Hi,
I'm in the process of migrating an existing Hyper-V infrastructure, managed with SCVMM, consisting of 3 hosts, each with a dedicated LUN, on the same SAN(Fibre Channel), with a total of 30 production VMs.
My goal is to make all the storage space available to all 3 hosts and then configure clustering on the 3 hosts.
Right now I have some pieces of the puzzle, but I have no idea of where to put them and in what order.
1.I know I have to make all LUNs available to the three hosts. Maybe even merge the 3 LUNs into a single one, if I temporarily migrate the VMs storage to a NAS(already available).
2.If I migrate all VMs to the NAS, mapped with an iscsi target to all 3 hosts, without clustering won't it be risky? Because I see that the files written from a host on that shared LUN, are not imediately available to the other hosts.
3.I have to configure failover lustering on the hosts, but I'm concerned how can this be done, without affecting the availability of the VMs.
All these are well documented on technet, but I really need some warnings and advices first, about the order of the migration steps.
The SAN is an IBM DS3512 FC, each LUN has 3TB, the hosts are IBM X3755 M3 and the NAS is a low cost device, with SATA disks.
Thank you.
