Hyper-V Server 2012 Remote COM Security Settings

Hi everyone,

I have a Hyper-V Server 2012 standalone box with domain member. I want to change COM Security Settings but how can i do? (like DCOMCNFG > Componenet Services > Computers> My Computer > Properties > COM Security TAB on GUI console)

I tried remote connection from GUI based Management Server to to Hyper-V Server 2012 BOX over DCOMCNFG console butfailed, because required "COM+ Network Access feature in the Application Server role" this method. But as far as not possible "COM+ Network Access feature in the Application Server role" on Hyper-V Server 2012. I receive error event log bellow.

"The activation for CLSID {182C40F0-32E4-11D0-818B-00A0C9231C29} failed because remote activations for COM+ are disabled. To enable this functionality use Server Manager to install the COM+ Network Access feature in the Application Server role."

I want to add Network Services account to COM Security TAB. How can i change COM Security Settings on Hyper-V Server 2012?

Hi. I use Windows Server 2012 and many VM's on this server.

And now i noticed, sometimes if i logn time not working with VM - display this VM is "pused". As example:
i run Windows Update and wait when it finish, but Windows Update paused. I still wait when finish install 2 updates - but long time never happens. And process-line have one position. When I get tired of waiting i go to VM and display switch to actually moment )

Is it possible to fix the display refresh? Because I can wait for hours (

HI,

I am trying to replicate the Hyperv server 2012 between two locations.

I have established the site to site VPN between site A to Site B.

Site A and Site B are in diffrent netowrk range still am bale to ping from site A to site B vice versa.

Hyperv replication is failing with port 80 Error code.

I am able to telnet the port 80 from both the location.

I have added the Site B server into my domain.

Error : Hyperv Failed to establish a connection with the replica server on port '80' the connection with the server was terminated abnormally.

Hyper-v Replica and licensing implications

$

Hello All

I've tried to search and read up on this but I can't seem to find a clear answer. If I have a physical 2012 server running several Hyper-V clients and I wish to use the Replica facility to another server in the same location, to be used as a disaster recovery server only, what are the licensing implications on this second server?

I've read about 'cold backups' and needing software assurance to allow this but it's all very grey...... does anyone know?

thanks

SSD Trim and vhdx under Windows Server 2012

$

Hello

Sounds like a simple question but I can't find a confirmation on google. Does Hyper-V 2012 support TRIM commands for VHDX files?

If I create data in a VM, the physical .vhdx file will expand to its max capacity. And if I then delete this data, the .vhdx file size will not reduce unless I compact it from the host. Assuming I don't compact it, my intuition is that the SSD cannot be aware that this large .vhdx file contains lots of empty blocks that the drive could use to level the cells wearing.

Unless Hyper-V does something smart and that the VM actually passes on the TRIM command to the SSD so that these blocks get recycled.

Would anyone be able to confirm what actually happens?

thanks

Charles

Hi

I need to do failover of VM if VM goes off in one node   and also need to start automatically once its move

Here is the issue that if VM OS goes corrupt then VM will not switch over automatically so is there any way to move VM automatically once VM Corrupt in OS side or VM Goes off /shutdown mode.

I am using Hypev 2012.

Mixing Microsoft Hyper-V Server and Microsoft Operating System Edition Hyper V Role in the same Failover Cluster?

As the title suggest is it a valid i.e. supported design to mix Hyper-V Server and an OS edition with the Hyper-V role in the same failover cluster?

Hyper-V changes the MAC address (CentOS 6.3 x86_64)

I have a CentOS 6.3 x86_63 virtual machine on Hyper-V 2012 at kernel 2.6.32-358.6.1.el6.x86_64.  When I installed from the ISO, I completed the installation by adding the IC for 6.3.  After using yum to update, yum delivered a new kernel and I wholly expected to have to re-install the components and also find the CD-ROM disabled, but discovered that CentOS now incorporates native Hyper-V support in 2.6.32-358.6.1.

