Hi,

I'm trying to install the Hyper-V server by using the DVD image from MS but it keep asking for the drivers. I tried different drivers but none of them work (Win7, Win8, Win8.1). Any idea??

(I'm installing the server to a normal PC with i5 4GB) Does it has any special requirement to have it installed?? I tried the VMWare without any problem.

Thanks.

I have a working VPN connection. Everything works great, BUT the Hyper-V manager.

I get this error:

I have done this; without any result: http://blogs.technet.com/b/jhoward/archive/2008/08/07/hyper-v-why-does-hyper-v-manager-not-always-work-over-vpn-connection-access-denied-or-rpc-server-unavailable-errors.aspx

The DHCP IP i get is 10.10.0.25 and the Hyper-V manager have IP 192.168.1.81 (its on a different network). All firewalls are disabled. Same problem with sstp and ikev2.

Windows 8.1 as client and Hyper-v CORE server.

Any ideas?

HDCP Issues with Hyper V and AMD video drivers

Hello

I have purchased a legitimate copy of Windows 8 Pro and have acquired two films through Xbox video, I also have a Netflix account. Whenever I try to watch the purchased videos or play a movie through Netflix I receive the following errors.

After much research I understand that it can be caused by a combination of different things.

  • AMD Video Drivers
  • Hyper V
  • Windows Media Player/Xbox Video bug
  • Windows 8 bug

Here is my computer specification

As you can see I have the latest driver installed, I have also tested video playback from these apps on every previous version of the video driver. I also require Hyper V and Windows 8 (as is) for work so these things cannot be compromised.  I have also opened up posts on the following forums so please do not try and direct me to someone else.

Cannot run the big size exe file (>900MB) on Windows Storage Server 2003 x86 SP2 OS(Hyper-V VM machine)

When I run a big size exe file(>900 MB) on Windows Storage Server  2003 x86 SP2 OS VM mchine(which is managered by Hyper-V server), I got the following error message:

Windows cannot open this program because the license enforcement system has been tampered with or become corrupted.

This setup.exe should be a trusted source because of it run other OS(windows 2003, windows 2008, 2008 R2 etc.).  we use the same way to create the exe whose size < 700MB, it works fine on the same machine(Windows StorageServer 2003 x86 SP2 OS VM machine).  So I assume that the file size(>900MB) causes the problem, It seems that OS dont' support it.

My questions:

1. Is there the limitation of exe size to run on WindowsStorage Server  2003 x86 SP2 OS VM machine?  If yes, what is the size of limitation?

2. What reason is this error? Is it related with Hyper-V?

Thanks,

Recky

Hyper-V replication across versions (2012 to 2012 R2 and vice versa)

Does Hyper-V support cross-version replication? In other words, can Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V replicate to Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V server? Vice versa? I tried looking for documentation or blog posts about this but couldn't find any.

Enabling Bitlocker on HyperV server after VM's in use

Hi, I cannot seem to find a good answer to this.

I have Windows Server 2012 R2 installed on a new server. I have enabled HyperV on the server and already have 3 VM's running on it, including an Exchange 2013 server.

Can I enable Bitlocker on the HyperV server while there are already VHDX's on the data drive?

What would be the best way to enable HyperV in this scenario?

Dynamic(Switch Independent) NIC Teaming Mode Problem

$

Hi,

We are using Switch Independent Dynamic distribution NIC Teaming configuration on Hyper-V 2012 R2 cluster. In the following graphs between 19:48 - 19:58 you can see clearly how dynamic NIC teaming mode badly affected the web servers response times.

We have encountered this problem on the different cluster nodes that use different NIC chipsets Intel or Broadcom and configured with dynamic NIC teaming for VM Network connection.

If we change the teaming mode as Hyper-V Port or remove NIC teaming for VM network as you can see from the graphic, response times are back to normal.

Any ideas?

The Default Virtual Machine Configuration Store Cannot be Changed......

I am trying to change the default virtual machine configuration store from within the hyper-v settings to a SMB 3.0 share.  I have been able to change the Hard Disk location but when I try to change the Virtual Machines location I get an error:

Failed to modify service settings

The default virtual machine configuration store cannot be change to '\\computer\sharename\'  The network path was not found.

I have check both NTFS and share permissions and both Hyper-v servers have full access to this share.  If they hadn't I wouldn't have been able to change the Hard Disk locations.

What am I missing?

Problems with PVLAN

I have setup a Isolated network with a primary and secondary vlan using Server 2012 R2 hosts.

Everything works ok on the virtual Machines when settings are published.

But after a restart the isolated network doesnt respond, its more or less dead. Even though Everything says  OK.

I have also a normal truncated vlan on Another NIC that works fine all the time.

If I do a shutdown of the virtual machine and then start it, the isolated network works fine.

Tryed the same network on a 2012 Host, and there I can do restarts of virtual Machines without problem.

Any suggestion where to look now? Im suspecting that I get a lock somewhere, maybe on the Vswitch maybe on the physical switch. But cant really find anything.

Hyper-V 2012 Live Migration dropping packets and causing all guests to drop packets.

$

Heres the run down - I have Hyper-V 2012 Server configured on a 4 node cluster with 1GB iSCSI storage and NIC team with 4 physical ports and a vNIC created for each MGMT, LM and CSV.

The issue I had was that during a live migration, of only 1 guest, it would get to the 50% range and start dropping packets until a little after it had finished migrating, so around 10 pings. But not only was the guest that was migrating dropping packets, all the other guests on the source host would also drop packets, about 5-6 pings, during the live migration of that single guest.

I read thread after thread, rechecked all the configurations (I was positive it was working perfectly prior to migrating all my guests from 2008R2) but I couldn't find anything definitive.

