HYPER-V VDI deployment

0
0
Hey I am wondering how i can fix my export location. I deleted the folder that hyper v installs when activated to export all vdi   copies so anytime i try to create a pool it just tells me that the pool could not be created because it could not be copied to the network location specified. I go into deployment properties and try to change the export location but anytime I try to change it I am told that the specified location does not exist. I'm worried that i'll have to format the server and start from step 1.

VM Guest cluster OS in Hyper V 2012 Server

Hi to all.

I'm heavy testing VM Guest Clustering in Hyper V server 2012 Host clustered Environment.

I install a Windows 2008 R2 Sp1 Guest Cluster on two Virtual Machines using Virtual FC HBA. Everything Works fine, the cluster works fine with the vm sparse on the two hyper V host or on the same, live migration too.

First Question: Is the Windows 2008 R2 sp1 OS supported by Microsoft in a guest cluster environment, or the only supported OS is Windows 2012?

Second Question: During live migration of a clustered VM someone experienced EventID 57 Source NTFS during heavy IO on a clustered Disk ?

Thanks in advance.

Hyper-V Replication "general access denied"

0
0

Over the past few days I have been attempting to setup Hyper-V replication.  I run through the wizard keeping most settings default I get a general access denied error message.

Here is the environment:

2 VM host machines running Server 2012 Data Center (clustered)

1 Server 2012 Standard as a SMB file server for hosting the VHD and VM files.

1 Server 2012 Standard for storing the replication VHDs (clustered, but only one machine in this cluster because replication from 1 Hyper-V cluster must replicated to a replication broker in another cluster.)

I have 6 VMs running and a Replication Broker (co-srv-hvrepb) in the Hyper-V cluster(co-srv-hvtest) and the purpose is to replicate the VHD files to the Replication Broker (co-srv-hvrep) on the replication cluster (co-srv-hvreplication)

When I set up the replication I set the replica server to co-srv-hvrep, the authentication is set to use kerberos through port 80 (firewalls disabled on all machines), I leave the VHD files selected, I only use the last recovery point and set the initial replication to begin over the network and start immediately.  When I click finish to start the replication I get an error message that says "Hyper-V failed to enable replication for virtual machine 'co-srv-epo': General access denied error (0x80070005). (Virtual Machine ID 44A94B70-7B4D-49B8-9E42-E645CB180388)"

I have triple checked the permission settings on the hosts and have set all of my different servers and cluster services to full control on all file shares for the VMs.  On my replication broker co-srv-hvrep, I have the authentication to use kerberos and have used the setting for allowing any authenticated server and also tried the option for *.domainname.com

When I was setting this all up I had some permission problems that were in the administrative log on co-srv-hvtest, but now I am not seeing anything in this log anymore indicating the cause of why this is failing.

I have even attempted to use procmon as a last resort to find where access is being denied but I have not been able to track it down with procmon either.

This is our last major obstacle before rolling out Hyper-V in our environment.

Access to internal VMs with NAT/RRAS not working

0
0

Hello everyone,

I've setup an internal Lab consisting of a HyperV host and virtual guests.

I've followed the online article "Configuring Hyper-V for multiple subnets with only one NIC" (sorry, cannot insert links!) in order to configure a two way access: VMs->Internet AND Internet->VMs. As the article describes, I've configured an Internal Virtual Network 10.10.10.0/24 and gave the host's virtual adapter the IP 10.10.10.1.

The VMs were given IPs 10.10.10.2 and 10.10.10.3 with a gateway of 10.10.10.1. Their DNS is a public DNS. Also configured the NAT section and enabled NAT on the public interface. All of this allowed the VMs to go to the Internet.

I've properly configured firewalls so that all machines can connect to each other. The VMs ping each other and the host's public IP (192.168.0.51). The latter can also ping the VMs.

