Hyper-V Access Denied Error

0
0

Hi

We I have several Hyper-V 3.0 servers and am trying to manage the virtual machines using Hyper-V Manager on my Windows 8 Pro workstation

When I try to connect to a Hyper-V server I get the error message "Access Denied.  Unable to establish communication between <host> and <client>"

There are plenty of posts on TechNet and otherwise explaining how to fix this by editing Access Permissions of the Anonymous Logon via Component Services.  I have done this and am still getting the error message.

Additionally I have seen some posts saying to flush the DNS on client & host but this also has not worked for me.

Does anybody have any other suggestions on how to resolve this error?

Many thanks

Hyper-V 2012: Backup fails with "The number of volumes reverted does not match the number of volumes in the snapshot set for virtual machine"

Hi Everyone,

I've recently P2V'd two Dell servers running Server 2003 R2 to a Hyper-V 2012 box. The configuration of the each server is very similar, each one now having one virtualised disk containing 3 partitions - Dell Utility, Windows, Data. I do a daily backup of the Hyper-V host including the online VMs. One server backs up fine with no issues. However the other server gives me the following error at the beginning of the backup:

Log Name:      Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-VMMS-Admin
Source:        Microsoft-Windows-Hyper-V-VMMS
Date:          12/06/2013 20:02:52
Event ID:      10112
Task Category: None
Level:         Error
Keywords:
User:          SYSTEM
Computer:      HYPERV01
Description:
The number of volumes reverted does not match the number of volumes in the snapshot set for virtual machine 'SAPServer' (Virtual machine ID C905ECC8-B247-42D7-B986-F5F97FD87B3B).

I don't see any event log errors in the guest vm at this time

I've searched for solutions and most refer to Server 2008 resolving the above with hotfixes, rollups etc. The only one that could possibly be applicable is maybe kb975695 which refers to a disk signature clash. (Sorry- can't post link until my account is verified!). I tried the resolution here but to no avail. I can also successfully mount the vhdx when the vm is offline with no issues.

As an interim measure I decided to do an in-vm backup to a passthough USB drive connect to the above problem vm.

The really curious part is the Hyper-V backup of the online VMs works OK and gives no error when the passthrough disk is attached. So obviously changing the drive configuration seems to do something.

Any ideas ???

Some questions about implement a basic Replica environment

0
0

Hi everyone,

I would like to have recommendations about my desired replica implementation.

I have 2 physical server with W2K12 Datacenter.

The first one (WK12HV01) will host 2 VM, 1 virtual DC host and another VM with a third party application like reporting services.

The another one (W2K12HV02), will be the replica server for those VM's.

My proposal is to have implemented the replica solution between these hosts in a workgroup environment with certificate-based replication. (I've read tutorials about this solution and there is no problem to implement it).

What would you recommend me to have a good virtual infraestructura of these 2 VM's?

I wouldn't like to feel a bad performance in this environment, although only will have 50 Windows 7 clients.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations...

Best backup software for a virtual environment

Dear all,

I'll implement a virtual basic infraestructure with 2 VM's with an Hyper-V hipervisor. So, I have experience with Backup Exec in a Physical environment, but I think in Virtual infraestructure the things are a bit different.

Then, what solution would you recommend me to backup the VM's? Veam Backup? Backup Exec?, etc...

Thanks for your help.

administrator password ?

Hi: I just created a new virtual machine with the vhd_server_serverdatacentereval_en-us.exe (9200.16384.amd64fre.win8_rtm.120725-1247_server_serverdatacentereval_en-us.vhd) file from TechNet.

When I startup the machine, the first thing it does is asking for an administrator password, after the CTRL-ALT-DEL in Hyper-V.

I thought it will be asking me to type-in a NEW password, but no, I cannot login.. I tried blank left the field blank, I tried Password, etc.... nothing works.....

What's the default password?

thanks

Can I use Virtual SAN with Dell equalogic iSCSI SAN ?

Hi

I am wondering if using Dell Equalogic iSCSI SAN for creating Virtual SAN in Server 2012 .

I slightly getting confused if it is only meant to use with fibre channel hardware.

Thanks

Windows 2012 Server: Domain Controller won't start. Error 0xc00002e2

Hey all,

This is my situation. I building a Failover Cluster for Hyper-V. No problems with that. I installed several new virtual server.

Most are Windows Server 2008R2 but the domain controllers are Windows Server 2012. After I add a new node and test the live migration I noticed that my two domain controllers were offline.

So I check the console of both domain controllers, they hanging with a blue screen on error 0xc00002e2. I restart them, but no luck. The only way to start them is in "Active Directory Recovery Mode".

Error 0xc00002e2 means: Directory Services could not start because of the following error: A device attached to the system is not functioning. Of course I check the virtual machine hardware. Nothing was changed.

Both domain controllers were clean installations, nothing else than the domain controller was installed. The cluster is a migration from physical hardware, we are in a test stage. So I'm lucky there are to other domain controllers.

I can reinstall the virtual machines.