Just the other day I added another host to this 4 node cluster to bring it up to 5. Everything was configured correctly and when I added the host, all was hunky dory. The Cluster Validation was fine and all looked good, until I moved a test VM onto the host and i found that the guest had zero connectivity to the LAN.

Again, went through everything, all seemed to be ok so I decided to rebuild the NIC team which all the vNIC sit on - After I did that, voila, it worked fine and the interesting part was when I moved a couple of test VM's onto the the new node, I wanted to test the live migration times, and wouldn't you know, the issue with the dropping packets during an LM didn't occur (only 2 pings dropped at the end of the LM as per normal) the other VM sitting on the host didn't drop any packets at all.

So it appears the issue was the NIC team, I didn't want to have to rebuild all the NIC Teams on all the hosts as this would require a fair bit of downtime, so instead I opted for testing the NVSPBIND tool (NVSPBIND Home) to unbind the vms_pp protocol and then re-bind it. It worked.

Effectively all I had to do was run the following command

nvspbind /u VM_Team     (VM_Team is the name of the NIC team I have)

nvspbind /r VM_Team

The above commands will drop all network communications, I suggest moving all guest's of the host you are doing this to and also running it via iLO/iDRAC etc.

After this, LM was working perfectly again.

The only issue I still have is that I don't know why it happened or what caused it.

Anyway - Just thought I'd share as it was a unique scenario which I wasn't able to find anything definitive on.

Issues with RHEL VM - Network - Degraded (Integration Service Upgrade Required)

Experts,

We are facing issues with Linux VMs which is frequently becomes unreachable in network. The workaround to make it back is either moving the VM to a different host or disconnecting/reconnecting the virtual switch from VM Settings.

Host Machine

HP BL460C with Windows 2012 R2

All latest patches

Teamed NIC for HyperV Data Traffic

VM

RHEL 6.3 and RHEL 6.4

RHEL 6.3 is having Integration Service 3.4. This is a VM which got moved from a Windows Server 2012 HyperV.

I dont see any new release of Integration Service after 3.4 which is specific for Windows Server 2012 R2.

Another issue is the Integration component is not getting displayed in HyperV Manager and a Warning message on the Network component which says "Degraded" IC needs upgrade. Sharing those screenshots. However, This warning was there in the previous Windows Server 2012 HyperV servers too, but no network drops.

Appreciate your help !

Hyper-V 2012 Cluster Shared Volume is no longer available on this node

We are having problems in our Hyper-V environment (4 node cluster Windows server 2012)

Problems started during backups with Quest netvault, but now we are facing problems during live migrations etc.

Here are some events

Cluster Shared Volume 'Volume5' ('Cluster Disk 6') is no longer available on this node because of 'STATUS_CONNECTION_DISCONNECTED(c000020c)'. All I/O will temporarily be queued until a path to the volume is reestablished.

Cluster resource 'SCVMM server name 1' of type 'Virtual Machine' in clustered role 'SCVMM server name 1 Resources' failed.

Based on the failure policies for the resource and role, the cluster service may try to bring the resource online on this node or move the group to another node of the cluster and then restart it.  Check the resource and group state using Failover Cluster Manager or the Get-ClusterResource Windows PowerShell cmdlet.

The cluster service encountered an unexpected problem and will be shut down. The error code was '2226'.

Can anyone say is this correct hotfix to resolve this problemhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/2870270

Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V role - 2003 VM's hang on shut down or restart

Hi

I have a standalone 2012 R2 with the Hyper-V role installed.  It hosts a number of VM's of varying operating systems, but I have a problem with two 2003 R2 SP2 virtual servers.  Both of them are unable to restart or shut down properly, they stop responding at the grey screen after the shutting down dialog box has disappeared.  Both have up to date integration services installed.  Both will require a turn off or reset to bring the VM to a working state.  There is no difference between initiating the reboot from inside the VM OS or from the Hyper-V console, in both cases the same issue occurs.  No relevant errors are noted in the event logs of the VM (last event is the event log service stopping) or in the logs on the Hyper-V host. Other VM's (e.g. 2008 R2) have no problems restarting or shutting down.

I am wondering if this is another "feature" of the new R2 release?

Hyper-V Replica between Clusters - Replication breaks with: "The device does not recognize the command. (0x80070016)."

Hi Everybody,

Scope:

  • 2x 4-Node Hyper-V 2012 Datacenter Clusters connected by a 10Gbits Link
  • Hyper-V replication configured between them using replication broker.
  • Using Kerberos Authentication.

Problem:

  • Sometimes (every 2 or 3 days) a replication breaks and must be resumed manually.
  • When the replication stops we found these 2 errors in eventlog on the source cluster node:
  • Hyper-V suspended replication for virtual machine 'xxxxx' due to a non-recoverable failure. (Virtual Machine ID xxxxxx). Resume replication after correcting the failure.
  • Hyper-V could not replicate changes for virtual machine 'xxxxx' : The device does not recognize the command. (0x80070016). (Virtual Machine ID xxxxxxx)
  • Later event Hyper-V-VMMS 29174 show very small amount of data pending to be replicated for the broken replication VM (200mb)
  • It seems happening more frequently on a large VMs.

Looking online i found nothing but a lot of people having this specific problem, someone has ever found a solution?

Thanks

/Mat

Hello

I need to find out how I can create a test environment from our production environment. I need to make an exactly copy of it. The production is physical and the test environment would be in Hyper-V. Vmware is also OK but the best option would be Hyper-V. And my chef wants this do be done 1-2 times a month automatically.

I am new in this bransch and very confused about this, have anyone done anything like this before? How did you do it?

sorry for my bad english, hope you all get it ;)