What is not working however is access from the public network to the VMs, for RDP or any other service:

I've enabled RDP on the VMs. On the NAT-enabled interface (Public interface), I've added in the "Services and Ports" section a Remote Desktop rule to translate incoming  RDP connections on the interface (192.168.0.51) on port 3391 and 3392 into 10.10.10.2-3 port 3389. I've made sure Firewall rules were open, but also disabling the firewall didn't change a thing. I cannot RDP or telnet using 192.168.0.1:3391 or 3392, although off course telnetting/RDP to the 10.10.10.x addresses from the Host works.

Tried checking the RRAS and Firewall logs but there was nothing related.

Any ideas what I am missing with what seems to be a basic NAT configuration? If not, do you have clues on how better to debug this?

Thank you a lot,

Antoine

Hey,

I'm trying to install Hyper-V on a new machine (HP Elite 8300) and getting an error: Use RAM the provides error correction, I can't seem to find this specifc in the Windows server Catalog.

I'll try to upgrade the bios - but before doing so, is there any way I cant tell this server is qualified for Hyper-V?

Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 Error 0x80070422 starting VM's

I've been working at a customer site most of the day where they have a 2-node Hyper-V Server 2008R2 cluster that hasn't been maintained since it was built a few years back.  I patched and put the latest HP BIOS & drivers in place on one node, and the result has been that whenever you try to start a VM on that node, it fails with an error 0x80070422 relating to the emulated IDE controller.  I've looked all over the logs and can't find anything to indicate what might be going on.  This happens even if you create a VM that isn't clustered, and is on local disk so it appear to be something quite fundamentally wrong.  I'm planning to just rebuild the host tomorrow, but if anyone has any bright ideas while I'm asleep they would be greatly appreciated...

Extremely slow after July Windows Update

Server 2012 with Hyper-V

After running Windows Update a couple of days ago, it seems like VM's are running dead slow.
The Hyper-V host seems to be fine thought.
Seems like all kind of VM (W732, W764, W8xx etc.) have the same problem.

It doesn't matter if I use RDP or Hyper-V's own connection, they behave similarly dead-slow.

The VM's do not show high cpu load, nor memory exhaustion.

I have tested a little on another Hyper-V environment (Windows 864 Pro with diverse Win7 and XP VM's), this environment exhibits similar problems (after the same July update, was just fine last week)

I have no clue what is going on, anyone have ?

Kerberos Live Migrations Fail with 0x80090322

I am testing HyperV migration between Server 2012 servers. I've set the migration to use Kerberos, and I have added the cifs and Microsoft Virtual System Migration delegation from Server1 to Server2. (And in reverse for migrations back if needed)

When I attempt to migrate from Server1 to Server2 I get the following error:

The eventlog on the server I am Migrating From has the following error:

The Kerberos client received a KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED error from the server Server1$. The target name used was Microsoft Virtual System Migration Service/Server2. This indicates that the target server failed to decrypt the ticket provided by the client. This can occur when the target server principal name (SPN) is registered on an account other than the account the target service is using. Ensure that the target SPN is only registered on the account used by the server. This error can also happen if the target service account password is different than what is configured on the Kerberos Key Distribution Center for that target service. Ensure that the service on the server and the KDC are both configured to use the same password. If the server name is not fully qualified, and the target domain  is different from the client domain , check if there are identically named server accounts in these two domains, or use the fully-qualified name to identify the server.

I have verified that the SPNs for 'HOST/Server2' and 'Microsoft System Virtual Migration Service/Server2' exist in the attribute editor for the server I am migrating to. I have also verified that the firewall is off on both servers.

I am not sure how to get rid the of the SPN error in hyper-v events.  It appears whenever I reboot this server -windows 2008 R2 enterprise.  I have tried restarting VMMS service as well as confirming that permission of "self" user  has write permissions for SPN for this server object in AD.     Please suggest a solution because currently I just build two new VM on this box and would not like to remove this server from the domain and readd it.

Useless mpio

Hello!

I had set up a cluster with 2 nodes (Hyper-V 2012) and iSCSI box (IBM Storwize V3700). Storwize has 2 controllers (canisters). Both servers (nodes) have 2 connections, one for both controller. They are connected directly (10Gb), no switch is used.

