for Replica

How would I schedule a pause in Replica? The situation I have is that for some reason when Windows Server backup runs Replica seems to miss several cycles.  Each day Replica misses more cycles and then finally it stops working altogether. The version is Server 2012.

High CPU activity - Terminal services

Hi,

I have an HP DL360 G7 with 2 VMs on Hyper-v 2008R2.  When users connect and open apps, the CPU runs at 100%.  I've enabled the BIOS virtual settings and changed it to run just one VM with 32GB RAM but the same symptoms persist?

The VM is running with 4 Virtual processors, any ideas?

Thanks, Matt.

Powercut reverted VM to previous state

Hi

I have Windows 2008 Enterprise Server running Hyper-V.

I have several VMs running on it.

There was a powercut over the weekend which resulted in the machine being ungracefully switched off.

On restarting the machine, we found out that one of the VMs was reverted back to a state a few months ago which means we lost all changes since then to now.

Kindly advise if this is a bug or if some changes are to be made to ensure that this does not happen again.

Thanks in advance.

Hello!

I installed Hyper-V server 2012 R2 evaluation version in a virtual machine but when i log in it goes to system32\sconfig.cmd, what should i do to run it in windows mode, and it doesn't find a network adapter is it because i'm plugged by wi-fi?

I really need to evaluate Hyper-V working, but i can't make it work

Thank you

Fixed VHDX usage and convert from dynamic vhdx to fixed

Hi,

"When you create a fixed disk, it will allocate all the space it needs on the physical drive on which it is created.  Even if you write just a single ASCII character into that file, it will use all the space allocated."

What does this mean .. If I create a VHDX with 380GB and create 2 partition on it ( 80 GB for OS and 300GB applications), if I install OS on 80GB partition, will that 80GB space gets allocated ? Is that how it is ?

Can I change dynamic VHDX to fixed one after installing installing the OS and applications

Thanks.

Hyper-V Server: How can I update drivers with limited Device Manager access?

I have a brand new Intel server, SR2625URLX. I want to use Hyper-V server R2. I have been having some issues with the networking, and Intel wants me to update to the latest drivers which have been certified for R2 versions of 2008, Hyper-V, etc. It was a struggle just to get it so I can see the device manager, but come to find out it is read-only when using remotely and there is no local GUI for it. I need to update the drivers. I tried copying the drivers to a share, and running this on both of the inf files thaat were part of the driver set, but the driver did not change (even after a reboot):

pnputil -i -a <driverinf>

What else can I do to update the drivers for my NIC's?

vmconnect.exe stopped working

Hello all,

when trying to connect to a VM using the console in Hyper-V manager I am getting vmconnect.exe has stopped working with the following error.

  Problem Event Name:CLR20r3
  Problem Signature 01:vmconnect.exe
  Problem Signature 02:6.1.0.0
  Problem Signature 03:4ce75fbd
  Problem Signature 04:vmconnect
  Problem Signature 05:6.1.0.0
  Problem Signature 06:4ce75fbd

  Problem Signature 08:29
  Problem Signature 09:System.ArgumentException
  OS Version:6.1.7601.2.1.0.272.7
  Locale ID:2057

Is there anything specific I can do to resolve this, I have searched the forums but the responses vary and seem very vague as to what is the actual solution to the issue.

Thanks,

Hyper-V - 'Failed to start the virtual machine 'test' because one of the Hyper-V components is not running.'

Hi all,

Having a bit of a nightmare with Hyper-V on my Windows 8 Pro laptop - Whenever I create a new VM and try to start it I receive the following error;

'Failed to start the virtual machine 'test' because one of the Hyper-V components is not running.'

I sometimes also receive an error saying something along the lines of 'Unable to change virtual machine state'

I have done a lot of searching a seen two common answers - The first is to try removing the Hyper-V role and re-adding it - I have tried this several times to no avail. (Intel VT and all virtualisation capabilities are enabled in BIOS). The second issue it would seem some people have had relates to editing the VMX configuration file and adding the linehypervisor.cpuid.v0 = "FALSE" - I thought VMX files were only present in VMware Virtual Machines...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

James

Extra OLD experimental VMs

When I was testing the system out, before I created the final production Hyper-V Exchange server, I tested with other machines.

