I'm asking this here because this issue is a direct result of moving a guest Windows Server 2003 SP2 Standard Edition virtual machine from Virtual Server 2005 to a new maching running Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Enterprise Edition, using Hyper-V.
Regardless if I do the recommended method of removing the Integration Services before copying the VHD or after, something is failing at startup, but it will not reveal to me what it is. I've done this before with no issue, but no such luck this time.
I'm getting the standard "At least one service or driver failed during system startup. Use Event Viewer to examine the event log for details.", but there is nothing showing as failed anywhere. I'm quite familiar with these messages, but the usual accompanying
message in the event log that tells you which device/service failed is not there. There are not any other error or warning messages in the System or Application Logs. All of the services set to Automatic have started, and are still running (except
Performance Logs, which started and stopped as normal). There are no issues showing in Device Viewer. I have even used theset devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 to show the truly hidden devices in Device Viewer, and removed the leftover devices from when it was running on Virtual Server 2005. I still get the service/driver failed message when I reboot.
So how do I find what service/device is failing? I've researched and tried things for days to no avail.
If there is a better forum to ask this in, please let me know, as I wasn't sure where to start, but thought someone using Hyper-V might have dealt with this before.
Thanks!