But I'm concern about the future. What if this happens about 3 weeks when all the data is moved to the new servers and this are the only 2 domain controllers...

Online CSV expansion

We would like to expand our running CSV volume of two node cluster. Windows 2012 servers.

In our understanding we can expand the volume from the node which owns the CSV in failover cluster and that would increase the size in all nodes.

Can this be safely achieved while VMs are running on that CSV volume ?

SR-IOV to guest of different OS?

0

Hosts are 2012 hyper v. I have SR-IOV working great with the 2012 guest.

On the windows 7 guests and the 2008 R2 guests I cannot see the "virtual hardware nic" show up under device manager and the hyper v manager network tab says SR-IOV is degraded.

The NICs are Broadcom dual SFP.

Does SR-IOV not pass to guests other than 2012 server?

Sysprep for Hyper-V: Prompt for computername & IP Address?

Hey everyone,

I've a two node Hyper-V cluster which due to the size and budget will be fully managed via native Hyper-V management tools (i.e not sccmvmm).

Currently building up my Windows 2008 and Windows 2012 systems ready to image with sysprep and being a bit new to it all have hit a bit of a snag. Is there a way which can do the following?

1) Autoname the computer based on Hyper-V VM name.

2) Prompt user for IP address details or read IP details in from txt file.

Windows 2012 R2 VMS deduplication vs differencing disks

Windows 2012 R2 can do deduplication for VMs without degradation of performance.

Differencing disks also achieves the same effect but requires planning.

Which approach is better in performance ?

VHDX Fails To Mount after copying

0

I have a Windows 2012 Hyper-v cluster with two nodes. All my VMs and VHDs reside in the CSV on an Equalogic SAN. Recently, I had a data VHD become corrupted on my file server, so I moved all my data from the corrupted VHD to a new VHD. After that was complete and the server was back online, I copied my old corrupted VHD onto an external USB hard drive. Now I am trying to access this old VHD by mounting it directly on the 2012 node and I get an error:

Couldnt mount file

the disk image isnt initialized, contains partitions that arent recognizable, or contains volumes that havent been assigned driver letters. please use the disk management snap-9in to make sure that the disk, partitions, and volumes are in a usable state.

When i go to disk management, I go ahead and set it to online and then it just shows up as a drive with no partition on it. Have i lost this data? what can i do to get this vhd to mount properly again so i can recover some data from it?

Guest "LUN" disconnects, then re-attaches, around same time every few days

0

We have only one Hyper-V Guest in our Network that has this issue. For some reason the Guest drive D (LUN) seems to disconnect about the same time "every day". I put "every day" in quotes because we have seen this problem before but often things will run fine for a week or so before the problem occurs again. So it isn't truly a regular occurrence. It just happens when it does and then the LUN reconnects as if nothing happened.  I have checked the Guest (and soon HOST) event logs but did not find anything useful as to the cause for the disconnect. Do you have any ideas what else I can check to get to the bottom of this matter?

Hyper V Replica warning

We had setup HyperV replica on the 2 sites locations where each VM initial replication worked fine, however after a day while checking replication health on replica server we get a warning where replica  is behind the primary  for mor e than one hour).

Avg latency is showing up as 16:56

I can see 4 recovery points though.

I found that on Primary - Replication Synchrnization settings default seetting is selected to replicate between 6:30 om to 6 am, is this latency due that?

if not that how do i check what is error and how to fux.

On primray : REplication health shows normal

Integration services cannot upgrade HAL

0
0

HI,

We migrated a SBS 2k3 to a virtual machine (host is windows 2k8 sp2 with Hyper-v) using disk2vhd.

We checked the update hal checkmark, but now we are running into a problem. The disk2vhd placed a virtual server hal in the VHD. As soon as we try to insert the integration services disk it keeps saying it has to update the hal and needs a reboot.

We say ok, it says it is updateing the Hal, it reboots and then comes again with the same message that it needs to update the hal. So we are in a loop.

Anyone familiar with this problem?

I was able to recreate the problem with a windows xp machine too.

Best regards,

Henry

Sound on virtual machine

Hello, specialists,

I want to use sound, spec. Midimapper, for training/creating music scores on my virtual machines with Win7 and Win8, but there is no sounddevice on vm.
The Server, MS Windows Server 2012, has a Creative soundcard, which works fine. The remoteaudio doesn't help. I use Hyper-V and VMM.

Knows anyone a solution of the problem?

Greetings
Andreas

Random VM's within Hyper-V 2012 Cluster losing connectivity.

0

Folks,

I have a 4 node Hyper-V 2012 Failover Cluster.

The networking is

1*1GB Nic for Management

4*1GB Team for VM Comms

3*1GB Team for iSCSI, Heartbeat, Backups etc

2* FC HBA for storage

The problem here is that random VMS are losing connectivity. The VM is up; the nic looks connected, however it does not see its default gateway.

The problem VM can ping any other VM on that Node.

If I do a arp -a -v on the VM it has an invalid arp entry of 00-00-00-00-00-00

If I move the VM to another node the nic kicks back to life.

Any ideas on what could be causing this.

Cheers