Finding that the CD-ROM still works, I haven't re-installed IC, since it cripples the CD-ROM drive.  Once in a great while  on a Core i7 host the kernel immediately fails with:

---

Setting APIC routing to physical flat

..TIMER: vector=0x30 apic1=0 pin1=2 apic2=-1 pin2=-1

..MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC

.... and the list goes on until I see

Kernel panic - not syncing: IO-APIC + timer doesn't work! Boot with apic=debug and send a report. Then try booting with the 'noapic' option.

Pid: 1, comm: swapper Not tainted 2.6.32-358.6.1.el6.x86_64 #1

Call Trace:

.... extra data removed

---

I reset the VM and the next time it usually works.  Now comes the interesting part.

I recently added my Hyper-V host to Active Directory and created a two-node FO cluster.  A single host is a Core I7 and the other is a Core 2 Duo E8400.  Processor compatibility is enabled on all VM, including the one in question.

I can live migrate the VM between the hosts without any issues and network connectivity is unaffected.  But I cannot reboot the VM on the E8400 -- it always fails with the above error.  However, when I quick migrate back to the Core i7 and power it up, the MAC addresses on the network adapters have changed.

I live migrated a Windows 8 VM to the Core 2 Duo E8400, turned it off, and turned it back on, and that guest was not impacted by a change in MAC address.

I can't figure out why the IO-APIC kernel panic would trigger Hyper-V to rebrand the MAC address.

Duvida LP Processor VP

Boa tarde,

Estava lendo o artigo do blog do Fabio Hara e surgiu umas duvidas:

Link: http://www.fabiohara.com.br/2012/06/16/virtual-processor-e-logical-processor/

Hyper-V 2012 host freezing hard

$

I have a test platform, which is based on a consumer mainboard and Intel Core i3 CPU. Changing it is not a choice.

This one worked wonderful with Server 2008 R2, including the Hyper-V role. Until I tried to install Server 2012 as upgrade. At first reboot during the installation the system stopped with the single window logo on screen - and only a rollback could bring the machine up again.

Ok, incompatibilities with old drivers or such I thought and performed a clean install. This went well. System was performing great and only waiting to get its jobs. But after adding the Hyper-V role the following reboot again ended in a frozen startup logo. Only safe mode is still working, but an attempt to remove the Hyper-V role from here failed (the wizard did not move on after unselecting the role).

So now I have a useless Server 2012 machine and the choice to go back to Windows Server 2008 R2 or find a way to get Server 2012 up and running again on the platform - with Hyper-V.

Any ideas what is causing the behavior and how to fix it?

Best greetings from Germany

Hyper-V in Server 2012 - Strange NIC issues

$

I'm going to describe the issue as best as I can, but it's extremely odd to say the least...

We have 2 new servers, HP DL380 G7s. that are going to be the start of a new Hyper-V cluster. I built the first one up with minimum fuss, but the second has NIC issues as soon as I add the Hyper-V role.

From the four on-board NICs, two are in our domain VLAN 1, and the other 2 in their own VLAN 18. They will be teamed, but for the sake of simplicity I'll keep teaming out of this for now. Before adding the Hyper-V role I can ping out of every single NIC, after adding the Hyper-V role 1 of the NICs no longer respond to ping.

At this point I have not created any virtual NICs, nor changed anything in the physical NIC adapter settings

I remove the Hyper-V role and they all start to work again, I re-add the role and a different NIC stop working.

The driver and firmware versions are exactly the same as the server that currently works. Also, NICs 1+3 go to one of our DC switches, and 2+4 go to another, this is to add redundancy once they get teamed. However for testing I have now patched in the problematic server directly into the same ports the working server was using.

To add to the strangeness, if I create a virtual switch using the NIC that doesn't work I can then ping out of that.

Any ideas welcome :-)

Hyper-V: How to use host's Bluetooth network connection on a VM?

Is it possible to use host's Bluetooth network connection (tethered to my smartphone) on a VM? If yes, how?