Node1 has ip-addresses 172.16.1.1 and is connected to 172.16.1.2
Node1 has ip-addresses 172.16.2.1 and is connected to 172.16.2.2
Node2 has ip-addresses 172.16.3.1 and is connected to 172.16.3.2
Node2 has ip-addresses 172.16.4.1 and is connected to 172.16.4.2

In my opinion the cluster is not important at moment. Let's look only one node.

Mpio devices were created with ease. But the problem is that I have no profit from it.

At first there is traffic in only one path (Storwize quotes this controller as preferred). Problem: 10Gb is less than 20Gb.
Secondly, when I disonnect that path (or change ip address in Storwize) then there is a long time to before second path starts working, and it is quite slow.

mpclaim -v shows me that the supported policies are "FOO RRWS LQD WP LB". I have tried all of them, though I think the best should be Least Queue Depth. The behaviour is same every time. V3700 is "ALUA Implicit only" device. IBM does not provide vendor specific DSM for iSCSI (it does for fibre channel).

I started with default registry values. Then added suggestions by IBM:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E97B-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\003\Parameters\LinkDownTime =120 (decimal) (Default was 15)
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E97B-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\003\Parameters\MaxRequestHoldTime =120 (decimal) (Default was 60)
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E97B-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\003\Parameters\MaxPendingRequests =2048 (decimal) (Default was 255)
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Disk\TimeOutValue =60 (decimal) (Default was 60)

Nothing better, even worse because LinkDownTime is the time in seconds before something really happens.
I studied that this value does not have effect decreasing below 12. But 12 seconds is terribly long time!

I tried several registry settings with no luck. At moment the settings are:

Hello,

I've been struggling to create/start/stop a VM using WMI from a remote Linux machine using C programming language.

All the examples given (MSDN/other resources) are related to C# or VB.

Please provide a helpful resource for me to refer.

I wonder if anyone has been able to get OS X running as a virtual machine with Hyper-V successfully?

this would solve a problem for development as I could then use the VM etc

linux works fine generally, but I am waiting for the 2012 r2 to RTM before I upgrade my hypervisor again

Creating a cluster on a single Hyper-V host with SAS

0

I´m having this "disk bus type does not support clustering" thing when evaluating stroage in FCM. I´m creating a lab, which requires cluster, I´m using Hyper-V 2012 on a HP Powerfull workstation with LSI SAS controller and 2 SAS disks. I´m having 2 W2012 nodes on a same Hyper-V host, which will be members of a cluster.

With the same hardware and VMware, things worked like this:
- I had 1 mirorred array of 2 SAS disk on LSI controller.
- When adding a disk to VM node, I enabled sharing/pass-through option of desired disk
- I created a volume in first node in Windows Server's Disk Manager
- As iscsi, evaluation of a storage was done and everything worked as a charm

With Hyper-V, I don´t know how to do iscsi. Now my disks are as SCSI, and not supported. Question is, how to create a storage correctly, supported my FCM?
- Should I keep array in LSI? Or should I do single disks?
- Should I create vdmx inside the Hyper-V host, or should I connect disks directly to a VM nodes?
- Should I stick with scsi or fiber channel?
- Which is better, to create a mirrored drive in LSI, or with Windows´s disk manager?

Hyper -V Windows 8 only allows first two VM's External network access

0

Hi All

I have configured Windows 8 with Hyper V and configured 4 vm's to run on it ranging from server 2003 to windows xp.

I have created an External Virtual Switch and linked it to the only network interface the workstation has. (Intel(R) Ethernet Connection I217-V) All setting are left at default. The mother board is a Gigabyte GA-Z87-D3HP

On each of the servers I have assigned this Virtual Connection with standard Network Adapter.

Now this is where the mystery begins. Only the first two vm's I start up get external network access regardless of which two I start. If I shut down or restart one another then get's external access. It only effects external access.

The host and all four vm are able to connect and see each other but only two can ping eg. the gateway.

The host has full access to the network and all vm's. I am going to try install a second network card tomorrow and see if this fixes the problem.
