Hi there,
I have seen issues with integration services recently and am wondering what the correct method should be for installing integration services in an environment where you have VMM running. Let me explain..
I have a virtual host running 5 VMs. If I open up hyper-v manager and open a console and select "insert integration services disk" then the tools install fine job done. If I do this via VMM, (shut down the VM and select "Install virtual guest services") then the install says it completes succesfully. However, after installing the tools this way, I start to receive errors on my hyper-v host for those VMs similar to this below..
"Hyper-V Data Exchange connected to virtual machine 'servername', but the version does not match the version expected by Hyper-V (Virtual machine ID 9CA3A800-654B-495A-92BF-1639075E81BF). This is an unsupported configuration. This means that technical support will not be provided until this problem is resolved. To fix this problem, upgrade the integration services. To upgrade, connect to the virtual machine and select Insert Integration Services Setup Disk from the Action menu.
So to get around this error message I had to then go back into Hyper-V manager on the virtual host, open the VM via console and again choose "Insert intergration services disk" and reinstall that way. So basically it appears to me that installing the services via VMM gives you errors at the host level. Has anybody else experienced this? Should the integration tools be installed one way over the other? Should there be any difference between the two?