The are no longer showing in Hyper-V manager, nor are they active.

But, the are still physically on the drive, taking up varying amount. One 11GB, one 10GB ec.

If I can delete these non-production machines, I can bring back maybe 30GB off my 1 TB of drive space, that is now down to 75GB.

Sound OK?

Hyper-V 2012 Standalone replica

Hello all,

I am trying to set up a POC using 2x Hyper-V 2012 standalone machines. 1 host has a virtual machine that is going to replication to another host across WAN.

I've read that if I am using two standalone boxes, I must use certificates for replication. I have installed a GoDaddy wildcard cert however when I try to enable certificate based authentication, I get a "No valid certificate found" error. I have checked the requirements based on this blog

http://blogs.technet.com/b/virtualization/archive/2012/03/13/hyper-v-replica-certificate-requirements.aspx

but I still get same error. Any ideas?

Thanks,

hyper-v manager in windows 8.1 cannot connect to hyper-v server. RPC server unavailable

0

I am setting up a new server. I installed Hyper-V 2012 R2 on it and want to manage it remotely with Hyper-V manager from a Windows 8.1 computer. I am unable to communicate with the computer with the server. Hyper-V manager gives me the following error: RPC Server Unavailable. Unable to establish communication between "the hypervserver" and "the W8.1station". Both computer are located in the same subnet and both are on the same domain.

I configured the server with a fixed IP, DNS, to accept pings, connected it to the domain and set it up to allow remote access and management. Although I do not think it is necessary, I added my domain account to the administrators group in the hyper-V server. I can perfectly ping the server and remote into the server from the W8.1 station. From he server I can also ping the W8.1 station as well as exterior websites (DNS functionality is ok).

I have play with the firewall in both, the Hyper-V server and the management station and have not being able to get them to communicate. Blaming the Hyper-V server for all this and the great time that I have already spent on this problem, I borrowed a Windos 7 Pro computer, installed RSAT and enabled the Hyper-V manager in that computer. Launched the manager AND CONNECTED TO THE HYPER-V SERVER WITH NO PROBLEMS AT ALL !!!!!!!

I have read a lot already about this but most people having this issue are setting up servers in a workgroup environment, and almost nobody is using Windows 8.1 as the management station. Can someone PLEASE give me a hand with this problem??

Thanks to you all !!!

Copying files to VM vhdx very, very slow!

Hi,

I am setting up my first Virtualised environment (Hyper-V 2012 R2) on a Dell Poweredge R720 and I am experiencing performance issues when copy files (around 500mb) from an existing physical server to a virtual Window 2012 R2 server.

The copying is saying that the throughput is around 10kbps/sec which is horrendously slow.

OK I will now describe what I have done so far.

Brand new sever was purchase from Dell and it has:

32GB of RAM
2 RAID virtual disks, the first in RAID 1 configuration with 2 x 2TB (2TB mirror) SAS 7200 hdds where I have installed my Windows 2012 R2 Core server. The second is RAID 5 with 3 x 2TB SAS 7200 hdds, total storage under 4TB.
Perc H310 Raid controller.
Twin Intel 2.4Ghz Quad core XEON CPUS

I have created 2 virtual machines under my host OS, the first is a Windows 2012 R2 backup domain controller(we have a Windows 2003 R2 physical server which has had its AD schema already upgraded as primary DC).

There is 1 forest, 1 domain, therefore, it is a small network.

When I am copying data or files from the physical server to the guest Windows 2012 R2 VM the throughput is very, very low. For 500MB it is going to take 4 hours.

I have created a 4 card NIC team on the hyper-visor to improve network throughput.

The VMs were created with a base 2GB dynamic RAM and a 200GB dynamic Vhdd and 1 processor.

What am I doing wrong?

I have read somewhere that:

1)I should be using fixed Virtual HDDs instead on dynamic ones. I should be doing the same with RAM as wel.
2) Change the Perc H310 for either a Perc H710 or Perc H710P, Perc H810.
3) Use 10K or 15K RPM drives. This would be expensive.

The server platform was not specified by me. The client told me that he wanted to virtualize his server and now I am experiencing severe bottlenecks.

What can I do to improve things dramatically?

Thanks

Regards

Ipnotech