When I try to create an External virtual switch in Hyper-V Manager->Virtual Switch Manager->Create Virtual Switch button, I only see my wired and 802.11 connections offered in 'External network' dropdown list.

Simple two server Hyper-V cluster

You'll have to excuse me as I don't have a lot of experience with type-1 hypervisors, and what experience I do have isn't with Hyper-V.

We are going to be due for replacing server hardware in Fall of 2014 and are trying to see if we can reduce 9 low usage servers down to just two Windows Server 2012 Standard servers.

I've been reading a lot of articles on Hyper-V and how to configure failover clustering.  These articles also mentioned the need for some kind of remote storage such as FC, iSCSI, SAS, or SMB.

Is it possible to configure the same two Hyper-V servers to also be a configured as a clustered File Services role running SMB for the Hyper-V?  If so, are there any serious issues I should be aware of?

VM Connection screen and hyper-v manager not in sync (black screen)

$

Hi,

First time poster, please be gentle...

I have a problem which is similar to the black screen issue, my presentation is a little different though. I find that the HV Manager seems to "get stuck". For example, I make a HV connection to a shutdown machine, see the "blank" screen as expected. If I then start the machine in HV manager, the machine starts OK and comes up in the VM Connection. But in HV manager, nothing seems to be happening, as if the machine has not started. However if I go into the settings on the guest when I know it's started (sometimes after a little clicking around as it seems stuck at "Help" on the right-click) HV Manager then seems to wake up and starts to display stats and the thumbnail screen.

I did start using RSAT on Win7 and that seemed much more reliable and this issue has been more noticeable since I moved to Windows8. I've also started moving some disks to VHDX. As an aside, I noticed that the first time machines are started in the Windows8 console, they seem very slow to start but I'm not sure if that's coincidental. After the first time startup, they seem OK.

If anyone can offer advice/information as to whether these are known behaviours/issues, I'd appreciate that.

Windows Server 2012 Failover Cluster Virtual Fibre Channel Adapter Live Migration Error

$

Hello,

I've got a 3 node cluster running Windows Server 2012 on HS22 IBM Blades with 8GbFC HBA's connecting to a XIV SAN.  I am trying to get the virtual HBA's working in Hyper-V Guest running Windows 2008 R2.

I first created 2 virtual SAN Switches one connected to each port on my physical HBA (each physical port connects to a separate fabric).

I add two Virtual HBA's in my Guest, one to each VSAN Switch.

When I go to Zone the HBA's I only see side A of the virtual HBA's not both A and B.  On each fabric I should see two (A and B) WWPN but I only see one.

I can add disk and everything works, however when I go to Live migrate I get the following error due to side B not being zoned.

Live migration of 'Virtual Machine Win2012_01' failed.

Virtual machine migration operation for 'Win2012_01' failed at migration destination 'hv-cl07-c2'. (Virtual machine ID 2CE90D02-083C-4012-ACA1-BE8D35EFCA33)

'Win2012_01' Synthetic FibreChannel Port: Failed to finish reserving resources with Error 'Unspecified error' (0x80004005). (Virtual machine ID 2CE90D02-083C-4012-ACA1-BE8D35EFCA33)

'Win2012_01' Synthetic FibreChannel Port: Failed to finish reserving resources with Error 'Unspecified error' (0x80004005). (Virtual machine ID 2CE90D02-083C-4012-ACA1-BE8D35EFCA33)

Here are the Drivers I'm using for my Physical HBA's:

Qlogic 8GbFC HBA - q23wx64W12Storv911025_whql-1507663-07202012

Has anyone see this issue yet?

How do you attach a Virtual Network Adapter to a VM Using WMI?

$

I am looking for samples or information on how to attach an external virtual network adapter to an instance of a VM.   I have been able to successfully integrate with Hyper-V using WMI and C#.     Any language sample would be great (vbscript, powershell, etc)

I believe it is related to Msvm_ExternalEthernetPort, but I don't see how to associate this to an instance of VM (Msvm_ComputerSystem).

Thanks!
